Criteria for best goalkeeper from 1994 by my observation has always been: 1) Number of clean sheets from Group stage; 2) Number of clean sheets in knockout stage(s); 3) Goals conceded; 4) Saves made; 5) Total minutes played 6) Man of the Match awards.

If you have time crosscheck the consistency from 1994(1st award) till 2018 and you will see that the FIFA TECHNICAL COMMITTEE got it wrong this time.

Yes Messi had 5 man of the match Awards but the final Man of the match award was a travesty as Kylian deserved it and that would have tied them at 4 each rather awarding it to Messi meant Mbappe had only 3 MOTM(Man of the Match) awards. Mbappe had 2 assists with no yellow card while Messi had 3 assists with a yellow card. Messi played more minutes than Mbappe in this world Cup which should add up to less efficiency than Mbappe.

Yassine Bounou only conceded 5goals in 6 matches he kept. Four of the goals conceded were in the semifinals and finals. He had 3 clean sheets and 7 important saves in 570minutes of play. Emiliano Martinez conceded a total of 8 goals(albeit 7goals within 90minutes).He conceded 5 goals before the semifinals and 3 afterwards. He had 3 clean sheets and 7important saves in 690minutes of play. Yassine Bounou's heroics were more significant in Morocco's path to the semifinals and 3rd place match.
