In any business you venture into, the social media is a great tool for promotion but in the bid to achieve this we should be very cautious. |
In today's business climate, social media marketing holds incredible power! It has become the main platform that hosts communication for family, friends, and old acquaintances. Moreover it has become the main source of information for both professional and personal use. Majority of people knows how social media works, but only a few have understanding on what mistakes to avoid in social media marketing! As far as your business is concerned, social media can be a great force for good — attracting prospective customers, boosting sales, being part of the online conversation, and even helping you become a greener business. But when you commit certain mistakes, you risk undoing all of your hard-earned social media achievements. In this article, I will explain common social media marketing mistakes to avoid. Trying to Do Too Much Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, YouTube, Pinterest, Google+ — it’s tempting to jump in and open an account on every channel. But developing an effective social media presence takes time. Instead, focus on one or two social media platforms that offer the greatest potential for your particular products or services and place your efforts there. Just as it is applicable in any business, when it comes to your social media channels, start small. Failing to Post Brand recall is a very important thing in any business! As in social media, the goal is to stay on the minds of your audience so that you’ll be their primary source in their time of need. Provide them regularly with content that meets their needs and interests (rather than bombarding them with non-benefit driven promotions). Making Your Posts All About You It’s true that one of the benefits of social media is enhanced awareness of your brand. But some businesses lose sight of the bigger picture, focusing disproportionately on how fabulous their products or services are. Posts that take an approach of “this is the consumer problem and here’s how our product can fix it” are acceptable from time to time, but don’t let this kind of content become unabashed self-promotion — this will definitely turn off some of your followers. Putting Them on Hold One of the biggest mistakes that people make in social media is putting the customers on hold, and by that I mean not responding (immediately) to customers' inquiries or relevant comments! The reason is quite obvious- a response is a primary customer service expectation, this help improve your customer experience. Never put your followers on hold! Be proactive by responding to your social media followers’ inquiries both on and off your page so you can make a connection with your audience. Lack of Creativity In any business, competition is fierce! So to survive, you must go beyond the norm and make use of all your creative juices. Grab your audience’s attention through humor, motivation, inspiration, or give them an offer they can’t refuse. Make your posts engaging, something they can comment on or ask questions from! Shock and awe them, and surprise them with something unique! Not Having a Strategy Less than 20 percent of businesses say that their social media strategy is mature. Social media users are inundated with information and messages every second of the day. Businesses that don’t have a strategy won’t ever cut through the clutter and deliver an effective message to their target audience. Creating a strategy includes having distinct and measurable goals, developing a clear social media policy, thinking through a brand’s social media voice, and planning out a content calendar with end goals in mind. Without a clear strategy, businesses could create the best content on the web, but receive little to no engagement. Too Much Involvement Good promotion entails advertising to the right crowd, at the right time, and without pushing their “off” buttons. Think about your favorite TV commercials you have enjoyed watching. Would you still have respect for the product being advertised if the same commercial was advertised every 5 minutes? Too much of anything can harm your business. Be original and have adequate timing to avoid annoying your customers. Isolated in One Department Marketing in only one department limits the multi-functional role that it can have on your business. Different agencies that are the most useful are: advertising, media buying, web development, SEO, PR and customer experience. This should be shared across your company so competitors and customers know you mean business, and see you aren’t limited to strictly 1 area of a marketing push. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new. This will help you in the long run and will help you establish a clear and varied road map for success. Not Understanding Your Platform You have to figure out what type of social network fits you and your business. For some companies with limited time to dedicate to social media marketing, it can be frustrating to try to keep up with every hot new social media platform available. Use the platforms your audience is most active on to avoid wasting time as well as have clear goals and a solid content strategy for each platform. Paying for Your Fanbase You’ll get about as much engagement out of a stone as you will by buying followers. Not only that, but it will jeopardize your account as more social media pages are taking action against unnatural practices. As long as you follow the above tips in social media marketing, you will never have to resort to “cheating” tactics like paying for fans, likes, views or any other campaign that will increase your fanbase. |
It is true that you applied for that job with the hope of getting the job, you prepared well for the job interview, but in the end things did not turn out as anticipated. Now you feel a bit like this: Oh! My God! What should I do now? The decision of the company is not enough reason to make you feel depressed. Here are tips on how to walk yourself through the situation: 1. Don't Be Angry It is only natural that your first reaction may be anger. Don't use the job interview as a measure of your professional worth. The decision to not hire you was based on the company's specific criteria and needs which may or may not have anything to do with how you showed up at the interview. If you can be honest with yourself, you will realize that there were likely a variety of factors that resulted in you being passed up for the job. When you realize it is not your fault entirely, you can move onto... 2. Don't bring up the past It's funny how failures have a way of drudging up all our past failures, as well as all the negative feelings associated with the failures. It's as if our minds go into over-drive then our collective unconscious kicks in and we're on autopilot into the failures of our past. Stay present; don't let the past take over. 3. Understanding Use this as a learning opportunity. Ask yourself questions so you learn from the experience. What would you have done differently? What did you learn from the interviewing process? How would you have handled yourself differently? Ask the hiring manager to give you honest feedback about what you could have done differently, and/or why you were not chosen. Receiving this information can help you avoid similar mistakes in the future, improve your interviewing skills, and prepare yourself for success down the road. By asking questions, we focus on learning and growth and consequently move forward. 4. Acceptance Without blaming yourself or beating yourself up, accept responsibility for your part in the rejection. Take ownership for your contribution. Once you have come to terms with not getting the job, you are free to divert your energy towards the next opportunity that comes along. If you have submitted multiple applications and gone on other interviews, you have options. Be hopeful and optimistic; your reward could be coming any day now. 5. Networking Know that every day, countless others are sharing your experience. Seek out others -- the mutual support and shared knowledge will be enormously helpful. Contacts and job leads, as well as friendships and offers to share technical expertise with each other, result when connecting with others who are on a similar job search journey. If you left a favorable impression with the hiring manager, leave the door open online so that he or she can recommend you in the future. Connect on LinkedIn with anyone you met during the interview process. 6. Keep it in perspective Being rejected doesn't mean that your professional qualifications and personal attributes are anything less than spectacular. Employers weigh many considerations when recruiting staff - many of these factors are beyond your control. Keep it in perspective; their decision doesn't necessarily reflect on you. 7. Set Attainable Goals Give yourself something to look forward to. Remain focused on the bigger picture with your long-term goals, but be sure to give yourself some short-term, daily goals that keep your mind off this minor setback. 8. Rebounding There is nothing wrong with a man failing but what really count is your ability to recover from your failure. Plan A may not have been a success. So what’s Plan B? As long as you did not put all your eggs in one job’s basket, or pin all of your hopes on one “dream job,” you should be able to bounce back. This final stage of dealing with job rejection is what makes it all worth it; using what you have learned to push forward and conquer your second chance at a job you want. Now that you have read through this practical tips, it is time to weigh yourself: What have you done to recover after a job rejection? Read more at www.aidwealth.com |

As an entrepreneur or businessman/woman we need to evaluate any business opportunity that comes our way in order to achieve optimal results. Overtime, the RAMP model has been tested and proven by successful entrepreneurs as an efficient and reliable method of evaluating potential business. RAMP is an acronym which stands for Return, Advantages, Market and Potential. RETURN Return is your reward on investment. It is your ‘Return On Investment’. Issues you have to consider include the following: • Is the business you want to embark on going to be profitable? Will your revenues be higher than your expenses? • How long will it take before you have positive cash flow? • How much money will it take to start-up this business? ADVANTAGES Look at the cost structure of the business opportunity. What element of the business will cost you more to source or manufacture? What are the barriers you are bound to encounter in the new venture? Do you have large competitors? Will the policies and regulations in the business environment support the operations of your business? Do you have a proprietary advantage such as patents or exclusive licenses on what you would be selling or producing? How is the distribution channel like? MARKET Is there high demand for this product or service? Who are you selling to? You will also need to evaluate the cost of production which will influence your price to a large extent. POTENTIAL How risky is the business opportunity? Will there be higher returns for the founders and investor in your business? Is your team right for the business? Does the business concept fit the goals of the team to create a high potential or lifestyle business? The above questions are what you should ask yourself before venturing into any business. By using the RAMP model, you will be able to do a thorough job analyzing the business ideas and opportunities available. |

The primary way most people increase their earned income is by working harder. 4. There is often no residual value for your work. In other words, you work, get paid, and then have to work again to be paid again. PORTFOLIO INCOME Portfolio income is generally income from paper assets such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. The vast majority of all retirement accounts are counting on portfolio income in the future. PASSIVE INCOME Passive income is generally income from real estate. It can also be royalty income from... Some steps that have been proven reliable overtime include: 1. Define the Problem To generate ideas to solve business problems we all need a starting point. You need to study the problem that needs solution before delving into action. 2. Brainstorming The second method involved in generating good business ideas is brainstorming. Your greatest investment should go to your greatest asset which is your mind. 3. Choose friends carefully. The power of association. 4. Master a formula and then learn a new one. The power of learning quickly. 5. Pay yourself first. The power of self-discipline. Do not dip into your savings or investments. The savings are only used to create more money, not to pay bills. 6. The need for heroes. The power of focus. 10. Teach and you shall receive. The power of getting something for nothing. |
When you are faced with a viable and feasible business opportunity or when a great idea is awakened within you, what is your first step of action? Do you just into the business or you take your time to write down a plan? Just like the popular adage goes; “He that fails to plan, plans to fail.” Why not take your time to write a business plan which will guide you through the establishment, sustenance and growth of the business. (Read more on business plan). * * * STORY CONTINUES * * * “…During the period Tom was making money from the business, Mike took out time to write a business plan, created a corporation, found four investors, employed a manager to do the work, and returned six months later with a construction crew. Within a year his team had built a large volume stainless steel pipeline which connected the village to the lake.” * * * STORY PAUSED * * * Why not ask yourself? Why did Mike not rush into the business? He knew so well that for a business to grow into a profitable venture, you need a business plan. Writing a business plan might be a tedious and time consuming task but in the long run, you will be grateful you did. * * * STORY CONTINUES * * * At the grand opening celebration, Mike announced that his water was cleaner than Tom’s water. He also announced that he could supply the villagers with water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Mike announced that he would charge 75% less than Tom did for his higher quality and more reliable source of water. The villagers cheered and ran immediately for the faucet at the end of Mike’s pipeline. In order to compete, Tom immediately reduced his rates by 75%, bought two more buckets, added covers to his buckets and began hauling four buckets each trip. In order to also provide better service, he hired his two sons to give him a hand for the night shift and on weekends. When Tom’s boys went off to college, he said to them, ‘Hurry back because someday this business will belong to you.’ “For some reason, his two sons never returned. Eventually, Tom had employees and union problems. The union demanded higher wages and better benefits and wanted its members to only haul one bucket at a time. “Meanwhile, Mike realized that if this village needed water, then other villages must need water too. He rewrote his business plan and went off to sell his high-speed, high-volume, low-cost, clean-water delivery system to villages throughout the world. He only makes a penny per bucket of water delivered, but he delivers billions of buckets of water every day. Whether he works or not, billions of people consume billions of buckets of water, and all that money pours into his bank account. Mike developed a pipeline to deliver money to himself, as well as water to the villages. “Mike lived happily ever after. Tom worked hard for the rest of his life and had financial problems forever after.” * * * END OF STORY * * * That story about Mike and Tom has guided a lot of people for years. It has assisted me in my life’s decision-making process. Always ask yourself: “This decision I’m about to make will I be building a pipeline or hauling buckets?” “Will I be working hard, or will I be working smart?” For more visit aidwealth..com |
There is this story I read up some time ago. A story that has guided my decision making process for quite some time and it is very effective. Decision making is a very vital tool in business and other aspects of life. The act of making decisions when you are faced with issues or situations can either make or mar you. Thus, we need to have a rethink before we make any decision in business. We tend to rush into decision making especially when we get opportunities we have been clamoring for. This story explains the differences that exist in the CASHFLOW Quadrant. The left side of the quadrant consists E (Employee) and S (Self-Employed), and the right hand side consists B (Business) and I (Investors). The story goes: Once upon a time, there was this quaint little village which was a great place to live. Just like every other community, this village had a major problem: there was no alternative source of water supply to rainfall. “What can we do to elevate ourselves of this situation?” the elders of the village deliberated day and night. Different ideas were generated, some of which include: Let us mobilize the youths of this village to supply water to a well from our main river whenever it rains Let us bid a contract to have water delivered to the village on a daily basis After long deliberations and evaluations, the second idea was taken. Two persons accepted to take on the task and the elders awarded the contract to them. Over time, the elders felt that a little competition would keep prices low and ensure a backup supply of water in case of the failure of one. The first of the two persons who won the contract, Tom, immediately ran out, bought two galvanized steel buckets and began to supply more water to the villagers by running back and forth along the trail to the river which was a mile away. With the increase in the level of satisfaction he supplied, Tom made more returns while he labored from morning to dusk hauling water with his two large buckets. He would empty the water from the buckets into the large concrete holding tank the villagers had built from the water was sold. How did Tom cope with the business? Each morning, he had to get up before the rest of the villagers awoke to make sure there was enough water for the villagers when they wanted it. It was quite a difficult job, but he was very happy to be making money. Meanwhile, the second winning contractor, Mike, disappeared immediately after the competition announcement was made. He was not seen for months and this made Tom very happy since he had no competitor. Guess what! Tom was making all the money! “Why was Mike not back for the job? Where was he?” Tom asked himself from time to time as he continued his tiring business joyfully. * * * STORY PAUSED * * * What happened to Mike? What made Mike decide to stay out of the job? Did he make the right choice? Find out what happened to Mike in Part 2 of this story! Coming Soon... |

Wayne Rooney has been named England's new captain by manager Roy Hodgson. Rooney was recently appointed Manchester United's new skipper by boss Louis van Gaal and had been widely tipped to take the armband for country as well as club. Steven Gerrard relinquished the role when he announced his retirement from international duty in the aftermath of England’s disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil. Chelsea's Gary Cahill and Manchester City's Joe Hart had also been touted as potential successors to Gerrard but Hodgson, speaking at a press conference on Thursday to announce his latest England squad, said Rooney was "an obvious choice". Former England captain Terry Butcher thinks Wayne Rooney is the only one choice to succeed Steven Gerrard as England captain. "I gave it a lot of thought but Wayne Rooney is an obvious choice for his honesty, commitment to the cause, his experience, the fact he has already captained England in the past," Hodgson said. "Now of course he's got that responsibility at Manchester United as well. All those factors weighed into my thought process and I'm pleased to be able to say I've been able to offer it to him. I had a long conversation with him and he's prepared to accept the pressures the England captaincy brings. "It would be unfair to some of the other players like Joe Hart and Gary Cahill, who are experienced players in the international team and play at very, very big clubs, to say that Wayne was the only choice but I think for most people it was Wayne's time, it was his moment and it would have been a mistake to overlook him." Asked if he expected his decision to spur Rooney on to greater heights, a cautious Hodgson said: "I try to shy away from that, I think it's dangerous to demand that of people. "(The captaincy) takes you on to a new level but with 95 caps and all the goals he's scored, all the things he's done, we've already seen he's prepared to take responsibility. "We hope he continues to push on, he continues to play well and he shoulders the responsibility of the captaincy as well as the other captains before him." Roy Hodgson has named Wayne Rooney as the new England captain. Rooney, who had been backed for the job by his predecessor, said it was "beyond his wildest dreams" to have been handed the armband on a permanent basis. "To be named as England captain is a dream come true for me personally and of course my family," he said. “It’s something I’ll take massive pride in doing. As a kid I always loved watching a big England game on TV. Back then I had a burning ambition to play for my country. To be appointed captain is beyond my wildest dreams. “I would obviously like to thank Roy and the coaching staff for having the belief and confidence in me to do the job.” Source SkySports

Nigeria joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Youth Day which took place August 12. It is a day set aside by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999 to acknowledge the unique roles and contributions of young people to the development of communities and countries all over the world. It brings to thefore vital roles youths play in shaping societies; be it in governance, education, art, peace-making and security, politics, economy, religion, advocacy and entrepreneurships. Those with proper grasp of the day looked forward to celebrating it with great enthusiasm. The celebration guarantees the youths an annual unique platform to interface with their governments and youth- based non-governmental organisations on various and problems confronting them. The event is also celebrated to recharge the young minds, remind them of their great potentials and of who they are in order to bring out the best in them. Youths are guided towards being conscious of the leadership role which they must embrace to heal the world and make it a better place. It challenges them to shun negative vices, such as engaging in consumption of illicit drugs, cultism, and armed robbery to mention but a few which are the scourges of the 21st century youths. Will this new deputy be sacked for another deed?? ![]() |
Ralph Ifeanyichukwu Nwoye on Thursday emerged as the new deputy governor of Enugu State. The office had become vacant after Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi was impeached by members of the Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday. The new deputy governor, a clergy of the Christ Ascension Church, was screened and cleared by the the house of assembly following his nomination by Governor Sullivan Chime. After the house had returned from a short break during Thursday’s plenary session, the speaker, Hon. Eugene Odoh, read a letter forwarded to the lawmakers by the governor, urging them to expeditiously consider, and approve Nwoye’s nomination. The break was occasioned by the receipt of the letter. Relying on the provisions of section 191 (3) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, Chime in the letter said Nwoye’s nomination was sequel to the vacancy in the Office of the Deputy Governor. After the letter had been read, the Leader of the house, Hon. S. K. Ude-Okoye, seconded by the Deputy Leader, Hon. John Ukuta, moved motions for the immediate acceptance and consideration of the letter, and for the nominee’s screening. Nwoye was then ushered into the chambers of the house for screening, but he ended up just taking a bow after a lawmaker, Hon. John Anichukwu, pleaded with his colleagues that “the reverend gentleman standing before us be allowed to take a bow and leave the chambers.” Ude-Okoye supported the plea, noting that Nwoye had been screened and cleared by the house in the past, when he was appointed as the commissioner of environment and solid minerals, and had also appeared before the legislators when he served as the elected deputy chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area. Moving a motion for the house to clear Nwoye, Ude-Okoye said, “By age he is qualified to be the deputy governor of this state, he is qualified by birth. “He is qualified as a full Nigerian, and by educational qualification, he is qualified to hold this excellent position.” The house leader added that Nwoye was also qualified due to his conduct as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. Nwoye was described as a loyal party man. “He is qualified by the conduct known by this house as one-time commissioner for environment and solid minerals of this state, and one-time deputy chairman of Nkanu East. “Twenty-four of us are members of the same party and Rev. Nwoye is our party member and a loyal party man. “I am moving a motion that this house clear Rev. Nwoye as the deputy governor of Enugu State.” The lawmakers, through a voice vote, unanimously adopted the motion and cleared Nwoye. The development came barely 48 hours after Onyebuchi’s impeachment on Tuesday by the Enugu State House of Assembly after a panel of enquiry found him guilty of allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him by members of the house. Onyebuchi was accused of running a poultry in his official residence, in spite of a resolution of the house which outlawed the practice, and also refusing to represent the governor at official functions. Having denied the allegations in his testimony before the investigative panel, Onyebuchi has said he will challenge his impeachment in court. (Punch News) |

Speaking with newsmen in Katsina shortly after presenting N1 million to Katsina State chapter yesterday, Okorocha, represented by his Liaising Officer in Katsina and Zamfara States, Prince Bashir Uwakwue, promised to ensure they receive the donation regularly. “He (Okorocha) sent us to familiarise with them and discuss how best our party will move forward in 2015 election,” said the governor’s aide. In his remarks, Okechukwu Azu, executive assistant to the governor, said Okorocha had broken the chain of bondage in Imo State and he would do the same in Nigeria if given the mandate. “We have been in bondage for many years and now is time for change and APC is the vehicle for change,” he stated.
