Quick question that I am asking for a friend...
Can a visitor to the UK on a 2 year visit visa, visit an Optician like Specsavers or Vision express to obtain glasses (paid for services) without violating terms of their visit visa?
Or do the UK high commission consider this part of medical tourism?
Justwise, Ekpotek kindly advise please...Thanks. |

Jarus: That's interesting. I don't put any bank statement - even personal - for visa application for official travels to the UK.
Just a letter from my company that they will sponsor the trip. My brother, you be Boss na. With multiple travel history and zero defaults on your immigration. |

Zippy98: Hi experts please assist, my mother's visitors visa was denied.
The issue now is my mum's statement of account. I started that my mum is a petty trader and received in total, annually 1 million naira, 600k from sales and upto 400k from me and my siblings.
I didn't include any account statement for my mum as I assumed that since I was sponsoring my mum my records should be sufficient. I had submitted me and my husband's pay slips and also savings in my Uk current account of 10 000 pounds.
The issue now is the need prove of my mum's earnings, my mum's bank statement if printed doesn't show her finances as she hardly use that account. The money she uses goes directly from her sales to the local farmers who supply her goods in cash. When I and my brother send money to my mum we send it through my yonger sister as my mum hardly have the time to go to the bank . We sometimes send to her account too.
Please can I send the above explanation in the new application with evidence of these transfers from both my account and my brothers account to recipients that is my sister and sometimes my mum. In the last 1year I have sent them over or upto a million naira but this is not currently sitting in the account as the money is for their upkeep. Please How much do I need to leave in her account and for how long to sufficiently prove that she has these money .
The second reason the gave was that their is no proof that my parents still own the land property for which we provided documentation for. Please how else can we proof the existence of this property if not by providing the original document which we did. My parents already just completed their build and moved into the land in question and we provided all the original documents. The C of O isn't ready yet even though the already applied. I only gave proof of payment for the land and power of attorney documents including land survey. I can transfer upto a million in my mum's account now but please for how long does it need to sit in the account before she can reapply as my mum will not be able to leave her trading money in an account as proof since she buys goods on a daily bases.
Please experts kindly advise on how I can proceed. Thank you for your time. I am not an expert (we are all learning), but having helped my mum with hers, let me give my 2 cents... 1. For every claim you make in your application form, you need to provide proof of it. If your mum is a petty trader, ask her to run every income and expenses she gets from her business through her bank account. e.g. If someone wants to pay her, tell her to ask them pay in her bank account, if she needs to pay out, tell her to pay out to their account. We do a lot of cash in hand in Nigeria, which makes it difficult to come up with documentation. if she can't get farmers to pay into her bank account. Get her to ask the farmers for receipt of payment, she can collect in cash, and then pay it into her bank account. Let her do this for six months. She can use the reciepts (and explain that she collects in cash)or bank account as proof of her business/ties to Nigeria. 2. When you and your brother send her money from the UK, don't do it through the local money agent. Use www.azimo.com or www.worldremit.com to fund from your UK bank account to her Nigerian bank account. With this, you will be able to collect receipts/proof that you fund her accounts. I use this too. 3. Even though you provided your own proof of earnings, your mums needs to be accessed as well. This is something difficult for me to wrap my head around as well, when i applied for my mum. 4. As for the landed property, get your lawyer to write a letter showing that the land ownership was transferred. Also take a photo of the house + use the survey document and also include the proof of payment of C of O + documents from the ministry saying you've applied for C of O. Dont just transfer 1 million to your mum. It will cause her issues. What you need to transfer few days prior to applying for the visa is money for her flight ticket and maybe £100 for stipends (use Azimo) and then provide proof of that in the application. I hope this helps you. Finally, be patient. Don't try to rush this. |

K4daniel: Please guru kindly help me out, this is like 10 days but my brother who has sent invitation Letter for my family visit said he has not been called for confirmation. The last time I was refused he was called. This time I used a cover letter to answer all the points raised for my refusals in my last refusal.
Please is it compulsory they usually call the sponsor in uk. This time around he sent his statement of acc and other things but am scared because I did not answer that question that has to do with how much do you think us the cost to you. I just put 1800GBP my salary na 255k with my pay slip attached two statement if acc.My joint acc and salary savings acc totalling 1.2m God help me..although I also explained that commissions and other income will come into the acc in form of cash. I also told the eco that it will be grossly unfair to deny me entry visa base on my bank statement with shows no evidence of income with cash. Dont fret. They dont call all the time. I once applied for my Dad, I was called by the visa officer to confirm that I am inviting him. He was refused the visa though because of some few documents that I did not include in his application (I am wiser now though and will apply again later). But when I applied for my mum few months back, she was granted the visa (after the second attempt) without any phone call to me from them. |

You MUST be sincere in all your applications. This is ethical. This is the right thing to do. The fact that you've been refused by the US embassy does not mean you won't get a UK visa. Don't even think of making the mistake of "hiding the truth" away or becoming "Lai Mohammed" the minister. Be honest. state why you were refused by the US govt. And make sure you've covered the basis of your current application. |

OFFICIALAEL: I am asking on behalf of a friend, his conundrum is that, he wants to relocate to the UK for greener pastures and better education like most Nigerians and UK seems to be his best option because he has family there to accommodate him. That is why I am asking the house for an affordable college that accepts international students. He doesn’t have the funds to use an agent either. Also I am hearing one doesn’t get a work permit for college programs in UK. Is this true? Please anyone with advice/experience on how is relocate to the UK via college should share. I will greatly appreciate. In my humble opinion, the visa that your friend is applying for (Student Visa) is not appropriate for someone who is looking to relocate. What is the current status of your friend? What kind of job is he doing right now? What industry? You'll need to provide some more info, so the gurus in the house like justwise and ekpotek can help/advice. |

solaiphones: I don’t agree with your points. Do you think it’s easy for any Nigerian youth without a strong political connection to achieve all what you said in your second paragraph” Starting a business or getting a job that pays big“ I’m sure in the next 10 years this young man can’t satisfy the British High Commission. So please stop discouraging him. And I’m sure most of the peope advicing people to stay back in this country are not in Nigeria, why can’t you stay and make it in Nigeria. I’m even regretting it that I didn’t move out of the country when i was young. This habbit is common among abroad based Nigerian to discourage people not to come. We all know the truth Nigeria is not a better place for youth to hussle. My advice to you as i have said earlier,@gberm this oyinbo people don’t want youths especially blacks in their country even if you have 10m in your account they will still refused you so far you are a young boy. They are just ripping off Nigerians of their money. If it’s compulsory you must meet your white friend tell him to consult an immigration lawyer over there to challenge their refusal decision this may cost you lot of money but it worth it i now what I’m saying. I’m been there for months even my grandma went there she doesn’t want to return again. Please let be sincere You don't have to agree with my point. Many Nigerian youths are building N500,000 per month one-man businesses without any political connections. The fact that you think "having a political connection" is the only way you can succeed in Nigeria shows that you are ignorant of the opportunities going on around you. The fact that you turn yourself into a "god" in this young man life by saying you are SURE that that he can't satisfy the british high commission in the next 10 years shows how wrong you are. ALl this guy needs is 5 years. Hard work. And visiting the UK/USA or any other country will be a doddle for him. The only reason I am even bothering to answer this young guy is that I was once young like him, in this same exact position, and I don't want him to make the mistakes I made in the past. Took me many years to correct those mistakes. Now he has the opportunity to ride on shoulders of others. Imagine this scenario... You have a BIG house. You live in it with your family. A Visitor wants to come and stay in your house for two weeks. You give them rules & regulations. 1. You can't come to my house if you don't have transport money 2. When coming, make sure you come with your own clothing & feeding money 3. Make sure you convince me you wont spend more than two weeks (because I can't cope with you in my house for longer). Now, imagine your intended visitor not doing any of the above, book a last bus from their village to your house, come with only N500 and showing intent that they don't want to go back to the village. Would you allow them in? The uk has rules and regulation. Dudes current circumstances can't fulfill those rules. You are asking him to get his "white friend" to get immigration lawyer to fight his "visit visa" denial? To ask an immigation lawyer in the UK to even look at a case will cost £500. For them to file a motion alone will cot another £1000. That is a total of £1,500. Where do you want him to get that £1500 from? Oh...you want his white friend to pay that fees? You clearly don't know what you are talking about. But like I said..you don't have to agree with my point. Olugerm, yoruba elders have an adage that says "Igbeyin lo nye oloku ada". A rough translation means..."A farmer that goes to the farm with a blunt cutlass despite all advice will have himself to blame when he realizes he can't cut grass with it". Nobody knows it all. Not even me. We share on here to learn from each other and get advice that will help us get what we want in our pursuit of travels. I hope you will take sensible advice. God bless. |

Olugerm: thanks but this one tire me sha but I know someone like me have applied I get visa cos I don't know business to do cos I'm studying and working, I'm collecting my salary cash. So I will wait till I get everything before applying again oga oooo Dude. Stop rushing to apply for a visa with your current circumstances. If you are desperate like this, you will likely get yourself on a 10year ban. In the end, you will even lose your "white friend". You are young. You are ambitious. That is a good thing. For now, focus on building a better economic situation for yourself. E.g. Starting a business or getting a job that pays big. Heck, you might need to wait few years, but it's better that way. If you absolutely want to see your UK friend, that is easy. Get her to visit you in Nigeria. Alternatively, you can save up money and go on holiday to Ghana or even the UAE with your friend and enjoy each others company. Build a relationship with your friend. If it leads to something more serious, in the next few years, you'll be ready (because your circumstances would have changed) and it will be easier to get a visa. Trust me, if you rush and have the "I want a visa now" mentality and you get yourself banned, five years from now, you will look back at your stupidity and wish you listened to everyone on this forum. Have you noticed that the people who get visa the most are those who are not desperate to leave Nigeria? I hope you'll listen to my advise. I am giving it because I was once young like you. Ride on the shoulders of the giant here. Do the right thing. |

fumat: Good Afternoon House,
Would it be possible if someone could shed more light on how i can effectively show financial/economic/family ties for my mother in law as i am planning to apply for a 6 month UK visit visa for her?
Background information about her - No travel history - Full time house wife - "depends on her husband" - Presently no huge saving in her account. "less than 100k"
- I will be taking full responsibilities of her expenses e.g accommodation, flight, feeding. - Would it be advisable to send some money to her account for like 6 months so she can show this or my account only would be sufficient? - What other documents can help to show ties?
Thanks I am not an expert, but from my own little experience of applying on behalf of my mum, the following documents will support/help: 1. Her marriage certificate (if she and your FIL have one) 2. A letter of authorization (written by your FIL giving permission for his wife to visit the UK) 3. Your FIL passport photo page attached to the letter above + his bank statement (if he sends money to your MIL account regularly). 4. Any assets such as landed property or house with their name on (e.g. C of O, Land Deeds) 5. ANy circumstances that will show she will remain in Nigeria e.g. Does she take care of anyone? Is there proof of it? I am sure some of the gurus in the house will give further insight too. Just my 2 cent |

edmasta01: So my mums visa application to come and visit me and my family for a one month visit to see her grandson (5 month old) on holiday was refused.
Attached is the refusal letter.
She is not a first timer. She has visited us in the UK before back in 2011 to attend our marriage blessing (wedding) and she only spent two weeks which was what she quoted on her application form at the time.
Here are the documents that I submitted:
1. Invitation letter 2. My British passport 3. 6 month pay slip from work 4. My Son's birth certificate 5. My current account statement (with balance of less than £100) 6. My Savings account statement (with balance of a little over £7,000 pounds) 7. My wife account (where all our household expenses are debited from)
8. My mortgage statement (to prove my residence)
9. 11 months worldremit money transfer receipts (I send N50,000 each to my dad and mum every month for their upkeep. I also include a money transfer receipt from february this year showing that I sent home money to pay their rent at the flat that they live in).
My mum submitted the following documents
1. Her bank statement (that reflect the monthly 50k money transfer I do through the agent into her account every month)
2. My dads bank statement (that shows that I send the same amount to my dad too)
3. A letter from my dad stating that he is giving permission for my mum to visit us in the UK for one month
4. A copy of my dads passport showing that they bear the same last name (they don't have a marriage cert. They married under traditional marriage)
5.
In the invitation letter, I stated that I will be funding her trip from Lagos to Nigeria to heathrow and to my house and back to Nigeria at the end of the trip using the money saved in my savings account (i quoted the account number).
I also said that my parents are dependent on me and I send them regular stipends (with the money transfer proof and their bank statement to show it) as they are older (dad is in his 70''s) and do not have any form of income like pension.
I also mentioned that she will be staying the entire trip at our residence. And i mentioned that I have earmarked the sum of £3,500 out of the funds available in my in my HSBC savings account for her trip.
I gave a detailed budget below:
Flight Ticket and Airport Transfer £1,000 Grocery/Food shopping £600 (for four weeks) Visit to attractions £500 Stipends (for her to spend) £750 Travel Insurance £150 Miscellaneous £500
Can you good people in the house help me look over this and suggest what I can do to resolve the issues that the ECO raised. Thanks. Hello ekpotek, EndlessGrace, churockng, justwise, blza and everyone else that contributed to my post above. I want to sincerely thank you all for all your advice/suggestions. My Mum was FINALLY granted a 6 months Visa by following all your suggestions as a result of my post above. Here's what I did (for the benefit of others who might have this same issue): 1. She wrote a cover letter stating that she has travelled before, and never defaulted on her travel history. She also stated that she is a home maker and even though she stated that she was unemployed, it's because she does not collect an official salary with pay slip. 2. I sent her £1,100 towards the cost of flight (flights in august were expensive when we reapplied, so I sent enough) through worldremit and included the receipt in the application. 3. I transferred some £3,000 from my savings account into my current account and wrote in my letter of invitation to that effect. I also collected a letter from my UK bank to show that the funds in my savings and current account are available to me to spend. 4. I included a flight itinerary to show the cost of flight and that the amount transferred will cover it. And with lots of prayers (i know...sometimes, it takes that) voila! Thank you everyone!!!! |

Veacon: Good evening all Gurus in the house, please I need your advice on this issue. I intend to apply for settlement visa to join my fiancé in November and we intend to have our registry marriage in October. However, my fiance has dual citizenship; British and Nigerian, We intended he went through the registry marriage as a British citizen but we're being asked for security clearance from the DSS or a fee of N100,000 to wave that requirement.
1. My question is, would my fiance going through the registry marriage as a Nigerian hamper my settlement visa application? 2. Having the marriage in October and applying for the visa in November won't pose any issues for us in the visa application, would it?
Thanks If you are getting married in a local registry, I don't think they'd ask you for your fiance nationality (as long as your fiance is Nigerian by blood - And does not physically look white). Just apply to get married in a local registry. You will get a marriage certificate. That is all the UK govt want to proof you are married.ANd yes, you can get married in october and apply for a visa in November. I know this because I have been though this. But that was 8 years ago, not sure if the process has changed though. Just my 2 cent. |

dedecoder: My sincere apologies for responding late.
There is no section in the form where you are asked the grade or class you graduated with but in your SOP, you would have to touch on the reason you are settling for a PGD instead of master's.
What I am saying is that you should resist the temptation of saying you would have gone for master's if not for your 2.2. That can create some concerns in the VOs mind. ("Can" emphasised).
Simply tow the less complicated line of arguing that PGD training offered in Colleges are more project-focused and detailed in practical... (You get what I mean now?).
Getting a master's with a 2.2 is not completely impossible but you would have gotten 5 PGD offers before getting one.
Shalom! You are far too kind! I appreciate you loads for the support/advice. I will look into this thread to find other S.O.P template and start building up a formidable one to use. But first of all, I need to get her to apply for a PGD course in information systems or related course. Thanks very much and God bless. |

jnyuwa02: Truly Number 7 is a great point. You really can satisfy a VO with just one, not all of the things stated. It’s advisable to concentrate on your strongest tie and drive it home to the VO. You can talk about your other ties that is fine because you don’t know which one would work. But find one, the one you think is the strongest, narrow your application on it and drive that point to the VO. That one tie should be theme of your application. It should be one that if a second party is reading through your application, he or she can easily pinpoint and unmissable. With God’s help it will fly. Really just one strong tie can satisfy a VO. Best wishes to everyone. Thank you Jnyuwa02. I will keep this in mind too. One has to write a very strong statement of purpose. |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 14 by edmasta01: 2:06am On Aug 24, 2018 |
dedecoder: Well, whether undergrad, PG, or Masters; in fact, PHD, applicants would always have to prove reasonably that they would leave Canada after their authorized stay. So, it's not a question for PGD applicants alone.
To me personally, if you can't prove or argue that you would leave Canada after completing PGD, you hardly can prove same for masters. Just get your acts together and work on any of the following as possible ways of convincing the VO.
1. Family ties (parents, spouse, siblings)
2. Job or work (if applicable)
3. Career prospect at home if 2 above isn't applicable. As in, you have to justify the huge sum you are about to expend on a PGD. Is there a booming job here in your field that you think can offset the cost?
4. Relationship (are you engaged if not married?)
5. Have you traveled and returned before? That's a good point too.
6. You've got a landed property? Get it surveyed in your name.
7. Prayer. I'm sorry I put this last; it should actually be the first. You can include all these things and the VOs would still say they aren't satisfied. And guess what? With God, you can satisfy a vo with *just* one of it.
Please take point 7 very seriously and give all your very best in gathering the appropriate documents. Once this is done, swing to action and God's grace would fill up the rest.
*Before I close; never use your 2.2 as an argument for settling for PGD.* Shalom! Wow! Thanks so much for your detailed explanation dedecoder! I sincerely appreciate you for taking the time to write this out. Respect! You are right about prayers. Its super important too. In your last sentence, you mentioned to "never use 2.2. as an argument for settling for PGD. Are you saing this in regards to when filling out documentation to be submitted to the VO? Or do you mean that with a 2.2, it's possible to apply for a masters degree? |

Good evening everyone, So I am advising my younger sister to study further in Canada (rather than the Uk that she originally intended). She has a 2.2 in her Bachelors Degree in Pure & Applied Physics.
She currently works in Marketing/Business management in a reputable organization. I read somewhere on here that the Canadian Immigration rarely grant a visa for Postgraduate Diploma courses as it's difficult to prove that the candidate will leave at the end of their study.
How true is this, considering that she is unable to do a masters without doing a pgd due to her bachelors degree being a 2.2
I'll appreciate any/every advice I can get. Thanks |

You budget line should only be for her flight ticket and perhaps £100 for incidentals. Accommodation and feeding is free. She coming there to see her grandson, so all those expense like shopping, etc should be eliminated. Move money to you current account and re submit both current and saving accounts and explain to ECO to show you have access you saving account, you have moved £2000 to your current account. Then you can also credit your mum account with flight ticket money and £100 pocket money. Again move the fund from your savings and explain to the ECO that you doing this so that you have access to this account and she can buy her ticket from Nigeria. Is it Employed (and then select housewife?) or Self Employed (and then give occupation as housewife/homemaker)

ekpotek: Sorry for this refusal. My take is that why did you say that your mother is unemployed? Secondly your budget for her visit was expectionaly high. She only requires return fight ticket +100£ for any travel incidence. What ever you spend on her during her visit is non of anyone business. You can re apply and only present your saving account. Or move money to your current account and explain in a cover letter that ECO did not take into account your savings which is sufficient to support your mother visit. Thanks very much ekpotek. I mentioned that she is unemployed because she is a housewife. She does not have a job. Or am i wrong to think that being a housewife is considered a "job"? The only source of income she gets is what I send to her account directly every month (same with dad). My dad is in his 70's and closed down his business too without any source of income. Kindly advise. How do I address the budget in the new application? Should i create a new budget stating only that I am paying for her travel expense? ANy chance you can help with examples of how to deal with this please? I am happy to present my savings account alone. But won't the ECO want o see proof of my earnings? hence why I include the current account in the first place? Thanks for your help on this. |

Endlessgrace: If you could move funds to your current account to show it’s readily available for use, that would be better. Also if its possible for you to send some amount to your mum’s naira account back home to cover some of her travelling expenses like flight ticket and mention that in your letter, that was what i did when i invited my sister. I will move the funds. I move money out of my current account to savings for the purpose of accountability with savings. I follow a british money saving forum that suggest that's the best way to save. Will explain this to the consular and move the funds into the current account for the trip. Will also send some money to my mums account and explain that in the application. I wonder if Ekpotek has any other suggestions too to support the amazing suggestions I recieved here. |

churockng: In my opinion I think u need to write a cover letter to explain why the debit of £64 in March, then maybe transfer the money u wish to use on ur mom from ur savings account to ur current account then have ur bank to give u a reference letter which shows dat the said amount is easily available to u.. then attach all other documents... Just my opinion but u can try and get a more accurate answer from the gurus. Thank you very much for this suggestion. I will put that into consideration and do this and reapply. |

Endlessgrace: I have said it before, the VO most times do not consider funds in your UK savings account when they process visa applications. To them, funds in a savings account is not readily available to you so they will only consider the balance in your current account which in this case is already in debit as stated in the letter. This i feel is the major reason why she was denied the visa. So what exactly is the remedy to this situation? |

So my mums visa application to come and visit me and my family for a one month visit to see her grandson (5 month old) on holiday was refused.
Thanks.

Eggyloo: You will need to register your business name for taxes payable to FIRS. In your case, VAT. You would be issued a TIN. You will need to register with the nearest FIRS in your area.
For income tax purposes, you would be directly assessed by State Internal Revenue Service. Yes, you need to register your business name with the relevant internal revenue service. However, all your income (employment and personal busines) and corresponding income taxes would be grouped together under your tax payer ID. The reason is, you and your business are seen as one entity.

https:///eUnshNw Thanks so much for this explanation Eggyloo. Here's what I understand from your explanation: 1. I'll register with FIRS to collect my TIN for the purpose of VAT? That means, FIRS will give me TIN and i will remit VAT with FIRS? 2. I'll also need to go to LIRS (biz is in lagos), to register my business for the purpose of income tax. How will LIRS group my PAYE income and sole proprietor biz income as one? Will they be able to do this with the TIN? |

barristerzinny: you have to register another tin number and also register for value added tax. Go to www.firs.gov.ng to find out or visit any firs office near you or engage a tax consultant, if you are still in doubt. Will go to my nearest FIRS. Many thanks. Does this mean when I get TIN from FIRS, my tax will be paid to the state government (LIRS) |

SOFTENGR: Speak with the tax officials in the state.
I believe another tax ID can be generated for you as a sole proprietor, different from PAYE. Thanks for this. It's in Lagos State. |

I have a full time job. In my job, I have a PAYE TIN.
I have now opened a new sole proprietorship business (business registration) few weeks ago and looking to put my tax in order.
Will i be able to use the TIN from my PAYE job or do I have to apply for a separate TIN for my business?
Can someone who has experience of this advise please. Thanks. |
