Three suspects have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for vote buying during the Osun governorship election.

The suspects identified were identified as; Muriat Olalekan, 61,Hamzat Muniru,65 and Adeagbo Wasiu.

A statement by the force spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood on Saturday in Abuja, said that the suspects were allegedly arrested in the act of vote buying.

Moshood said the arrest followed the deployment of operatives of IGP Monitoring Unit and the Intelligence Response Team of the Force.

The spokesman said that the sum of N720, 000 was recovered from the suspects.

He said investigation into the cases was ongoing and the suspects would be arraigned on completion of investigation.

Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Osun State election, says voting-buying has negatively affected the exercise.

Akinbade spoke to newsmen in Ogbagba after the accreditation and voting exercise.

“ Vote-buying has cast shadows on the governorship election. Vote-buying had taken the shine off the election,’’he said/

However, he commended voters for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

The former Secretary to the State Government, who voted at his Oba’s Compound, Ward 3, Polling Unit 1 at 10.35am, also said that the nation’s democracy was improving on all fronts.

“By and large, we are inching gradually to a convenient point in our polity.

“ Everybody involved in this election should be commended; the INEC officials, security agents, electorate, politicians, and others.

“At least, reported cases of electoral violence are limited, apart from the incidence of vote buying that dotted everywhere while the exercise lasted.

“ We just hope something will be done to it in organized electoral engagements in the future, ” Akinbade said.

The ADC standard bearer appealed to the people of the state to remain peaceful and not promote violence after the release of the result.

However, two Civil Society Organisations monitoring the Osun governorship election on Saturday said the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC’s) secret balloting had so far made it impossible for people to openly buy and sell votes.

The Executive Director of YIAGA Africa, Mr. Samson Itodo, said that the group was monitoring the election in 250 polling units.

Itodo said that so far, it was obvious that INEC took deliberate steps to ensure that the secrecy of balloting was not compromised.

“There were two things INEC assured the stakeholders of, first was the reconsideration of the polling units, the ballot box, and the cubicle would be placed closer to each other.

.“The polling officials were carrying out voter education in the morning, especially on how to roll their ballot papers according to the election guidelines provided by INEC guidelines.

“So, INEC kept to its promise of secret balloting. However, there were still some instances where voters intentionally exposed their ballot, in fact one actually happened before me.’’

Itodo encouraged voters to stop doing that because it would undermine the integrity of the entire electoral process.

He said that at the moment, the group had not observed any vote buying or selling activity though it was still very premature to state anything,

The National Coordinator, Election Monitor, Mr. Abiodun Ajijola, said that he had so far not witnessed nor heard of vote buying during the election.

Ajijola said that things were moving as planned except for one or two issues on card readers where it was not authenticating properly.

He said that a request was made and something was being done about it.

The groups, therefore, commended INEC for the conduct of the exercise, so far.

3,010 Polling Units and 755 Polling Points spread across the three senatorial districts and 30 local governments areas of the state.

NAN also reports that although 48 parties are participating in the election, the frontline candidates are Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic (SDP).

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that more than 8,000 members of the National Youth Service Corps serving in Osun State will be deployed as ad hoc staff in the conduct of the September 22 governorship poll holding in the state.



According to the Resident Electoral Commissioners in the state, Olusegun Agbaje, “over 8,000 corps members are part of the expected 15,000 ad-hoc staff who are going to use for the conduct of the September governorship election. We have already sourced for over 90 percent of the ad hoc staff we are going to be required for the election and most of them are from the higher institutions around.”

He also stated that the commission registered a total number of 1, 677, 384 voters as against 1, 407, 000 of 2014 but said out of these persons, 1, 144, 273, representing 68.5 percent had collected their permanent voter cards while there were still 524, 251 uncollected cards.

The REC said, “We want to improve on the 2014 performance. We want to start by 8 am in all polling units across all local government areas of the state. This time around accreditation and voting would be done simultaneously. I want to also implore the electorate to eschew any attempt to bribe or accept a bribe from anyone during the poll because that is a violation of the Electoral Act and anyone who does that would be arrested and prosecuted.”

A 72-year-old man, identified as AbdulRasheed AbdulQuadri was electrocuted to death while going back home from the jumat service at the Central Mosque on Humani Street, Bajulaiye in Shomolu, Lagos on Friday and the PHCN officials were held responsible for his death.

According to reports from residents around the area, AbdulQuadri was trying to cross the gutter in front of his house when he was electrocuted when he was said to have touched the iron bar of a mini-goal post (popularly known as monkey post) that was close to a nearby electric pole.

The electrocution was caused when a PHCN official had previously disconnected a line and left it lying around without informing residents of the area.

One of the neighbors, who witnessed what happened, told Sunday Sun: “When he fell we rushed to see what was wrong with him. That was when we noticed the electric cable coiled around the monkey post.

At that point, we realized that Baba had been electrocuted. And it was dangerous for anyone to go and touch him.” Residents disclosed that IKEDC had, on Monday, July 2, conducted mass disconnection exercise in the neighborhood.

Many of them alleged that the technical staff of IKEDC, who carried out the exercise did not properly secure the wires after the disconnections.

PDP candidate in Ekiti State governorship election, Professor Kolapo Olusola, has showed his dissatisfaction in the election result as he says that he is going to challenge the results of the poll as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after APC candidate, Kayode Fayemi, was announced as the winner of the election.

He wrote;

“You are all aware of the unfortunate and dangerous events of the past 24 hours, in which our governorship election was hijacked by political desperadoes leveraging on “Federal might” to pervert the electoral process, subvert the will of Ekiti people, and viciously steal the mandate willingly and freely given to me on a massive scale by our people.

“PDP and I won the election overwhelmingly, receiving more than 70% of lawful votes cast and winning in almost all of the State’s 16 local government areas. I therefore reject the falsified results being bandied by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which purportedly gave the election to the All Progressives Congress and its Candidate; Dr. John Kayode Fayemi. This is the most audacious electoral robbery of our recent history. It shall not stand. By the grace of Almighty God and your support, I will pursue and regain my mandate.

“To rig this election, the APC leveraged on its well-advertised but patently obnoxious and anti-democratic “Federal might” to intimidate, harass, victimize, oppress, and brutalize PDP leaders, members, and the voting public all over Ekiti. This brutal and barbaric process, which started well before the election, did not spare Gov. Ayo Fayose and me; as the whole world had seen and had condemned. It is quite unfortunate that the harassment has continued even after the election.

“On Saturday, July 14th, the security agencies and INEC upped the ante, threw all caution to the wind, went back on their promises to be impartial and to conduct credible elections; they sided with APC and Fayemi to the chagrin of our party, myself, and the good people of Ekiti State. Despite the alarm we had earlier raised, the security agencies not only supported but also supervised
• The indiscriminate arrest of our party leaders and agents
• The harassment and brutalization of voters on a massive scale, especially in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere and the suburbs
• Giving cover, tacit as well as active support to thugs imported into Ekiti by APC to snatch ballot boxes, create confusion, cause mayhem, and drive away voters in PDP strongholds
• Giving cover to APC agents as they financially and openly induced voters and bought votes at polling stations; and
• Driving away our polling agents from collation centres and illegal seizure of documents and materials in their possession, among many other infractions.

INEC on its own part reneged on its promise to have results counted, declared, and pasted on the wall of each polling station. There was nowhere INEC transmitted results from the polling centres as earlier promised. Ballot boxes were illegally moved to INEC offices while our agents were disallowed from following the process.

INEC also allowed late voting by APC in hideouts when it was obvious the figures still would not add up after all the infractions mentioned above. Still, when all of these shenanigans still failed to give them the figures they needed, they stopped the announcement of results ward-by-ward, caused a deliberate power outage at the collation centre, with no alternative source of power provided for a long time, and then wrote results in favour of APC and its candidate.



Without doubt, what has played out in Ekiti is the APC template for the 2019 General Election, where they have mapped out Rivers and Akwa Ibom as States they must capture at all costs, like they are now trying to do Ekiti. It is now left for the opposition and opposition figures, most especially presidential hopefuls in 2019, to stand up to be counted in the struggle to roll back President Muhammadu Buhari’s creeping fascism, or throw in the towel without a fight.

This is not just a sad day for Ekiti but also for democracy in Nigeria. Nothing demonstrates this better than the gloom that has enveloped our dear State since they announced their convoluted result. Ekiti mourns! But I ask our people not to be despondent but to keep hope alive, quoting the inimitable Chief MKO Abiola. This is another battle we will fight and win.

In doing this, however, I appeal to all Ekiti sons and daughters to eschew violence. They will try and provoke you but the good Lord will help you to keep calm. Taking a cue from our great leader and democrat par excellence, ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, I wish to reiterate that my ambition is not worth the blood of a single Ekiti son or daughter. We are not cultists and bloody hounds like them and shall therefore not allow them turn Ekiti into a killing field like they have done in the Middle Belt.

It remains for me to thank Ekiti for standing by me and our great party. Our royal fathers and the Oloris, teachers, civil servants, Okada riders, Labour leaders, market women, artisans, and students – I appreciate your unflinching support. We thank every Nigerian desirous to see the growth and defence of our renascent democracy.
We thank the international community for their efforts and trust they will not let our people down in this their most trying moment.

Neymar recovered sufficiently from a broken foot to play in his side's World Cup opener against Switzerland but is continuing rehabilitation on the injury.

On Monday, Neymar had posted a picture of his foot receiving treatment alongside the message: 'Working hard.'

Neymar broke his foot back in February while playing for the Parisians but showed on social media that he is still receiving treatment to get it back up to 100 percent.
