i am not so good battlling with words but i beg to differ on the fact that Nigeria is a Big Joke

NIGERIA IS NOT A JOKE AT ALL and only a little time will tell

IF NIGERIA IS A JOKE, what does that make us the citizens(remember that includes you)

It is no problem if you do not want to go back to Nigeria at all but saying NIgeria is a Joke is a slap on generations yet unborn.
Politics / Re: 'Return Home', Fashola Charges Nigerians In Diaspora by edusegzy(m): 10:46pm On Aug 21, 2008
After this post i expect a lot of unpleasant replies no hard feelings in advance but i must say this give my point of view a thought.

I am presently in the united state pursuing my phd and i must say i keep wondering when we'll ever get to such level of civilization. Then i tried to study the people and and their history and one thing is clear, these people deserve the quality of life they enjoy and even though according to history world power moves from one  kingdom to another  The US without any doubt will be super power for such a long time.

Then you want to ask me why?

The answer is the solution to our problems as Nigerians.

AND THE ANSWER IS ATTITUDE AND MIND SET

I am a staunch believer in Nigeria and her great future but I must say this to us whether you are in Nigeria or in the Diaspora,i think our attitude to the progress of our country is something we need to deal with.

Are we not tired of complaining and criticizing politians.(this in itself is not wrong because it is in bringing forth different point of view that we can come up with a great idea) but if this is all we do ,then we r wrong.

Remember a great country is made not born

For those who ask what is in it for me:America is great at the cost of the blood of some people. There are young men and women that are not as old as some of us who will die or has died in the war in IRAQ because they  believe in thier country.

For the young ones i am quite aware that the country has not done so much for us,but have you thought of doing something about it.Then you ask what can you do.OK start  by being the best in your Job.Stop speaking ill of the country and probably get involve in causes that you think can move our dear country Nigeria forward.

I BELIEVE A GREAT COUNTRY IS NOT BORN BUT MADE BY MEN and not just a Man.

My philosophy is this,if our greatgrandfather refused to plan for us why can't we decide to stop the cycle.and for your information we'll keep complaining till 100 generations to UNTIL someone does something.

Guyz i know what it is to be in an hold up for four hours,i know what it is for NEPA to wreck someones business,i know what it is not to have enough money to pay school fees,i am aware but i have made up my mind that despite all these facts,i will do something.NIgeria will be a greater nation because I am a NIgerian.

God Bless Nigeria,God Bless Nigerians and especially you

sec x=

sec x (sec x +tan x)/(sec x +tan x)=sec2 x+sec x tan x/(sec x +tan x)

Shells at the Shore
question

Jan, Kate, Mike, and Sam have lots of shells and many pails. They put groups of 10 shells in each pail.

* Kate has 2 pails and 3 more shells left over.

* Sam has 1 more pail than Kate, but no shells left over.

* Jan has 4 more shells than Sam.

* Kate has 2 more shells than Mike.

How many shells does each have?

5 Black socks and 5 Green socks are in a dark room. What is the minimum number of socks you must take out in order to get a complete pair?
a.) 2 b.) 3 c.) 4 d.) 5

if you take 2 it is possible for you to have one green and one black .That way you dont have a complete pair.

if you take out three there is no way you wouldn't have a complete pair.
it is either a black and two green or a green and two black, or three green, or three black and that way you have a complete pair in each of the situations.

so the minimum number of sucks you must take out is 3(answer :b)

there are 9 spaces to be filled and each space can be filled in 10 different ways hence the number of different codes to be generated would be 10^9

i.e 10 X 10 X10X10X10X10X10 X10X10=10^9

eyohimself,
Thou art highly motivated.

.
i was working on my accomodation hence i was not chanced to be on the net.But i'm back to rub minds with the great eyohimself, richybalcky et al

Eyohimself:

@ RichyBlack,

Yeah, I didn't notice it. There was a mistake and it has been corrected.

A bag contains 5 one dollar coins, 4 fifty cent coins, and 3 twenty cent coins. A boy

is asked to take 2 coins at random from the bag as his birthday gift, what is the probability of the boy drawing the maximum possible amount?

a) 5/33 b) 11/66 c) 1/6 d) 5/12

the correct answer should be A(5/33)

EXPLANATION

if the boy is to draw the maximum possible amount , then the two coins must be one dollar coins each.
to draw the first coin the probability would be 5/12
to drawthe second the probability would be 4/11

hence the probability of drawing the two would be
5/12*4/11=5/33

I WOULD COME UP WITH MORE EXPLANATIONS

@edusegzy
Please help me find the eigen values and eigen vectors of the matrix A.

3 5 -2 0 7 -4 1

0 -8 2 -3 0 9 -7
where A =
6 1 -8 3 0 4 -6

1 9 -1 -6 0 7 0

-2 -5 -9 7 3 0 8

SOLUTION: for all i know a matrix has eigen values and eigen vectors if it is a square matrix. This is a rectangular matrix of order (5X7).
anyone that has anything contrary should post it

there are 10 balls of different colours

for minimum amount : the first ball will be gumball
for the first 10 balls there is 1 gumball,ie the first ball of the 10

for the 2nd 10 balls there is 1 gumball,ie the first ball of the 10

for the 3rd 10 balls we only need the first one which would be the gumball.
hence we have 10+10+1=21

one quater is $0.25

three gumball cost one quater which is $0.25

we can get 7 three balls in 21 i.e

21/3=7

the total amount is now 7*$0.25=$1.75

you sound to me like you are really ready for GRE with all the vocabs that kept popping up in your writings .i wrote my GRE on july 27th i scored 780 quant , 610 verbal not too good though.
eyohimself i really want to hear that you score lot more that this.i have a friend who scored 1520 (790 quant,730 verbal)and i'm seriously looking towards breaking that record. so i'm registering again very soon.be kind to let me know which school you are choosing because apart from a high GRE score and your undergrad grade you need to choose a school that you have a high chance of being admitted. If you schooled in Nigeria my brother it is not a plus for you because the guyz from asia are dominating the admitted list. They score so high as in 1600/1600.(get the picture)so the advice go for a low ranking school and walk your way up from there

solution:
21/3=7*.25=$1.75

day in day out ,you sweep me off my feet with your ingenuity.
thanks for saving the day.

eyohimself.
i like to solve the question the lazy way.
since the question is a GRE question then it should be an objective question.
would you be kind to post the options? then i'll use what i call elimination method to knock out which cannot be the answer. grin.
On a very serious note i think you should learn (if you have not been doing it) to use the elimination method when solving the GRE questions.
i hope you'll be kind also to give your input on this thread

Hello all,
today's tip
a number is divisible by 5 if it ends in 5 or 0
eg1 30

eg23000000787675

a number is divisible by 8 if the last three digits forms a number divisible by 8

eg1 1008

008 are the last three digits
008/8=1

eg2
765876565657278320

the last three digits are 3,2,0

it forms the number 320

320/8=40

hence

765876565657278320 is divisible by 8
