The real question is ‘what is a Russian win’ in this case?. Even if they succeed in taking over Ukraine and installing a puppet president, those sanctions will not be lifted .

I want to believe Putin thought it through but it’s really hard imagining what a win means here. If he eventually backs down, it’s much worse…… it’s looking like a dead end that might force him into nuking the west or he is forced out of office by his people.
