Anyway wetin consign me... If na me, as long na Chinese version i dey hold. No Google services, bootloader locked, no multiple languages, no regions, update na Chinese version, installed version, same Chinese, obob, i update straight away. Even wen raj fixed my phone, he to me to go from shop rom u still have to go to chinese rom fes... And the update is chinese rom... Anyways.. E no consign me.
It's no big deal, the owner of the phone should just be aware of the options available to him, if he is paranoid then fastboot flash is the way or he should use the feedback app on MIUI, in one of the options I think there is a list of official every room ever made for any device, if he sees his rom version there then it should be safe to update it but if he wants absolute peace of mind then unlock bootloader plus fasboot flash is his safest option, whether the rom in the phone is shop rom or not

If he is ready to take that risk, then ALL THE BEST
All this long talk, he should just request to unlock bootloader, then when he gets permission, use any rom whether na China or Global rom that is available to fasboot flash it using miFlash tool. That is the guaranteed way to banish shop rom. Entering brickland cuz of unforeseen guess work is not a funny business o

Click like if your phone display is permanently on reading mode.

Click share if not.

Mine is permanently on reading mode. As a heavy phone user I think it's good for my eyes.
Wow, why bother to put the phone display in permanent reading mode when you can just set it to be active only at night? Anyways that's how I set mine

Which version of Orange Fox? 8.3? Cuz anything less is reported to give problems. You can try flashing the latest firmware update, that works for everyone I know that had similar issues to yours

How is it too much though? It's a business plan that has been working for them. The major OEMs release so many similar devices every year so why should Xiaomi be any different? The problem lie with the end users, we always want the newest device and if you aren't disciplined enough your pocket will suffer for it.
I was under the impression that Xiaomi would be different but I guess I'm wrong.

Was talking about my observations with the Note 6 pro. Can't possibly talk about the other variants as i have no first hand experience.
Well then, I would say your custom rom experience with note 6 pro is very premature, custom ROMs need time to be stable to use as a daily driver. I would personally not recommend custom rom on a Xiaomi phone until you update the stock rom to the next android version. By that time custom ROMs have matured n as that would be the last android version upgrade you would be getting from Xiaomi, it would be okay to start trying custom ROMs after then.

Table Shaking mood activated!

Been on the Note 6 pro official Telegram group for quite some time now and here are my observations.

1. MIUI is awesome albeit some minor limitations which dnt matter much.

2. Custom roms are way overrated as they come with one bug or the other. Just find way to stick with your stock coz flashing every time is not worth it, you never get satisfied.

3. Gcam. Produces amazing shots, but totally not worth it in my opinion as it is as buggy as hell, but if you can find the perfect one for your device, great. Happy searching!

These assertions are totally based on my observations from the Note6pro group, not general assumption.

So to the current user & prospective buyers, just enjoy your phone like the normal Iphone user.

Coming from a former flasher of everything & anything. grin

Congrats to the bros that the wife put to birth and found his car. Its coming late, but it sha came. God bless you.

Hope I didn't interrupt any topic on ground. I love this thread.
In as much we all have our preferences, I think it is misleading to hype MIUI for working as stock rom SHOULD work when you have another Chinese company like Oneplus that is doing similar, sticking to ASOP n adding to AOSP without breaking all the work that Google n other contributors put into the making each version of Android.
Stock rom performance will always be better than custom rom even if the gap is currently shrinking, no one puts custom rom on their phones in the search for stock rom performance so you will have to try again with this your table shaking.
As for gcam that requires root, I can't say anything because I am not into rooting but like everything else in life, it is all about risk vs reward, if you know what you are doing n have realistic expectations, then go for gcam.
Finally as I have said before, Xiaomi releasing 2 to 3 versions of Redmi in a year is just too much imho, if you have the money, just buy Mi series or Mi A series n rest, or if you have thick skin carry on with anything Redmi
By the way, I'm an unfortunate Redmi 5 plus user running a perfectly working AEX v6.1 custom rom

The people that will buy the soon to be launched redmi pro 2 have mind o, let Xiaomi not abandon them again like what happened to the 1st redmi pro on android 6. Maybe this time will be different as the phone will be launched with SD instead of MTK, same MTK that Nokia was complaining about as being unnecessarily hard to code on, anyways make we dey look

So am a newbie because of my own personal choice?

This really shows you are even the newbie here 'cause if you are not, you will know that chances of you getting a shop ROM installed for you is if there is no global version of the phone produced officially from Xiaomi.... And Xiaomi doesn't market those phones outside China. I only know of three phones without global version; Mi Mix 3, Mi 6x, Redmi 6 pro

So if you end up buying a phone with a shop ROM , that means you didn't do your research well thus making you the 'newbie'
I didn't say you're a newbie o, I just gave an example of a common mistake many newbies make where they don't investigate a Xiaomi phone's global availability before purchasing. You also didn't answer my question, don't you honestly think the UI differences between MIUI apps n Google play store apps are annoying? Anyways as I have said before, Android One is mid-range android as Google intended after starting their Pixel line n the Mi A series is the best of both worlds (Google plus Xiaomi combo) mid-range series IMHO
PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by Eeechenmeelee1: 12:13pm On Dec 19, 2018
Maybe AOSP used to be boring but everything changed since android 7 n when Google launched the pixel series, heck some people were complaining that android pie is too iOSy

It's a matter of choice bros.... Me personally, I don't like stock Android; looks boring somehow
Boring as how? You like the annoying UI difference when ever you jump between MIUI apps n play store apps? Biko I value my peace of mind, newbies assume that because a Xiaomi phone is available on AliExpress then it must have official rom, only to find out later it's shop rom. Abeg peace of mind with boring Mi A series>>>>>>>>> anything below other Mi series(me being generous)
PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by Eeechenmeelee1: 11:38am On Dec 19, 2018
Shop rom this .... Market rom that angry you see why Mi A series make sense, from day one you get best software standard of Google with one of the best hardware on a unbelievable budget
