"Stepping out of the midrange into Premium range"

That doesn't sound good. If Redmi brand steps out of midrange that means Xiaomi has no further plans for cheap affordable midrange phones. They want to start selling only expensive phones like Samsung and Apple. That's not a good move considering it's the midrange Redmi phones that made the Xiaomi brand so popular and successful.
Not necessarily true, I think what Xiaomi is trying to do is to capture as much customer base as possible for each brand ie Mi series, Poco Series n Redmi series. For example there maybe people that may like the Redmi note series but only buy flagships, now with each brand sporting its own "flagship", "midrange" n "budget" phone, there's literally no excuse anyone can give to not get a Xiaomi phone. Smart n aggressive move imho
PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by Eeechenmeelee1: 5:49pm On Feb 02, 2019
Like play like play, the Redmi note 6 pro, Redmi 6/6A/6 pro are the LAST set of Redmis under the Mi brand. I think we need to do something on this thread to commemorate this. We should all say at least 1 nostalgic thing about our favourite Redmi phone. As I'm a new comer to the Xiaomi fold as an owner of a modded Redmi 5 plus I don't think I qualify to say anything nostalgic about any Xiaomi phone but old timers on this thread can. wink

Oboi, see Jamb questions, will try and answer some but not all Biko.
Notifications still remain after screen unlock when you pull down the notification panel.
Volume and ring tone panel are separated
No display glitches observed for now involving notification appearance. However, I will take my time to observe some of your concerns.
grin lol no mind me, I was asking because of MIUI is refusing to use AOSP lockscreen, instead they break it then use their shabby implementation that makes notifications on the lockscreen (not the main lockscreen) to disappear when you unlock your phone

Bro we will both agree that Stock is the basis where every other Android UI will build on? So OEM or UI developers can't actually build on nothing.

For instance there isn't screen recorder on Stock android except you will use a 3rd party app, but on must UI there is Screen recorder, thise are the type of add-ons i was referring to

But on the Android Q screen add-ons will come as an inbuilt features on the stock android.

Here is a sample of Android Q
You're correct that in the features department, AOSP usually lags behind OEM android skins. Features can be added to AOSP without breaking what is already working in AOSP, if Oneplus could do it, then Xiaomi n Huawei don't have any excuse, my 2cents

spartacus11:
Stock Android is not a match to MIUI, if you've truly used both we can agree that Stock Android is simply BASIC why MIUI add alot of ADD-ON'S if you're on MIUI you're missing nothing from not using Stock Android, rather you have majority, if not all, of the features of Stock, in addition to the extra features MIUI comes with.

To fully enjoy MIUI and use it to his full capacity you actually need to be Tech savy.

I've come to love Stock Android bcus of been just Basic I'm actually not that type who tweak and tweak, for me Stock is very much ok, but I'm surely missing some good features on MIUI.

One of the biggest app I've missed and will do anything to have on this Stock is the MIUI GALLERY APP Google photos is totally crap, I'm getting used to the Google File APP, But i will take MIUI FILE APP over this any day and anytime.

They is no basis to compare MIUI and Stock, there are on a different class entirely.

The irony is dat, I've actually choose Stock over MIUI not because it is better but because i can go through all the settings and feature in less than a minute, been BASIC does it for me.

So my preference for a device is now as follows

1- STOCK ANDROID OS

2- GLASS BODY DEVICE

3- USB TYPE C PORT

That means i need to start looking at the MI A series, i hope Xiaomi give us one with a Glass body just like what they have done for the Note series.
This your review is just turninoninown grin I really don't have an issue with ORIGINAL features MIUI brings to the table, my own is don't break what was working in AOSP just so you can replace it with mediocre MIUI alternatives for the sake of enforcing the same UI experience across all Xiaomi devices

So far, so good. The Redmi note 7 is ticking all the boxes for me,
Battery- 9/10
Display- 9/10
Design- 8/10
OS - Android 9 is keeping up, and MIUI.... Let me leave that one you all know the rest..muah..!
By the way this is a layman's review, don't come and be asking me complicated questions. Infact, no questions sef because it better experience than imagined... You get the drift.
Just did a security and bug fix update.
How is lockscreen notifications on MIUI pie? Do they disappear if you unlock the phone? Also has volume control for both media n ring tone volume been separated or still tied together? Are there any occasional display glitches with notifications? Like notifications not collapsing correctly or notification icons taking split seconds to show on the lockscreen?
PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by Eeechenmeelee1: 10:58am On Jan 27, 2019
This the first time that a non flagship Xiaomi device is launching with the latest Android version before the Mi A series, does it mean that the note 7 is technically a flagship? Will the note 7 get at least 2 android os upgrades n 3 years plus of updates like a regular flagship?

PhonesRe: The Xiaomi Thread. by Eeechenmeelee1: 12:32am On Jan 25, 2019
It seems my take got under the skin of irate MIUI stans, see all the fanboyism in the world is never going to change these undisputable facts:
1) MIUI has been copying iOS, only recently it decided to be low key about it plus changes introduced in MIUI 10 were long overdue.
2) The strategy Xiaomi is currently using to enforce uniform user experience across all of its devices breaks stock android features in recent devices, replacements for said broken features from Xiaomi are usually subpar when compared to stock android
3) It is absolutely unnecessary to still claim that AOSP is boring when compared to MIUI, just say you like MIUI n move on, no need to justify anything, else such justifications can be used against you
Anyways that is all for now, I think ... Later

Since I switched to custom ROMs, I have stopped bothering about checking notification settings for apps I install, my lockscreen notifications don't disappear whenever I unlock my phone n scrolling through my notifications is much easier, don't have to scroll a certain way to see all my notifications grin

It baffles me that someone will sit down and come up with the above and think it makes sense. undecided

From this your made up theory, what you see as the truth is that anybody that prefers any of the custom OS of any of the major chinese android OEMs is a closet Iphone fan right?
In addition, the only true android fans are the ones that prefer the close to or stock android interface right?

If your answer to both question above is Yes, you my bro are deluded.
Well, if picking standard AOSP whose features work as designed over custom Chinese OSes that break too many AOSP stuff n replace with subpar alternatives is your definition of delusion then you my friend are deluded about what is really delusional grin

True but I don't get why people are still insisting AOSP is boring till now that awesome android pie is here, it's either the person is truly ignorant about what AOSP as intended by Google actually looks n feels like (you can thank awon Transsion holdings aka churners of Infinix, itel n tecno poo phones) or the person is a closet iPhone stan in public denial

You my bro are getting ahead of yourself. So you can suddenly deduce my worth and my supposed preference just because it falls in line with your made-up theory.

"I like MiUi more than Stock Android, because I find Stock android boring"

How does the above assertion make me a closet Iphone fan?
It does because it's exactly what a closet iPhone fan would say, which isn't a bad thing, my grouse is this "AOSP is boring" talk, it's being a smelling dead argument since the arrival of nougat n Google pixel line launch, for me the only reason to bring up that dead argument is that the person is a closet iPhone fan managing a Xiaomi device

Lol hope u don't hav probs with Xiaomi?

I'm a free user it doesn't mata wat brand it is,as long as I'm interested

So many of dem who will even shot u down probably don't use only Xiaomi device

Dat been said, dat doesn't take away the hard work Xiaomi is putting into making their products.

Stock android is cute, u know iPhone is very expensive, u need to chop well to get money buy one

iPhone 8 plus is wat I'm thinking of getting but the Xs max is something my spirit want, but u know say dat money go buy me pencil light

Maybe except henry007 go sell his X at a give away price for me
Noooo!!! I don't have any problem with Xiaomi hardware, their devices are chart topping bang for buck (I will fight anyone that disagrees angry ) what I meant is that Xiaomi break too many of the good stuff in stock android in other to get uniform user experience across their devices, even more annoying is that their replacement for what they broke in stock android is usually subpar. Why can't they apply minimal changes on recent devices n focus on making older devices look like recent devices? Why break everything for all devices? Anyways what's my own, Ayam just waiting for Mi A3 announcement to calm my nerves grin

lolllllllllll, personally love aosp with a little bit of customisation. With that being said MIUI 10 is my best version of MIUI till date, they got so many things very right. If I have 200k for a phone, would still go with an android phone instead of iPhone. iPhone is a big NO for me.
Hmmmm me I am unapologetically team AOSP, Android One for now till I can afford a pixel or oneplus device (my nodded Redmi 5 plus is my personal shame cry )

Lol, Miui is infectious, fluid, and well garnished, i will say one of d thing i like about Xiaomi is not d hardware but the software, especially if you're in Dev Rom

But if u love simplicity, if u can do without alot of d features in Miui den Stock Android does it

It was kind of boring at first using Stock Android coming from Miui, but after some days I've adapte well.

Reason bcus why on Miui i did a lot of customisation on Stable Rom, by the time i moved to Dev Rom i was just using my device like dat, no wallpaper no font change, nothing just using d default settings

That's why it was easy adapting to Stock Android quickly

iPhone is Bea u know
grin thank God you are agree iPhone is bae, furthermore you just confirmed my hypothesis, to you MIUI is "infectious, fluid and well garnished" Why!? Because it's the closest low key thing to iOS that is bae as you n I have agreed. But I hope you're not counting having to manually set up notifications after installing apps as "customisations" or your lockscreen notifications disappearing once you unlock the phone or the notifications icons on the lockscreen taking a split second to show up or random notifications display bugs as more customisations? Or am I missing something?

My point n yours are not mutually exclusive, economic reality forces people to have preferences. My aim was to highlight how "the AOSP is boring" argument is a DOA since nougat n birth of Google's Pixel line, it may or may not be BS, but it is certainly true, whether you like it or not
