“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” his representative told the BBC. A cause of death has not been officially released, though reports citing a county official indicate he died by suicide.

Mitte, who lived with cerebral palsy, drew on his own experience for his portrayal of Walt Jr. on the acclaimed AMC series. “Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion,” said his representative, Sean Reilly.

Offscreen, he was a vocal advocate for disability representation, serving as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and founding The Mitte Foundation. He also had roles in Switched at Birth and The Guardians of Justice, and was promoting a new film, Talking to Strangers, in the days before his death.

Mitte earned a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2014 for his work on Breaking Bad. He is survived by his family and a legacy of advocacy work that challenged stereotypes and promoted greater representation for people with disabilities.

Friday, 10th July 2026, my boss was sitting in front of the electronic shop we sell with two of his friends when one woman looking hungry and tattered, holding a little child's hand with her approached him. She doesn't look like an almajiri. Obviously a southerner who is possibly homeless. She walked to my boss and begged him/them for money and my boss didn't answer her at all. Neither any of his friends. I was on my own in my own little corner but I was aware of everything. So when the woman wanted to leave, I was touched and I called her and handed N2k to her of my own hard earned money. I never stole his one naira before.

I didn't know that was my undoing. I noticed the atmosphere changed with his friends as they were now talking in low tones unlike before.

Like I said, that was on Friday and I went to work on Saturday close from work normally but I could tell my boss usual behaviour with me changed. Long story short, as I went to work on Monday, I was told he instructed I should stop work. My brothers and sisters, that was all. I lost the job I was managing to at least see food chop in this hard economy.


3 months now I'm jobless, going hungry, reflecting on how it happened and not knowing when next I will find another one, just for helping a stranger in front of my employer. I know he felt like I insulted him by helping someone he had turned down. You know that feeling. His employee "doing busy body" perhaps with his stolen money which I never did for once.

Is it painful? Very very. Have I really regretted helping her? Not at all.

I saw a woman say that when she married her husband, he was too unattractive for other women to want him. According to her, women were only interested in his money. Who said nobody wanted him before you?

You may have been the woman who saw potential in him, but that does not automatically mean you were the only woman who could have loved or married him.

More importantly, what exactly does “I made him look good” mean?

Did you pay for his clothes? Help him improve his grooming? Introduce him to a better style? Encourage him to lose weight? Support a lifestyle change? If you genuinely contributed to his transformation, take your credit.

But do not confuse contribution with ownership.

He was the one working. He was the one earning the money. He was the one choosing what to wear, how to groom himself and how to carry himself. His own resources and decisions may have contributed significantly to whatever transformation happened.

Sometimes a person's appearance improves because their financial circumstances improve. Better clothes, better grooming, better nutrition, better healthcare, better fitness opportunities and greater confidence can completely change how someone presents.

The woman beside him may have helped him discover a better version of himself.

She did not necessarily create that version.

There is another uncomfortable lesson here.

If you constantly remind your husband that you married him when nobody wanted him, that you made him attractive and that other women only became interested because of the work you did, you may eventually create resentment.

Marriage should not become a lifelong invoice.

You supported me, therefore I owe you.

I improved you, therefore you belong to me.

I married you before you became successful, therefore nobody else deserves access to you.

Love does not work like that.

You can be proud that you stood by someone during their difficult years without believing you manufactured their entire success.

If your partner becomes more attractive, richer, more confident or more successful after marriage, celebrate the growth.

Just remember something important:

You may have helped build the person they became, but you never owned the person they became.

Marriage is partnership, not possession.

The real test is whether both people remember who stood beside them before the upgrade and still choose each other after it.

You may watch a lot of one thing more than another, but it is impossible to think that you don't watch other things.
