My prayers goes out to all you brothers and sisters out there in Wuhan provenance. I believe, your open letter to President Buhari will attract the needed urgency from the fedral government to evacuate all our people, now there are no Nigerian infected.

Now haven said that, I must also make a comment.

Air peace owner Mr Onyema, living up to the Logo on his air line "Peace to all or Air peace" brought out the humility inside him and evacuated Nigerians of all tribes & religion from South Africa during the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians, only to be mocked and trashed all over social media by mostly... you know...our SW brothers on charges of money laundering.
Thanks for this submission sir.. but can Onyema evacuate Nigeria’s from China?

It's not you to say if they have it or not , any traveller out of that region must be quarantined and tested before being allowed to reintegrate into a new population ..I am realist not an emoticon so I will tell you the truth .. Nigeria doesnt have the capacity to receive people from Corona Virus endemic areas for now ..please bear with us

What exactly do you mean by capacity?? Kindly explain

Be realistic and stop being emotional ...does Nigeria have the capacity to handle any Corona virus case? Even common malaria is still killing 100s daily and you want this useless govt to bring back potential carriers of the virus ? Does the govt have the capacity to quarantine them to prevent spread incase any of them have it ? Please get realistic

Your comment right here shows the level of your stupidity sir. Sorry to say.. if you don’t understand something about a situation, the first thing is to ask questions before disgracing yourself with silly comments.
Now let me enlighten you, Non of our Nigerian brothers has this virus neither is there any carrier amongst them. Now that been said. If they are been evacuated from Wuhan which happen to be the main city the corona virus broke out, they are asking to be quarantined for 14 days or more by the government if that will be ok for them to know their conditions and to prove they don’t have it.. with this been put into place no one in Nigeria will be put into any risk..that is just the preventive measure.. now you are talking Government does not have the capacity to guarantine them, do Algeria , Egypt or Morocco that have evacuated their citizens has the capacity that Nigeria Has? Please do your finding and reason good as possible before you disgrace yourself in a public community..
Thanks

Sorry I dont believe this story. As educated as he is why couldn't he get at least 5 or 10 other Nigerias in China to sign the letter if he is talking on behalf of other Nigerians to be evacuated. Unless he is speaking for himself.
I don’t think you read up this letter

An Open Letter to President Muhammadu Buhari

February 8, 2020

Ayodeji Idowu (Ph.D.)

His Excellency

President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR)

President

Federal Republic of Nigeria

Dear Mr. President,

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI:

AN URGENT REQUEST FOR EVACUATION FOR NIGERIANS STRANDED IN WUHAN, CHINA

My name is Ayodeji Adetunji Idowu, I am one of the Nigerians currently residing in Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic outbreak. I am writing you this open letter to bring to your attention the situation of things with the Nigerians living in Wuhan and to seize this opportunity to convey our express desire to be evacuated out of Wuhan. Currently, there are 72 Nigerians trapped in Wuhan, 62 adults, and children among whom are students, workers, and business persons.

Since the outbreak of this virus, 702 people in total have died in Wuhan. It was reported that 86 people died yesterday, Friday, February 07, 2020, and from all the news reports that we monitor daily, its infection rate continues to soar. A city-wide lockdown has been in place since Thursday, January 23, 2020, which implies all residents have to stay indoors.

The mood of we, Nigerians caught up in this situation has been of anxiety which is borne out of the fear of getting infected to running out of essential supplies and utilities or being unable to get medical care for other ailments unrelated to the coronavirus. The mood here is fast turning to frustration, helplessness, and despondency because of our failure to receive diplomatic support to be evacuated. The lock-down has led to a closure of all commercial means (rail, road, and air) to leave the city. The Chinese authorities through its various communications to the foreigner community in the city have asked us to contact our embassies if we choose to leave.

Your Excellency, when this epidemic started to cause widespread panic in the city, officials at the Embassy in Beijing, and the office of the Chairman/CEO of the Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) reached out to our community. Their message to us at that time to encourage us and keep us calm that they and by the extension, the Federal Government was monitoring the situation just as many other countries were doing.

However, as the situation began to worsen, we started to see concrete moves from other countries to evacuate their citizens. We immediately communicated our request to also be evacuated to the embassy. Later, we were asked to write to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. All these we have done and our hopes have been high up that we would be evacuated. To provide some sort of relief for us, fellow Nigerians in other cities in China pooled for us some cash and non-cash support, we also received the personal donation from our lead envoy in China, His Excellency, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda for the sum of twenty thousand yuan. However, Your Excellency, Mr. President, it saddens us that days and weeks have gone past, following several attempts through official channels and unofficial channels (social media) to get a favorable response from authorities responsible for our evacuation, we are yet to receive any concrete response from the government.

I would also like to bring to your attention Mr. President, that, our matter was taken to the House of Representatives, but our lawmakers, probably, out of their ignorance on our travails, laughed and jested over our matter. Eventually, they rejected the bill seeking to demand Nigerians stranded in Wuhan to be evacuated. On that same day, the Egyptian government evacuated its citizens, 350 of them out of Wuhan, three hundred and fifty Mr. President. Upon their arrival in Egypt after a 36 hours direct flight, they were all lodged into a single hotel for a 14-Day observation and quarantine. Do the Egyptian government place more value on the lives of its citizen than the Nigerian government does? Do the Moroccans or the Sudanese or the Algerians who have all evacuated their citizens place more premium on the lives of their citizens than Nigeria does?

I am not unmindful of the fears in minds of average Nigerians that all their compatriots currently residing in China particularly Wuhan may have been infected with the coronavirus and should therefore not be brought back to the country at this time. This feeling is understandable but it is based on ignorance. When we had the incidence of Ebola in Nigeria, it did not imply that everyone in the country had been automatically infected with Ebola. For the records Your Excellency, Mr. President, there is no record or case of any Nigerian infected with the virus. However, I fear this clean record may not linger long if the infection rate of this virus continues to soar. It is not our responsibility to allay the fears of our compatriots back home but it is our right to cry out and seek help from our government when we find ourselves in situations as precarious as this.

I hope Mr. President that now that you have read directly from a source in the thick of things, you will use the power of your good office to give the directive for our evacuation.

Thank you, Your Excellency, Mr. President

Yours Sincerely

Ayodeji Adetunji Idowu (Ph.D.)

A Nigerian citizen resident in Wuhan, China

Because trolling was getting too much on their topics, thats why they implemented the Islamic Oath. You have to admit that some of what people write on their threads is totally insane.

Anyway, Christians are not as sensitive as Muslims when it comes to blasphemy which is why we dont need any stupid swear on our topic

Imagine wanting to comment on Sunday and being blocked by "I believe in the Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God"

Wouldnt that be very stupid When people write nonsense about Jesus, it only gives others the grounds to counter them and show that theyre wrong.

Remember that Nairaland is only a microcosm of what is happening in the real world.

People make satirical cartoons about Jesus and nobody cares. Do the same about Mohammad saww and somebody in another country may even be sliced into pieces for your sake.

Am yet to know your stand..
because am seeing that you already sold yourself to Islam already by the oath

But I dont think we need any special section. Anybody should be free to comment on a Christian topic
And not everybody is free to comment on Muslim topics right?

Your thread was about us,by that you invited me here
And given that you're saying this on a Friday after I've just seen you guys make our Islamic threads unapproachable made your thread even more annoying(I wouldn't haved even commented)
Moreover,I'm the most extreme example of your Muslim "bigot"- my types are very rare amongst Muslims smiley.I can bet I'm the only one of my kind on nairaland, and still I rarely ever enter your threads unless,of course, you involve Islam.
Maybe you're confusing nairaland atheists and your fellow xtians as Muslims.

I have nothing more to tell you.... this screenshot says it all about you..

Which Muslim enters your thread?
Go and check the Muslim threads and see the sort of venomous hatred being spewed by you fools
The restriction is meant to reduce the number of xtian demons gaining entrance.

You are exactly one of the Muslims I am referring to that enter Christian thread anyhow.. can you see yourself now displaying the same stupidity I was complaining about in this thread..
You people can’t change.

Religion / Nairaland Moderators Are Been Biased Against Christians by effissyman(m): 11:29am On Feb 07, 2020
I have been on Nairaland for years now and I must say it is indeed a good community.
But something is not really right in this Religion sector which I know it was intentionally done by the Moderators.
What I observed was that in the religion sector Muslims have their own separate section which is tagged “Islam for Muslims “ and the funniest thing is that you cannot comment on any thread in the section without you taking an oath of you surrendering to the Muslim faith ,which means a non Muslim cannot have access to comment there anyhow.
Unlike Christians.. we see Muslims going into series of Christian thread to comment rubbish against the Christian faith and secondly No special section for Christianity is been created so that it can only be accessible by Christians alone to avoid issues with the extremists Muslims in the comment section.
This is very obvious that the Moderator are Muslims and thereby placing Islam over other religions in this sector.
This is absolutely wrong.. treat everyone equal.. This is too bias

Politics / Coronavirus: Chinese Embassy Have Not Stopped Issuing Visas To Nigerians by effissyman(m): 5:33pm On Feb 04, 2020
The Embassy of China has said that it has not suspended visa issuance to Nigerians.

The Press Officer, Embassy of China, Sun Saixiong, explained on Tuesday that the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Zhou Pingjian, only advised those who wished to travel to China “not to be in a rush if the trip was not urgent.”

The diplomat said the government had reached out to about 60 Nigerians living in Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak.

Giving an update on the epidemic in Abuja on Monday, Pingjian had disclosed that China had found a cure for the epidemic, adding that 475 persons had been discharged from the hospital after recovery.

He also said that the Coronavirus infection had risen to 17,205 from 14,380 confirmed cases while 361 persons had died from the disease which originated from Wuhan in China.

About 21,558 individuals were also suspected of being infected with the virus in the Chinese mainland.

He revealed that Chinese scientists are working to develop a vaccine for the virus which the World Health Organisation had declared as an international public health emergency.

According to him, scientists have assured that the epidemic would lose its momentum in the next two weeks.

The envoy said, “As of 7am Abuja time today (Monday), the total number of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection climbed to 17,205 and 21,558 people were suspected of being infected with the virus in the Chinese mainland, according to China’s National Health Commission.”

“A total of 361 people had died, 475 people had been discharged from hospital after recovery. These are not numbers, these are lives, families, communities. This is going to be an unforgettable Spring Festival for the Chinese as families are separated but united to stand together in the face of the disease “he said”

Pingjian stated that the Chinese Premier, Xi Jinping had repeatedly given important instructions on prevention and control work and personally held a meeting on redeployment and remobilization.

The ambassador said China was willing to work with other countries, including Nigeria, to respond to the epidemic effectively.

“We have informed the World Health Organisation, relevant countries and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan about the latest epidemic situation, and have shared information on virus gene sequences with all parties at the first time,” Pingjian pointed out.

He stated that there was no need for restriction of international travel and trade over the disease, adding that under the current circumstances, “solidarity is what the world needs.”
