Mamman Daura is Buhari's nephew who had been retired from the DSS years ago but Buhari brought him back against civil service rules. He should be about 70 years or more and is a staunch Buhari loyalist. The chances that he will be planning with Saraki to make him popular is very slim. |

http://www.freshpointnews.com/12-facts-you-need-to-know-about-the-titanic/ The Titanic was a British passenger liner that set sail on April 10, 1912 on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. It had an estimated 2224 people on board including passengers and crew, and on April 15, 1912 it sunk killing an estimated 1500 after colliding with an iceberg. Below are some of the things that stood the Titanic in a class of its own. 1)The Titanic was the largest ship afloat during its time and also the most luxurious with its first class accommodation designed to be the pinnacle of luxury and comfort. It had on board a gym, libraries, swimming pool, high class restaurants , luxury cabins, squash court and massage rooms. 2)The Ship had advanced safety features such as watertight compartments and remotely activated watertight doors. 3)It cost 1.5 million Pounds at the time it was ordered in 1908 with a 2015 estimated value of 300 Million Pounds. 4)The Ocean Liner carried some of the wealthiest people in the world and also had thousands of artifacts on board, of which some have been recovered and displayed at museums around the world. 5)It is the second largest Ocean Liner wreck in the world, with the largest being sister vessel HMHS Brittanic. 6)The Titanic had 10 decks excluding the top of the officers’ quarters. 7)There were 3 main engines and 29 boilers. http://www.freshpointnews.com/2017/07/26/efcc-recovers-n329bn-from-9-oil-firms/ The Kano Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has recovered a total sum of N328,988,296,990.62 from nine major oil marketers across the country. The nine major oil firms include NNPC retails, Conoil Plc, Total Plc, OVH Energy Plc, Oando Plc, Forte Oil and Gas Plc, Mobil Plc, MRS Oil Plc, and NIPCO Oil Plc . The recovered amount is for products collected from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and its subsidiary, Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, without payments as at when due. The EFCC achieved such feat by acting on a petition accusing officials of the NNPC and PPMC of conniving with major oil marketers to divert the sum of N40 billion belonging to government. In a Statement made available to Vanguard, the EFCC said it referred the petition to a special task force which swung into action uncovering that the oil marketers were actually indebted to the federal government to the tune of N91,519,485,204.44 between 2010 and 2016. “Further investigation into the allegation also revealed that the oil marketers had continued to obtain petroleum products from the government without proper payment in violation of the NNPC/PPMC credit facility regulations. “The probe of the firms led to the discovery of N258,928,926,351.93 being the amount they held back from the oil corporation. “Following the latter discovery, the total amount of debt which was due the government oil agency stands at N349,818,411,556.37. “Upon the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, officials of NNPC/PPMC and all the managing directors of the concerned companies which are NNPC retails, Conoil Plc, Total Plc, OVH Energy Plc, Oando Plc, Forte Oil and Gas Plc, Mobil Plc, MRS Oil Plc, and NIPCO Oil Plc were invited to the Kano Zonal Office of the Commission where their statements were recorded following which the recovery process commenced. “So far, a sum of N328,988,296,990.62 has been recovered from the major oil marketers. “The outstanding debt now stands at N20,765,919,869.48,” EFCC said.

http://www.freshpointnews.com/2017/06/20/start-from-wherever-you-are-with-whatever-you-have/ “Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out.” —John Wooden You cannot control what will happen to you if you decide to take a walk; whether you will be hit by a car, beaten up or robbed; but you can control your reaction. Your reaction could be, never to take a walk again, even if it was important you do so, or continue to walk but being careful to avoid re-occurrence of those unpleasant experiences.

A quote largely attributed to Abraham Lincoln goes thus: “If I had four hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend the first two hours sharpening the axe”. To create enduring wealth, you need to first learn before you can to earn. Funny how this adds up, because if you remove “L” from Learn, it turns to Earn. Knowledge and wisdom is extremely important and it’s the distinctive factor between success and failure in any venture. Wisdom is a quality that comes from having knowledge and experience. There is no quick fix formula for building wealth as most people who hit it big suddenly, squander it and end up becoming broke and worse off. More than seventy percent of big lottery winners end up bankrupt. Just imagine a 20 storey building that had to be constructed in one week, would you want to live in such a house? Can such a house withstand the weight of such a heavy structure and not collapse? My personal experience in business without adequate knowledge was so disastrous that it almost destroyed me. I lost so much money not because the business wasn’t a good one but more because I didn’t understand how to extract value from the business. It took me three years before I could finally turn the table around in this particular venture. The losses would have been minimized if I had taken out time to understudy the business or sought out a good mentor to guide me. Wealth come from creating value, and to create value you have to understand a business, its key success factors in a business, its markets and customers. You have to gain “Tacit knowledge” or firm specific knowledge in that line or area of business. Tacit knowledge is the kind of knowledge that is difficult to transfer to another person by means of writing it down or verbalising it. Tacit knowledge is acquired largely through association with other people and requires joint or shared activities to be imparted from one to another. In business, a core part of apprenticeships is the transfer of tacit knowledge between an expert and an apprentice. Mentoring also involves the transfer of tacit knowledge.

http://www.freshpointnews.com/2017/07/26/customs-intercept-140-smuggled-snakes-spiders-millipedes/ The Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday intercepted three consignments containing 140 species of snakes and 660 other animals imported into Nigeria from Cameroon. The containers were brought in aboard a Cameroonian vessel tagged ‘MV Flesh’ through the Calabar waterway to the National Inland Waterways Authority jetty in Calabar, Cross River State. The other animals which were identified as geckos, millipedes, hairy frogs and spiders, were said to be worth N6.9m. Customs Area Comptroller in charge of Calabar Free Trade Zone, Cross River and Akwa Ibom Command, Mrs. Nanbyen Burromvyat, said the consignments were intercepted by vigilant officers on July 24 on arrival at the NIWA jetty. She said that the consignments, which were Lagos-bound, are prohibited items under the Schedule 3 of the Revised Import Prohibition List (Trade) in the Common External Tariff. A packaging list for the items made available to our correspondent specifically identified the species of snakes to include Atheris squamigera, Bitis gobanica, Dasypeltis ssp, Boiga pulverinata, among others, while the geckos were Hemidactylus frenatus and Hemidactylus fasciatus. The millipede, hairy frogs and spiders were of the Architreptulus ssp, Trichobatrachus robustus and Arachnidae ssp species respectively. Without opening the containers for possible fear of escape, Burromvyat immediately handed over the items and the two suspects arrested to authorities of the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services for further investigations. She said, “These containers have animals of different sizes. They were brought in on July 24, 2017, through this Calabar waterway. The consignment was spotted by our vigilant officers and they contain live animals which are a prohibition under Schedule 3 of our revised import prohibition list. “Live animals are a prohibition. There is no provision for permit to bring them in. We are seizing them and hand the containers over to the Nigerian Quarantine Services for further necessary action. “I do not know what they want to do with it but I think that it will be dangerous for us because it contains snake, spider, geckos and other creatures. We have enough snakes around Nigeria already and it will be suspicious importing this. I do not know what to think because I do not know what they can be used for.” The officer in charge of the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services in Cross River State, Mr. Sunday Ukut, who received the items, said the animals would be properly scrutinised after which they might be destroyed. He said, “I appreciate the joint effort of seizing these live animals and now that we are in receipt of it, we will take it the office and conduct further investigations. These animals came in without the necessary import papers and these are highly prohibited animals. So, we are going to carry out our own screening on them and possibly destroy them in the long run. They came in from Cameroon.” The arrested agent who brought in the consignment from Cameroon, Mr. Julius Novigana, said they were given to him by a friend to deliver to someone in Lagos. The Cameroonian agent claimed that he did not know what was in the three containers, adding that his friend only asked him to deliver the consignments to an unidentified person in Lagos. “A friend gave it to me in Cameroon to deliver to someone in Lagos. I only have the man’s number in Lagos. I have called him and he said he would send someone to come and pick it up from me here in Calabar. I did not know what was contained in the big cartons; my assignment was to deliver the consignment. I do not know the names of the person in Lagos,” he said. Meanwhile, Captain of the vessel that brought the consignment, Victor Agbor, also a Cameroonian, said he did not spot the containers when he was about leaving his country. “I did not see these containers on the vessel when I left Cameroon. The name of my vessel is MV Flesh and we bring in passengers and general cargo from Cameroon to Nigeria. I never saw this container on board before leaving; they only called my attention to it that there were some containers without manifestoes in the vessel. I do not have any idea about it,” he said. Source: http://www.freshpointnews.com/2017/07/11/hope-brightens-for-gonorrhoea-vaccine/ There is hope that in the nearest future a vaccine for Gonorrhoea will be available for use as for the first time, a vaccine has tested positive as some form of protection against the dreaded disease. Scientists in New Zealand who carried out the study, published in the lancet, with 15,000 young people said that results showed infections cut by about a third. Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Many people have no symptoms. Men may have burning with urination, discharge from the penis, or testicular pain The news of a possible vaccine is really comforting following a recent publication by the World Health Organisation, WHO, that the infection was fast becoming resistant to available antibiotics. WHO expressed worry as many developing countries have reported that their last resorts no longer worked against the bacteria. “These cases may just be the tip of the iceberg since systems to diagnose and report untreatable infections are lacking in lower-income countries where gonorrhoea is actually more common,” WHO expert, Teodora Wi, said in Geneva. With over 78 million people affected every year, WHO says that a vaccine might be the last solution to combating the bacteria since antibiotics had failed. Scientists say that the human body unlike in other infections, does not build resistance no matter how many times a person is infected. According to BBC, the vaccine, originally developed to stop an outbreak of meningitis B, was given to about a million adolescents in New Zealand between 2004 and 2006. Researchers at the University of Auckland analysed data from sexual health clinics and found gonorrhoea cases had fallen 31% in those vaccinated. The bacterium that causes meningitis, Neisseria meningitidis, is a very close relative of the species that causes gonorrhoea – Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It appears the Men B jab was giving “cross-protection” against gonorrhoea. Dr Helen Petousis-Harris, one of the researchers, said: “This is the first time a vaccine has shown any protection against gonorrhoea. “At the moment, the mechanism behind this immune response is unknown, but our findings could inform future vaccine development.” Protection seemed to last about two years.

Source: http://www.freshpointnews.com/2017/07/11/etisalat-nigeria-to-continue-operations-may-retain-brand-name/ Following the exit of Etisalat Group from Nigeria and its directive to Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services Limited(EMTS), trading as Etisalat Nigeria, to effect a change of brand name within three weeks, indications have emerged that EMTS is working round the clock to ensure that its operations are not affected in the event of a name change. Mr Ibrahim Dikko, Vice President, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, EMTS, in a statement informed customers that a change of brand name will not affect its operations. According to Dikko, there was a possibility of still using the Etisalat brand name as EMTS had a valid and subsisting agreement with the Etisalat group to use the Etisalat brand notwithstanding the recent changes within the company. “Indeed, discussions are ongoing between EMTS and Etisalat Group pertaining to the continued use of the brand. “EMTS will issue a formal statement once discussions are concluded. “The final outcome on the use of the brand in no way affects the operations of the business as our full range of services remain available to our customers,’’ he said. Dikko said that EMTS launched in Nigeria in 2008 with “0809ja’’ to affirm the “Nigerianness’’ of its origin and sphere of influence. He said that in nine years of operation, the company remained a prime driver and avid supporter of the Nigerian spirit of excellence. According to him, the telecommunications company will continue to stay true to its “Naijacentric identity’’. “This notion is strongly reflected in our core messages and depicted in major projects and initiatives, which we have been known to support. “All these initiatives have their foundation embedded in supporting key aspects of the Nigerian fabric: building Nigerian businesses and empowering Nigerians with a focus on the youth. “Nigeria remains the soul of EMTS’ business and we have made the brand alluring to our teeming subscribers, who see a piece of the spirit and character of Nigeria in everything we do. “EMTS is here to stay and we wish to assure our esteemed customers that our core values of youthfulness, customer-centricity and innovation will remain the pillars on which we operate. “We thank our esteemed customers for their abiding faith in us,’’ Dikko said. Etisalat Nigeria has been battling a $1.2 billion debt crises with a consortium of 13 banks since March, leading to the withdrawal of Etisalat Group, the parent company of Etisalat Nigeria from Nigeria and the three weeks ultimatum for the Nigerian arm to cease the usage of its brand name.

Source: http://www.freshpointnews.com/2017/06/30/same-sex-marriage-now-legal-in-germany/ The German parliament has passed a new law legalizing same sex marriage, under an amendment tagged “Marriage for all”. Under the new law, gay couples have been granted full rights, including rights to adopt children. The bill was passed by the Upper and Lower houses, though the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel Voted against it. “For me, marriage in German law is marriage between a man and a woman and that is why I did not vote in favour of this bill today.” “I hope that the vote today not only promotes respect between different opinions but also brings more social cohesion and peace,” she told reporters.
