I don't think we should look up to NLC to take up this challenge after the subsidy issue is addressed because it won't. We need to start looking elsewhere. Hello leaders, where u @? |
January 13, 2012 8 Comments A member of the House of Representatives from Dawakin Tofa Constituency in Kano State, Mustapha Dawaki, on Friday said the National Assembly would reduce the 2012 budget. He also said the National Assembly had asked the Federal Government to remove some items from the 2012 budget. Dawaki, who spoke in an interview on Channels Television, said the National Assembly had cut off 60 per cent from the emoluments of federal lawmakers, noting that it was determined to cut waste in the system. Dawaki, who is of the Peoples Democratic Party, stated that there were some items in the budget which lawmakers found strange and asked the Presidency to delete from the budget proposal. He debunked assertions that members of the National Assembly were earning millions of naira as salaries monthly, noting that the entire package was not more than N435,000. He called for a quick resolution of the logjam over the withdrawal of subsidy on petroleum products in the interest of the nation. http://www.punchng.com/news/nass-will-cut-2012-budget-lawmaker/ |

It's an irreversible reaction. Divided we stand, United we fall. We need the SNC like yesterday. Every extra day that goes by is more catalyst for this unpleasant reaction. |
Every region has more than enough resources. We just need to look inwards and get to work. |
SNC! SNC!! SNC!!! That sums it all. |
The new EFCC chairman can actually use this opportunity to showcase his abilities. Let's start with all the rot in NNPC. |
Well spoken. I hope we don't lose focus after the strike has been called off. |
Possibly. There are very many shrewd strategists inside that rock called Aso rock. Anything is possible. |
Action! Action!! Action!!! Let's see d results and I'll be ready pop somtin then. |
This sounds more like it and not asking a helicopter to crash! |
CPC should continue with El Rufai but they need to do away with Bakare completely. |
Sounds good. Oya let's see action. |
El-Rufai is my man but truth be told, this is a good example of the insincerity behind most of those leading the protests. If they were in the President's shoes, they would do same or even worse. I would move remove subsidy completely if I were in the president's shoes but with a slightly different approach (I.e. high level awareness campaign prior to implementation). |
Subsidy on petroleum products is a form of injustice to the oil producing states. It's like getting slapped on both cheeks. We must end it asap. |
Both. AIT tries to balance both sides but may be a lil bit skewed towards govt. |
One word: Perambulation! |
When an agreement is reached bw FG and labor, you will be strictly on your own if you engage in any other protests. If you have grievances, settle with NLC or forever remain silent. |
He makes a lot of sense even if it is not that easy to implement. The question everyone should ask is "When is it ever the right time to correct decades of wrong?" Another route FG could have taken was to have say 6 months of heated debates, engagements, etc (Similar to what is done in an election campaign) prior to implementation of the policy. That way, people would have been more aware. FG failed in management of change for such policy. |
^ That would be a very rowdy meeting. The ideal thing is for NLC / TUC to have engaged all the others and come up with a position b4 meeting FG. |
BTW, I also don't believe the story until it's proven to be true. |
@eGuerrilla, the economic sense of the idea can be debated. But the questions are: Can she afford it? Did she really buy it? Consider this: Why would a world bank executive of her calibre leave her job to take on the Minister of Finance role in one of the most notorious/ corrupt nations on earth? The motive is debatable but can she and did she do it? YES! |
Case closed. COURT! |
@tpia@, 1.2 billion naira is less than 8 million dollars. Chicken feed for someone like her. ![]() |
@hercules, I'm not referring to her salary. I'm looking at possible investments for a person of her status. |
With a business that returns N500,000 daily, it will take less than 7 years for her to make that money. Is someone saying it's impossible for her to have a number of investments that give her close to half a million naira daily? |
Poverty truly is a stumbling block in the way of possibilities. That there are people who still think a human cannot own N1.2 billion legitimately gives me cause for concern. |
Hope you know that N1.2 billion naira is equal to 120 plots of land in lekki @10 million naira each? Land in lekki as at a few decades back was worth only a few tens of thousands of naira. Someone who bought 120 plots of land at say N100,000 per plot would have invested only N12 million naira to buy then. It's all about information. Do you know you can make up to 200% profit on an investment in the stock market in a few days? Same with forex, etc. Knowledge is power! |
If you think 1.2 billion naira is unattainable, then you have not discovered the value of education. For someone of her status, she will not depend on salary alone except she is dumb. I as a salary earner have several investments that fetch me over 2 times my annual salary yearly. If you have access to the kind of info she has, you will be able to make that amount of money without much too much sweat. |
I believe pple are just out to pull her down because she is pulling at the strings that keeps their income flowing. Let the facts be presented. |
Can someone explain something to me? If she actually bought this property with her own legit money, will it be a crime? Or are we saying she cannot possibly have access to such amount of money legitimately? |
It's a first step. At least it has been mentioned on the floor of the house. What needs to be done now is the "underground" work of lobbying etc. Next time it gets a mention, results may be different. The journey of a thousand miles begins with 1 step. |
