Can anyone help me out here? Do most people have internet access via GPRS in their phones? Or is it only for big boys? |
Please guys can someone help. I am looking for the cheapest way to import vegetables from nigeria to the UK. I have used DHL in the past to import some other items and the cost is so high. They charged me about 16K just to send an SD card. My friend in nigeria wants us to try a courior. I don't know how it works or what their price may be. Can anyone give me a guess of how much it will cost to send a 10 kilo vegetable from nigeria to UK? |
Don't know why the fuse here because the yoruba speaking people in edo and delta state is not up to 3% of those states. There are more niger delta people in yoruba states aka ijaw ilaje than yoruba speaking people inh niger delta. |
Its only a matter of time before planes in nigeria start coming down or flying into buildings. I see it coming. |
It is probably true that the US are going to meet IBB but i think we and the writer are reading too much into it. I don't believe they want to encourage him to run for election. shoot2kill You are taking panadol for another man's headache. The US has started the ball rolling with their long tern plan about Nigeria and the west African region. Its more about the Niger delta and their oil. They want to remove the Niger delta from Nigeria or at worse make it a protected territory. The bad news is that in the last 40 years Nigeria have treated the Niger deltans and the area like sh""t. Hence the region is in support of the US plans. So please don't break you vein. Its a battle you and your other patriots have already lost because the people who matters (Niger delta) are in support of the US plans because they will get a better deal. MEND have been calling the US to come. Even IBB have said something of the line of Nigeria being better off being a confederation or something similar. Its either there is full regional autonomy or the Niger delta is out. |
SeXyBoNE:Do you know its in the constitution that past governors are given jeeps? Do you know that he obeyed the constitution and gave it to all past governors and not just Ogbemudia? Do you also know he would be disobeying the law if he refuse to give them the jeep? There you go. Its good to educate oneself in the subject matter so you don't get caught up in the wind of propaganda. |
sleek_p:Sleek Just a point of correction. Osunbor's time is very long compared to what Oshiomole have spent so don't call it little. Osunbor spent two years and technically Oshiomole have spent about 7 months because the budget was only passed in April. Besides, if two people start building their houses at the same time and one is doing a solid foundation while the other is not. The one without foundation will seem to progress quicker because he didn't need to dig down first to build the foundation before building up. Oshiomole seem to start slowly to some because his government is doing things the right way. I am not knocking Osunbor but he was building roads when the existing drainage was blocked. He was building new roads without drainage and sidewalk. That is like building a house without a foundation. No wonder nearly all the roads he build are almost washed away. Oshiomole government is making sure there is proper design of all the roads and they will include side walk and drainage. Osunbor did some things i have to commend, especially the solar traffic lights he introduced to the city which the present government is expanding. |
meexteriox:You are right that we should support him. That is what people in edo state are currently doing. People who were affected by the removing of illegal structures are in full agreement. A friend of mine who has a business in benin city was so excited to pay his tax. He was explaining to me that it is necessary to pay the tax so that they can get good roads. He was telling me how the roads are now clear of traders and touts. etc. With the little this government has done so far, people can see that it means business. People can see that money is not being stolen. I was pleasantly shocked to see the amount of information in the state website. Everything the government is doing is being done in the open. everything is in the website. Before contracts are awards, they are published. Who won the bid and how much it cost. Everything is done in the open. Oshiomole even regularly attend town hall meetings where the common man can ask him any question. The place is always jam packed. I believe in critiscism and am happy that some people are critical of the government, but its obvious some people are just upset that Osunbor was removed or that PDP was removed hence they start all kind of destructive criticism. But its all well, its still better than no criticism at all. How can anyone expect rome to be built in five months. PDP made sure the budget was not passed for six months. It was only passed in the middle of April. Its when the raining season was about to start thats when they passed the budget. We all know no serious construction work can be done in the raining season. WHY DO SOME EDO PEOPLE PLAY POLITICS WITH EDO DEVELOPMENT? |
This man has done remarkably well so far. We couldn't have hoped for any better. He has been laying solid foundation in his first year. Its towards the end of the second year that people will start to appreciate the work he has done. By then all the road construction in the 2009 and 2010 budget would have been completed. What has impressed me this year are policies like disilting of the drains which has help to solve the problem of flooding, removing of illegal structures which has brought out the beauty of the streets, banning extortion, creating the YES jobs, biometric drive which will solve the problem of ghost workers once and for all, IGR drive which has already increased five fold etc. Even at this early stages we have started to see a lot of success. People in benin are saying it normally take them more than an hour to drive through the city but now it takes 30 minutes because the traffic is clear. Other people have obsereved that flooding was greatly reduced this year because of the drains where cleared. But what has really impressed me the most is the policy of building all roads with drainage, walkways and streetlight. I cannot believe we have been running this state without these basic policies in place. Edo state was a big jungle before but now the tranformation has started. We want solid durable development, not quick jack ones that are here today and gone tomorrow. It is funny that so called development has been going on in edo state without the mapping if the state. No wonder roads that are build this year are washed off within a year. this is a basic and common knowledge among civil engineers. Am happy that this government is mapping the whole state. This is what i call solid foundations. |
I have been hearing of this master plan but there seem to be a lack of information on what it entails. Has anyone seen it? Is there anywhere on the internet where it can be viewed? |
Believe this and you will believe anything. America are not going to risk the lives of their soldiers in another senseless war they know they cannot win. The US know that no amount of military force can stop the attacks on oil installations in the niger delta terrain. Have people noticed that of recent there have been scare mongering reports of how the Nigeria army will launch new attacks on MEND if they end their ceasefire? The whole world know that there is no military solution.Nigeria realised that during the last assault by the army. The amnesty is the last dice that is why the government have been throwing money at it. If the nigeria army is sent in again, it will be to destroy villages and kill innocent niger deltans as usual. They don't have the capacity to flush out the militants. |
;d ;d |
As usual nigerians just love to tackle the symptoms instead of finding the root cause of problems. Player P, how about giving thr teeming youths jobs? An idle mind is the devils workshop. |
wablux:Sorry I just have o point this out. This is one of the major problems of the nigerian mentality. We put too much regard on individual. We have developed a culture of individualism instead of trying to build structures and system that can outlive an individual. That is why some nigerians continue to wait for that one man that will have all the answers to our problems. |
George_D:I believe you should direct your sermon on those in government because they are fanning the embers of war. There is so much human can take before they fight back and don't care if they die. |
Breaking up will decentralize power into the various part. That is what is important (complete devolution of power) This complete devolution of power can be achieved by breaking up but it can also be achieved within the context of a one nigeria. I would rather we breakup than to continue in this system of centralization. If the regions and nations have complete devolution of power through a breakup or otherwise, we will have more than one attempt to to get things right. 1, Having more than one attempt to get things right. We currently practice a unitary system of government hence everything is being controlled from the center. The problem with that is if the center gets things wrong, everyone suffers. But if there is complete devolution of power, a failure at the center won't have a complete adverse effect all over he country. For example, if we have regional devolution of power, if the east mess up their power generation as nigeria is currently messed up, maybe the western region will get it right. In no time the eastern people will begin to learn how the western region did it. Nobody will want to be left behind. 2, Devolution of power promotes healthy competition among the various. For example when we use to operate this devolution of power within the context of one Nigeria, Awolowo introduced free education. It was working wonders and other regions started to copy it. Every region was looking for we to copy the good things of other regions and better other regions. 3, It localize decision making hence a region or a people will not blame other regions or people for their problems. This will really help the current level of ethnic and regional suspicion as is currently is. Something which is very detrimental to nation building. Right now we put an Igbo man in charge of yoruba agriculture controlling everything from abuja. If something goes wrong, the yorubas will surely blame the Igbos and see it as a plan against the yoruba people. We need to removes the system that breeds ethnic suspicion among us. 4, It will make the various part begin to look inward and find means to produce wealth to run the region. Right now, the system does not give any incentive to be creative, competitive or innovative since whatever happens, they will get a handout from the central government at the end of every month. 5, It makes the people know the criminals holding them hostage and stealing their money. The people will know these criminals because they live among them and they will also know how to deal with them. There will be more accountability because of this. 6, It will make the different nation within nigeria to progress according to their own pace. Right now, Nigeria is like a vehicle that the two front wheels are programmed to move left while the two back wheels are programmed to move right. No wonder we have not progressed since we start this unitary form of government. The component parts of our nation are at each other throat. 7, Devolution of power from breaki9ng up or otherwise will solve the niger delta problem completely. 8, It will help a lot in the area of security when local security outfit that know the area and people begin to operate. The annoying possibility of criminals getting away with murder because they know one big guy in abuja will be a thing of the past. 9, It will help promote mutual respect among the various regions. 10, We need to learn from our history. There have been many empires in africa and in Nigeria. I remember reading about the benin empire that spread all over nigeria and even to Ghana. The secrete of these empires being so large was that they gave each people and nations withing these empire complete devolution of power. The only way they interfered in the lives of these various people is to collect tax and to call upon them to provide fighters when the empire was attacked. The center never interfered in the agriculture, education, trade and total development of the nations within the empire. That was why they were so successful and lasted a long time. seems our forefathers were a lot wiser than us. |
What all the squibble over 200 militants when there are more than 40,000 of them still at large. By the way, this just shows that the government are only deceiving themselves hence these militants just want to grab anything the government is offering and then go back to what they do best. This also shows that the militants were not foolish enough to submit their weapons. |
Soyinka is solidly behind MEND. |
So OPC wants to start arming themselves too. ![]() |
Fhemmmy:Its funny the way you want to generalize all the militants as people who are fighting for money when we know most of them (MEND) have rejected the whole amnesty bribing offer. Why didn't you generelize towards the majority of the militants who have rejected these bribes? Could it be because that won't fit into the already bias assumptions you already have? |
People are barking at the wrong tree here. Don't blame Oshiomole. Blame the nigerian constitution that require ex governors to be given three cars. The system we practice is so parasitic on the masses, it unbelievable the masses continue to wallow in ignorance. |
We may not know where the arms came from but it sure didn't come from boyloaf. MEND took over boyloaf camp and weapons shortly after he said he like to surrender. A new militant leader have taken over the camp and the fighters. That is why is not surprising that many militant fighters didn't come and join boyloaf in the amnesty offer. |
Ibime:Ibimi You don't need to wait before you should know the answer. Boyloaf is just one man. MEND took over boyloaf camp and weapons as soon as he showed any sign of defection. That is why MEND are so sure those weapons submitted are not from boyloaf. There are hundreds of other militant camps in the niger delta of which boyloaf's camp was just one. It is so funny the way the media are trying to hype boyloaf into what he is not. He was a former cook in Tompolo's camp. from there he went and join Dagogo's camp. From there he went and form his own camp in 2007. How the media came to the conclusion that boyloaf is second in command in MEND is anyone's guess. Even his boss, tompolo and Dagogo are not second in command. |
Neptunz:Neptunz The bolded part below is an excerp from the a latest article about MEND. About eight months ago, MEND mentioned this hitting a target without going there physically. It seems they are now ready to put it into practice. On whether MEND still has weapons and fighters to carry out its threat to resume attack on oil facilities at the expiration of its ceasefire on September 15, Gbomo stated: “We have thousands of fighters who are battle-ready. That number is even too much for the type of tactics we will be using for the new phase. “Mr (Timi) Alaibe is talking about a time for intellectual militancy and this we understand as destroying a target with an unmanned drone as against going there physically. It is this new and exciting phase where brains as against power will be used. As for weapons and bombs, we have enough to continue after the ceasefire. |
asha 80:Not really, i follow their press release closely and read a lot in between the lines. MEND have been talking about a new phase of the struggle which they call intellectual militancy. they are saying they'll need less fighters for this phase. And that they don't need to send people to a target before they can bomb it. They first mentioned it some months ago, now they are harping on it again. If you know what they mean, its very scary. It seems they have acquired long range missiles and can hit any oil and gas installation from miles away. Knowing how stiff neck our leaders are, I think we should start preparing for a time when nigeria oil and gas export will be down to zero. |
Ears close to the ground have heard that MEND are in verge of something very major. Nigeria have no chance. Trying to defend the oil installations will be futile. |
My people, if someone puts honey right into your mouth. Will you not chop? Don't blame the militants. This is free money to them. Blame the person who is dishing out the money. Besides, anyone that like to ignore all the blatant bribes and corruption involved in this amnesty and hoping the amnesty will work, is part of the problem of Nigeria and the niger delta. |
Does this nanny really exist? |
Neptunz:Pardon me, how did you know this for a fact? I mean the 4 billa in Tompolo's account. Besides, if its true, the money obviously came from the government. Just as they (government ) are currently bribibng a lot of militants. |
People from the outside looking in do not see yorubas or Igbos. They see nigerians and they can't tell the difference between each ethnic group. |
morpheus24:We are forcing ourselves using the military. Mind you, I believe in one nigeria but not without justice, self determination of the regions and complete devolution of power. |
morpheus24:Most of them still speak the same or very similar language. But like i said earlier that is not the point. England, scotland and wales have a definite contract of operation and interaction thats why there is peace. Even when some part feel marginalized, the contract was re-negotiated and complete devolution of power was enshrined hence the scottish have their own paliament. Scottish have control and self determination over scottish affairs. Unlike nigeria that and Igbo man will be put over the agriculture of the hausa. It breeds nepotism. |
