Is this Nigeria? https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs115.snc4/36117_440477450521_776130521_5817526_1057817_n.jpg |
If what is written in the article is exactly what he said on telly, then you are easily impressed. Nigerians are easily impressed. Hear him, "those who benefit from the system should invest in education". How about those who benefit (steal) from the system should return the money back to government. In the bank scandal list, there were so many people with about N100 billion. That money is enough to tar all the roads in a city. But one man steal and sits on it and if you see the road leading towards his house, its in shambles. I expect all the roads in minna to be tarred with street light and drainage at a minimum. And oh yes, to be paid by IBB. Acidosis: |
16 million is enough to feed 1000 people in a month. I mean three square meal a day. |
Is that why you say Nigeria is finished? There are many more important things that happen which have worse consequence than this. I guess people only see what affects them. |
Please can you post them? Becomrich0: |
Do you have satellite pictures to back up this claim? Becomrich0: |
Becomerich. Please can you post a satellite picture of the oil wells in the city which delta state is claiming and those when ondo state is claiming? Becomrich0: |
Akin-Egba:ok. |
The story suggest the yoruba man stabbed the northerner first. |
That money could have been better spent in tarring all the roads of a chosen community. Complete with drainage, street lights and walkways. |
Edo state again? Why are people so interested in this governor? Apart from Fashola of Lagos, Oshiomole is the most talked about governor here. And one thing i have noticed is that he has both strong supporters and strong critics. You hardly see anyone sitting on the fence. |
bigdoo How did you come to that conclusion about hundreds of thousands of people by sampling just two? ![]() |
Whats the doctrine? |
Who exactly is this man? His looks portrays defiance. bawomolo: |
Are those chains in his legs? |
Baro:This is what I have been hearing from people who live there but some others here seem to have a completely different opinion. It is interesting though that most people either claim he is doing a wonderful job or a very bad job. You hardly get opinions in the middle. Every good leader needs a solid dose of constructive criticism and i was hoping to get some here so i can be able to put things into perspectives when next i talk to people who are always praising him, but unfortunately I have got none so far. One man claim the governor is a thief because he increased the tuition fee of a university. But he didn't tell us school fees in all primary and secondary schools in the state have been scrapped. The other man says the governor is bad because there is a very bad road in the state called siluku road. But i doubt that road constitute up to 5% of the roads in the state. Again another guy said the governor is terrible because he has not commisioned many roads or projects. I noticed that the forumer didn't deny many projects are ingoing but his grip is that they have not been commisioned. It seems its hard to get constructive criticism from some of our brothers here. But why I am impressed with the governor is his ability to find funds for development without borrowing. |
EzeUche:I have heard good things about Ameachi too. Can you give us some more details of what he has done? |
xlfemzy:I won't condemn him until i know the details of the increase. If the money is going to be reinvested in the institution, then i think its a good thing. In the UK, the government has increased tuition fee to elevate sustained investment in the long term. I know our people just don't like to pay for anything. Even paying tax na wahala. ![]() |
W Stan017:, It seems a lot of people in edo state have a different view. From what i have read in the paper and what people currently living in edo state told me, he has done very well. And yes you are right, Most of what they say he is doing is tarring roads and i believe that is the first step to develop major cirties in nigeria. |
I think the governor of edo state is right up there with him. I give the edge to edo state governor because he has to first find the money to bring about development, a problem fashola does not have. People in edo state seem to be in shock with the development springing in front of their eyes and the bigger surprise is where the governor got the money from because everyone knows edo state does not have money. Its not surprising these two governors are from AC. Others states needs to learn from this. Some people can easily excuse the wonderful things Fashola is doing in Lagos claiming Lagos state have money. But when you consider what is going on in edo state, a state that does not have money, the difference between PDP and AC is very clear. |
Out of curiosity, how much was Ogun state last budget? |
Currently, we spend about 30% of our income to run the country. That means the salaries and bonus of all our governors, house of assembly member, senate etc is about 30% of nigeria earnings. We have not even talked about money that is directly stolen and those indirectly stolen thgrough inflation of contracts. If the real value is calculated, we will find out that 70% of the nations wealth are going to less that 0.5% of the population. God has blessed nigeria with enough wealth to take care of our large population but because of poor judgment, its all wasting away. |
Can someone confirm this. I have heard from two independent sources that the present government have started to transform benin city. I heard all major roads are being made six lanes or expanded. Is it true? |
nellaluv:I don't think that is the case at all. When i first heard about this thing about six months ago, i was shocked. And its surprising to me that most people have not been talking about it. It seems to be more rampant in some states though. I knew about it when i sent my friend some laptops to sell. He said that benin city is a no go area that once the police spot you with a laptop, you will be arrested instantly. He said Port Harcourt is cool. But i didn't know it happens in lagos too. I guess if you are found with a laptop and you have a car or dress responsibly, you will not be arrested because you don't fit the yahoo boys profile. |
This is the why some people call nigeria a jungle. You asked a very good question. Many people have been arrested while going to work with their laptop just like that. This thing have been going on for a very long time. How can police in a normal society just arrest someone just because they are carrying a laptop? |
Everybody may have their own definition of the term "better". What is priority for me is first security. Nigeria does not have that and Ghana has it. Then there are other things like constant electricity which we all know the obvious. But to a trader, nigeria may be better because of the larger market. So lets not fight over this seeing everyone are likely to have a different opinion depending on where they are coming from. |
A complete breakup or complete devolution of power is the way to go. the north and the south have completely different ideology hence there is always going to be frictions trying to have them yoked together. Separation may not solve of the problems we have in the country but it will make the problems easier to solve when the component parts all have the same ideology. Nation building is about people having the same ideology coming together to form one country or a union. The reason nigeria have not progressed an inch is because at the bottom of the cart, one side is trying to go north while the other side is trying to go south. result is a complete standstill. The north does not believe in western education but the south believes in it. If a northern man is head of education in the country, can you imagine how the south will be affected? thats why we must not be yoked together. What the north feels is good for all is bad for the south. The north wants sharia but the south does not. If the country is lead by a southerner that does not believe in sharia, can you imagine how it will affect the northern populace who believe in sharia? We must not be yoked together. No wonder the north and the south are at each other's throat when it comes to who is in power. both sides want to establish their ideology. They have settled on a parttern of the power rotating between north and south. What that means is that when one side is in power, the other side does not have much progress until they come to power too. Why can we separate or have a loose union so that each nation within nigeria progress at their own pace with the same ideology driving them. |
Thanks ederly. I hope these mobile phones companies move fast and start to introduce flat fee packages that allow people unlimited access to the internet. please do you know if people can get free text messages in some packages? Sorry for asking these question. Am based in the UK |
Can anyone help me out here? Do most people have internet access via GPRS in their phones? Or is it only for big boys? |
