Politics / ₦37.9 Billion Refund To Anambra State: The True Position by ejioforjm(m): 7:21pm On Aug 19, 2018
The true position in respect of the purported refund of ₦37.9 billion to Anambra State by the Federal government for the guidance of the general public.

First, The Federal Government has not released any ₦37.9B to Anambra State Government.

Secondly, many States of the Federation have various Refund Claims for various projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government, particularly on roads. The Federal Government decided to use Promissory Note and Bond Issuance Programme to settle the inherited local debts and other contractual obligations that were verified.

This was sent to the Senate for Verification and Approval. The Senate set up an Ad-hoc Committee to carry out this exercise on the 9th of May, 2018.

The Committee in the same month of May, organised a Public Hearing on the subject and invited the affected states to appear before the Committee with proofs of their claims.

The Anambra State delegation was led by the Deputy Governor – Dr. Nkem Okeke, the Hon. Commissioner for Works – Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor, the Director of Works – Engr. Orjiakor and the MD, Anambra Road Maintenance Agency – Engr. Emeka Okoye.

Senator Victor Umeh's Office at the National Assembly was used as the Secretariat by the Anambra State Delegation.

Senator Victor Umeh accompanied the delegation to the public hearing, wherein the Anambra State Delegation defended satisfactorily the claims by the Anambra State Government for the various refunds.

The claims filed by the Anambra State Government were easily verified by the Ad-Hoc Committee because the delegation came with supporting documents to prove the Debts. This is a clear reflection of Governor Willie Obiano’s sincerity and transparency in the execution of projects.

Consequently, the Senate Ad-hoc Committee affirmed and approved ₦37.9 billion as valid claim by the Anambra State Government. Of all the claims submitted by various states in Nigeria only 21 states scaled through.

On the 24th of July, 2018 the Committee presented its Report and the Senate approved it during Plenary. Total Refund approved was ₦488.7B due to 21 States out of 25 States that submitted Claims.

The Senate having approved this, the Federal Government can now go ahead with the Promissory Note and Bond Issuance Programme to raise the money to settle the Debts.

It is the news of this that has set people struggling to claim credit for what they know nothing about including thanking the President for releasing ₦37.9 Billion to Anambra State which was never done including thanking strangers for facilitating what never was.

Our hope is that the Federal Government will pay this money as quickly as possible because Governor Willie Obiano is in a hurry to execute more projects.

Thanks!

Politics / Senator Victor Umeh To IG Of Police: Leave Anambra State Alone by ejioforjm(m): 8:25am On Mar 15, 2018
“The good people of Anambra State are not comfortable with the recent order to withdraw the small arms in the custody of the vigilante men.

“Today Anambra State is referred as the safest state in Nigeria; before it was notoriously unsafe.

“These Vigilante people have complemented the efforts of the conventional security forces in combating crime.

“It is important while we condemn vigilante in some state; we have to commend the use of vigilante in places where it has worked effectively, like in my own state (Anambra).

“My people want these vigilante services in Anambra State. Indeed if you dispense with vigilante services in Anambra State, the state of insecurity will return and our people are very anxious about it.

“I want to use this opportunity to ask the Inspector-General of Police to leave Anambra State alone. That state is very peaceful, very safe and the safest state in Nigeria.”

Politics / Senator Victor Umeh Is A Trustworthy Politician – Bishop Ezeokafor by ejioforjm(m): 5:13am On Mar 05, 2018
The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor on Sunday described the Senator representing Anambra Central in the Senate, Chief Sir (Dr) Victor Umeh as a consistent and trustworthy politician.

The Prelate made this known at St. Joseph Catholic Church Ekwulobia, during a Holy Mass to mark the flag off of 2018 Awka Diocesan Laity Week.

He recalled that during the campaign for 2015 General Election, Senator Victor Umeh promised to renovate a ‘5-classroom block’ at Loretta Special Science School Adazi-Nnukwu. Though he was not declared the winner of Anambra Central Senatorial Election; Senator Victor Umeh went on to fulfil his campaign promise, unlike many politicians, who will disappear even after emerging victorious.

According to the Bishop: “Senator Victor Umeh has proved to be trustworthy and consistent. He is the kind of politician we need, a man who abide by his words.”

Senator Victor Umeh used the opportunity to thank the Laity for their support and prayers during his strenuous journey to the Senate.

Today, the spirit of Ndi Igbo is awakened! On this day, six years ago, an era ended with the passing of our leader and the founding father of our great party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (Ezegburugburu of Igboland).

The glorious exit of this great Nationalist signalled the dawn of a new era for Ndi Igbo and Nigeria as a nation. Ojukwu's conviction, confidence, strength, character, wisdom and inspirational leadership availed the Igbos a strong identity within the scheme of affairs in our country, Nigeria. He became THE LEADER when we, as a people were in dire need of one; a thundering voice and a breath of life into the overwhelming recognition we enjoy today as Igbos.

As we at ‘AFA IGBO EFUNA’ commemorate the 6th year of The Great Ikemba's passing on to higher glory, nothing hurts more than the actuality that our hero is no longer here with us. However, on account of the fulfilled and noble life he lived, we join hands with Ndi Igbo and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to remember and celebrate an iconic life well lived and a journey through life well travelled.

‘AFA IGBO EFUNA’ remains perpetually grateful for the legacy Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu bequeathed to us, Ndi Igbo, as we stay resolute in ensuring that the labour of our heroes past shall not be in vain.

Continue to rest in peace, Ikemba Nnewi!

Your memory and legacy lives forever in our hearts!

The love is all over. Keke and Okada riders today endorsed the re-election bid of His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano for a second term in office.

This might not be unconnected to the security enjoyed by ndi Anambra. Before now, petty thieves do snatch motorbikes and keke from their owners and drivers, until Gov. Willie came and chased them out of Anambra state..

Also, while other States increased tariffs to adapt to the economic recession, Gov Obiano reduced the levies being paid by the Okada and Keke Operators.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, in Anambra State has endorsed Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State for reelection in forthcoming November 18th governorship election.

The state chairman of the union, Chief Anthony Ugozor made this known, when the Chairman Willie Obiano Re-election Campaign Committee, Chief Sir (Dr) Victor Umeh visited the NUP State Office at Amawbia.

According to Chief Ugozor, the union agreed to endorse Governor Willie Obiano for a second term because of his commitment in making sure that pensioners and workers in the state are paid correctly and promptly, which they value so much.

He commended the governor for fast tracking his four point agenda of development, anchored on mechanised oil and gas, trade and commerce, agriculture and industrialisation; noting that these four pillars have received varying degrees of attention that has made Anambra indigene proud to identify with his administration.

Chief Umeh thanked the union for supporting APGA and endorsing Governor Willie Obiano second term bid. He pleaded with them not to be misguided by inconsistent politicians wandering around the state spreading falsehood about the marvelous performance of Governor Willie Obiano.

He reminded the union that APGA is responsible for the success story of the state, recalling that the motive behind the formation of the APGA by Late Chukwuemeka Ojukwu and his allies was so formidable that the survival of the political party should be a concern to all Ndigbo.

Politics / Don’t Use Anambra Election To Test Your Rigging Strength – Umeh Warns APC by ejioforjm(m): 10:13am On Jul 27, 2017
Former national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Sir (Dr) Victor Umeh has warned that Anambra people will not allow the All Progressives Congress (APC) to use the state as an experiment on whether it can win election in the South-East.

Umeh, who was speaking at the inauguration of Professor Pita Ejiofor’s Annual Frontier Lecture at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, said such attempt had been tried in the past but was resisted.

He said that Anambra people will insist on credible election in which votes would count. He also appealed to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku to advise ad hoc staff, the bulk of which were recruited from his university, to avoid being used by politicians to rig elections.

He said: “Anambra should not be used as a ground for experiment. We have resisted it in the past. We call for credible election where votes will count”.

Umeh while speaking with journalists said: “I talked about ad hoc staff because they are the ones used to rig election.

“So, I call on the university so that those who are selected to work should not rig. I know some who have been used in the past and if I see their names I will protest.

“So, I reminded the VC about the workers who would come from the university for the election and urge that the workers don’t give unearned votes. They should not collaborate in rigging the election”.

I Left APGA because I Want To Be Involved Strongly In Jonathan's Re-election Bid — Obi

⚫After Goodluck Jonathan lost the 2015 General election, the story changed

“Governor Willie Obiano and Victor Umeh on 24th August, 2014, in front of three bishops ask Peter Obi to leave APGA for them" — Valentine Obienyem, June 2015

It is regrettable that Valentine Obienyem nowadays finds joy and entertainment in lying. As the 2017 gubernatorial election is fast approaching, Obienyem is busy recruiting ‘college of lairs' against APGA, Governor Willie Obiano and Victor Umeh.

One reason I believe people lie is to generate some type of end result that is favorable to the liar.

PETER OBI DELIBERATELY LEFT APGA.

Recall: The day Peter Obi presented his stewardship on the 8th of March 2014 at the Women’s Development Centre, Awka, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was there and announced to everybody present that the Federal Government wanted to make use of Obi and that there would be no rest for him.

At Ekwueme Square, when Governor Obiano was inaugurated, the representatives of President Jonathan, Senator Ben Obi announced publicly that Peter Obi was joining the Federal Executive Council.

So with that he had accomplished his project in APGA and it was time for him to move on and when he went for that ministerial appointment, forces in the PDP and the Presidency at that time frustrated him.

That position was given to Osita Chidoka so as he was hanging around, another project was sold to him to come over to PDP and be part of Jonathan’s presidential election so that at the end of the exercise if Jonathan won, he would become a major player in the government of President Jonathan.

If Peter Obi knew in his widest imagination that Goodluck Jonathan will not survive his second term bid; he would have remained in APGA.

Peter Obi miscalculated.

Politics / Anambra State Assembly Tasks INEC On Anambra Central Senatorial Re-run Election by ejioforjm(m): 9:39pm On May 13, 2017
The State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Independent National Electoral Commission to without further delay fix and announce the date for Anambra Central Senatorial District re-run election as ordered by the Court of Appeal.

The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored by the member representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Mr. Chugbo Enwezor and twenty-seven others during plenary in Awka.

Section 1531 of the 1999 constitution as amended empowers the Independent National Electoral Commission to organize, undertake and supervise all elections to the offices of the President, Vice President, the Governor, Deputy Governor of a State, membership of the senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly of each state of the federation.

It is on this basis that Mr. Enwezor sponsored the motion.

Moving the motion, the Lawmaker lamented that the continued refusal, neglect on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission to fix the date and organize the Anambra Central Senatorial re-run election as ordered by the Court of Appeal is undemocratic and clear violation of section forty-eight subsection one fifty three of the 1999 constitution.

On his part, the member representing Anaocha One Constituency, Chief Azubuike Okoye who noted that the people of Anambra Central Senatorial District have lost a lot of democratic dividend that would come to them for the past one year their position has been vacant in the senate urged INEC to obey the court ruling.

In their contributions, the member representing Ogbaru one Constituency, Sir Benson Nwawulu, the member representing Nnewi South One constituency, Mr. Kingsley Iruba and the member for Anambra East Constituency, Mr. Obinna Emeneka added that it is a rape of democracy for a senatorial district to exist without a representative and called on INEC to conduct the re-run for Anambra Central Senatorial District election in the interest of justice.

The Speaker of the House, Barrister Rita Maduagwu described the refusal of INEC to conduct the re-run polls as undemocratic.

Politics / Press Statement: Nkwelle-ezunaka & Oba Government Land by ejioforjm(m): 5:49am On May 10, 2017
A Press Statement Presented By The Managing Director/Superintendent General Of Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade Chief Kenneth Okonkwo.

Good day gentle men of the press. The attention of the Anambra State Government and the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Chief Kenneth Okonkwo have been drawn to a malicious, baseless and unfounded report that has been going viral on the internet in the recent weeks over the activities of OCHA Brigade at Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area and the defunct International Airport Land at Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area.

Ordinarily, Government would have ignored the baseless report, but for record purposes and to ensure that Ndi Anambra are not misled, we deemed it necessary to make the following clarifications:

OCHA Brigade is an Agency set up by the current State Government to ensure that Anambra is Clean and Healthy as well as instil discipline, orderliness in the State and furthermore to facilitate the arrest and prosecution of illegal revenue collectors recovery of state government properties. The creation of the Agency was backed by a Law passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly.

The Management of OCHA Brigade received complaints that certain unscrupulous elements have encroached on the Anambra State Government lands in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Trans-Nkisi, Akpaka forest and Oba defunct international Airport and have erected illegal structures of various kinds in the aforementioned lands.

The land at Nkwelle-Ezunaka was acquired by the Government in 1934 for farm settlement (agricultural purposes) and all compensation dully paid to the community. The agricultural business has been going on, until recently when the Nkwelle-Ezunaka Youths moved in there with pump action guns and other dangerous weapons and chased away agric extension workers, maimed them, vandalised their properties and destroyed all the agricultural buildings.

Staff of the Office of the Surveyor General went there and they were beaten up and chased away, Physical Planning Officers went there and they were also chased away and the people continued to sell the land and erect illegal structures with impunity in spite of the repeated warnings by the State Government through the Media.

All efforts made by the Anambra State Government, to stop them as well as all efforts made for peaceful resolution proved abortive. The State Government set up a Joint Land Recovery Task Force which was headed by Chief Kenneth Okonkwo, the Managing Director/Superintendent General of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade to recover Government land which had been encroached on.

Ndi Anambra and members of the general public who may wish to buy lands in these Areas: Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Trans-Nkisi, Akpaka forest and Oba defunct international Airport are hereby advised to go to the State Ministry of Lands to verify and ensure that it is not Government land before doing so in order not to fall victim as the miscreants will continue to sell and defraud the unsuspecting members of the public.

It is regrettable that some miscreant youths in the aforementioned communities have decided on their own to earn their living by illegal selling and reselling of government lands within their community.

As a Law Enforcement Agency, the Management of the Brigade sent warning letters to the dissidents to stop the erection of illegal structures forth with but to no avail. The Agency in collaboration with other Security Agencies as empowered by Law moved to the aforementioned areas to instil discipline and sanity and prevent further exploitation of the people by the cabal which thrives on lawlessness.

It is pertinent to State categorically that the Agency has never asked anybody for any gratifications contrary to the false publication on the online media and can never ask for such in discharging its lawful duties.

Ndi Anambra are hereby called upon to disregard the frivolous publication as it lacks merit, fairness and objectivity in all ramifications.

The people of Nkwelle-Ezunaka and Oba are as well advised to go about their normal business and develop their genuine lands as they wish to, because there is no cause for alarm.

Those involve in these crimes have long acknowledged their wrong doing and are working out peaceful resolution through their PG, Chairman of their landlord association. They are willing to amend their ways.

The Government of His Excellency Chief Dr. Willie Obiano is ever committed and determined to ensuring the protection of lives and properties of Ndi Anambra, as well as creating an enabling environment for businesses and talents to thrive in an atmosphere devoid of lawlessness.

The Governor will continue to fight for and protect the collective interest of Ndi Anambra even in the face of the upcoming election. The standard is simply to do the right thing.

The State Government is aware that these miscreants will continue to foment troubles and paddles lies against the administration. We have zero tolerant for criminals and criminalities and will continue to fight them despite their rumours.

The Obiano administration will continue to lead the State to the path of economic recovery and emancipation in order to build a State that will be conducive and suitable for today’s inhabitants and as well be beneficial to her future generations.

Anambra adigo nma, nyee aka ka odiwanye mma. Impunity, Lawlessness and crime have no place in Anambra State. People must obey the law and do away with all vices.

Long live the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Chief Dr. Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano!

Long live Anambra State!

On 29th of February 2016, Justice Anwuri Chikere made an order that PDP should change its candidate.

On 14th of March 2017, the same judge made another order that APC cannot change its candidate.

Justice Anwuri Chikere ruled that:

1. The time for nomination/withdrawal or substitution of candidates for Court ordered election in Anambra Central Senatorial District had elapsed.

2. As decided by the Court of Appeal in the case of LABOUR PARTY VS. INEC (2008), there is no room for fresh candidates in Court ordered election.

BY THIS LATEST ORDER, JUSTICE A. CHIKERE HAVE OVERRULED HERSELF.

INEC should not be misguided by some disgruntled politicians who wished that Anambra Central will not have a senator until 2019.

INEC should not succumb to the latest antics employed by a Failed Minister to stop conduct the rerun election.

INEC have every authority under the law to conduct Anambra Central senatorial rerun election without PDP.

Umeh however, praised the strength of mothers. “I thank God for what mothers do; they take care of the child, train the child. I thank God for the joy mothers bring. I pray more grace, more wisdom and more strength for all mothers,” he said.

Umeh who gave the charge to mark this year’s Mothering Sunday, stated that the role of mothers in nation building cannot be over-emphasised, as they performed the bulk of domestic chores including the task of raising the children.

He emphasized that his senatorial ambition is to expand the scope of youths and women empowerment programs and to create skills acquisition centres for women and youth development.

Umeh however, praised the strength of mothers. “I thank God for what mothers do; they take care of the child, train the child. I thank God for the joy mothers bring. I pray more grace, more wisdom and more strength for all mothers,” he said.

Happy Mothering Sunday

Politics / ANAMBRA CENTRAL: INEC INTEGRITY AT STAKE by ejioforjm(m): 6:59am On Mar 20, 2017
Anambra Central Senatorial District remains the only senatorial district out of 109 senatorial district in Nigeria which still has no senator representing the senatorial district in the National Assembly.

It is very unfortunate because the people of this senatorial district have been denied a representation in the Senate in all the businesses of the National Assembly that impacts on the lives of citizens of this country.

The Court of Appeal, which is the final court vested with the authority and jurisdiction to decide on all matters relating to National Assembly matters had on 7th of December, 2015; nullified Anambra Central senatorinal election and ordered a fresh election.

The PDP, instead of accepting their fate that they will no longer participate in the election, their candidate having been disqualified by the decision of the Court of Appeal had decided to use frivolous actions to frustrate that rerun election from taking place according to law.

On the 10th of February 2017, the Supreme Court in a unanimous judgement affirmed that decision of the ‘Court of Appeal' was final in all aspects over the dispute relating to that Anambra Central senatorial rerun election.

In the words of one of the justices of the Supreme court “the order made by the Court of Appeal on the matter remains final forever; it cannot be revisited by anybody”.

INEC, which was a party in all the proceedings both at the Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court are very much aware that the matter has come to a final rest.

INEC should not be misguided by an order made by a High Court in flagrant disobedience to a subsisting order of the Court of Appeal, which was affirmed by the Supreme Court on February 10th 2017.

INEC should not be deceived by an order made by a High Court in conspicuous disregard to the decision of the Supreme Court in 2009 (Labour Party vs INEC) that regulates the conduct of rerun election.

INEC has every authority under the law to conduct Anambra Central senatorial rerun election without the candidate of the PDP.
