NYSC shifts corps members mobilisation over elections The National Youth Service Corps on Monday said corps members would be mobilised in only two batches in 2015. They are 2015 Batch ‘A’ and 2015 Batch ‘B’. NYSC has however shifted the date of mobilisation for Batch A from Tuesday, May 5, to Tuesday, May 26, 2015. The Director of Press and Public Relations in NYSC, Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, said this in an interview with THE PUNCH while clarifying a press statement on Monday in which she said the decision was “due to some operational exigencies.” Aderibigbe said, “Part of the reasons is because of the forthcoming general elections. You know our corps members are participating in the elections. February 21 is when elections will be rounding off and Batch A, that is supposed to pass out, will still be in service to continue with the elections.” The NYSC spokeswoman denied that the action was due to fears that there could be a repeat of the 2011 post-election violence. She said, “No, which post-election violence? It is not because of that; we have three batches already in service and they are all participating in the elections. It is not because of fear of post-election violence.” A earlier sent by the NYSC read, “The management of the NYSC wishes to inform the general public, especially prospective corps members, that due to some operational exigencies, corps members will be mobilised in only two batches this year: 2015 Batch ‘A’ and 2015 Batch ‘B’. “Furthermore, the 2015 Batch ‘A’ Orientation Course has been scheduled to take place from Tuesday, May 5 to Tuesday, May, 26 2015, and not in the month of March as obtained in the previous years. “All prospective corps members are advised to check the NYSC website: www.nysc.gov.ng for details of the 2015 Batch ‘A’ mobilisation time-table and be guided accordingly, please.” |
Anambra state Government has declared Monday, January 12 a public holiday. This was in response to several agitations by groups and well-meaning people of the South East to give a befitting burial to all Biafra soldiers and civilians who died as a result of the brutal civil war that claimed millions of lives, including women and innocent children most of them victims of malnutrition popularly known as Kwashiorkor during the 30 month war. A few years ago several groups like MASSOB, Biafran Zionist Movement and individuals had clamored for a befitting burial to be given to all the dead whose families could not afford such rites in line with the Igbo and African belief. The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano said that the holiday would be observed as a response to several agitations by well- meaning groups and people of the state to observe a day burial for the civil war heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice with their lives. The final burial which is expected to take place at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka would commence with a non-denomination service. Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, Ogirishigbo and founder, Rojenny Tourist Village, Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state emphasised the need for the final burial rites to the fallen Biafrans. He described the plans by the state government to observe January 12 as a public holiday as a welcomed development. According to him, “some of the atrocities carried out by the youths like armed robbery and Kidnapping are as a result of the wandering spirits of the departed Biafrans whose souls have not yet rested in Peace”. He stated that with the final burial, progress and peace would soon return to many families in Anambra state. |

With over 1,000 ballots sorted, out of the 7, 214votes at the ongoing All Progressives Congress,APC, presidential primary at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, a former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, has earned more ballots than his four other challengers. Coming a distant second is the Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who seems to be performing way beyond expectation, and appears to have earned more votes than former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who is generally regarded as the most experienced politician among the lot. The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, is also putting put some contest, but he clearly lies in a distant fourth position behind Mr. Atiku, who seems to have received the third highest votes at the moment. Not entirely surprising in fifth place is the Publisher of Leadership Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah, who clearly is the least experienced politician of the lot. Mr Nda-Isaiah is yet to get a ballot so far as at the time of this report. It is however early to award victory to any of the candidates at this time as there are still thousands of ballots to count. Sorting is still ongoing and PREMIUM TIMES will continue to update you with happenings at the venue. |

I remain Akubueze Chukwuebuka d owner of Http://ansuinfo.com a blog site created to help ansu prospective students with relevant informations mainly about admission. Pls exercise patient and read through this to the End. My intention of creating the site is to prevent what happened to me from happening to other prospective student. In 2008 when i wrote my first jamb, i chose University of Ibadan as my first choice and University of Calabar as my 2nd choice, with the help of my teacher, i was able to be linked up with a UNICAL Students who was not ready to help out, i do call her as often as i can and she told me not to worry that once Unical start selling their post Utme form, she wil inform me. I then relaxed, i was unable to establish link wit a UI Student, all my effort proved abortive. One faithfull day, i called d friend from Unical, and was suprised to hear her news, i called her on monday and she told me dat Unical stoped selling Putme form on friday, dat day i was nearly mad. To cut d whole story short, i missed d PUTME of the two universities i chose after scoring 257 in my Jamb. It painful or is it not? This is what moved me, i vowed to try to d best of my ability to help inform prospective student in any way i can. I build blog sites and also paste informations here on nairaland as a charity work, this year i was expecting to advance by designing and building a complete site,by Extending d info to include all south East Universities and also by using bulk sms to inform prospective students on when their chosen school wil be writing PUTME. This can be achieved with ur little help mainly the parents who read through it, ur little contribution might be of help to many, what u giv to God is not only what u giv in d church but what u giv to those in Need. U can contribute by calling me On 08064741098. Den for Prospective students who wishes to be informed when their school wil start selling putme forms also call me with dat same number but as from 4pm monday to thursday and anytime friday to sunday. Thanks And remain blessed. AKUBUEZE CHUKWUEBUKA. Anambra state University, Uli campus |
