Henkyz: @All, just came out from vac, it was a request for a January start date cuz my initial one was September.. Just submitted it now. The God dat is doing it for me will do it for us all...AMEN.
@All, pls always check ur email/spam box cuz vac is another delaying factor now.. They had my doc since 22nov yet no update..

galala123: Been viewing and reviewing the thread every minute hoping to see good news. It crossed my mind a few minutes ago too. I hope they have not gone on holidays oh! Only to start calling eventually to ask if awaitees can get registration extension deadline letters from their various schools conSidering the christmas and new year holiday.
Meanwhile, while as optimistic as ever, I urge awaitees to begin to search if they can get May start dates and prepare to apply in case they have application deadlines. The problem with CDHC is that oftentimes, they just waste your time and block your chances of catching other opportunities by holding on to your package till it's too late to re-apply. There is no harm in being prepared for the worst.

wow.....its so sad to hear that this is even a common thing that they do. Honestly @galala123 ive been thinking the same thing myself the year ia almost over considering the fact that even if one is called for medicals now, it takes in a best case scenario 3 to 4 weeks before the trv is ready and knowing that most winter start dates is january 7th. This is really sad. Anyway i have a question, i had already deferred from fall 2012 september to winter 2013 january, would it be possible for me to defer again to summer 2013 may?......please answers from anyone. School is carleton university.

ifegy: Well, unfortunately I'm not a techie so can't give an indepth answer to that. There is an info tech association of Canada- you could try contacting them to ask if they know what areas employers are hiring in the most these days. http://www.itac.ca/

Other than that, my knowledge is pretty broad based. Eg, there is a cluster of tech companies that have developed around RIM (blackberry maker) in Waterloo, and they seem to cover a broad range of research and innovation in tech areas. There is also something called the Ontario technology corridor which basically covers the tech industry in Southern Ontario: http://www.ontariotechnologycorridor.com/

I also read recently that apparently Toronto is a hot spot for app developer start ups, but again don't have much indepth info on that.

The schools you are interested in might also be able to give you an idea of what type of tech employers are doing most of the hiring these days.

Siga: .....I work with a telecoms company here....I work in IT...my background is actually Wireless Telecoms and I moved into IT later on within the company....I can tell u that Database management and IT Security is pretty good...

ifegy: Well, it's important to have a balanced view of these things. There are so many factors to consider when looking at the employment picture in Canada. As mentioned earlier, if you're looking for a position in Oil and Gas or mining, then by all means head to Alberta and Saskatchewan respectively, or even the Northwest Territories or Northern Ontario, as you will be more likely to find what you want there. If you're interested in the tech industry, then perhaps Waterloo, Ontario, with its tech cluster might work for you. If you want financial services, then Bay Street in Toronto, Ontario is a better choice than St John's, Newfoundland. If you want salmon fishing, then Vancouver might work better for you. If you want construction, well, there are more high rises going up in Toronto than almost anywhere else in the world so that might work for you. If you want to work in a French environment, then head to Quebec. Federal government? Ottawa's probably best. Just ensure you're bilingual. Farming? Take your pick on the provinces. And so on.

In Ontario, from personal experience, there are people (including immigrants) I know with very good professional jobs, as well as those looking for jobs, and those who have gone to other provinces for jobs, or even personal/lifestyle preference.

Just to give some perspective, the Ontario economy is almost three times that of Alberta, so it might take a while for both economies to change places.

Having said that, it's a free country. Do your research, get a balanced view, and make your choice where you want to end up.
