the name obaseki is a colocation it's form a different meaning putting two words together.

for example head+master we get headmaster. but if you look for meaning of head it's part of human body then if you go by the first word meaning you will get it wrong. we already know that head is at the top and master is someone that is in charge of a particular department or work. so Headmaster come to play. same as Oba+seki. obaseki

Oba a Yoruba word.

oba is an Edo word meaning Bright. i.e omo no ba, also mean the bright son.
that's why oba only wear two colors of clothes which white or red. these two colors represent light. the obas of Benin from the previous dynasty was called Ogiso meaning the one from the sky or the prince from the sky. sky also represent light which means Oba in translation.
