Last week, I traveled to Abuja to visit a friend. During the week, my friend went to work but left his car at home, so around 12:40 in the afternoon, I decided to drive around the city with my friend's car while following Google Maps. I mistakenly drove into Aso Rock, and soldiers almost killed me.

Just three years ago, Nigeria’s immediate former president, Muhammad Buhari announced the launch of eNaira at a well-celebrated event at the state house in Abuja. The eNaira, a project of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at the launch was touted as a new payment system that would revolutionise the country’s financial landscape. It promised to modernise payment systems and foster greater financial inclusion for underserved populations.

The electronic currency, the apex bank said, will permit fiscal advantages and financial inclusion to strengthen the economy eventually. At the same ceremony, the former president claimed that the eNaira would potentially increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product by $29 billion in the next ten years.

On the day of the launch, the eNaira app was released in various app stores for download by businesses and individuals. On the app, eNaira tokens, equivalent to normal naira, could be purchased. Registered users could make payments, transfer money, and save up the tokens via the app.

By January the following year, the CBN announced that the app had been downloaded over 694,000 times and processed over 35,000 transactions. Subsequently, in 2022, the CBN reported the app having processed just a little below $10 million worth of transactions on the platform. As of July 2023, an IMF report revealed that just 0.5% of Nigerians adopted the eNaira and that 98.5% of eNaira wallets remained inactive a year after its launch.

Now in 2025, all the enthusiasm for the digital currency has dwindled, and the eNaira is at best, an obsolete invention. With new administrations at the Federal Government and the CBN, there appears to be seemingly no plans for it, and the project’s future remains unclear and directionless. The phone lines on its official website are unreachable, its social media handles are dormant (its last post on X dates back to August 2023), and all the buzz around it vanquished. In result, what was supposed to be Nigeria’s version of successful Central Bank Digital Currency is now a white elephant.

Professor Usman Yusuf, former Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, on Saturday, said he is surprised the South Eastern part of the country has remained quiet amid the worsening economic hardship facing the country.

DAILY POST reports that there have been agitations against the increasing hunger in some parts of the country, most of them from the south west and northern part of the country.

However, Yusuf found it surprising that the South East has remained calm.

He said: “I honestly don’t know why the South East is quiet, uncharacteristically quiet. But the President needs to find out. The North is where I know I live; even my heritage is. The silence in the North is more lethal than anywhere else in the country. And the President needs to listen to that.


“The silence in the North, from the people of the North in spite of the suffering people are going through, is more lethal than people coming out.

“We are going into the month of Ramadan, people are going to pray. We ask the President to buy food, flood the market and feed the people before things get too late.

“The whole country is suffering. There’s hunger in the land. We hope you listen. Don’t listen to your advisers. Bring a whole lot of money for food, don’t wait for the governors.”

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has told Elon Musk he is out of town after his billionaire rival said he would drive a Tesla to the Facebook CEO’s home in the hope he could fight the tech billionaire.

Mr Musk took to Twitter, to detail his latest plans to try and fight with the Facebook founder after Mr Zuckerberg cancelled it saying that his rival was not serious about the bout.

Don't go into tiling or machine, I will advice you go into music video production instead. Tiling work is not lucrative na suffer head work, tiling is not scalable. Machanic work is not a good option too, lot of people doing it are looking for a way to option out because less people are driving now, petroleum products are getting too expensive except if you want to learn electric cars repair. Learn music production and add video production to it. So you can have something to fall back on, good luck.
