Politics / Akwa Ibom Women Are Not Sex Machines by Elijah205: 10:08am On Mar 16
By Imoh Etimudo

In 2007, at an event organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Akwa Ibom State, held at Ibom Hall, the anchor of the programme, the Late Margaret Eshiet narrated a story of how a woman gave testimony in church that Nigerian women are succeeding in prostitution in Italy, which she pronounced as "Itary." According to her, the woman said God has helped them to displace Italian prostitutes and now, they are majorly in charge in most cities in Italy; foreign prostitutes o!

Those who believe the prostitutes in Italy are mostly Italians are living in the past. Delegates and contingents from other countries had since overpopulated the profession in Italy.

It is wrong to refer to Akwa Ibom women as sex machines because not every girl you see in Akwa Ibom is from the State, and not every prostitute who speaks Akwa Ibom, like two girls who spoke with such level of fluency, is Akwa Ibom. It could be for advertisement purposes.

Those who do prostitution as a profession can go for their "work" in any part of the world. And the best way to attract customers and sell your products at lucrative prices is to attempt to speak the language of locals.

This stereotype of Akwa Ibom women as "lovers of sex, possessors of fine buttocks, headquarters of prostitution and holders of powerful libidos" is not true. This is stereotyping our women, and that is most condemnable.

During the administration of Senator Godswill Akpabio, the government through the relevant ministry and of course, the office of the the then first lady attempted to sanitize the State of harlots. It was to be discovered that these were professional "players" who only came to Akwa Ibom to be signed on. They came from all parts of the country, particularly, the East to do their career, earn a living and go their way.

The more developed and rich a city is, the more it attracts prostitutes. Why do all the good footballers go to England, Spain, France, Germany and now Saudi Arabia? Because the clubs there can pay. Okocha, Ronaldo, Maradona, Drogba, Messi and other talented footballers do not ply their trade in their homelands, they go to where they will flourish.

That is not to say there are no Gerrards, Rooneys, Terrys and other homegrown "players". But Akwa Ibom women are wrongly presented.

As an Akwa Ibom person, I feel so embarrassed by this kind of video by these two ambitious professionals projecting Akwa Ibom women in bad light.

And the girls who took advantage of their fluency in Akwa Ibom language to paint Akwa Ibom women in sexual colours are very unfair to our women. They are using our humility and kindness against us.

There are so many responsible women in Akwa Ibom State. Other tribes marry from Akwa Ibom State. Are we saying they came to marry sex maestros?

Why not project our women who have successful careers in sports, education, banking business and politics? I don't want to mention names but they are everywhere, across the country and the globe.

But for these two girls, who may be reaching retirement ages of prostitution soon, for them to say so about Akwa Ibom women means they are big signings in the prostitution career. Like they say, it takes a legend to spot a legend.

Of all the good women in Akwa Ibom State, why do they choose to make friends with only the lovers of sex, holders of high libidos and prostitutes? It also means they themselves are PhD holders of sexual activities, and they could have been running out of customers. Is the best way to announce their desire for sex to insult Akwa Ibom women?

Please, disregard their video. Prostitutes are everywhere; no society has the monopoly of harlotry. This is deliberately giving Akwa Ibom women and the State a bad name because something good is happening in Akwa Ibom State.

This is an insult on our collective stakes in Akwa Ibom women who are our women, our wives, our leaders, our sisters, our mothers, our daughters, our aunties, our in-laws and our friends. What an insult from attention seekers! Do they want us to tell stories? Don't push us further!

Foreign harlots should leave Akwa Ibom alone!

Politics / A'ibom Government Seeks Partnership With Parallex Bank On Enterprise Development by Elijah205: 11:31pm On Mar 12
...as bank opens branch in Uyo

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has tasked the management of Parallex Bank to reel out financial services that will complement the ARISE Agenda of his administration to further promote and support entrepreneurship in the State.

Speaking at the official opening of its Uyo Branch, the 12th in the country, Governor Eno welcomed the bank to state and expressed the willingness of the government to work with the bank in a way that will benefit both the State and its citizenry.

He assured the bank of State government's resolve to provide financial facilities for citizens of the State at modest interest rates that would encourage the growth of small and medium scale enterprises in the State.

"We welcome you very warmly to Akwa Ibom State and to assure you that we will do our best to support you. We just hope that your coming will increase the tempo of financial services in our state and we hope to partner with you in a way that will bring benefit to both the State and the citizenry.

"We want you to touch on the issue of interest rate. We will see how to partner with you to ensure that our people, particularly, SMEs, have the support they require to grow their businesses."

Governor Eno who commended the bank's pace of growth, noted that with the prevailing business friendly atmosphere in the State, Parallex Bank will see the need to expand its operations and that Akwa Ibomites will someday also sit on the board of the bank.

The Governor who had earlier recieved the management team on a courtesy visit in his office, lauded the composition of the bank's Board of Directors with reputable Christian leaders, and charged them to live up to public expectations in line with its posture of probity.

"I know your bank was incorporated in 2020, having previously operated as a micro finance bank for some time. So we want to congratulate you for the growth that you have witnessed in the last three years in technology and superior customer services and all of the things that you have done. These days, banking has gone beyond the armchair, you need to know your customers, they need to trust you.

"I trust that working with you , you will not betray the trust that God Himself has put on our shoulders. This is because every time I prepare to come to work, I tell God to help me not to betray that trust that He has placed on me, and to help me be a servant leader. I look forward to working with you," Governor Eno noted .

Earlier, the Chairman of the Bank's Board of Directors, Dr. Adeola Phillips, expressed appreciation for the enabling environment created by the Governor Umo Eno- led government in the State which, she affirmed, facilitated the bank's smooth take-off and pledged to partner Akwa Ibom people towards achieving great heights.

Leading the audience through the operational tenets of the bank, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Olufemi Baker, assured the Akwa Ibom public of seamless digital and professional operations, with collaborative relationships built on trust and customer satisfaction.

Politics / A'ibom Govt Set To Commence Arise Shelter Initiative by Elijah205: 11:11pm On Mar 12
... as Gov Eno Urges Aides to Further Rural Devt Agenda

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has disclosed government’s readiness to commence the Arise Shelter Initiative, an housing scheme for the less privileged in the local government areas across the State.

Governor Eno announced this during a meeting with the 368 Ward Personal Assistants at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.

The Governor who decried the dilapidated state of residential houses of the less privileged in the State, assured on the readiness of his administration to change the narrative by providing 31 houses to the poorest of the poor across the State in line with the rural development component of the ARISE Agenda.

He explained that the houses which would be fitted with solar power and water facility will be built in batches across the 31 local government areas of the State.

He said, "we are starting the ARISE Shelter for the Less Privileged. Firstly, we have finished the design of the buildings, costing has been done for two bedroom flats with solar lights and boreholes.

"I did this quietly because I didn't want this politicized. If I had given people opportunity to do this, they would have chosen people from their families. So we had to do this quietly, and we want to start awarding this quietly to all these people and when we finish, we will go round again. This is because I care for the rural people.

"There is no local Government that is not represented here.we will start this projects soon and when it starts, I expect the Ward PAs to go and inspect the progresses of these projects and bring us reports.

"If we continue to touch these small lives, it will have a great positive effects such as increasing the life span of these dwellers. We may not be able to touch everybody, but let us show the way so that any philanthropic organisation will follow us," he said.

On the bulk purchase agency bill, the Governor said it will be assented to on Thursday March 14, and sought the cooperation of the PAs for the successful implementation of the programme.

He stressed that the PAs will also handle the distribution of the food voucher with the help of the social register for a seamless execution, while ensuring a transparent distribution process.

The governor again explained the workability of the food policy, saying government will enlist the services of the traders to ensure availability of food items to the people at a reduced rate and take up the balance of the payment as its contribution towards ameliorating the effect of the hardship on the people.

Governor Eno reiterated the need for everyone to engage in farming as a permanent solution to the food crisis and used the occasion to reiterate the need for the local government Chairmen and the 368 PAs to reside in their various local government areas for effective execution of their responsibilities.

Earlier, the commissioner for Economic Development, Bob Almond Emem, commended the Governor on his strategic programmes and policies aimed at improving the living conditions of the people, pledging that the bulk policy programme will be effectively implemented.

Politics / Akwa Ibomites Disown Akpabio Over Incessant Outbursts …advocate Leadership Proto by Elijah205: 9:25am On Mar 12
Worried by the incessant unguarded outbursts attributed to Nigeria’s Senate President Godswill Akpabio, his kinsmen have advocated a special leadership protocol workshop for him.

They have also distanced themselves from his incessant controversial misdemeanor, dismissing them as self inflicted damages uncharacteristic of Akwa Ibom people.

A frontline group from his home state, Akwa Unity Forum(AUG), stated that it was very embarrassing, the current situation where the Number Three citizen of the country has metamorphosed from a responsible nobleman, to an iconic comic figure.

The group in a statement by Chairman, Aniefiok Umoh and Secretary, Solomon Okon, said it was particularly embarrassed by Senator Akpabio's unwarranted remarks at the funeral of the late Dr Herbert Wigwe where Akpabio responded wrongly to the remarks by the Rivers State Governor, Mr Simlaye Fubara.

They expressed fear that something remarkably bad must have happened to Akpabio leading to his diminishing profile.

The statement reads in part, "We are yet to come to terms that such a sober event did not matter to Senator Akpabio, but he rather saw it as an opportunity to play politics. Must he played politics with everything?

"Governor Fubara was not saying anything untoward. He was just inferring the ephemerality of life hence people should live conscious of the end."

The group expressed surprise that such was enough to trigger Akpabio to begin his outburst, oblivious of the fact that one family had lost three lives, including a man that had all to have bought life for the family if it were possible.

The group wished Akpabio had humbled himself to learn a lesson or two from the event in Port Harcourt.

According to the group, Senator Akpabio by that act has brought invectives to Akwa Ibom people.

They however appealed to Nigerians to know that the former Governor is on a frolic of his own, as "Akwa Ibom people are highly responsible and well behaved.

“Akpabio is on his own. Nobody sent him. It is only coincidentally to have him come from our State.

“But don't use his unguarded utterances to rate us," the group cried out.”

The statement noted that already, Akpabio is owing Akwa Ibom people a strong apology over his concocted cock and bull story on the Qua River Hotel, the malicious false narrative about Mobil Producing being meant to have been sited in Oron, inciting the people against the laws of the Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers Law and the Map Establishment law, among others.

"While we acknowledge that Senator Akpabio had apologized to the Governors. How about Akwa Ibom State that he said non existent and inciting things?

“That false narrative had attracted condemnation from responsible and respectful Nigerians. Yet, Akpabio did not consider it pertinent to apologize for creating confusion and misgivings between brothers.

“Akpabio has now become a one week one embarrassment Senate President.

“He needs urgent orientation to understand the rudiments of such exalted office as the Senate President.

“Although that is already putting the cart before the horse. This embarrassment has now reached an unacceptable level," the statement further opined.

Meanwhile, the group has equally hinted that even the story Akpabio told about his alleged visit to a Deputy governor in 2006 is a pure lie. They wondered where Akpabio is now manufacturing lies as his only weapon to gain undeserving public acceptance or even sympathy.

The group asked Akpabio whether as the then commissioner for lands and housing whether it was his responsibility to removing governors as he cooked up in the story.

According to them, Akpabio should even be punished for allegedly being a witness to the abuse and molestation of a woman without exposing the action, and noted that even now is not late for Akpabio to be invited to come and testify for possible prosecution of the eventual culprit.

The statement concluded that something urgent needs to be done to save Akpabio before he completely immerses such a revered institution like the Nigerian Senate in an ocean of destruction because of his lack of understanding of the import of the office he is holding.

"For the umpteenth time, we appeal to the federal government to urgently hold an orientation programme for Senator Godswill Akpabio. We cannot fold our hands to watch a hitherto responsible man fully degenerate to a laughing stock and object of ridicule. Let us help Akpabio from his diminishing voyage and save our nation," the statement concluded.
