A student, Shenise Farrell from London was left temporarily blind after surgery to change the colour of her eyes.



Shenise Farrell travelled to Panama, in Central America, for the unregulated procedure to change her eye colour from dark brown to light brown.

She spent £8,000 on the operation but it went wrong and she was almost left permanently blind.



Ms Farrell decided in 2009 that she wanted to change the colour of her eyes and so she began researching surgical options.

Despite her family's horror, she travelled to Panama to have a procedure which involved implanting coloured discs - like a contact lenses - into her eyes.

According to Ms Farrell 'I was so determined to get the surgery nothing rang alarm bells for me - nothing obvious.'

When Ms Farrell arrived at the clinic in Panama, she was told that she could not have the light brown implants as they were out of stock.

As a result, the surgeon informed her that she would be given blue implants instead. Despite this not being her original intention, she decided to go ahead with the operation.

Ms Farrell says that during the procedure she screamed and the surgeon told her not to scream as it 'could cause things to go wrong'.

To her huge shock, at the end of the 20 minute procedure, Ms Farrell realised she couldn't see properly.

She says it was as though she was looking underwater but the surgeon told her not to worry and that for some patients it took up to two weeks for vision to return to normal.

However, by the time Ms Farrell returned to London her sight had deteriorated further. She went to Charing Cross Hospital where she was unable even to read the biggest letter on the optician's chart.

Doctors at the hospital had never seen anything like it so were temporarily at a loss as to how to help her.

Eventually, it was decided that the implants had to be removed. Ms Farrell risked permanent blindness to go under the knife again.

This time, surgeons made an incision in her corneas to allow them to remove the implants.

Ms Farrell said: 'When I woke up I saw black. I panicked. I thought if my vision goes, my life will be over.'

However, the blackness she saw was only caused by the bandaged surgeons had placed over her eyes.
When these were removed, she was able to see again but her vision was blurry. It took two to three months for her vision to return to normal.

She said: 'Now that my eyes are back to normal, my eyes are brown but it doesn't matter what shade of brown it is. The main thing is that I can see.'

WizKid

Star Boy and EME artiste, Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun, whose second studio album was postponed thrice in 2013, is expected to release the anticipated musical work this year. Expected to be loaded with international and local collaborations, and top notch productions from top producers, Wizkid’s yet-to-be titled second album might go the way of the first album; an all hit musical work.

Wande Coal

Remember he trended worldwide on social network, Twitter, when he released three singles back in 2011. Wande who ended the year 2013 with a Glo endorsement deal after a split with his former label boss, Don Jazzy, is expected to release his second long awaited album under his Black Diamond imprint.

D’Banj

Popular singer, D’banj, who earlier told PREMIUM TIMES that he would be celebrating his 10th year anniversary of active service with an album, is not expected to disappoint his fans. After an average outing with his label compilation album, DKM, we hope his 4th long awaited album will take him back to the top.

Davido

Davido, who provided us with the controversial dance, Skelewu, in 2013 is expected to ride on the buzz his last two singles gave him and release his second album. Davido’s second album, which might not be released until the last quarter of the year, is as anticipated as those that will be released before his.

Regarded as the king of African pop, TuFace Idibia, who was in the news all through 2013 despite not releasing a single will hopefully give his fans something to listen to this year having last released his fourth album in 2011.

The vice president at Chocolate City released a mix tape, Illegal Music 2, in 201. His third studio album, which was expected last year, should be released this year. M.I is also expected to push His imprint, Luppy Records, further and might release a label compilation album as well.

After winning Headies ‘Next Rated’ awards, the Difference Entertainment artiste who broke into the mainstream music industry in 2013 with his hit single, Sho Le, and subsequent singles Mama e and Komole, will seek to test his feet more in the music waters with a full studio album which is expected to be backed with production from D’tunes.

X3M music alternate artiste and MTN ambassador, Praiz, who had a decent 2013 with his multiple awards winning ‘Rich and Famous’ single is expected to release his debut album this year if tweets by his label boss, Steve Babaeko is any to go by.

‘No album but am getting millie…’ That’s a line from Phyno’s ‘man of the year’ song, and 2013 was his year as he rightly said. With chart topping and award winning singles, Phyno’s debut album remains one of 2014′s most anticipated albums. And before you forget, he narrowly missed out of Headies ‘Next Rated’ award category.

A 19-year-old girl, Shannon Skinner got the shock of her life when she realized she was still pregnant three months after she had an abortion.
Shannon had taken abortion pills when she was eight weeks pregnant but in a rare occurrence, the procedure failed and she continued having morning sickness and feeling movements in her womb. Tests later revealed that the baby had miraculously survived the abortion.

According to Shannon who also has a nine-month-old daughter, Lacie, “We thought she had gone. I had grieved for that baby and we’d just managed to get our heads around it.
“Anthony and I felt like we’d made the right decision because we were having problems and we didn’t think it was right to bring a baby into that. I’d always been one of those people that was against abortions and hated them but I was suffering with post-natal depression.”
She added, “We’ve now decided to keep the baby, as we don’t feel it’s right to have an abortion at this stage. She’s obviously a little fighter, and we don’t want to cause her any more harm.

Scans have since shown that her baby looks physically fine and she is due to be born on May 7.

Chinese man was admitted to a local hospital after he reportedly got a live eel stuck inside him.

According to the information provided by the Sun, the man inserted the 20-inch-long Asian swamp eel into his anus after seeing it done in a porn movie, and he had to endure all-night surgery to have it extracted.
The eel reportedly chewed through the man's colon, perforating his large intestine, and became stuck in his body cavity. A graphic X-ray image shows how far inside the eel was when the man came in for treatment.

Doctors revealed the eel, which was "simply trying to find its way out," was alive when removed but died shortly thereafter.
The Chinese man is still in hospital recovering. He might face animal cruelty charges.

The Asian swamp eel - also known as the rice eel or rice paddy eel - is a snake-shaped fish that is commonly sold live at food markets in East Asian countries.
Although this type of eel is known as an invasive species in parts of the United States, this isn't the first time that it's made its way into (ahem) foreign habitats.

In 2012, a New Zealand man had to have an eel removed from his posterior. In 2010, a Chinese man died after his friends allegedly inserted an eel into his rectum as a joke.
