There is no need to introduce these beautiful ladies, because everyone recognizes the popular Nollywood actresses Genevieve and Tonto Dikeh.
They have different styles, but when the two celebrities appear in similar outfits, the question always occurs: Who rocked it better?

Celebrities / Jay-z Tops 2014 Grammy Nominations by ellagal(f): 3:55pm On Dec 07, 2013
Jay-Z tops 2014 Grammy nominations
Veteran rapper Jay-Z topped nominees for the 2014 Grammys announced Friday with nine nods, while Taylor Swift and Daft Punk were also among those in the running in major categories.
But Jay-Z other major stars including Justin Timberlake failed to score any nominations in the major categories, which saw a mixture of rap and pop in the running for the top honors at music’s equivalent of the Oscars next month.
In second place with seven nods apiece were California hip hop star Kendrick Lamar and rapper Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, as well as Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams, while rapper Drake scored five.
The nominees in key categories were announced during an hour-long concert at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, including video-link performances by Swift from Australia and Katy Perry live from Canada.

Jay-Z
“This year’s nominations reflect the talented community of music makers who represent some of the highest levels of excellence and artistry of the year in their respective fields,” said Neil Portnow head of Grammys organizers The Recording Academy.
In the coveted Record of the Year category songstress Swift’s “Red” will compete with French electro duo Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories,” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s “The Heist,” Lamar’s “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City” and Sara Bareilles “The Blessed Unrest.”
Record Of The Year candidates are Daft Punk & Williams’ ubiquitous “Get Lucky,” New Zealand teenager Lorde’s “Royals,” “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons, Hawaiian crooner Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out Of Heaven” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” made infamous by Miley Cyrus’ twerking at the MTV Video Music Awards show.
Shortlisted for Song of the Year — for songwriters, as opposed to performers — were “Just Give Me A Reason” sung by Pink Featuring Nate Ruess; “Locked Out Of Heaven” sung by Bruno Mars; “Roar” sung by Katy Perry; “Royals” sung by Lorde, and “Same Love” sung by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis was also nominated for Best New Artist, up against James Blake, Kendrick Lamar, Kacey Musgraves and Ed Sheeran.
While big-hitters Jay-Z and Timberlake scored lots of nods, they were mostly in rap and pop/R &B categories respectively. Neither the rapper’s heavily marketed “Magna Carta .. Holy Grail,” nor Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience” made it onto the Best Album shortlist.
The 56th annual Grammys show — music’s version of the Oscars — will be held on January 26 at the Staples Center.
Whereas in previous years megastars like Britain’s Adele have been nominated in most of the key categories — and went on to a clean sweep of six Grammys last year — there appears little likelihood of an all-conquering act next month.
Industry journal Variety said Friday’s nominations made “for a wide-open race with no clear favorite and few megastars in the running for top honors at the music biz’s January kudofest.”
In fact Adele did secure one nomination Friday: in the Best Song for Visual Media category, for “Skyfall,” the theme tune to the last James Bond movie.
Other Britons shortlisted included veteran icon David Bowie, who won a Best Rock Album nod for “The Next Day,” his surprise first release in a decade in March, triggering ecstasy among older fans and arguably showing some younger stars how to do it.

Celebrities / Tuface Idia,banky W & Others Banned By Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation by ellagal(f): 4:19pm On Dec 06, 2013
his would be a difficult situation to face by these artiste as The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, and the Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria, IBAN, have stopped airing musical productions belonging to the following musicians; Chief Ebenezer Obey, 2Face Idibia, Onyeka Onwenu, Banky W,Iyanya, Azizat, D’Banj, Olamide, Dr. SID, Sammy Okposo, Olu Maintain, Sunny Neji, Rugged Man, Jasman Olofin, X-Project, Asa, African China, Terry G, Waje, Omawumi, Sound Sultan and J Martins.

the two bodies said they were constrained to take this step principally as “a result of COSON’s attitude of antagonism and harassment under the leadership of Tony Okoroji (COSON Chairman)”.

“No person or organisation, particularly a collection society such as COSON has a monopoly of authority over any other…IBAN and BON have the utmost respect for Nigerian artistes in their individual and collective capacities and have indeed contributed more than any known institution to the promotion of Nigerian music and the development of the entertainment industry as a whole,” the statement reads.

But in a swift reaction, Okoroji, COSON boss, said his organisation has read with amusement the empty threat by the leadership of BON that its affiliate stations would no longer play the music of Nigerian citizens on Nigerian stations because Nigerian musicians are asking for their right to be paid copyright royalties for the exploitation of their music as is done in every country in the world.

He said it is only in a country like Nigeria that this can take place with some people having no regards for intellectual property.

“The threat by the leadership of BON reveals the crass ignorance with which some members of BON have been misled and steered into easily avoidable crisis. For many years, this people have used ‘divide and rule’ tactics and threats to weaken the music industry and ensure that the industry did not effectively challenge its exploitation,” Okoroji said.

He stated that it is indeed revealing that IBAN/BON people who pretend to be leaders of the broadcast industry in Nigeria believe that they can play music belonging to foreign nationals for free in Nigeria without any consequence.

He said “For their information, by the reciprocal representation agreements entered into between COSON and several collective management organisations around the world and the various copyright conventions to which Nigeria is a signatory, every broadcast station in Nigeria is bound to pay copyright royalties for foreign music as it must for the music belonging to Nigerians. Failure to pay exposes Nigeria to both economic and diplomatic sanctions,” Okoroji disclosed.

“COSON has met with Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria (IBAN), National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and practically every major broadcasting network in Nigeria. While there are broadcasting stations that have reached agreements with COSON and are broadcasting music comfortably as required by law, some other stations have allowed themselves to be deceived by the empty boast of people who have told them that they can ‘handle’ COSON,” Okoroji added.

But IBAN and BON also said their members are ready and willing to pay royalties for works used but will not be railroaded into arbitrarily imposed and concocted fees which are not based on any agreeable and verifiable tariff and standards.

“In the circumstance, we are therefore taking steps in liaison with important stakeholders in the country to address and hopefully come to a fair and reasonable resolution of this COSON induced crises,” IBAN/BON stated.

learnt Prince Emeka Mba, Director General, National Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, has waded in.

The NBC boss is said to have called for a negotiated settlement, wondering how the stations can do away with works of the affected artistes who are the best in Nigeria and still meet up with requirement of NBC.

Celebrities / Top 5 Nollywood Actresses In 2013 by ellagal(f): 2:35pm On Dec 06, 2013
REVEALED: TOP 5 Nollywood Actresses in 2013. By Charles Novi

Nollywood film maker Charles Novia presents his list of Best 5 Nollywood Actresses in 2013.

The renowned filmmaker drew up his conclusions about the names on this list after watching them in stand-out roles in some movies released in late 2012 to the last quarter of 2013.

Charles Novia also consulted a few of his colleagues about this rating; tested film directors and there was an unanimity on 70% of the criteria he used in getting his conclusion. The people who helped Charles Novia in rating the actresses all agreed with him 100% on the choice for the Number One Actress in 2013!

See the LIST below:

NUMBER 5: RITA DOMINIC

Rita had a good year. Winning 'Best Actress' a couple of times (among many nominations) for the movie 'The Meeting'. I also watched her in another recently released movie, 'Finding Mercy' but felt that she gave a listless and lukewarm performance in that flick. In 'The Meeting', Rita was smoking. I would say that for the first time since I have been seeing her in movies, she found the right script which explored her acting depths. Rita is a Theatre Arts Graduate from Uniport and that is usually an advantage for actors with such credentials from Drama School. What is expected from such actors has to come to the fore someday in Nollywood, when the right script meets the right Director and the fundamentals of a good production are met. 'The Meeting' is that kind of production. Rita subsumed her character and aided the cackle points of the comedy. With make-up which aimed to transform and accentuate her character, she found it easy to give us all a good performance. However, I found some grey areas of her acting bordering between slapstick and sublimal comedy especially the part where she called out 'Code Red', which was a typical Nollywood play-to-the-gallery moment. But her acting on those few bits can be forgiven because she had a screen presence of mind. Rita Dominic has more to prove in Nollywood, either as an actress or as a Producer. If it is the former, then she has to be careful about her choice of scripts from now on because there might be false slips ahead. A good actress anyday, she is.

NUMBER 4: YVONNE OKORO

Now this would raise eyebrows with people asking if Yvonne is from Nollywood since she is associated more with Ghana. Nomenclatures do not matter to me. Nollywood is a global brand and is a huge platform for all African actors to make their mark. Besides, Yvonne's movie, 'The Contract', was released in the cinemas in Nigeria in 2013 which meets a part of the criteria I used in drawing up this list.

I must confess that I had not watched much of Yvonne's movies before 'The Contract'. I just knew her name from a few social media buzz which was neither here nor there for me. So when I watched her performance in 'The Contract', my curiosity gave way to admiration. She interpreted the role quite well. There was an almost effortless transition of moods and emotions in her characterisation and she had the audience eating out of the palms of her hands all through the movie. She came off looking like she had something to prove with that movie both as Producer and lead actress and I think she succeeded. There was nothing forced about her nuances in the movie, which projected a rare self-assuredness lacking in many of her counterparts. Since Ghana is her chosen country of citizenship, I would say she is an asset to her country in the acting field.

NUMBER 3: DAMILOLA ADEGBITE

A surprise resignation from 'TINSEL' in 2012, made most people wonder if Damilola knew what she was doing. She gave reasons for leaving the television serial; to concentrate on her acting career. Watching her in Michelle Bello's 'Flower Girl' brought home the wisdom in her career curve.

I have always held the notion that Damilola has a powerful screen presence. There's something sultry and appealing about her looks on screen. Very few actors have that aura. In Damilola's case, I thought it wasn't yet explored to the maximum. In 'Flower Girl', that screen aura combined with a visible attempt at internalisation and visualisation by Damilola in her role, made many see her in a whole new light. Finally, the stirrings of a Super Actress is beginning to show. 'Flower Girl' is a romantic comedy modelled after the genre as it is done in Hollywood. Attempting to get it right needs the right male and female actors in the lead roles. Damilola was the right pick for the female lead. She knew when to turn on the charm and when to disarm in the movie. She gave it her best and it showed. Hopefully, she would maintain the tempo and energy in her new movies after 'Flower Girl'.

NUMBER 2: TAMARA ETIENO

Many people would not remember her name and it is likely many would have forgotten her as the winner of 'The Next Movie Star' Reality show a couple of years back. But such credentials are not important when it comes to judging her abilities as an actor. Tamara was simply awesome in the movie 'Desperate Housegirls'! She gave an organic and jaw-dropping performance which must her won her new fans and etched her name somewhere on the consciousness of movie lovers. There was a closeness to method acting when watching her in 'Desperate Housegirls' and she must be commended for making acting interesting again especially as we have been assailed with talentless actors and actresses in the past few years. I predict that Tamara is going to shine in a few months but that illumination depends on the kind of scripts she chooses and the Directors she works with. But then, she is good. Quite good.

NUMBER 1: MERCY JOHNSON

Mercy would be my number one choice for 'Best Actress' in 2013. She has simply been awesome in her movies this year. There's something ultra-natural and organic about Mercy Johnson which confounds even her critics. She can act. She delivers. In four movies I watched in 2013, which she starred in, she was the epitome of delightful characterisation. Watch her in the 'Dumebi' spawn of movies and you would appreciate how her talent has evolved since she came back from her Maternity Break.

Mercy is a chameleonic actress, one with the uncanny ability to immerse herself in her roles. She can play the victimised House Maid in one movie and switch to the Lady Boss in the next. In fact, if the role suits her, she comes out smoking.

She is arguably the Best Actress for 2013. You can quote me on that.

Well, let's wait for the List of BEST 5 NOLLYWOOD ACTORS IN 2013.

Do you agree with this list?

Nairaland / General / Important Tips For All Ladies by ellagal(f): 3:35pm On Dec 05, 2013
1. Do not put on too much make up, you end up looking like you came out of the make-up factory.

2. Do not wear a vest or sleeveless top without shaving your armpits or without a bra underneath

3. Do not do artificial nails that makes you look like a dragon queen, simple is always sexy.

4. See-through leggings or a top used as a dress when you are out in public is a hell-to-the-no!

5. Never do things for a man with a hope of getting something in return, expectations are dangerous. Do it because you simply want to.

6. Never contradict what your man says - in public.

7. Never stalk the man that left you for the other woman

8. Do not share your best friend's personal life with every Tom, Dick and Harry.

9. Women should never act on distress in relationships like checking your man’s phone, nagging him to death, and acting like a paranoid freak. You will simply release him to someone else by doing so.

10. Never dish out your entire family drama on a first date. The guy just wants to know about you.

11. Stop obsessing over your body. It’s good to eat healthy and work out but let's leave it at that.

12. Say No to wearing over accessories; stop looking like a Christmas tree.

13. Never leave home without lip gloss, your phone and most of all, your dignity.

14. Never leave your used sanitary towel in the toilet for the next person to see. Women please!

15. Never wear very high heels if you can’t do the Naomi Campbell walk. You look like a drunken grasshopper.

16. Never wear short skirts and low cut tops when off to an Interview. You will create the wrong impression.

17. And finally, 'Never wish to be like any other woman. There are others out there envying you for who you are'..be gud,be simple,be real & be you

TERRIBLE: This Trader Was Caught In Lagos Mixing And Selling Local Drugs As Cough Syrup

A trader, Chijioke Nwagu has been arrested by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for allegedly manufacturing and selling counterfeit drugs.

From reports, NAFDAC said the suspect carried out the manufacturing of the drugs in the toilet of his two-bedroom flat where he mixes chemical in a 200-litre drum at his residence located at Elemijaye Street, Ajamgbadi area of Lagos State.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday, the Director-General of the agency, Paul Orhii said the suspect is specialized in counterfeiting cough syrup.

According to The Punch

He said, “Following an intelligence report and surveillance mounted at Alafia, Orile Iganmu, where Nwagu supplies counterfeit Tutolin with codeine cough syrup that he manufactures, operatives of NAFDAC intercepted and arrested one Uzodinma Odoemina with fake drugs

“Odoemina led investigators to Nwagu’s house where it was discovered that Nwagu carries out the illegal manufacture in the toilet of his house by pouring different locally-manufactured cough syrup of reputable companies into 200 litres drum and after mixing them, he then dispenses them into empty bottles and labels it as Tutolin with codeine cough syrup.

“In his house, we found, four cartons of Uniplex cough syrup, four rolls of Bancof cough expectorant, 50 bottles of Dr Meyers’ Coflin Cough Linctus, 1,500 bottles of Exiplon Epectorant, two cartons of Halfan tablet, 200 litres drum, one carton of Dr Nando double 77 keys to power and empty containers of these drugs as well.”

The Punch reports that the suspect’s wife, Jane, was arrested by the agency, adding that the suspect claimed that he did not plan on selling the goods in Nigeria, saying there were meant for export to Benin Republic.

Nwagu said, “I bought the packaging material of Tutolin with codeine from one Chibuike in China and the product was meant to be supplied to Benin Republic. In the course of my business, I met one Chisom Onwudinjo, who came to my house to see how I manufacture my goods in my house.

“He subsequently agreed to be my distributor and he also accepted that we will not sell the product here in Nigeria.”

Oshiomhole reconciles with widow, splashes N2m, scholarship to son
on december 02, 2013 at 2:55 pm in news
I am sorry for blocking the road-Widow
SIMON EBEGBULEM
BENIN CITY-GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state, Monday, gave the sum of N2million to  Madam Joy Oviengbede Ifije, the widow whom the Governor carpeted last week for blocking the  walkways along Mission Road with her goods.
Besides, the governor and his family gave scholarship Bright Ifije, the son of the widow in his education in order to help the family. The N2million was given to her to a rent a shop and set up a business so as to resist the temptation of selling along the walkways in future.
Oshiomhole and the family of the widow reconciled Monday during a breakfast meeting, where the governor reiterated his earlier apology to the woman following his outburst at her, which he confessed was as a result of anger from the way traders and drivers are frustrating the state government’s efforts to beautify Benin City.
Madam Ifije who knelt down to express her gratitude to the governor, said her actions on the said day was not intentional and pledged to join the state government in its campaign to ensure sanity and orderliness in the city.
While addressing Madam Ifije who was accompanied to Government House by her sister Patience Ajayi and the landlord, Mr Omobude Osakpanwa, Oshiomhole said he was sincerely sorry for the uncomplimentary words he used against the widow, adding that it was as a result of his passion to see that sanity returns in the city.
According to him, “my anger was that when I saw you blocking the road I said if your blocking the road do you want people to be killed and you said you are a widow and I said if you want other people to be killed. I am sure you know that we don’t want accidents on our roads and that was why we built the walk ways so that pedestrians will have their way and vehicles will have their way.
“Because we still find people abandon the markets to come and sale on the walkways blocking the road and you find out that the expansion that we have done, some time out of six lanes you find out that only two are functioning. They just block one of the roads, while buses will block another part of the road and there will be serious traffic.
“ I am doing my best to see that we make Benin City a beautiful city that it was before. You see, when you send a lot of money, government money to try and beautify the city, to build roads and all that, you find the roads are not working, I get very angry. The second issue is that when you put your goods on the roads, the buses can run into you or like those that sales tomatoes or pepper, those things can be contaminated because of the exposure which is not good.
“That was why I said to you if you are a widow do you want more people to be widows, but when I said go and die, I was really touched that I said that to you because I understand that looking at you, you are struggling but I was really angry but I realized that even at anger I can achieve the same result without talking to you the way that I did.
“Though I apologize to you from the bottom of my heart because even my own daughters they have been harassing me on your behalf. I was really angry that day because I was going round and I found out that a lot of things were wrong and it was a pity that that anger, that aggression was transferred to you and I hope you forgive me” he stated.
He further urged the widow to “assist me to talk to traders first to keep our roads clean, not to block on roads so that people walking, people walking can have the roads free. The state government will employ you to do this job for us and we will give you all the assistance you need”.
