The Nigerian military is just like every other Nigerian institution. We are all products of the same society. It is unrealistic to expect a perfect military in the midst of a 'twisted' society. Having said that, I must also posit that we cannot throw our arms in the air and give on striving to make our nation great.

My biggest problem especially with the rank and file is that of low self esteem. A lot of them have a very poor sense of self worth and that is why they easily get agitated among civilians. They want to show that they have the power to 'deal' with the civilian. They lack emotional intelligence and easily get sentimental and personal in their dealings with civilians. Please let the authorities teach them that civilians are there for their protection. It is disgusting to see a Soldier ponting or even sometimes actually hitting a civilian with nozzle of their rifle following a very trivial altercation. You get all sorts of beastly behaviour. They are not an occupation force but to maintain peace. I commend their gallantry in confronting criminals no doubt a times but a lot needs to be done to make them more professional.

Meanwhile their constitutional duty is to protect the citizens. I wept one day when I saw a military patrol team escorting a 'whiteman' and his dog. If you come to Port Harcourt and see how our soldiers have been reduced to the basest level of 'escort riders' in the name of security for oyibos, then you will weep for Nigeria. We have no dignity anymore as a nation.

For goodness sake Soldiers should not be deployed for a longtime on civil assignments. The psyche gets corrupted after a while.

The most annoying part of it is that it is the same military boys that break all traffic laws in the book in order to quickly move the 'ogas' to their destination. Yet the same oyibo people do not have one bit of respect for us as a nation. They regard us an undisciplined and disorderly/uncivilised people just on the first encounter approaching from the Airport. Meanwhile, they end up even deriding the same military by tagging them as only good for escort and guard duties and not fit for forward operations. I work with a multinational and I get really irritated when I have to tell them about the Nigerian situation and yet they are idirectly taking advantage of the disorder. Many of them have no valid work permit. How can I go to their country and I will be very careful to obey all their laws and yet when they come here our Police and Army will bully me out of my lane because they are driving against traffic escorting oyibo. Is it not like double tragedy being a Nigerian citizen?

If I were the Chief of Army staff, I don't care how much any oil company is willing to pay, I will withdraw Nigerian troops from providing escort services for oyibos. It is long overdue.

Honestly I will be much more concerned about Christians living exemplary lifestyle and showing others the right way to do things than wasting time on this matter.

So what is really the hulabaloo for? If you ask me we (Christians) should be more interested in asking the GOs and PAPAs and Mummys to as a matter of policy make the audited account statement public during the annual convention in an AGM. This should not be a problem is the church belongs to God and also to all of us providing the tithe and offering. Otherwise, then I manage my money as God directs me becasue clearly it will be obvious that every other thing may belong to God and us, but the money belongs only to the GO/CEO/PRESIDING BISHOP and members of His family.

The truth is that Nigerian Universities like every other University in the world teaches the student how to think. They teach you everything really - memorise, conceptualise, imagine, create, name it just everything. The only thing we lack here in Nigeria are the teaching aids like good labs, workshops, libraries etc.

The role of the student is to study - dig deeper, research, find out more, exercise the brain (which must include some memorisation), that is why you have to be tested for a sound aptitude at the end of the day. The University provides a variety of learning opportunities/methods. The individual ought to understand what works for him/her - then maximise value in that area. That is why the most important thing for achieving success is understanding yourself. Some people call it self realisation and others call it self actualisation. If a student chooses to use only the craming aspect of learning, then that's his/her choice. Like I said before, that route enables the acquisition of the certificate only. When it is time to demonstrate sound mental aptitude, they fail woefully.

That's why you see a lot of people without jobs yet others have multiple options in the same environment. Again I must point out that there are good jobs for good people. I agree there are some people getting good jobs based on 'connection', but most multinationals still reserve 90% of the slots for the best usually recruited through a very rigorous process. Let's quit the negative, complaining mentality. You must prove that you are the best and good for the job. These businesses only give their best positions to the best not based on sentiments. You must earn it. Nobody just gives it.
