Let me help you to correct an impression, a University Degree is only a certificate. It only shows you have actually attended the institution and studied the course indicated for the period indicated. It is like a movie script. The interpretation is an individual thing. Not a few Nigerian graduates - recent or old are giving their own excellent interpretation. If you are unable to interprete it like a star, then you are not one. Don't let anyone make you think you are inferior. You are not only if you do the hard work required to prove you are on top of your game. On the conrtary, I think Nigerian graduates of today actually have more support to excel like the internet and so on. But like everything, many do not use the opportunity well. A lot of Nigerian students don't like to work hard reserching, reading, going the extra mile to achive success. They will rather spend time on midnight calls, facebook, twitter, Niraland and co just wasting time. I work with a multinational firm and I have had the opportunity of working both within and outside Nigeria. I have also met a lot of other talented Nigerians doing great things and they did not attend any foreign schools. If you can, aim for a foreign education at a post graduate level, but degrees don't give you the job. A degree is only a minimum requirement. You have to demonstrate an above-average understanding of the concepts you have studied and show other good qualities of sound reasoning and problem solving abilities. You must have the ability to think and create solutions to any problems you are confronted with - no matter how novel. That is where a lot of people are deficient. It is not enough to know just what they taught you in school, you need to be able to deploy your faculty in any situation. That is what makes you 'employable'. A lot of people have degrees but are not employable due to inadequate demonstration of cognitive/abstraction abilities. Every company is first of all a business concern. And most businesses make money by solving other people's problems. So if they must hire you, you must show that your IQ is solid and can be deployed in creating solutions, that in turn create value for everybody. If you can do this, then anybody can emply you whether in Nigeria or outside. But you have to realise that when a company is hiring you from outside, then they are hiring you as an expatriate - that means you are both an expert in the field and also from another Country. Now that is where it becomes near impossible. They need to apply for a work permit on your behalf to their country's embassy or consulate and in doing that they must demonstrate that you are an expert and that the job you are coming to do has not got other qualified nationals with the required skill set to do it. How can a fresh gradute then qualify? That's why I will encourage you to take any job you get locally seriously no matter the size of the firm or the scope - because it could be the foundation on which to get that international job of your dreams - definitely not on where your degree comes from. That is why someone like me can get offers from recruiters abroad for jobs in the UK, US, middle east or any other part of the world - based on my experience level. Mind you I have only one engineering degree from FUTO. I'm sorry if I talked too much but as one who is interested in providing guidance for youger people for making right decisions, I get passionate when I see topics like this. |
In addition to having a degree, being a member of a professional body, reading journals etc, you need to work and get involved in really challenging projects. There is nothing like ''expert'' or ''world-class'' engineer if you don't get involved in the ''doing''. @ You will not become a "world-class engineer" in Nigeria. Sad but true.Where do you live and which industry do you work in? I live in Nigeria and trust me in my industry, there are fewer expatriates than Nigerians and we are doing a lot of ''world-class'' stuff right here in Nigeria. I personally get tons of offers from all over the world and I am not moved because I get a lot more playing time here being a Nigerian, playing in big projects - billions of Dollars Projects my brother. Have you heard of the Nigerian Content Developoment Law? My brother Nigeria has moved far beyond where you left her. |
My advice for you is to be very careful with how you handle this matter. This is a very potentially dangerous matter. It is like a boil in the middle of the a***s hloe. Anyhow you handle it, there must be serious pain. If the girl is really changed, she would not lie about being a virgin. She is still a big time cheat. Again, if she had changed, she would have found a way to relate this new worldview to you. At least so you realise that past is now past indeed. My guess is that she will deny you full time and possibly turn the story on you so the complainant becomes the accused like the Joseph story, if you tell your friend. And that is why it is dangerous to seek any form of audience with her in a bid to force her to tell the guy. She may capitalise on the private meeting to set you up trust me. You best bet is to tell your friend that you know her very well and give her a little idea of the fact that she was not averse to relating with guys but please save him the trauma of the 4some story. At least he'll figure out what you are saying. Then give them some distance and be discrete and watch your back because she will surely fight back. Let your friend know you are not discussing anything relating to the wedding with him again and you have no further part in it. Maintain good conscience but remeber, always watch your back whatever happens. This is fire, it will consume someone if not properly handled. Be wise and don't play with it. Cheers. |

@Valifax I sent you a mail. |
I wish I would have had to tell you to keep working at it. In this case there is nothing to work on. The guy is not confident about how you look and I don't think he is going to change that position. These are signs you should not overlook. Some people erroneously think that when they get married, then they will feel better about their spouse. I have heard people say things like, 'the love will grow after marriage'. Love does not grow. On the contrary this is when the guy should be all over you treating you like a queen. If he is already nagging about your weight, babygirl take it from me, he will only get worse and you'll regret it for your life. So take my advice, cut your losses, severe the relationship and move on. This is such a fundamental matter. It's good to lose weight and be physically fit but you need to decide to do it primarily for yourself and not by compulsion. It is dangerous to get into marriage with poor self esteem like he is already making you have. Don't go there anymore. Meanwhile I have told you what I know from not only beign married myself for 6 years, but also from careful study conducted on behavioural patterns between spouses pre and during marriage. All the best and though this may be painful, God has better plans for you trust me. Shalom. |

FBN has the highest votes for now.Do you really think there is a word like 'comfortableness'? Real wahala dey for this we country according to P SQUARE. |
I have sealed quite a number of deals on Nairaland: 1. I saw an advert of some cars from Cotonou for sale. I contacted the guy and he described the features of the car to me on phone (no pictures). a few days later, I asked for his account number and promptly paid 1million Naira into his account. I never knew him before, never saw him and never knew where he lived. He delivered my car as per plan and I was even surprised the car was more than he described. I have been using the car now for 1 year and no problems at all. 2. I needed to bring in another car from the US and I contacted one agent I met on NL. We negotiated the price for doing the clearing and all I had was his phone number. I ordered my shipping agents in the US to mail the original vehicle and export documents to him and they did. Note I had made 100% payment to him by paying into his account and yet, I never needed to see him first. He received them, cleared the car, even helped me with registration and brought the car to my office in Marina. That's the first time I saw him live. Needless to say I am doing another car (on the way to Lagos port) and the same guy is sure handling it. 3. When I needed to move to another apartment, I came to NL for possible leads and trust I got one and I am enjoying big time. These guys have become my friends and I tell you there are lots of decent good Nigerians. I am not only happy and proud to have met some of them on NL, I am equally humbled to be one of them. Another thing I need to point out is that I have an open mind so I don't discriminate based on gender, ethnicity or whatever. Mind you I am of Igbo tribe, but all the 3 guys mentioned above are Yoruba. So let's show that education and enlightenment/exposure can make you begin to see that other people are fundamentally human beings like you, who just happen to exist in another parts of the world, maybe speak a different mother tongue, or look physically different due to the need for adaptation. |
Please all the experts I need help to locate the A/T Vehicle speed sensor and also the accelerator pedal sensor for 2005 NISSAN XTERRA 4.0 Liter. An illustrative diagram will be highly appreciated. Thanks. |
Still awaiting some response. |
One of my colleagues' 2005 Nissan Xterra will not engage the Reverse gear, neither will it shift to higher level no matter how you push the accelerator pedal. He took it to the repair shop and they scaned it and the following results: P0720 : output speed sensor malfunction P0725: engine speed input circuit malfunction P1754: coast clutch solenoid circuit P1759: automatic transaxle (FR/B Solenoid FNCTN) P1769: HLR/C Solenoid FNCTN P1764: DC Solenoid FNCTN P1757: FR/B Solenoid/Circuit In addition to the check engine lighth, the 4WD light is constantly showing on the panel. They said he should change the gear box but then, we need to be sure because the money involved is not small at all. It is the 4.0 liter Xterra. Any help will be appreciated. |
Truth is that an average Nigerian consumer is does not take time to investigate before buying. I have come across a lot of people who just wants to buy anything 'tear rubber' irrespective of the safety features available and trust me the Korean brands (Kia, Hyundai, Daewoo and some Chevrolet models) provide them just that. For a lot people, it's a sign of moving up the ladder. There is so much 'herd mentality'. So many people actually think they are driving something 'big' because it is a brand new Kia and you'll obviously see it in their attitude. Agreed the government is doing absolutely nothing. The Automotive Council of Nigeria (ACN), which is supposed to be the organ of government regulating activities in the sector is just another avenue for settlement. The chairman is one mallam and trust me the only time you hear about him is during the annual Abuja international motor fair, which will soon happen and the rest of his job is to collect government subvention and share among his board members. An average buyer should be responsible enough to ask the right questions and investigate well before making such decisions. We as a people can also create a pressure group to force these dealers to offer good value to our teeming consumer population. |
I don't understand how a topic as silly as this should make it to the front page. Having said that, it is only such an ignorant person devoid of a sound mind in a sound body will waste such a time to judge another not on account of intelligent reasoning but on the display of good linguistic skills. When Jose Mourinho came to England, did he speak like Alex Ferguson? He simply communicated and nobody expected him to do otherwise. Why will GJ suddenly stop being a Nigerian of Ijaw extraction and become Queen Elizabeth? Some people were even saying nonsense about his attire on another thread. This is the result of inferiority complex. For your information imposing a particular language on anybody has historically been used as a veritable weapon of enslavement and opression. Have heard of the word 'BIODIVERSITY'? It simply means nature has made us to look different in some ways, including how we communicate. Who told you English language is the only language we should all speak like the Queen? Let me ask you, how well do you speak your native lingua? Do you speak French, Portuguese, Italia, Swahili, Fulfulde, Hausa, German very well. So how will you feel when someone sees you for instance in Spain and you are struggling to communicate and he mocks you for that? This psyche is the reason we have a lot of people today in our nation who speak good English, yet very few actually have minds reformed by the opportunity of having been to school and interacting with the civilised world. Don't let anybody intimidate you. Learn from the Chinese, Japanese, Russians and even Indians. They have become great today because they realised the futility of trying to beat the West unless they made their own rules. And that exactly they did by propagating the best of what they have of which language is paramount. one love. |
I think you should give him audience. I do not know the foundation of your relationship in the first place but you have to realise that even though men are supposed to be the 'supermen', most guys are actually the same little boys in big bodies. I met when my wife when I was a teenager. We were just simple innocent friends and of course no intimacy was involved. So when I grew older, I felt having a wife can't be that easy so I decided to move on, go out there and work hard to find a wife. At least with her out of the way, I will have a clear head. Besides I wanted someone my parents never knew before. As God would have it, the misadventure led to 2 relationships, which obviously didn't go anywhere. By this time it has been close to 3 years since I took off and having secured a decent job with one of the oil majors, I badly needed someone I could settle down with and guess what, it was like my eyes opened and I then appreciated what I had lost. I have at least seen other things and I could compare very well. Goodnews is that I went to her with truck load of apologies, gifts, cards etc. Infact, I think I even shed some tears then, you know that kind thing. By God's design, there was no one else (I actually did not how much she was in love with me and I guess if she had told me then, my useless African man bias would probably has damaged things further) and she was still missing me. The rest is history as we've been married for --- going to 6 years now and with 2 lovely kids, ours is a model of a marriage relationship. Bottomline, give him audience and if you are in love with him, please let him know too. All the best. |
@worry246, Initially I was a bit disturbed by your post but when I looked again at your id, I changed my mind. I see you worry too much. My brother you need not be that harsh. I am not a 419. Far from it. Mind you we are not all 419. It is rather irresponsible to prejudge the good intentions of millions of vibrant, good natured and industrious Nigerians, who are always seeking for legal ways to enhance their quality of life and classify all as 419 just because of the misdemeanor of a handful. Having said that I must express my appreciation to the guys who have provided some useful explanation. Thanks very much. Engineers Develop Single-Wing Twirling Drone February 2010 By Grace V. Jean Lockheed Martin Corp. engineers have unveiled a tiny aerial drone that spins like a falling maple seed. The New Jersey-based developers say the autonomous, single-wing aircraft, called the Samurai, is envisioned as a family of palm-sized unmanned aerial vehicles that can hover, as well as take off and land vertically. The team’s Samurai demonstrator weighs 600 grams and is about 100 centimeters long. At one end of the wing is a disc containing the vehicle’s avionics and electronics, including software that controls the aircraft’s flight via a flap on the wing. “It’s the first single-wing UAV to demonstrate full autonomous flight,” says Kingsley Fregene, principal investigator on the project. The prototype spins around a wooden peg on the ground that launches it into the air. It flies to pre-programmed waypoints and then lands on the ground. Powered by an electric motor, the aircraft rotates 300 times per minute and can carry a payload of 300 grams. “When it’s spinning, it’s stable in the air, unlike a conventional helicopter, which is inherently unstable when it’s hovering,” Fregene says. An on-board camera captures video. Engineers are developing software that synchronizes the images four times per rotation to give operators a stable view from the aircraft. The team has scaled down the vehicle to a bat-sized prototype that can be tossed like a boomerang into flight. Its propulsion system will support an electric motor as well as a micro-pulsejet engine, Fregene says. His team will integrate the non-electric propulsion system into the prototype with a goal of flying it by late summer. The idea is to miniaturize the components into a 10-centimeter version of the aircraft, which has been modeled and flown in simulations. The concept was originally funded in part by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency nano air vehicle program. http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/archive/2010/February/Pages/EngineersDevelopSingle-WingTwirlingDrone.aspx

These guys can't stop amazing/amusing me. They actually thought severing diplomatic ties is a legislative function or that the US will be perturbed by these rants. Bunch of illiterate rascals, who are totally ignorant of how systems should work seating in exalted positions. God save Nigeria. They probably think America will come and 'beg' them with 'Ghana must go bags of wad'. Nitwits!!! |
