"The station and barracks located opposite the local government council secretariat along Ranch road has been operational since 1979 and has since remained so without structural rehabilitation sources say. Pictures taken with the help of spy midgets by this reporter, as he was not allowed to use his camera, show the inhabitable conditions the men expected to maintain law and order reside and operate in with very archaic tools to work with. In the barracks, some roofing sheets have rusted with some caving in while the nettings on the windows have given way for mosquito nets with the fetcher board becoming food for termites and wood insects over the years. lso, further findings reveal there is no computer in the station and the only functional typewriter the division has is located in the DPO’s office and was donated by the Venatius Ikem administration when he was LG Chairman under the then ruling Social Democratic Party (SDP) and has remained the only facility for typing documents in the station. The walls of the offices are already revealing the mud that was used in constructing the barracks apartments as the cement coating is gradually giving way. A few policemen who spoke to this reporter in low tones complained bitterly about their situation and prayed the governor who hails from the local government area and other relevant authorities to look into their plight as it was not fit for human habitation.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s technical adviser, Mitko Dobrev, has been handed a whopping N100 million war chest to rejuvenate the team during the mid-season break. This is one of the major steps taken by the management of the club to keep the team on track towards the realization of the set objectives this season – top of which is winning the league or a continental ticket at the very least. The Bulgarian has been given the approval and necessary financial backing to hire top quality players to strengthen the weak departments in the team after a review of the team’s performance in the first stanza of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) season. FC Ifeanyi Ubah is also billed to play some high-profile international friendly matches during the break. Top on the card is a planned friendly game with English Premier League side, West Ham United FC next week Sunday. Further arrangements are being finalised for another friendly match against a top Chinese Super League side. The self-proclaimed man-god who is leaving French side, PSG after a trophy-laden four seasons will have a stand named after him at the club's base, the Parc Des Princes. Club chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: ‘We tried to do everything for him, because he deserves it. ‘One thing that I forgot to say during my speech was that we are going to name a stand in his name.’ Ibrahimovic, 34, joined PSG in 2012 and has scored 154 goals in 179 matches for the Parisian club. During his time there, he has won four Ligue 1 titles and signed off by lifting the trophy once again, having also finished top of the scoring charts with 38 goals. http://www.hinnews.com/sports/zlatan-ibrahimovic-stand-named-psg-stadium/ |

The United States government has reassured the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government that it would return at least $350m of stolen money from Nigeria. US Secretary of State, John Kerry, made this pledge during the Anti-corruption Summit Plenary at Lancaster House London, United Kingdom. He said, “This money goes somewhere, folks. When I read that tens of billions of dollars were stolen from President (Muhammadu) Buhari’s country by generals and put into other nations, some of it in our country – and we are now working to restore $350 million back, and there’s more to be restored to the people. “And every one of those million dollars that comes back to a country is the opportunity to provide a desk and a chair and school and shelter and health care and meet the needs of nations. That is why we organise ourselves in the world around rule of law and in an effort to try to provide for our citizens,” According to him, criminal activity is a destroyer of nation-states because it contributes to drug trafficking and arms smuggling. Barcelona have lifted the Spanish league title for the second consecutive season and 24th time in their history, but it took until the final day for Luis Enrique’s men to clinch the title . A hat-trick from Luis Suarez, his 38th, 39th and 40th league strikes of the season to win the Pichichi, saw Luis Enrique & Co. secure the three points needed despite Real winning 2-0 over Deportivo La Coruna. Barcelona have been top since a 2-1 away win at Malaga on January 23 but three consecutive losses during April, a drop in form last seen 13 years ago, allowed Real and Atletico the chance to close the gap. Atletico’s title tilt ended last weekend due to a 2-1 loss at Levante, with both Madrid sides now set to face off in the Champions League final, as they did two years ago, on May 28. Suarez becomes the first player other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to finish as top scorer in La Liga since 2008–09, when Diego Forlan scored 32 for Atletico Madrid. Saturday marked the 10th time Barcelona went into the final La Liga matchday with the chance to win the title in their own hands having completed the job on all nine previous occasions, and did so again. In an interview in London yesterday before he returned to Abuja, President Buhari said that the names of corrupt Nigerians will be made public in a speech he intends to deliver on May 29 and that those named will be prosecuted. He also said he was coming after people bombing and destroying pipelines in the Niger Delta; “So far, what has come out, what has been recovered in whatever currency from each ministries, departments and individuals, I intend on the 29th to speak on this because all Nigerians are getting from the mass media because of the number of people arrested either by the EFCC, DSS. But we want to make a comprehensive report on the 29th. On whether the names of those indicted will be published, he said: “Yes, eventually, it has to be done because we want to successfully prosecute them. But you know you cannot go to the courts unless you have documents for prosecution. “People signed for these monies into their personal accounts, their banks gave statements that the money is there, when it came, how much and so on.” Source:-http://www.hinnews.com/news/president-buhari-name-looters-may-29th/ |
The former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, said he refrained from criticising the policies of the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government because resolving the crisis in his party was more important. Speaking in an interview with the Punch on Thursday, George said he refused to comment on the increase in fuel price because the PDP had to remove the speck in its eyes before seeing that of the APC. When asked to comment about the fuel price increase, he said, “No comment. No comment for now. It is not yet time to criticise President Muhammadu Buhari or the All Progressives Congress because we in the PDP are in a crisis and we are trying to rebuild our own house.
