Rome wasn’t built in a day, spare Mahama – Dumelo tells critics Celebrated screen icon and TV personality John Dumelo has urged critics of President John Dramani Mahama to get off his back and give him time to solve the numerous challenges that have bedeviled the country. Speaking to host of Morning Starr Kafui Dey Wednesday on Starr 103.5FM, Dumelo who campaigned for President Mahama ahead of the 2012 elections said the President needs help and not criticism to solve the challenges in the country. “We should just give him [Mahama] time to solve the problems, the problems are there but it's four years, Rome wasn’t built in a day… and if after 2016 the problems are not solved then we know what to do. “But I think a lot of people are putting pressure on him and it’s not as if he doesn’t want to solve the problems, he does so we should just give him time”. Dumelo also revealed that he lost several endorsements from some companies due to his decision to campaign for the President during the 2012 electioneering period. “I actually lost some endorsements deals because I did something for the NDC. I don’t regret it at all,” Dumelo said. Ghana over the last three years has struggled to solve its energy crisis which has led to the collapse of some companies. The country sheds between 450 megawatts and 600 megawatts during peak and off peak periods. The situation has forced some major companies in the country to lay off workers . dhammyg:AMA clears Nigeria election campaign posters The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has begun to remove all Nigerian national election campaign posters from vantage points in the capital city. Speaking to Graphic Online during the removal of one such campaign posters near the Accra Mall, the leader of the task force, Mr George Baba Barikon, said they were acting on the orders of National Security through the direction of the AMA. He said the task force under the advertising unit of the AMA will be removing all sighted Nigerian campaign posters in Accra. Asked if the Accra Mayor knew about the removal of the posters, he answered in the affirmative. When asked if this wouldn't compromise diplomatic relationship between the two countries, Mr Baba said he didn't know why the National Security asked the AMA to remove it and added that all queries should be directed to National Security. With Nigeria National elections due to begin next month, many principal streets of Accra have been inundated with campaign posters of Presidential candidates of mainly the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) political parties. |

Ghana Navy arrest 8 Nigerian pirates, frees seized ship The Ghana Navy on Saturday foiled a pirate attack on a Nigerian cargo vessel, MT Mariam and captured all eight bandits. The pirates were armed, but no one, including a nine-member crew aboard MT Mariam, was injured when the Ghana Navy crew aboard GNS BLIKA effected the arrest. According to the Public Relations Officer of the 1 Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lt Maxwell Asola, all eight pirates are Nigerians. Owners of the hijacked ship alerted the Ghana Navy about the incident and requested for assistance. MV Mariam is scheduled to dock at the port on Sunday. Lt. Maxwell Asola told the Daily Graphic that the arrest took place at about 10:30am and that the owner of the vessel in lodging the complaint, said the pirates told him via telephone that they wanted to use the vessel to carry out an attack and banged the phone. This prompted the owner of MV Mariam to approach the Ghana Navy for assistance
