Crime › Re: Photo Of The Housemaid Who Beat Her Boss To Coma In Lagos by Emeka71(m): 3:52pm On Mar 08, 2018 |
Few hours ago, Website brought you reports of a housemaid, identified simply as Samson who beat her boss to coma in Lagos, after stealing her money and property. Well, the young woman – the housemaid who beat her boss to coma has now been identified as Susan Samson – an indigene of Cross River State. Ok, so just in case you missed it, Doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, are battling to save the life of a civil servant in the state, identified only as Mistura, after she was allegedly attacked by her maid in the Ejigbo area. PUNCH Metro learnt that Mistura had been in a coma since Monday, March 5, 2018, when she was attacked with blended pepper and a wine bottle by the maid, identified as Susan Samson. Our correspondent was told that despite a three-hour surgery on Wednesday, the victim had yet to come round and was in the intensive care unit of LASUTH. It was learnt that Mistura, who taught in a public secondary school in Lagos, had employed Samson on February 4, 2018 to assist her with domestic chores. The 18-year-old suspect was reported to have stolen her boss’ money last Friday and Saturday. After the stolen money was recovered from Samson’s bag, Mistura was said to have alerted the agent who brought her. The Ogoja, Cross River State indigene, in a desperate bid to escape from the house, which Mistura had locked, allegedly poured blended pepper on the boss while she lay on the bed. She then grabbed a champagne bottle and smashed it on the victim’s head repeatedly until she passed out. The suspect was reportedly apprehended by residents who heard the victim’s scream for help. PUNCH Metro was told that the suspect was handed over to policemen from the Ejigbo division. The victim’s husband, who identified himself only as Alhaji Sikiru, said he had gone to work when the incident happened. He said, “An agent brought her to my wife on February 4, 2018. The girl said although she was from Ogoja, Cross River State, she had her primary and secondary education in Ikorodu, Lagos State, where she had lived the better part of her life. “I had gone to work around 6am on Monday when my wife was attacked. But when I was called, I went to make a statement at the Ejigbo Police Station where the girl was being detained. That was where she told me everything that happened. “She said last Friday, my wife accused her of stealing some money. Again on Saturday, there was an allegation she stole another money. I was surprised because my wife did not tell me that the maid she employed was stealing her things. “After I left the house on Monday, my wife asked her to buy balm for her down the street. While she was away, my wife went to her room and found the stolen money in her bag, including some other items which she (Samson) stole from her shop. “My wife called the agent that brought her and asked him to come over to the house. The agent immediately called the girl to know what happened. The girl said she didn’t know why she (Mistura) called him. “At this time, she had become suspicious. So, when she got back to the house, she went to her bag and discovered that the stolen money and other items had been recovered by my wife.” He said Mistura, while awaiting the agent, locked up the two gates in the house and kept the keys. She was said to have lain on the bed. “When the girl saw that her secret was about to be exposed, she wanted to escape. On discovering that the pedestrian and drive gates had been locked, she became desperate. “She went to the kitchen, took a bowl of blended pepper, and poured it on my wife on the bed. My wife could not see again, but she groped to the main gate. She started calling for help because she could not also open the gate. “The girl went inside the house and found a bottle of champagne, which I had kept for an occasion. She smashed it on my wife’s head five times. And she collapsed. “Some residents, who had gathered outside the gate after hearing my wife’s call for help, caught her as she tried to escape. They also found my wife in a pool of blood and rushed her to a hospital,” he added. He noted that during a visit of the police to the house, they found more stolen items in the suspect’s room. Alhaji Sikiru, while expressing fear over the condition of his wife, said he hoped she would make it out alive. “She lost a lot of blood and I had to get six pints of blood yesterday (Tuesday). Because her blood level was low, the doctors gave her four pints so she could go through a surgery which started from 1am and ended around 4.30am on Wednesday. The surgery didn’t bring out anything. She is still in a coma. “My wife is in the intensive care unit of LASUTH. Her brain has collapsed and has been removed from the body and kept somewhere. Her kidney is already packing up. I hope she makes it out alive,” he added. A source told PUNCH Metro that the couple had a disagreement late 2017 over the issue of getting a maid as the husband was against the idea. The source said the dispute was so intense that some relatives had to wade in. “The woman has high blood pressure and her personal doctor told the husband in January that the woman’s BP was still high but she said she would be better if he allowed her to have a maid. That was when the man succumbed. But see what it has caused,” she said. The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said it was a case of attempted murder. He said, “The said Susan Samson suspected that her boss had discovered some items she stole and hid in her room. She subsequently mixed a large quantity of pepper in water and poured it on the woman’s face to render her defenceless. “She subsequently hit her head repeatedly with a big bottle of wine which grievously harmed the woman. The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has decried this act wickedness and ordered a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution of the case.” The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Professor Wale Oke, said the victim was receiving treatment at the hospital. He said, “She had a surgery yesterday, which was successful. She is, however, not out of the woods yet. She is still in a coma. We have to wait for the brain to heal from the injuries.” Source: PUNCH See More @ http://www.yabaleftonline.ng/photo-housemaid-beat-boss-coma-lagos/?utm_source=notification&utm_medium=referral
I love that; counter-attack ; instead of madam beating house-maid to a coma; the thing went the other way round. |

Webmasters › Re: Are Nigerian Bloggers Expected To Pay Tax? by Emeka71(m): 5:02pm On Mar 07, 2018 |
deturla: Are Bloggers Expected to Pay Tax (Part 2)
SHOULD BLOGGERS BE TAXED?
The answer is YES and NO. We could look at this from the angle of the LAW and from the angle of the determination on the basis of what ‘mode’ of blogging is in perspective. The first question to ask is are certain bloggers hobby bloggers or professional bloggers.
Empirically speaking, bloggers and freelancers and webmasters and other people who offer specialized online services in different genres may be considered owners of their own businesses, and or people who get paid for using their talent and or acquired skill.
Bloggers and webmasters usually earn income from advertising and from selling their services. Other online professionals, such as virtual assistants, social media strategists, SEO specialists, content writers and website designers usually earn income from selling their services. In this case Bloggers may be considered as self-employed individuals.
It is true that in Nigeria, the Federal Inland Revenue Service is still battling with making e-commerce generally and blogging a taxable means of earning income – there are a lots of issues trying to establish whether blogging is seen as a hobby or as a professional means of doing business. But it is also important to note that bloggers do native advertising of company’s products.
For example on Linda Ikeji’s blog, a lot of advertising is done for a lot of companies ranging from small businesses to multinational corporations who leverage on the traffic on her page to promote their business concerns. On that count, it will not be fair not to consider that a taxable income, since we have companies whose revenue are stemmed from advertisement itself.
Further, freelance writers and online professionals may argue that their services are immaterial and therefore cannot be taxed. A blog can be seen as a publishing company of some sort, just like a media house which owns print and electronic publishing platforms. In that case, the argument for it being taxable carries the day. Besides, there are offline strategic partnerships that ensue from just promoting a business, from where a blogger earns big.
There is also the direct advertisement angle of blogging. This is a complete taxable income and incurs some tax liability too.
So yes, bloggers are required to pay tax. But that isn’t all there is to it. there are few pertinent questions and clearances that are critical to the understanding of this discourse.
Let’s get to the difference between a professional and a Hobby blogger:
The truth remains that blogging is a painstaking, sometimes difficult venture that requires consistency, persistence, and hard research as well as passion. A lot of people consider blogging to be somewhat of a pastime, but there are levels when it crosses the line and becomes a full time and rewarding business. However, this takes time and nurturing.
In the Companies income tax act, Section 9:
PART II
Imposition of tax and profits chargeable
Charge of tax (1) Subject to the provisions of this Act, the tax shall, for each year of assessment, be payable at the rate specified in subsection (1) of section 40 of this Act upon the profits of any company accruing in, derived from, brought into, or received in, Nigeria in respect of‐
(a) any trade or business for whatever period of time such trade or business may have been carried on;
(b) rent or any premium arising from a right granted to any other person for the use or occupation of any property; and where any payment on account of such a rent as is mentioned in this paragraph is made before the expiration of the period to which it relates and is included for the purposes of this paragraph in the profits of a company, then, so much of the payment as relates to any period beginning with the date on which the payment is made shall be treated for these purposes as accruing to the company proportionately from day to day over the last‐mentioned period or over the five years beginning with that date, whichever is the shorter;
(c) dividends, interests, royalties, discounts, charges or annuities;
(d) any source of annual profits or gains not falling within the preceding categories;
(e) any amount deemed to be income or profit under a provision of this Act or, with respect to any benefit arising from a pension or provident fund, of the Personal Income Tax Act;
(f) fees, dues and allowances (wherever paid) for services rendered;
While this may be seem confusing to a lot of bloggers out there, simply put this explanation this way, income tax will be levied on any form of trade or business for as long as the business has been carried on over years.
Therefore it is important to ascertain whether business transactions are being consummated, services are being provided, direct advertisement are being done from an blogging platform. This can be used to address the issue on whether a blogger is an hobby blogger or a professional blogger cum business owner.
The following characterization helps to draw the line, however fine, between blogging for fun and making money out of it:
Hobby bloggers do it mainly for fun and leisure, not necessarily for the money, although money can also come in through Google Adsense and traffic, but it will be limited. On the other hand, business bloggers want to make money through it.
Hobby bloggers may or may not have specific area of specialization when it comes to topics, but professionals usually focus on niches where they feel more comfortable to blog about, like lifestyle, sport, health, entertainment, politics, etc.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Vs Manchester City (0 - 3) On 1st Of March 2018 by Emeka71(m): 5:19pm On Mar 01, 2018 |
Omooba77: Arsenal and Manchester City will face each other for the second time in five days on Thursday in the Premier League as manager, Arsene Wenger looks to avenge a Carabao Cup final defeat against Pep Guardiola’s Premier league leaders. Both clubs played at Wembley on Sunday, but the Gunners came off second best as Captain, Vincent Kompany inspired City to a 3-0 win to give Guardiola first trophy in English football.
Learn more Wenger’s men must forget their cup disappointment quickly and turn their attentions back to the Premier League, with their top-four hopes hanging by a thread. Nacho Monreal is a doubt for the North London club after being substituted off early in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final due to injury. Sead Kolasinac, who replaced the Spaniard, could start against City at the Emirates, but it depends on whether Wenger will continue with the three-man defence which started on Sunday, or would revert to a back four. Arsenal now sit 10 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand, and anything less than a win against City, will likely leave Europa League glory as the only route back for the Gunners into the Champions League next season. However, manager, Pep Guardiola has little worries to his squad as striker, Gabriel Jesus could come into contention after almost two months out due to knee injury, though Raheem Sterling is doubtful. Fabian Delph remains suspended. Oleksandr Zinchenko or Danilo could feature with Benjamin Mendy out for long term due to knee injury. City’s number one goalkeeper Ederson should retain his starting role despite Claudio Bravo’s Carabao Cup final assist for Sergio Aguero, while Fernandinho is out after picking a hamstring strain. Possible Arsenal starting XI: Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Ramsey, Wilshere, Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Aubameyang. Possible Manchester City starting XI: Ederson, Walker, Kompany, Otamendi, Zinchenko, Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Sane, Aguero Arsenal shall surely loose to Man-city tonight at (away over 1.5) ; my prediction is Arsenal 1 v 2 Man-city. |
Car Talk › Re: 10 Ways To Save Fuel For Your Car by Emeka71(m): 4:52pm On Mar 01, 2018 |
AutoReportNG: We have heard of many ways we can use to save fuel, we have read many tips and we wonder what's really draining the fuel despite all, the fuel keeps going down.
Don’t you just hate it when your car’s fuel gauge starts warning? Have you ever seen motorists running around with a Jerrycan to the gas station to buy more fuel? Don’t wait until your car stops moving or until your fuel gauge starts warning. When driving a car, not only is it important to constantly fuel your car, but it is also imperative that you keep monitoring the fuel gauge to find out how much fuel you have left in the tank.
1. Accelerate smoothly The perfect way to save fuel is to travel at a steady speed. We recommend a speed of 50mph, and in the highest gear so if you are patient while driving, you will make fewer trips to the gas station in a month.
It’s unavoidable to overtake sometimes but there’s no point accelerating past a car to simply be in front of it at the next set of lights.
2. Don’t push the accelerator too far down This is not just because of what gear you are in. You may be in a high gear and traveling at a steady speed but if you are pushing the accelerator down a long way to avoid changing into a lower gear (for example into third from fourth) then you’re using more fuel not less. This is of course if you are driving an automatic car, the car will do a better job than you of choosing which gear to be in so it’s not a problem for an automatic.
3. Turn the air-conditioning off Whereas it can get very humid in African countries or in the summer for some, it’s enticing to drive around while the air-con is on. The problem with air-con being on all the time while you drive is that it uses quite a bit of fuel, so we’d advise you turn it off when you can and drive with your windows down if it’s not raining or when you are driving around town.
4. Check your tyre pressure regularly Please note that the lower the tyre pressure of your car is, the more fuel the car needs to move it down the road. We recommend that you take 5 minutes every two weeks to check the tires and if you aren’t sure what pressure they should be, you can normally find the figures near the lock inside the driver’s door or drive to the nearest gas station and have your tyre pressures checked.
5. Don’t carry unnecessary weight Your car needs more fuel to move around more weight. So just as you wouldn’t wear a heavy backpack unless if you really had to, don’t leave stuff laying around in the boot of your car. The heavier the item, the more fuel your car will consume
6. Don’t drive during rush hours I wonder if this is applicaable in Nigeria, Lagos especially. Few things are as frustrating as being stuck in traffic jam. Not only is it an expensive way of travelling, every time you start and stop in traffic, your car needs first gear and a huge amount of fuel to get moving again. Second gear is worse. The best solution is to not travel at all if you can during the rush hours of the day. If you have to travel in traffic a lot, then consider buying a hybrid car which uses less fuel in town than a petrol or diesel car.
7. Service your car regularly The quality of your engine oil does indeed affect your fuel economy. Always make it a point to service your car regularly with genuine and good quality engine oil. Always make sure to change the oil in your car according to your vehicles maintenance schedule to save fuel.
8. Remove the roof rack off your car Whereas most people like to have roof racks on their cars even when they don’t necessarily use them most of the time, this increases drag and makes your car use more fuel. If you can’t do away with a roof rack, get the latest roof rack which is easy to fit and remove such that you can stow them away when you’re not using them.
9. Close your windows and sunroof if driving on the highway When you are driving on the highway and are moving more quickly, the shape of your car is very important. Car designers call it aerodynamics and make lots of effort to reduce ‘drag’ and make the car go as sleek as possible. Anything that makes noise while your car is moving is consuming more fuel. You can’t do much about the design of your car but you can avoid making it consume more fuel on the highway by not leaving the windows or sunroof open. Use the air vents or air-con if it gets too hot.
10. Make fewer errands or trips Did you know that when you drive a car that has been parked all day, the engine is cold and it uses a lot of fuel for the first five miles? To save fuel, why not combine all your daily trips into one big trip? Sometimes, of course, this is not possible but try to avoid making unnecessary trips.
There you have it. The top 10 tips to help you save some cash on that fuel money every month.
