SibaKeAkwaibom:
The New Automobile Assembling Plant In A'Ibom Has Shown Gov Emmanuel's Passion In Job Creation - Ufot Ebong

Ehn

The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Technical Matters and Due Process, Elder Ufot Ebong has stated that the Automobile Assembling Plant in Akwa Ibom State will create massive employment of about 2000 opportunities for Akwa Ibom people, which is the priority of the Udom Emmanuel led administration.

Elder Ebong made this known while on the inspection of the Automobile plant in Itu earlier on Friday, 22nd August 2020.

The factory which is one of the Industrialization strides of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom is the first factory who's ground breaking ceremony was done by him shortly after his inauguration into office in 2015 according to the SSA, Bureau of Technical Matters, will not only boost the economy of the State, but also an answered prayer for majority of Akwa Ibomites.

It could be recalled that as of June 2015, Governor Udom Emmanuel performed the ground breaking ceremony of the project as effort to reduce to the barest minimum, the unemployment rate in the State. This, he ventured into attracting foreign investors and giving them the necessary cooperation to thrive.

"We stand firm and committed to provide jobs for the teeming unemployed people of Akwa Ibom State. The site will represent first chapter in the book of industrialization we have opened today. The Automobile Plant will be the first in the South South region, and one of the biggest in the country who's target is to become the best and biggest in Africa.

This is one of the fruits of the Foreign Direct Investment, a company with the name Mimshac Transportation Technologies Plant in partnership with Merkavin Transportation Technologies Company.” Governor Udom Emmanuel said this during the ground breaking ceremony.

The factory which according to the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Mr. Valentino Okorie, is in partnership with an Israeli Company, Merkavin Automobile Technologies Company. The factory which is to commence operations in the next couple of months is expected to run on shifts with over 5000 staff per day.

Speaking with newsmen, Mr. Valentino said that in few weeks, twenty (20) indigenes will be sent to Israel to be trained on automobile assembling, and will in turn return to the state to produce vehicles as well as impacting same knowledge on others that will be working in the factory.

He also stated that work at the site was delayed because of the ravaging Covid-19 Pandemic as borders were shut down preventing expertriates and containers from coming into the country.

The company which will start a commercial transportation scheme, an intra city route, inter city routes and interstate routes in the country with central monitoring booth to monitor all buses and stations in real time is expected to boost employment in the state.

Mr Okorie further maintained that the factory will be ready within 12-16 weeks, stating that the vehicles which are going to be manufactured and assembled in the State are products of Israeli based technology which can stand the taste and test of time. He further added that the factory has been in existence in Israel for more than 50years now.

Describing the quality of vehicles to be produced, Okorie said that the factory has unique technology building stainless, non-rust materials which can stand the test of time with regards to road and terrain of the environment and would only require engine maintenance if need be.

Buildings like the administrative block, site clinic , the entrance to the site have been completed, pharmacy, etcetera etcetera. Part of the perimeter fence has been done as well as the lighting system, car park and will also have a recreational centre, refectory and residential homes.

" We received our last consignments on Friday night, so I can authoritatively say that everything is on ground to kick-start operations, but we can do that when the place is officially commissioned by the government. All materials are available on the sites and they are awaiting coupling.

Governor Udom Emmanuel has been doing everything unique to ensure that the factory thrive, and we cannot in anyway take this cooperation for a joke. To reciprocate this gesture, we are doing all that is needed to create massive employment for the people of the State. With the factory, not less than 5000 direct and indirect jobs will be created for Nigerians, and a greater percentage of this will be Akwa Ibomites."

The CEO had also harped on easing the stress of Transportation Companies on securing good vehicles for their operations, maintaining that with the factory, this unforeseen circumstance will become a thing of the past.

ENTERTAINMENT PROJECT
...TARGETS DECEMBER 2020 FOR NEW SHOPPING MALL

By: Lawrence Ekong

Akwa Ibom State Government has begun the remodelling and reconstruction of Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Complex into a functional world class shopping mall with international franchise, stores and premium lifestyle centers.

The Commissioner for Information, Sir Charles Udoh made this known yesterday, while on an inspection visit to the facility to assess the level of work so far done on the project.

While expressing satisfaction with the level of work so far, Sir Charles Udoh who was accompanied on the assessment tour by the Chairman, Technical Committee on Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, Mr. Gabriel Ukpe, stated that Governor Udom Emmanuel remains committed to uplifting the standard of living of Akwa Ibom people through projects capable of stimulating the economy, especially as part of Post Covid-19 Economic Reconstruction Plans of his administration.

The Commissioner said that the mall expected to come alive before December this year, would create job opportunities for the youths in the state, increase the state's GDP and enhance manpower development, which he noted are cardinal to the Completion Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

He expressed optimism that with the pace of the remodelling work on the project, the mall will be completed in record time.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Technical Committee on Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, Mr. Gabriel Ukpe said, the project is one of Governor Udom Emmanuel's relentless efforts at making Akwa Ibom an investor's haven.

Mr. Gabriel Ukpe added that the Governor is a visionary leader, with the drive to attract foreign direct investments to the State, which he said is paying off, as more investors now throng the state seeking various business opportunities.

He therefore urged Akwa Ibom citizens to seize the numerous opportunities that abound in the state to better their lots.

Conducting the duo round the facility, the Chief Executive Officer of Median Construction Development Nigerian Limited Mr. Olumide Akinsanya, hinted that as partners to Akwa Ibom State Government in the development of the the Ibom Tropicana Mall, under a Public Private Partnership, ( PPP ) arrangement, his company is saddled with the responsibilities of redesigning and remodeling the complex into a functional mall with an additional mandate to occupy and manage the facility.

He intimated that the facility's anchor, the Market Square, is expected to commence operations as soon as the remodelling of the complex is completed.

The Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Complex is located at the Central Business District of Uyo, the State capital.

It was left uncompleted despite huge resources sunk into it by the immediate past administration.

Governor Udom Emmanuel leadership style is second to none in Nigeria

PoliticsAkwa Ibom Coconut Refinery/plantation: A New Cash Cow by Emelcee(op): 8:20am On Jun 24, 2020
This is the first time a state government has dedicated serious resources (time, money, intellectual and physical strength) in diversifying her state economy particularly through planting of coconuts in great magnitude.

Today the State Information Management Team visited the 11-thousand-hectare St Gabriel coconut plantation farm located at Eastern Obolo/Mkpat Enin

With the rapid growth of over thousands of coconut trees, in no distant time, Akwa Ibomites will no longer travel to other states to purchase coconut oil rather we'll be major exporters of coconuts and its products across the country. These coconut products ranges from oil, cream, butter, milk to smoothies. Even the coconut shells for different crafts.

It could be recalled that in February, the Ministry of Agriculture came in and took the sample of the soil for test and fertiliser that matches the soil was blended and applied, and that is what led to the rapid growth of the coconut.

PoliticsApc Chairman Disowned Over Alleged Fraud In Akwa Ibom by Emelcee(op): 12:09pm On Jun 21, 2020
Again, we members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Youth Caucus have risen to question the many alleged nefarious activities of our acclaimed Chairman, Iniobong John.

We have noted with displeasure how the bearer uses our identity and envied name to make money for his ill interest, without the authority of the entire Caucus and how he has offered himself a tool in the workshop of Senator Godswill Akpabio, to sow discord among other members of the Party.

We recall from our archives that Akpabio who is now his chiefest sponsor was not part of the Party when the Youth Caucus was formed, but Nsima Ekere whom he has been tuned to war against.

We would not want to go into details of how Akpabio whom Nsima Ekere supported with dozens of contracts and footing during campaigns is now allegedly using the acclaimed Caucus Chairman against Nsima, or how much divide he has created between loyalists of Nsima Ekere.

We however urge Chieftains and Stakeholders of the APC to tell us if the Youth Caucus is a faction or branch of the NDDC. Let them say when the Caucus became a consultant to NDDC to necessitate a writing in defense of IMC as written by Iniobong John.

We call on Obong Umana Okon Umana, Don Etiebet, Ita Enang and the State Party Chairman, Ini Okopido to explain what the Youth Caucus was meant to do in the first place. Was it created then to enable it function for Akpabio today? Was it meant to be a nomenclature headed by a single nonentity for the fill-up of one person’s stomach? Was it not meant to carry everyone along? These are all questions begging for answers.
It would be recalled that Obong Okon Umana had at a time described the likes of John as a social media prostitute who write all sorts of articles on various platforms using the APC name to draw comparisons they are not sent to do.

We restate that Iniobong John has been on a self-sent mission from the onset and has never represented our thoughts and ideas. He goes about as a disgrace who picks from wherever bin to eat without recourse to the adverse effect of his eating spree.
We call on right-thinking members of the public to bear us witness to this exoneration.

HealthUkpong-udo, Akwa Ibom Lawmaker Celebrates Three Sets Of Twins Within One Year by Emelcee(op): 1:07pm On Jun 06, 2020
With only a few days to his first anniversary as the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency’s representative at the National Assembly, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, has celebrated the birth of yet another set of twins born to a member of his constituency.

Helen Emmanuel Sampson, an indigene of Ibaha Esin, Ini Local Government Area and a beneficiary of the ‘Macaire Mother and Child Care Programme,’
this week delivered a set of twins at the General Hospital, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo.
This brought the number of twin births supported by the programme to three in the 7 months of the programme so far.

In line with his promise, the Initiator of the programme, Obong Ukpong-udo was on hand as always (through his personal Assistant on Community Health Services, Theresa Nde), to welcome the infants with a handsome amount of cash as their first gifts.

By providing pre- and post-natal cash and material requirements as incentives to pregnant women within the constituency to submit to professional medical care, the ‘Macaire Mother and Child Care Programme’ has lived up to its billing in the eradication of maternal and infant mortality in Akwa Ibom state.

Following the latest delivery, about 90 women from the constituency have been encouraged to enrol and attend the antenatal clinic. From this number, there have been 55 new born babies, including 3 sets of twins delivered since the inception of the programme.

The Programme which is still ongoing despite the menace of the COVID-19 pandemic, is bankrolled by the Lawmaker and is absolutely free. It provides basic supplies preparatory to childbirth and afterwards, including a welfare stipend, hospital cards and medical consumables. Ukpong-udo continues to invite pregnant women in the area to leverage this noble initiative to receive professional medical care, for their good and that of their unborn babies.

A Priest with The African Church, Rev Richard Peters has kicked against the ongoing comparison between the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the present, Governor Udom Emmanuel, saying that it is too early and unnecessary to start such media war in the State.

The clergyman was reacting to a write up tagged "Between Akpabio and his sleeping successor" credited to one Iniobong John an obsoleted Chairman of Akwa Ibom APC Youth Caucus and circulated by some section of Senator Akpabio's media hirelings.

According to Rev Peters, "There seem to be no end in sight on the irrationality of Akpabio’s media hirelings who take delight at lashing inadvertently on the present administration for no just cause. The low thinking gullible minded writers who do just as they are told for their stomach’s sake without having a rethink or flashback at history thus, become idle tools of hatred and jealousy in the devil’s workshop"

The clergyman wondered why Senator Akpabio couldn't instruct his media hirelings to publicize his activities as a Minister of the Niger Delta.

"So, rather than educating people on Akpabio’s activities as a Minister, his achievements and proposals, they prefer to compare their demi god with Governor Emmanuel.

What beats one’s imagination in this whole contrast is the unknown purpose behind the show. Is Akpabio contesting an election as Governor again? Does he want to return to the Hilltop Mansion? Why then the envy? Why is he instituting this media war with his successor? Or does he want to force open his fraudulent activities and funds diversion records?"

He warned that they should not post something that will ignite media reactions against Senator Akpabio, "Akpabio and his media pupils should not push the sleeping Lions to roar back in anger with logs of folders and files of his shameful and uncouth misappropriation gleaned from his 8-year reign as Governor."

The African Church Priest on his Facebook timeline, Rev'd Richard Peters, further asked "Or how do you explain giving approval for the release of N72billion naira for the construction of only 3km of the 25km Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road? How do you explain fully releasing over N150 billion for the uncompleted Tropicana? How do you explain the release of N19.5 billion for the uncompleted Etebi-Enwang road that was originally valued at N5billion naira? How do you explain the release of billions of naira meant for the construction of the 8-lane Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard on papers whereas in reality the road is 4-lane?

Should one mention the N42 billion paid for Ibom Specialty Hospital he left uncompleted or the N25 billion fully paid yet uncompleted Four Point by Sheraton?

What about the uncompleted Airport project? What happened to the N18 billion terminal building? Is the International soccer pitch (stadium) worth the reported $360 million dollars it allegedly gulped? Of what use today is the E-library to the common Akwa Ibomite? And out of the over 3trillion naira that accrued to the state in Akpbio’s terrain, how much investment dividends do the state derive today?

Is it not true that Akpabio left the state with huge debt, uncompleted white elephant projects and over N30billion pension arrears despite huge revenue?

If 10% of what the previous government spent in collecting awards from all northern Emirates, Nigerian Universities and all groups that had awards to sell; the newspaper advertorials that heralded those awards and birthdays; if the money spent on the ill-fated Tropicana and the monies looted on the Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road, Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard, Etebi-Ewang road, Use-Ikot Amama road, the International stadium, permanent terminal building at the airport etc when the price of crude oil was over $100 a barrel and a dollar was exchanging for between 197 to 200 naira, were ploughed into revitalizing education and health care with all the amenities, will the present government be labouring to reconstruct 7 General Hospitals with modern health care equipment or building school blocks?

The volume of money announced and unannounced which the past government gulped, if had been used judiciously would have no doubt-built castles in the air.

The then Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had in 2013 given the federal government allocation to Akwa Ibom State as $1.7 billion (N260 billion), adding that the state ranked among the top ten highest recipients of the federal allocations. But in 2018, the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) review showed that Akwa Ibom State received N143.6 billion which is even lesser now, no thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Between an administration which promised 31 industries in 31 Local Government Area with full monetary allocation collected without delivering a single one and the one which promised to industrialize the state, and has done so with its impact reaching the citizenry at a time as this, which has the interest of the people at heart more?

Is it not true that the Rice Mill, Fertilizer blending plant, Metering Company, Kings Flour Mill, Jubilee Syringe Factory and other industries which have given jobs to the unemployed Akwa Ibom youths are visible for confirmation? Was Akpabio not present at the commissioning of these industries and did he not testify of their productiveness, standard and credibility? What then is the basis of this comparison?

In the face of these distractions, Governor Emmanuel who has remained undaunted has kept his focus on bettering the value of the people’s lives and by extension, the state’s economy which is even evidenced in 7th position we now occupy among those with high IGR nationwide.

Small scale enterprises are thriving better than has ever happened courtesy of the push given by Governor Emmanuel to promote self-sufficiency and reduce total reliance on white-collar jobs, and these SMEs have subsequently become employers of labour.

Investors today are lining up for the state because of the trust for the name, Udom Emmanuel. The number of industries presently operational in the state and those upcoming are testaments of the peace and friendly ambience provided by the present government.

Can Akwa Ibom not tell how much of killing, maiming and kidnapping we experienced during the last administration? Five years after coming on board, we can boast of safety of lives and properties, peace, more investments, accommodation of the opposition party players, zero intimidation, zero kidnapping spree and zero countless killings which characterized the previous administration so much that people can now sleep with their two eyes closed. Even those who fled the state are returning to attest to this.

Has Gov. Emmanuel not fulfilled his campaign promises? Yes, he has. No one is unaware of the fact that the Governor met with recession almost immediately he took over the reins of power. Then came the distractions of Tribunal court cases yet, from his first term 5-point agenda to his 8-point agenda which he is undertaking currently, the State leader has performed with results to show for it.

Why is Akpabio then trying to ridicule the hard-earned reputation and effort of this administration for no just cause? What does he really want?

It is noteworthy that Governor Udom Emmanuel is not seeking applause in his development-drive for the people, neither is he in competition with anybody but is on a serious committed and calculated process of transformation. As such, cannot be distracted by criticisms which lack merit.

Because he believes that government is a continuum, all of Akpabio’s uncompleted projects have been captured by Gov. Udom, unlike Akpabio who abandoned Attah’s former projects. Unfinished roads and structures as well as the free education and health policies have all been sustained.

Akpabio and his urchins should stay away from opening an unwarranted gap of abuse and attack on the present government who is no match for their deflated ego.

Governor Emmanuel, unlike Akpabio came into government already-made with a myriad of investments and luxuries, and doesn’t need to enrich himself with funds meant for the communal good of the state to feel on top of the world.

As a matter of fact, the best time to compare who did better is not now but after the expiration of the present government’s tenure. Comparison is confirmed when two objects of equal weights are weighed on a balance hence, comparing an 8-year-old government with a 5-year-old one is totally unreasonable.

They should rather wait till 2023, after the expiration of Governor Emmanuel’s tenure before bringing out their scale of comparison.

Then will they be able to tell who served better and, while they wait, they should channel their energy and resources into encouraging Governor Emmanuel, and desist from Ph.D (Pull him Down) fever."

Justice Archibong reduced the conditions from N3m to N200,000 with one surety, a prominent indigene or one doing business within the jurisdiction of the Court.

He held that the surety must produce two passport-sized photographs and swear to affidavit of means and upon fulfillment, be released from the DSS custody.

‘My first surprise was the freshness of Ibom Air aircraft: very fresh, very clean, very clear leg room, very comfortable seats, feels like ‘tear-rubber’, very friendly crew and uniquely packaged and presented snacks in State colours of orange, green and white.

‘I am very much at home with the Nigerian aviation industry, dating back to 1975, when I boarded my first flight from Calabar to Lagos with Nigeria Airways. As Aviation Correspondent of Newswatch Magazine in the mid-80s, I went to work at the Lagos airport virtually everyday, wrote extensively about the industry and has remain a close watcher of the aviation sector. In 44 years of flying around the world, with commercial airlines, private jets, military carriers (C-130), this is the newest and freshest aircraft, I have flown in Nigeria.

‘And then, just as scheduled, at exactly 9:00am, Ibom Air taxied off the Apron unto the runway. Phew! It was seamless. Take off: smooth. Flight proper: smooth. Landing: smooth’.

Joseph Joseph Ekpeyong also recently wrote on Facebook: “No kidding, Ibom Air is really everything they've said about it. On time, extremely friendly officials, smooth check in and boarding procedures, and to cap it off, they give the takeoff instructions in Ibibio. I've always been looking forward to hearing Ibibio from a cabin crew. I have no reason to ever take another airline to Uyo”.

Retired American business executive and chemical engineer, Jack Welch had the story of Akwa Ibom State in mind when he said that "great leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion". Governor Udom Emmanuel by establishing Ibom Air has given flesh to the power, courage and foresight.

Akwa Ibom is the first state in the whole of Nigeria and indeed Africa to run a commercial airline business. Ibom Air struts the Nigerian skies today standing as a testament to visionary leadership and an acute determination to prove that what was once thought to be impossible can be made possible. The airline has proven the cynics wrong and showed the world that a viable commercial airline can be achieved. The choice of smart new planes and its management model has been a masterstroke, accounting for its ability to break even on every flight. Proudly, Ibom Air continues to operate the lowest average fleet age amongst Nigeria’s airlines, a fleet strategy to be a world-class African regional airline.

Recently, the airline took delivery of it’s fourth Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft, the first of two recently purchased Bombardier CRJ 900 aircrafts, which is clearly in line with the fleet expansion strategy of the company. With this addition, Ibom Air fleet grows to four aircrafts.

Ibom Air’s newest plane records another first within the Nigerian aviation space. Ibom Air’s latest modern fleet of Bombardier CRJ 900 aircrafts all come fitted with High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters. HEPA filters are high-intensity filters that do not just filter dust, but effectively capture greater than 99% of the airborne microbes in the filtered air, including microscopic particles such as bacteria and viruses. Cabin air in HEPA equipped aircraft generally pass through the filters 20-30 times per hour, removing contaminants and greatly enhancing the quality of air in the cabin. A big first in Nigeria.

Since it commenced regular passenger services on 07-Jun-2019 with services to Lagos and Abuja from its base at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, the airline has shown clearly that it is here to stay and expand. In January, Seven months after the commencement of commercial flight, Ibom Air has recorded over 97 percent scheduled reliability as well as about 3,000 operated flights.

The performance of Ibom Air has surpassed scheduled projections in the areas of scheduled reliability, on-time performance and on-time departure, the remaining three percent according to Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, Rtd, chairman of Ibom Airport Authority is due to weather and VIP travels.

Worthy also of note is that Ibom Air celebrated its passenger number 50,000 within just 100 days of hitting the skies.

As the the lockdown occasioned by the Covid -19 pandemic eases, Ibom Air will commence limited regional flight operation which will start with selected routes, including from Nigeria to Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) to Douala in Cameroon and Kinshasa (Congo) for the Central African route. The West African routes will include Accra, Dakar, Conakry, Abidjan and Monrovia.

Without the usual defeaning razzmatazz and media hyperboles that politicians employ to massage their egos, there is a gentleman in the southern part of Nigeria that once the passion, the strategy and the execution is right, nothing is impossible.

His name is Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State. In the last five years, he has set the oil rich state on a pedestal that will take many of its contemporaries time and craft to beat. From aviation to sports, health and critical infrastructure, the stories of growth and development are reverberating across the land.

For a leader who treads where others dread, Governor Udom Emmanuel has shown with his investments in Ibom Air, that greater things can happen in Nigeria with the right leadership.

Who would have believed few years ago that Akwa Ibom could suddenly be a state with not one, not two, but three standard rice mills? Governor Udom Emmanuel is not one who makes noise about his projects. He allows those developments to echo his strides.
A visit to Ibiono Ibom local government area shows that Akwa Ibom is gradually realising that vision, the vision by a Governor of ensuring that the state produces 85 percent of staple food it consumes.

Behold the Ibom Golden Rice fields in Ikot Esen/Utit Obio about 7 kilometers from the council headquarters in Okoita. The rice field is complimented by yet another rice processing mill located at Utit Obio community both in Ibiono Ibom local government area. This public-private initiative between Akwa Ibom State government and Rice Farmers in Ibiono-Ibom has seen the government equip the farmers with cultivation tools, improved rice seedlings, as well as ensure the workability of the Rice Processing Mill, which the state recently supplied with a standard power supply plant.

According to the Chairman, Ibiono Ibom Rice Farmers Association, Mr. Emmanuel Usua, rice is harvested after a period of between 3 and 4 months and with the efforts of government, which included complete clearing of the land for the farmers, the harvest is bound to be bountiful.

Usua who is also the President of Ibiono Ibom Millers Multi Purpose Cooperative Society, explained that during the total lockdown in the state, Ibom Golden Rice, which had earlier in December complemented the efforts of the two other rice mills, came in handy with rice consumed during the yuletide. The Ibiono Ibom rice also enabled Governor Udom Emmanuel to deliver thousands of bags of rice to over 3000 villages in the state, as well as other ethnic nationals and interest groups.

The newly installed rice mill is managed by the Ibiono Ibom Rice Millers Cooperative Society and has a capacity to produce 1.5 tonnes of rice per hour.
