I can recall my childhood days when my mum told my sibblings and I that if we swallow orange seed, tree will grow out from our head .Was also told that if you lose a tooth, turn it around your head 7x and throw it on the roof of the house....if not it will not grow back ![]() Or the infamous football match between Nigeria and India....stories of the India team winning 100-0 because they use jazz/voodo and the ball turning to Lion to scare the Nigeria GK away They were all lies |
1 terabyte per second... Otuocha ![]() |
The world is just beginning to discover5G but China is already looking towards the sixth generation (6G). The foundations are already laid, and in the opinion of some experts, 6G speed could reach one terabyte per second, or approximately 8,000 times the speed of 5G. If this work seems early given that 5G is still in its infancy, recall that it takes about 10 years to develop a new generation network. Knowing that the first steps of 6G are in plans for 2030, the timing seems quite logical. In theory, 6G networks can offer speed of up to one terabyte per second, or 8,000 gigabits per second, according to Dr. Mahyar Shirvanimoghaddam, of the University of Sydney. These flows would open the door to entirely new types of uses and revolutionise the relationships humans have with technology. The 6G era could, for example, offer new perspectives in terms of brain-computer interfaces. For example, it would be possible to use devices “via our brain,” he said. To this end, the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology recently launched preparatory work for the development of the future network. China has also set up two working groups to oversee research around 6G. One of the groups is made up of executives from the sector ministries concerned. They are responsible for supporting the efforts of the second group, which is purely technical. The latter includes about 37 experts from universities, research institutes, and technology companies. As for the daily use of the Internet, and to put that into perspective, broadcasting Netflix in the highest definition requires 56 gigabits of data per hour. With 6G, you would be able to download just over 142 hours of high-quality video every second. However, as things stand, researchers still have to remove significant obstacles to achieve this goal. For the specialist, 6G speed would require significant improvement in “materials science, computer architecture, chip design, and energy use. We must think about sustainable ways to supply all these devices without the risk of burning the Earth,” Shirvanimoghaddam said.

Men seeking to be breastfed by their wives are not uncommon in certain parts of Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. However, it is now being linked to gender violence and coercive behaviour and there are concerns over the impact on babies’ nutrition according to a report by Guardian U.K. Little was known about the practice until Uganda’s minister of state for health, Sarah Opendi, broke the silence in parliament in 2018 and warned against “a growing culture of men demanding to suckle, which was becoming a problem for some breastfeeding mothers and their babies”. Researchers went ahead to study this behaviour and the reasons propelling this action, the study focused on the rural Buikwe district, in the central region, where the behaviour is reported to be common. Anonymised interviews were conducted with a group of four men who worked as “boda boda” motorcycle taxi drivers. One said: ‘I know other men do it, but we’ve never talked about it.’ So that to me would suggest that it is a common behaviour, but it isn’t socially accepted,” said Merritt. The preliminary research suggested that men often drink before the child is fed, usually once a day, sometimes more frequently, and for about an hour at a time. The men said they found it energising. “It sustains me, I come home for lunch and it relieves stress in the middle of the working day.” Further explaining the rationale behind this behaviour, Dr Peter Rukundo, a senior lecturer at Kyambogo University who assisted with the research said: “There is a belief in some communities that breast milk has energising and curative powers, even curing diseases such as HIV and Aids and cancer.” The men also said it was a way of initiating sex and showing affection. “But then it is happening to women who have just given birth,” he added. One man told the researchers: “When breastfeeding, I feel like I’m being looked after like a child, and this becomes addictive. I feel like a prince.” When asked what might happen if she said no, one woman replied: “I fear that my husband might go elsewhere if I wouldn’t let it happen.” Thomas admitted that resistance could result in the women being beaten. “She can’t say no because you become obsessed, it’s hard to stop. If women say no it can cause violence, it’s a big issue,” he said. The behaviour has been linked to gender-based violence in the Karamoja region in north-east Uganda. A case that is being looked to so women can have the kind of freedom they desire. Source: The Guardian

Huhana, a social worker, says she won't fly again until she loses weight, to avoid the sort of traumatic experience Thai Airways put her and her daughters through. "We were really looking forward to flying on business class and instead we were left traumatised,'' she added. Most airlines can provide seatbelt extensions for larger passengers. But Thai Airways said its business class seatbelts are fitted with built-in air bags which means they can't be extended. The family are still confused by this explanation. Since their traumatic experience last summer, Huhana and her daughters have been trying to get a refund from Thai Airways. But the airline has only offered to recompense the family based on the difference between business and economy fares. She approached the travel agent she booked the flights with, Flight Centre, who said it would provide a full refund, although the family had to wait more than six months for it. Saddened' The family were on a tour organised by Destination Beauty, which specialises in sending clients to Thailand for weight-loss and plastic surgery. Martin Olsen, chief executive of Destination Beauty, said he was ''very saddened and surprised'' at the way the airline handled the situation. He was also confused by the actions of Thai Airways staff as ''many obese people book business class as they are unable to fit comfortably into economy class''. When it comes to oversized passengers, it's up to the discretion of each airline how to manage the situation, a spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said. Airlines do calculate the take-off weight for a plane, but this takes into account the estimated weight of passengers, their luggage and fuel. ''In most cases the average passenger is well under the weight limit as the allowance tends to be fairly generous,'' he said. Most airlines recommend that if you think you will be too big for your seat, you should buy a second seat at the time you make your booking. But few airlines have specific guidelines when it comes the definition of ''oversized''. However, American Airlines does states '''if a customer's body extends more than one inch beyond the outermost edge of the armrest and a seatbelt extension is needed, another seat is required''. |
Enjoying the luxury of business class seats on an 11-hour flight back to Auckland was meant to be a treat for Renell and Tere after undergoing weight-loss surgery in the city of Bangkok. Instead, the sisters and their mother, Huhana, were left ''traumatised'' by Thai Airways staff who came at them with tape measures telling them they were ''too big'' for their business class seats. Six months on from that ''disgusting'' experience and Huhana, 59, is still bitter about the experience. ''The staff were shouting 'too big, too big' at us repeatedly. Rows of people watched as they measured us at the check-in. It was so humiliating the way we were treated that I just broke down in tears,'' said Huhana. The language barrier didn't help as staff refused to let them enter the business class section and made them sit in economy class.

The future is closer than we thought ![]() |
The British car industry has promoted the economic opportunities of developing self-driving cars. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said in a 2019 report that the industry could produce a £62bn economic boost by 2030, and believes Britain has significant advantages over other countries in pushing autonomous vehicles. Driverless car trials around the world have not been without controversy and concerns for the safety of other road users. Uber, which has been testing its self-driving cars in numerous US states, temporarily paused the trials in March 2018 after a vehicle in autonomous mode killed a woman in the street in Arizona, in what appeared to be the first reported fatal crash involved a self-driving vehicle and a pedestrian in the country. |
The £13.5m HumanDrive project is jointly funded by the British government and an industry consortium of nine partners including Nissan and Hitachi. Its goal is to develop an autonomous vehicle control system that resembles a natural, human driving style. The vehicles have also been driven on test tracks as part of the project. Bob Bateman, the project manager for Nissan’s Europe technical centre, said: “The HumanDrive project allowed us to develop an autonomous vehicle that can tackle challenges encountered on UK roads that are unique to this part of the world, such as complex roundabouts and high-speed country lanes with no road markings, white lines or kerbs.” Two engineers remained in the car throughout the journey, which achieved its target of 99% self-navigation. Human drivers briefly took over the controls when the car pulled in at four service stations en route for checks and charging. The Nissan Leaf used in the project is not the only self-driving car being tested on the streets of Britain. Ford Mondeos fitted with autonomous technology from the UK tech firm Oxbotica travelled on public roads around the former Olympic Park in Stratford, east London, in October 2019, during trials for a separate partially government-funded project in a complex urban environment. In addition, Oxbotica hopes to begin the first passenger trials of its autonomous ride-sharing taxi service with the cab firm Addison Lee in London in June.

A self-navigating car has successfully driven itself for 230 miles, the longest and most complex journey undertaken so far on UK roads by an autonomous vehicle. The Nissan Leaf, fitted with GPS, radar, Lidar laser measurement technology and cameras, travelled from Nissan’s technical centre in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, to the carmaker’s manufacturing plant in Sunderland, where the model is made. Nissan says the vehicle’s advanced positioning technology allows it to assess its surroundings and make decisions about how to navigate roads and obstacles. During the journey, named the GrandDrive, the car travelled on a range of roads alongside traffic, from country lanes to the M1 motorway. The autonomous technology activated along the route whenever the vehicle needed to stop, start or change lanes.
