A Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet involved in the anti-terror war against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province has lost radar contact in Borno State.

NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, in a statement on Thursday, said the Alpha Jet lost radar contact on Wednesday evening.

According to Wikipedia, a radar system is used at airports to detect and display the presence and position of aircraft in the terminal area and the airspace around airports. It is the main air traffic control system for the airspace around airports.

Gabkwet said though the whereabouts of the attack jet was unknown as of the time of filing this report, search and rescue efforts were ongoing.

The NAF spokesman, however, did not disclose the number of officers onboard the yet-to-be-found jet.

The statement titled, ‘Nigerian Air Force Alpha-Jet Loses Radar Contact’, read, “A Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet has lost contact with radar in Borno State, while on interdiction mission in support of ground troops. The mission was part of the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East. The loss of radar contact occurred at about 5:08 pm on 31 March 2021.

“Details of the whereabout of the aircraft or likely cause of contact loss are still sketchy but will be relayed to the general public as soon as they become clear. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts are ongoing.”

Speaking with The PUNCH, a former military airport commandant, Group Captain John Ojikutu (retd.), said the jet must be missing, adding that when an aircraft loses radar and communication contact for more than 30 minutes, such aircraft must be declared missing.

The PUNCH had also reported that a NAF Beechcraft KingAir B350i crashed in Abuja in February with all seven officers onboard killed.

The jet en route Minna in Niger State crashed close to the runway of the Abuja airport after reporting engine failure.

What happened in Ebonyi is the work of Ipob supporters and ESN.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB Wednesday accused Nigerian Security agencies of aiding and abating murderous herdsmen to kill Biafran people of Ebonyi and Enugu States.

IPOB while reacting to the alleged killing of herdsmen in Ebonyi State, through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said they in IPOB and ESN are chasing Fulani terrorists, herdsmen, in the whole of South East and South-South and we will spare terrorists when they get them.

IPOB statement read in part, “It is now clear and open to the public how Nigeria security agencies are aiding and abetting murderous Fulani terrorists herdsmen to kill our Biafran people in Ebonyi and Enugu States.

Nigeria security agencies are giving them cover to attack the villagers in these two states because Nigeria Army and Police in uniforms are terrorists Nigerians and Nigeria as a country are suffering today.

“If Nigerians and communities want to be free from terrorism, they must openly reject Nigeria security operatives in the country, they are all terrorists and working for terrorists.

“How can security agencies that are supposed to protect and secure innocent citizens will be providing cover for terrorists to attack people, that is what IPOB is talking about.

“IPOB and ESN are chasing Fulani terrorist herdsmen in the whole of South East and South-South and we won’t spare terrorists when we get them”

As part of efforts towards actualising their agitation for the acclaimed Oduduwa Republic, a security outfit has been launched in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The security outfit named Oduduwa Nation Security Force, was code-named “Operation Paramole’.

DAILY POST reports that a set of Yoruba nation agitators suddenly appeared in Abeokuta on Tuesday for a rally.

With branded vehicles, T-shirts and banners, they marched to the palace of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.

However, the monarch was said to have travelled out of the State for a presentation at the Senate in Abuja.

Recall that Sunday Igboho’s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, had recently threatened that Yoruba youths would invade the palace of the Alake for not supporting Sunday Igboho’s call for a Yoruba nation.

But, Tuesday’s march to the Oba’s palace was a peaceful demonstration devoid of any act of violence.
