Defence minister to troops: don’t be afraid of bullets By Duku Joel, Maiduguri Defence Minister Bashir Magashi on Sunday challenged troops to step up the fight against terrorists by becoming more daring and should not be afraid of “the bullet.” Magashi, a retired Brig.-Gen. said what should be on the minds of the troops while battling insurgents should be to secure the country. He spoke during a morale-boosting visit to the troops in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital; with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt. Gen. Lucky Irabor, and service chiefs. Also on Sunday, Army spokesman Brig.- Gen. Mohammed Yerima announced the arrest of one Modu Ari, for providing Boko Haram terrorists with vital information to assist their attack on troops at Kamuya on the border of Borno and Yobe states. Addressing the troops at the Theatre Command Headquarters in Maiduguri, Magashi said: “You should not be afraid of the bullet because it can even meet you in the house if it means you dying by it. But if you are not meant to die by the bullet, it will never kill you even at the heart of a war.” The minister assured them of the government’s readiness to improve on their welfare. Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Farouq Yahaya, lauded the sustained commitment shown to the operations of the Theatre by the minister, the chief of defence staff and the service chiefs. Stressing that the troops were grateful for the minister’s visit, he recalled that immediately after their appointments, Irabor led the service chiefs to visit the Theatre Command headquarters. Yahaya explained that apart from collective tours, the service chiefs also visited individually to ensure smooth operations. The minister and his team held a meeting with component commanders. Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have come under heavy attacks, the most recent being in Damasak. Army Spokesman Gen. Yerima in a statement, said: “Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole arrested suspected Boko Haram informant whose spying activities and that of his accomplices were responsible for the attacks on troops position by terrorists in Kamuya, Yobe State. “The informant who was identified as Modu Ari was apprehended by troops of 27 Task Force Bridge. “On interrogation, he confessed to having revealed troops’ movements and position to his Boko Haram collaborators. Investigation is however ongoing to unravel the network of local informants whose nefarious activities have endangered troops on clearance operations around the fringes of Timbuktu Triangle. “The unfortunate sabotage of troops movement by Ari and his accomplices made it possible for the terrorists to attack the rear element of troops on patrol. Though the attack was swiftly repelled by troops from the Tactical Headquarters of 27 Task Force Brigade and Army Super Camp 3 Buratai, own troops suffered some casualties. “In spite of the setback, the Chief of Army Staff has encouraged troops of Operation Tura Takaibango to keep their fighting spirit up and to remain dedicated in the effort to flush out the remnants of the terrorists as quickly as possible. He charged them not to relent even in the face of gross unpatriotic acts of some locals who are snitching on their movements and positions. https://thenationonlineng.net/defence-minister-to-troops-dont-be-afraid-of-bullets/amp/

Isa Pantami Should Resign Or Buhari Must Sack Him—House Of Reps Caucus The caucus in a statement on Friday said it joined the demands of millions of Nigerians that the minister’s alleged links with global terrorist groups pose great danger to the country. The minority caucus of the House of Representatives has insisted that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, should resign or be removed by President Muhammadu Buhari, saying his continued stay in office poses great threat to “our national security.” The caucus in a statement on Friday said it joined the demands of millions of Nigerians that the minister’s alleged links with global terrorist groups pose great danger to the country. The federal lawmakers insisted that insecurity was blind to creed and party colourations and “this underscores why the Caucus will resist any attempt by anyone to politicise a clear existential threat to our motherland.” Earlier, the spokesman for the House, Benjamin Kalu, had said the House was ready to hear a motion by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu on the need to suspend or sack the minister. The Minority Caucus had also asked the Speaker to forward Elumelu’s position as as the resolution of the House to President Muhammadu Buhari. While coming under matters of privilege at Wednesday’s plenary, Elumelu had called for resignation of the minister for alleged links to terrorist groups and past comments supporting terrorist groups. In noting Elumelu’s position, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila had informed he was coming under a wrong order and failed to inform the House how Pantami’s alleged link breached his privilege. The matter was again raised on the floor on Thursday with members expressing concerns about media report which they claimed misrepresented what transpired. It had been reported Kalu said the House was prepared to hear Elumelu’s motion if properly presented. In a statement by the spokesman for the caucus, Francis Ottah Agbo, the Minority Caucus dismissed the position of the House spokesman. It insisted the motion by the Minority Leader was properly done in accordance with the rules of the House. The statement reads partly: “We demand that Hon. Kalu should withdraw his statement and tender an unreserved apology to the Minority Leader and Nigerians for misrepresenting the rules of the House. “Our caucus, standing with millions of Nigerians, also demands that the Speaker should immediately act on the prayers of the motion, by conveying the same as the position of the House to Mr. President, having accepted the appropriateness of the procedure and taken legislative note of the prayers therein. “As a caucus, we stand behind the Minority Leader in insisting that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, should resign or be removed by President Muhammadu Buhari, as his continued stay in office poses great threat to our national security. “Insecurity is blind to creed and party colourations and this underscores why the Caucus will resist any attempt by anyone to politicise a clear existential threat to our motherland.” http://saharareporters.com/2021/04/23/isa-pantami-should-resign-or-buhari-must-sack-him%E2%80%94house-reps-caucus

2023: Deal with secessionists before asking for presidency – Arewa youths tell Ohanaeze By Seun Opejobi The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has said that the leaders of the Southeast must ensure sanity within their region before negotiating for presidency in 2023. AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima made the remark in response to comments by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, apex Igbo socio-political Organisation that they would reach out to other regions to allow the Southeast produce Nigeria’s President in 2023. Speaking with DAILY POST, Shettima said it would be difficult to trust the Southeast with power amid the call for Nigeria’s breakup by groups and individuals from the region. Recall that the President-General of Ohanaeze, George Obiozor, had said 2023 was the turn of the Southeast to produce Nigeria’s president. Obiozor had disclosed that the South-East would negotiate with other regions to allow for an Igbo presidency in 2023. But Shettima said Nigerians would not deprive them such an opportunity if Southeast leaders deal with Igbo descents calling for Nigeria’s breakup. He said: “If Ohanaeze says they will negotiate, then that is a bit of politics but unfortunately for them, they need to ensure sanity in their region first. “Nobody will deprive them the opportunity to produce the president being a Nigerian but not when they have one of their own threatening the corporate existence of our nation, Nigeria. “They have not taken any decisive step to condemn the action and inactions of those criminally minded people, but expect Nigerians to entrust them with power. “It will be difficult to entrust them with power, it’s better for them to ensure sanity in their home before coming to the table to discuss with those on top so people can say they have shown commitment and not by threats and intimidations, those days are over.” https://dailypost.ng/2021/04/22/2023-deal-with-secessionists-before-asking-for-presidency-arewa-youths-tell-ohanaeze/

Ben Bruce sparks to support Igbo sovereignty Silverbird group founder, Senator Ben Murray Bruce has shown to spark support for Igbo sovereignty via a message he sent out to his fans. See what he wrote: Igbos are the richest in Nigeria and most intelligent, but why do they want a nation of their own? The answer is simple! During Nigerian Civil War, Igbos produced all the weapons they used to fight the war, but Nigeria did not manufacture even a gun. After the civil war, Nigeria still could not produce even toothpick as a country, but Igbos are still producing cars, clothes, shoes etc. An average Igbo man believes that Nigeria is suppressing his talents, and that is why they want a separate nation where they can reach their potentials. The day Nigeria starts to cooperate with Igbo man will be the day Nigeria will compete with the rest of the world. Calls for sack of Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed thickens as CBN admits printing money Daily Post Nigeria NEWSCalls for sack of Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed thickens as CBN admits printing moneyPublished on April 17, 2021By Timilehin Abaenogbe Nigerians have joined the ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged printing of N60 billion by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to support the federal allocation to the three tiers of government for the month of March, 2021, calling on the Federal Government to come out clean by telling Nigerians, not just if it indeed printed the money as alleged but also the real situation with the nation’s economy. DAILY POST reports that Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State kick-started the controversy, when he alleged, during the Edo transition committee stakeholders engagement in Benin, that the Federal Government had to print N60 billion to support allocation for the month of March. The governor, who painted a grim picture of the economic situation in the country, said: “Nigeria has changed. The economy of Nigeria is not the same again whether we like it or not. Since the civil war, we have been managing, saying money is not our problem as long as we are pumping crude oil every day. So, we have run a very strange economy and strange presidential system where the local, state and federal government, at the end of the month, go and earn salaries. We are the only country in the world that does that. “Everywhere else, the government relies on the people to produce taxes and that is what they use to run the local government, state and the federation. But with the way we run Nigeria, the country can go to sleep. At the end of the month, we just go to Abuja, collect money and we come back to spend. We are in trouble, huge financial trouble”, he said. Not done, Obaseki, released the bomb that has continued to reverberate all over, when he said:“When we got FAAC for March, the Federal Government printed an additional N50-N60bn to top up for us to share. This April, we will go to Abuja and share. By the end of this year, our total borrowing is going to be within N15trn to N16trn.’’ This revelation has continued to upset many, including the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, who both reacted but differently. While the finance minister outrightly denied printing of the said amount and insisted that whatever money was shared came from the country’s revenue, Emefiele tried to be smart by half, without completely admitting or denying but rationalizing such a hugely important national discourse. In her response, the Minister, Ahmed said the claim by Obaseki was not just false but sad, insisting that the money being shared monthly at FAAC is revenue generated. “The issue that was raised by the Edo State Governor, for me, is very sad because it is not a fact. “What we distribute at FAAC is a revenue that is generated and in fact, distribution revenue is a public information. “We publish revenue generated by FIRS, the Customs and the NNPC and we distribute at FAAC. “So, it is not true to say we printed money to distribute at FAAC. It is not true’, Zainab Ahmed said with a bold face. However, standing by his claim, Obaseki called out the finance minister, accusing her of playing the Ostrich and the federal government of monetary rascality, in a series of tweets. Obaseki tweeted: “While we do not want to join issues with the Federal Ministry of Finance, we believe it is our duty to offer useful advice for the benefit of our country. “The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed should rally Nigerians to stem the obvious fiscal slide facing our country. “Rather than play the Ostrich, we urge the government to take urgent steps to end the current monetary rascality, so as to prevent the prevailing economic challenge from degenerating further. “We believe it is imperative to approach the Nigerian project with all sense of responsibility and commitment and not play to the gallery because ultimately, time shall be the judge of us all.” Emefiele, while trying to rationalise and justify the action of the government, ended up painting a grimmer picture of the state of the economy, even worse than Obaseki had done in his initial allegation. According to the CBN Governor, it was the job of the CBN to print money and lend it to government, slamming the allegation by Obaseki, which he failed to deny, as “unfortunate and totally inappropriate”. Insisting that printing is a key mandate of the apex bank, Emefiele said the bank must always act to support the government at times of ‘financial difficulties.’ He said: “If you understand the concept of printing of money. The concept printing of money is about lending money. “That’s our job – to print. It’s about lending money and so there’s no need putting the controversy about printing of money as if we are going into the factory, printing the Naira and start distributing on the streets. “For us to see some people playing some games, overheating the polity talking about printing of money, I think it is unfortunate and totally inappropriate. I would like to advise that this should stop. We should all work for the growth of our country and not play politics. “It is very inappropriate for people to just give some colouration to the word ‘printing of money’ as if it is a foreign word coming from the sky. “In 2015/2016, we were in a similar [fiscal] situation, but it is far worse today. We provided budget support facility to all the states of the country and that loan remains unpaid till now. We are going to insist on the states paying the loan back since they are effectively accusing us of giving them loans. “Most countries of the world today are confronted by not just the health crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic but also economic crisis. I keep saying this: it would be irresponsible of the Central Bank of Nigeria or any Central Bank to stand idle and refuse to support its government at this time. Whatever we do in Nigeria is being done in any clime. “Nigeria is unfortunately in a very bad situation and we cannot pretend about it in the sense that we are facing problems about productivity output which is gross domestic product (GDP). We are working very hard to see how we can get our heads above water. We are also concerned with issues of inflation.” For Emefiele, printing of money to lend to government for sharing among the three tiers is not a new thing, as he alluded that it had been done in 2015/2016 when the situation was not this bad. He also said it is the same thing that is being done in other countries facing similar challenges. The question most Nigerians are asking is why the finance minister, Zainab Ahmed denied the allegation. Most of them are worried as to Why she tried to cover up what will eventually become public knowledge with time. For many Nigerians, Minister Ahmed’s denial only follows what the Nigerian government has been known for over the years; denying the obvious and and painting the picture of an Eldorado that only exists in the minds of government officials and their spin doctors. According to Oladele Bello, a banker and economic expert, what is happening is obvious, as the current government has tried hard to keep the real situation away from Nigerians, just to hoodwink citizens with fake reports of performance and reeling out numbers that only exist in their imaginations. “This is not rocket science, the boat of government was rocked by the revelation by Governor Godwin Obaseki. I can tell you for free that they never expected that the printing of the money will become public knowledge, thereby, rocking the boat of the artificial image of performance and robust economy it had always laid claim to. “The reality is that Nigeria is not just broke but the economy is already in shambles. Government is not generating enough revenue to keep up with what is needed, and they do not want to admit it. We are indeed in trouble with the insatiable appetite of this administration for loans, with those saddled with running the economy constantly telling us that the nation’s debt is still tolerable. How can the debt profile of a country that uses a huge chunk of its budget to service be tolerable? These people qualify to be called Voodoo economists!”, he said. For Akintoba Olaore, a chattered accountant with an audit firm in the Ikeja area of Lagos, what the federal government did is indefensible, reeks of financial recklessness and portends greater danger for the nation. Olaore said: “What government did through the CBN cannot be defended at all. It is better government opens up that the nation is in distress and we all will know what has come upon us. I do not think it is right hiding behind one finger, telling Nigerians all is well when nothing is actually well. That’s deception and it will not help this government or Nigerians. “As it stands, what government has done is concealing the true position of the national economy from Nigerians. It is just like the management or board of a publicly quoted company concealing the true financial position of the company from shareholders. It is a major corporate infraction that can lead to the sacking of the board. Government needs to urgently give a full disclosure of the true situation of the state of the economy and stop living in denial. “Also, government officials must know that their offices and positions are held in trust for the Nigerian people and they must be accountable to them at all times. The people are their employers and only them deserve their loyalties.” Also, reacting to the controversy, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called for the sacking of the Finance Minister for attempting to cover up the printing of the money. According to the PDP, the admission by the CBN Governor has vindicated it that the apex bank has been printing the nation’s currency at the behest of the Buhari administration and that the government under the APC has been characterized by “concealments, deceit, and falsehood”. The party said in a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan on Friday: “Indeed, the admission by the CBN governor that “Nigeria is unfortunately in a very bad situation” further justifies our position that the Buhari-led APC administration has wrecked the economy of our nation. “Our party is worried over the huge negative impact of indiscriminate printing of currency which has led to the unprecedented rise in inflation rate to 18.17% as disclosed by the Federal Bureau of Statistics on Thursday. “The PDP calls out President Buhari to come clean on the amount that has been printed so far by the CBN to finance the deficit caused by the financial mismanagement of his government as well as what the funds had been used for. “Furthermore, for failing the full disclosure test, the PDP demands that the Minister of Finance should immediately be relieved of her position, while the President accepts responsibility for the indiscriminate printing of currency in our Naira. “Our party implores President Buhari to save our nation by allowing better hands to manage and salvage our economy before it is too late.” https://dailypost.ng/2021/04/17/calls-for-sack-of-finance-minister-zainab-ahmed-thickens-as-cbn-admits-printing-money/

EXCLUSIVE: ESN Releases Photo Of Suspected Fulani Terrorist Killed In Ebonyi Violence, Blames Northerners The suspected Fulani terrorist was one of the several militants who invaded the community to allegedly carry out a reprisal but were gunned down by the ESN operatives. operatives have released a photograph of a suspected Fulani terrorist killed during the violence which has engulfed Umuogudu Akpu-Ngbo Community in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State since Monday. Sources in the community told SaharaReporters that the suspected Fulani terrorist was one of the several militants who invaded the community to allegedly carry out a reprisal but were gunned down by the ESN operatives. A top source revealed that the Fulani herdsmen were among those fuelling the crisis in the Ebonyi communities. “This is one of the Fulani terrorists that came to attack the Ngbo community in Ebonyi province on Monday. Despite the charm tied around his waist, the gallant ESN operatives still sent him to face proper judgment. “God bless ESN operatives forever. The ESN is our last hope, since Governor Dave Umahi’s best effort after several months of bloodshed is to come up with a toothless outfit called Ebube Agu,” the source stated. Suspected Fulani herdsmen had in March killed at least 25 persons in Egedegede community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of the state. The governor later said despite protecting Fulani herdsmen in the state and South-East region, they still killed people of Ebonyi. Umahi, during a visit to the community, confirmed that AK-47-wielding herdsmen killed at least “15 persons” from the information he got. He said, “We are in Ishielu where the AK-47 herdsmen came yesterday (Monday) and killed 15 of the members of this community. I remember a year ago that we had an incident of the killing of two herdsmen within this same location. And immediately, the security agencies and local government chairman and community leaders all came together to condemn the attack and killing and we immediately asked the security agencies to fish out the people who did. “We fished them out and as we talk, they are standing trial in Ebonyi State. The community, government and security agencies appeased the herdsmen and made peace with them. And so, it is very shocking that overnight, all the herdsmen in Ishielu LGA vacated which means that the local herdsmen are part of the conspiracy of the killing of our people." http://saharareporters.com/2021/04/14/exclusive-esn-releases-photo-suspected-fulani-terrorist-killed-ebonyi-violence-blames

Umahi Disagrees With Uzodinma, Says Bandits, Not IPOB Responsible For Southeast Attacks The Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi on Wednesday declared that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are not responsible for the attacks in the southeast. According to the Governor, bandits are the ones masquerading as members of IPOB’s Eastern Security Network (ESN) to attack the southeast region. Newspot recalls the region has come under several attacks by gunmen in recent times including attacks on police stations, and other security formations with the attackers burning cars and other public properties in the process. Some sections of the public have blamed IPOB for the attack. Most notably, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma and the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu claimed IPOB and the ESN were responsible for the attacks. But Umahi on Wednesday disagreed with their submissions, noting that bandits were responsible for the attacks. In his words, “Of late, we have bandits that are doing a lot of evil and say that they are Eastern Security Network. They commit a lot of crimes and say that they are IPOB and later IPOB will say they have no hand in it. This is what is going on. We will not allow illegality to thrive in our land. Conflict will not resolve conflict.” He however noted that the Governors of the southeast won’t just sit down and watch the security situation continue to deteriorate. Umahi noted that this informed the recent launch of the regional security outfit, codenamed Ebubeagu for the southeast adding that it is the only legal regional security outfit for the area established to collaborate with other conventional security agencies. “Ebubeagu is to protect the lives of everyone in the South-East,” the governor noted. Umahi also warned people to stop playing politics with the security situation in Nigeria, warning that such actions would have dire consequences. The truth remains that the country is going into extreme politics, it is easier to make money in politics, blackmail people and so, we have departed from the culture of hard work,” he said. Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, on Wednesday, condemned those who are influenced by other people’s opinions on social media. Keyamo who took to his Twitter account noted that some people have commercialized their opinions and positioned themselves as characters with a plan to provide a moral compass for the country. https://newspotng.com/umahi-disagrees-with-uzodinma-says-bandits-not-ipob-responsible-for-southeast-attacks/

Bandits kidnap women in Oyo as hunters await approval from Govt for rescue operation By Ola Ajayi SOME bandits have again abducted three women at Onipe Community, Idi Ayunre area of Ibadan on Monday. According to information gathered, the hoodlums who reportedly hid in the bush suddenly emerged and started shooting to scare people away. While the shooting was on, the bandits were said to have held the three women hostage before leading them into the thick bush in the area. One of the kidnap victims was said to have been forced out of a Toyota SUV marked AGL 66 FY. Two men who reported the case at a police station in Idi Ayunre have the names of the victims as Mrs Okeowo, Mrs Abosede Adebayo and Mrs Bola Ogunrinde. Though, the victims are yet to be rescued, Vanguard gathered that a team of policemen from Idi Ayunre Divisional Police station, hunters and local vigilante group have been combing nooks and crannies of the area. The new Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Adewale Osifeso who confirmed the story said other tactical teams had joined the security agents on the trail of the hoodlums. Also confirming the story, the National President of Soludero Hunters Association of Nigeria, Oba Nureni Ajijola Anabi said he and his men were awaiting directive from the Oyo State Government before they could go for such operation. Yes, we heard and a security officer with the state government promised to get in touch with us but we have been trying to call him.” “We need to be mobilized. First, the thick forest where the kidnappers took their victims to is owned by the government. Also, we don’t have money we can spend. All the achievements recorded so far were possible because of the help we got from Ilaji Farms. As we are now, we are stuck. If we need to enter the bush for the rescue operation, the men with me need to be encouraged. We can’t do so with needed help from the government”, he said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/04/bandits-kidnap-women-in-oyo-as-hunters-await-approval-from-govt-for-rescue-operation/
