Insecurity: Chinedu Eya apologises to Enugu Gov, names Nnamdi Kanu as prophet A former senatorial aspirant in Enugu State, Chief Chinedu Eya, has apologized to the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwanyi and the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu over his criticism. Recall that Eya had been a major critic of Nnamdi Kanu for revolting against the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government. Eya, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in his 40th birthday message made available to DAILY POST, said it was never expected that Nigeria’s insecurity would reach a situation that would project Nnamdi Kanu as a prophet. He stated that the IPOB leader foresaw the current security situation long ago. According to him, his relationship with Governor Ugwanyi and Kanu was not as it ought to be due to his wrong view of the situation, hence, the appeal for forgiveness. According to him, “Your Excellency, I want it to be on record that at 40, I came with my whole heart, fully wired and energized to say, ‘I am SORRY’ for the misdeeds of yesterday and to also assure His Excellency that it will never repeat itself in the history of our mutual existence. “It is important to state at this juncture that my previous diatribes against the leader of Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, over his hatred for Nigeria, was done in error. Nnamdi Kanu was right and I was wrong. “He foresaw tomorrow but I did not as I never believed a time will come when herders will be raping, pilfering and killing our people; in addition to destroying our farmlands while the Presidency looks either way”. https://dailypost.ng/2021/04/10/insecurity-chinedu-eya-apologises-to-enugu-gov-names-nnamdi-kanu-as-prophet/

Obaseki: How Lack Of Funds Forced FG To Print N60bn For States To Share Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has said Nigeria is in a huge financial trouble. Speaking at a programme in the state on Thursday Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has said Nigeria is in a huge financial trouble. Speaking at a programme in the state on Thursday, the governor said the federal allocation for March was insufficient, forcing the Federal Government to print between N50 billion and N60 billion for states to share. When we got FAAC for March, the federal government printed additional N50-N60 billion to top-up for us to share. “This April, we will go to Abuja and share. By the end of this year, our total borrowings is going to be within N15-N16 trillion. Imagine a family that is just borrowing without any means to pay back and nobody is looking at that, everybody is looking at 2023, everybody is blaming Mr. President as if he is a magician,” he said. Lamenting the overdependence on crude oil, Obaseki said the rising debt profile is worrisome. He said oil companies are shutting down in the country, challenging the government to come up with other means of revenue generation. “Nigeria has changed. The economy of Nigeria is not the same again whether we like it or not. Since the civil war, we have been managing, saying money is not our problem as long as we are pumping crude oil everyday. “So we have run a very strange economy and strange presidential system where the local, state and federal government, at the end of the month, go and earn salary. We are the only country in the world that does that. “Everywhere else, government rely on the people to produce taxes and that is what they use to run the local government, state and the federation. “But with the way we run Nigeria, the country can go to sleep. At the end of the month, we just go to Abuja, collect money and we come back to spend. We are in trouble, huge financial trouble. “The current price of crude oil is only a mirage. The major oil companies who are the ones producing are no longer investing much in oil. Shell is pulling out of Nigeria and Chevron is now one of the world’s largest investors in alternative fuel, so in another year or so, where will we find this money that we go to share in Abuja?” he asked. https://dailytrust.com/obaseki-how-lack-of-funds-forced-fg-to-print-n60bn-for-states-to-share

The assailants who also appeared to be arsonists had in their numbers attacked the community and set ablaze 15 houses. It was gathered that the arsonists who were known to the residents of the community attacked the community after the locals allegedly tipped off security agencies about their activities and movement. Angered by the move of the arsonists, women in the community who protested the attack and destruction of the community, called on security agencies to arrest the gang members. According to the protesting women who identified the suspected gang members as Kutu Mone aka MK; July Mone; Best Oniwei; Iyemiyelawei Mone; Mathew Suku Polobubou; Dedewei Mone and Bado Ogbudugbudu said the gang have been operating in the riverine area for a while until security operatives started clamping down on them. Banditry, kidnapping, herdsmen crisis leading to calls for Nigeria’s breakup – Lai Mohammed By Seun Opejobi The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Thursday lamented that the current insecurity in the country poses a great danger to Nigeria’s unity. Mohammed lamented that the issues of farmers, herders crisis, banditry, kidnapping among other insecurity challenges have led to increasing calls for secession in Nigeria. He stated this during a Town Hall meeting in Kaduna tagged: “Setting Benchmarks for Enhanced Security and National Unity in Nigeria”. The Minister also noted that teamwork from all Nigerians in ensuring the rescue of the country remains the solution to these challenges. According to Mohammed: “Ominously, the general state of insecurity, as reflected in incidences of farmers/herders clashes, Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, ethno-religious clashes and intolerance, cultism, drug addiction and kidnapping for ransom, are now triggering rising call for secession as well as politicization of ethnic and religious differences. Bluntly put, the insecurity and its manifestations pose a dangerous threat to the unity of the country and its continued existence as one indivisible nation. “How did we get here and what can we do to change the narrative? We believe that finding a way out of the situation in which we have found ourselves requires teamwork, reflecting all diversities and leveraging on all our collective creativity to pursue with diligence the project of rescuing Nigeria.” https://dailypost.ng/2021/04/08/banditry-kidnapping-herdsmen-crisis-leading-to-calls-for-nigerias-breakup-lai-mohammed/

EXCLUSIVE: Military Launches Air Strikes On Benue To Kill Unknown Gunmen, Residents Panic The aircraft flew as low as 5 to 10 metres above the roof level with a wicked soldier who was shooting randomly and emptying a lot of magazines in motion and the Nigerian Air Force have begun air strikes on Bonta community in Shangev Tiev, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State, to destroy the camps of unknown gunmen, believed to be militants from the South-East. SaharaReporters learnt that the military jets after leaving Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday where they had been engaging operatives of the Eastern Security Network, were redirected to Benue State to continue air interdictions. SaharaReporters gathered from eyewitnesses that the aircraft flew at low level as they released gunfire, forcing residents to run in different directions as the deafening bombardments continued on Tuesday. “The aircraft flew as low as 5 to 10 metres above the roof level with a wicked soldier who was shooting randomly and emptying a lot of magazines in motion,” a witness stated. “It all started this morning, when Nigerian military attacked the people of Bonta in Shangev Tiev, Konshisha LGA using aircraft. This unexpected attack made everyone run out of the villages and look for a secure place to lay low,” another resident said. “There are actually reports of deaths from the bullets, the shock from the unexpected attack and the loud sound and vibration from the aircraft. There have truly been communal clashes between the people of Shangev Tiev and the Igede community in Okpute. “Some military men were caught in the clash when they were attacked by some Shangev Tiev youths on their way to their place of assignment. Now, the military have come to avenge the attack on their members,” another source revealed. The Nigerian military confirmed the aerial strikes in Benue, saying they were from troops of Operation Whirl Stroke who came to engage attackers who had ambushed some soldiers days earlier. “Some soldiers deployed to maintain peace between two warring communities of Konshisha and Oju LGAs respectively were ambushed. The soldiers were said to be on routine patrol in parts of Konshisha and Oju LGAs at about 5pm when the armed attackers seized them and went away with about eight soldiers after they opened fire on the troops. “The military then went to reinforce and are back to the community,” a military source stated. Only on Tuesday, the military aircraft had also caused an uproar in Essien Udim, Akwa Ibom, when the gunmen were targeted in aerial strikes for earlier killing a Chief Superintendent of Police, Benedict Okoh Ajide and other police officers. The gunmen also killed a yet-to-be-ascertained number of military officers while many others were injured. The policemen and soldiers were said to be in the community for peacekeeping efforts. http://saharareporters.com/2021/04/07/exclusive-military-launches-air-strikes-benue-kill-unknown-gunmen-residents-panic

Imo attacks: ‘Banditry is here’ – Ohanaeze heaps blames on Gov. UzodinmaPublished on April 6, 2021By Daily Post Staff Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Monday, said Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State should be held responsible for the recent security breaches in the State. DAILY POST recalls that the security challenges in the South-East worsened early Monday with the coordinated attacks on a correctional service facility in Imo State, as well as the Imo State Police Command Headquarters. Reacting, the Engr. Chidi Ibeh-led Ohanaeze said the invasion of Orlu areas weeks ago by the military on Uzodinma’s invitation was responsible for the security crisis. In the statement signed by the Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, he said “the uprisings, waves of violence and banditry in Imo State within the last 48hrs is a revengeful mission and well coordinated reprisal attacks against the Government of Imo State in response to the Governor’s acceptance of Military action and airstrikes against peaceful Eastern Security Network and IPOB members at Orlu recently.” He said, “Ndigbo had previously warned Governor Hope Uzodinma of the consequences of his impulsive actions against ESN in appeasement of his paymasters. “Consequently, Imo state Governor should now accept the full responsibilities of violence perpetrated in Owerri in the early hours of Easter Monday. “The pattern and uniformity of the modus of operandi of the perpetrators shows there are evidences of a well coordinated serial attacks in almost police stations in all igbo states at the early hours of each day, with the sole targets of amassing ammunitions for the possible full scale banditry in the South-East, but the new dimension of the attacks at Owerri Correctional facility points that the perpetrators had equally released their members recently incarcerated by Imo State Governor over Orlu crisis.” However, the Ohanaeze called for a ceasefire and reminded the perpetrators that “dialogue remains the best weapon of resolving conflicts and disputes and there are laid down procedures to nip at the bud these fast rising monsters in Southeast, which requires drastic measures.” On the way forward, the Ohanaeze scribe said, “Governor Hope Uzodinma should tender unserved apologies to Ndigbo for his non-consultative military actions in Orlu crisis and incarceration of innocent people and rescind most of his unpopular anti-Igbo decisions and policies. “Southeast Governors must establish the regional Southeast security Network to engage the Youths to defend our territories without further delay with full backing of the law. “The EndSARS FG Youth Empowerment funds should be shared equitably in all the 95 LGAs of Southeast. “Anti open grazing laws must be uniformly enacted in all the Southeast Houses of Assembly and signed into law by Southeast Governors without further delay. “Southeast Governors should de-proscribe the activities of IPOB and persuade FG to remove the terrorist tag on them. Southeast will gradually become another Northeast if our political leaders, opinion leaders, religious leaders keep quiet as evil triumph before us; this is the best time to uproot these menace growing up in the East.” https://dailypost.ng/2021/04/06/imo-attacks-banditry-is-here-ohanaeze-heaps-blames-on-gov-uzodinma/
