Nigerian Broadcasting Commission Summons Channels TV Presenters Over Anti-Buhari Interviews The summon by the NBC may not be unconnected to the utterances made by some guests brought to the programme on Wednesday. The National Broadcasting Commission has summoned the presenters of Sun Rise Daily, a breakfast show on Channels Television over some recent interviews perceived to be critical of the President, Muhammadu Buhari. This was made known by human rights’ activist and former Chairman of Nigeria's National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, on his Twitter handle. He wrote on Twitter, ”There is confirmation that @nbcgovng has summoned the presenters of @sunrisedailynow for this morning.” The summon by the NBC may not be unconnected to the utterances made by some guests brought to the programme on Wednesday. They included the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and a former Nigerian Navy officer, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi (retd.). Olawunmi had said Boko Haram terrorists mentioned names of current governors, senators and Aso Rock officials as sponsors during interrogation by the military authorities. He, however, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s government failed to demonstrate the necessary political will to go after the high-profile politicians for reasons best known to it. Olawunmi, a professor of Global Security Studies, said he was a member of the Intelligence Brief at Defence Headquarters during the leadership of the then Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin. According to him, the government had not been able to prosecute the sponsors because it was allegedly partisan. He added that the Department of State Services had tremendous information on terrorists but they could not do anything except by the body language of the Commander-In-Chief. http://saharareporters.com/2021/08/26/nigerian-broadcasting-commission-summons-channels-tv-presenters-over-anti-buhari

South-East Already Voted Biafra – Ex-Rep Proposes Type Of Referendum Other Nigerians Should Have A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Uche Onyeagucha has disclosed that the reason those superintending over the affairs of Nigeria dread the word “referendum” is because they believe that Nigeria will not survive a plebiscite. Naija News reports that the political activist disclosed this in Lagos on Wednesday while presenting a paper as one of the discussants at the RipplesNigeria Dialogue entitled: ‘Rebuilding Trust in a Divided Nigeria: Advancing the Conversation’. While calling on other parts of the country to vote on the future of Nigeria, he stated that the federal government need not bother about conducting a referendum in the Southeast “because they have already voted Biafra”. Onyeagucha enjoined Nigerians not to be afraid of the word referendum as the days when we posit that the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable are over. “The unity of Nigeria must be discussed and negotiated in the interest of Nigerians. Nigeria should only exist for Nigerians. Nigeria exists only to serve the interest of Nigerians, not the geographical expression,” he said and proposed the following as the kind of referendum that Nigerians must have: 1. All Southern Minorities should be given the opportunity to vote between having a country of your own and remaining in Nigeria as is, how will you vote? 2.All persons from Southwest, given the opportunity to vote between having Oduduwa Republic and Nigeria as is, how will you vote? 3.All Northern minorities given the opportunity to vote between having a country of your own and remaining in present-day Nigeria, how will you vote? 4.All Hausa and Fulani given the opportunity to vote between having a sharia Nigeria and remaining in present day Nigeria, how will you vote? https://www./2021/08/25/south-east-already-voted-biafra-ex-rep-proposes-type-of-referendum-other-nigerians-should-have/?amp=1

Herdsmen Attack Benue Market, Kill Eight Residents, Abduct One The council Chairman of Guma, Caleb Aba, said the attackers invaded the community on Yelwata market day while the people were still in the market. Gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, have killed no fewer than eight persons at Yelwata Community in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The gunmen were also said to have injured two persons and abducted another in the attack which took place at about 6pm on Tuesday. The council Chairman of Guma, Caleb Aba, said the attackers invaded the community on Yelwata market day while the people were still in the market and opened fire killing eight people and injuring others. Aba, who stated that the attack was unprovoked, said his people had no problems with the herdsmen before they carried out the attack. “Yesterday (Tuesday) was Yelwata market day and the people were still in the market around 6 pm when the herdsmen came and started shooting sporadically. In the end, eight people were killed, two injured and one person who was abducted is yet to be released till now,” he stated. The council boss added that the injured persons have been taken to a private hospital for treatment since the doctors in government hospitals are still on strike. A local who described the attack as shocking said the attackers could have killed more persons but for the quick intervention of troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), who stormed the area to repel the attack. The local who identified himself as Terdoo, said the troops combed the area in search of the invaders. http://saharareporters.com/2021/08/25/herdsmen-attack-benue-market-kill-eight-residents-abduct-one

Katsina Lawmakers Weep At Plenary For Buhari Government Over Rising Killings Katsina is Buhari’s home state and the governor at a recent briefing lamented that about 10 Local Government Areas are under bandits’ continuous attacks. The Katsina State House of Assembly lawmakers on Monday shed tears for the Muhammadu Buhari-led government at a plenary while discussing the deterioration of insecurity under the present regime. Katsina is Buhari’s home state and the governor at a recent briefing lamented that about 10 Local Government Areas are under bandits’ continuous attacks. Katsina State House of Assembly Specifically, the lawmakers wept openly as the parliament deliberated over the insecurity afflicting many local government areas of the state. The Deputy Speaker of the assembly, Shehu Dalhatu-Tafoki, had presented a motion of urgent public importance over the level of insecurity in Katsina at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Tasi’u Maigari. According to Dalhatu-Tafoki, (All Progressives Congress, Faskari), despite the federal government, state government, and security agencies’ efforts, insecurity worsens by the day in Katsina. He, therefore, called on the government and the security agencies to re-strategise their approach to eliminate bandits in Katsina. Dalhatu-Tafoki noted that insecurity in Katsina had worsened with more people killed every day. “There is a serious need for the security outfits in the state to increase their outposts across the state, especially the most insecurity affected areas,” said Dalhatu-Tafoki. “The outposts in those areas are not enough. They cannot overpower the bandits, despite the huge amounts of money being spent on them.” He also called on the public to continue to pray for the return of peace in Katsina. In his contribution, Haruna Goma (APC Dandume), representing the Dandume constituency, said no fewer than 11 persons were killed in two communities of Dandume, and many were abducted recently. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the lawmaker burst into tears while narrating the incident, saying the government should come to their aid and their communities before they end up being massacred. Similarly, the member representing the Funtua constituency, Abubakar Mohammed (APC Funtua), also shed tears as he narrated how for 40 days, bandits attacked communities daily, killing scores and kidnapping many. Another lawmaker representing the Katsina constituency revealed that about 32 out of the 34 local government areas in Katsina had come under bandits’ attacks. He added that even within the Katsina metropolis, people were kidnapped. He called on the government to review its expenditure on security as there was no improvement. Jabir Yusuf (APC Batsari), representing the Batsari constituency, described the recent killing of 12 people in Duba, a community in Batsari, as unfortunate. http://saharareporters.com/2021/08/24/katsina-lawmakers-weep-plenary-buhari-government-over-rising-killings

Jos Killings: TEKAN/ECWA Alleges Selective House Search, Arrest Fellowship of Christian Churches of Nigeria TEKAN /ECWA bloc of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has decried selective house search and arrest being carried out against the natives by security operatives. It noted that whenever there is government directive, security agencies proceed on a sham house search for weapons or any items, such are being carried among the natives who barely are able to defend themselves from their regular and aided attackers. TEKAN/ECWA bloc leader, Rev Moses Ebuga and the secretary of the fellowship, Rev Mohammed Mainuh while addressing newsmen in Jos, Plateau State capital, said this development has further rendered the people helpless and more vulnerable in the face of house-to-house onslaught which has become their fate. They noted that the alleged killers, Fulani herders roam about with weapons strapped on their bodies in the open glare of the same security agencies and are treated as untouchables. We wish to state categorically that self defence is a fundamental human right enshrined and protected by law and to this, we urge the government to be weary in invading the privacy of law abiding and peaceful citizens and harassing them and dispossessing them of even kitchen utensils,” they said. They appealed to security agents in the state to be sincere and none partisan in the pursuit of their responsibilities, as it seems to favour a particular group. They also decried selective justice and imposition of grave injustice on the peace-loving communities’ in Plateau State, saying that it is highly unacceptable. They further called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to come to the aid of displaced people in the state by providing them with relief materials with a view to ameliorate their suffering. https://leadership.ng/jos-killings-tekan-ecwa-alleges-selective-house-search-arrest/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
