The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has debunked ownership of a camp in Lilu, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, where soldiers revelled in Tuesday that it killed suspected operatives of the group.
The Nigerian Army Public Relations Officer, Brigadier General Nwachukwu had in a statement on Tuesday said it dislodged a notorious stronghold of IPOB and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the area, in a joint operation.
But denying the claims by the Army, the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful in a press statement said the group had no camp in the area.
Powerful accused the Army of criminal misrepresentation of facts against IPOB and ESN claiming that arrested criminals were ESN members.
The statement reads in part, “We wish to reiterate, that IPOB and ESN operatives have no camp in Lilu in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State.
“We are not militants and criminals and don’t need any camp in Ihiala LGA. We are identifiable and we are all over Biafra land and IPOB branches in the Diaspora.
“Nigeria security agencies are using the hatred they have on the people of Biafra particularly IPOB and ESN members to unleash cruelty on the people living in these communities where they suspect that criminals are taking refuge.
“If criminals take refuge in any community in Biafra land, that doesn’t make them IPOB members or ESN operatives. We have also not said there are no more criminal gangs in Biafra land just like every other country even in the advanced Western nations. But we won’t accept the tagging of every Criminal element found in Biafra as an IPOB member or ESN operative.
“Recall that some of these criminals were already mentioned by IPOB leadership sometime during a broadcast. IPOB leadership said these criminals were unleashing mayhem on innocent citizens in some communities. Some of these hoodlums were a creation of wicked politicians in their desperation to discredit IPOB and ESN.”

No fewer than 200 people, including security operatives, have been killed in various attacks by bandits on communities in Niger State this month alone.
The state governor, Abubakar Bello, disclosed this on Tuesday shortly after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa in Abuja.
He stated that the criminals who have been proscribed as terrorists by the Federal Government also invaded hundreds of communities and abducted scores of residents.
“In January alone this year, we suffered not less than 50 reported attacks and loss of lives between 1st and 17th January,” the governor told State House correspondents in the nation’s capital. “Within the same period, not less than 300 communities have been invaded by bandits.
“The number of people kidnapped is 200, including three Chinese nationals. We also lost some security personnel – their number is 25. Unfortunately, we lost about 165 civilians and 30 local vigilantes. So, it’s a very dire situation that we have been battling in the last few weeks since the beginning of this year
He lamented that residents of some communities in the state have continued to pay ransoms to terrorists in exchange for protection against attacks on their settlements.
Stressing that such payments were not enough to stop the attacks, he appealed to the people of the affected communities not to pay any money to the terrorists.
Governor Bello called for the massive recruitment of security personnel and deployment to the state in order to bring the situation under control.
Although he admitted that there were serious concerns about sustaining the fight against the terrorist group, he is optimistic that respite would come to residents of the affected communities in two weeks, with the current level of intervention.
But the governor stated that informants within the communities constitute a major challenge and urged states sharing borders with Niger, including Kebbi and Kaduna to come together in the fight against the criminals.
“We still have some communities where ransoms are being collected,” he said. “We will try to discourage them (residents) from paying such ransoms because even when they pay ransoms, it doesn’t stop bandits from attacking them again.
“When you pay levies to bandits, they use such money to purchase weapons and they come back to attack you.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra has warned the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association members to shelve their alleged move to form vigilante groups in Imo State. IPOB alleged that the herders wanted to continue with their atrocities of killing, abducting, and raping innocent residents in the state by planning to form vigilantes.
It asked the breeders to go and help their governors in the Northern region to fight banditry and terrorism ravaging the region. The Nnamdi Kanu-led group vowed to stop the Northern herders if they insisted to go ahead with their plan. These were contained in the statement by the group's spokesperson, Emma Powerful, obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday. It was titled, "Miyetti Allah Should First Chase Fulani Bandits Out Of Northern Nigeria Before Coming To Imo State To Stop ESN." It stated, "The attention of global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by Nnamdi KANU has been drawn by the ranting of Miyetti Allah, the sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria, boasting that they are in Imo State to stop purported attacks by Eastern Security Network, ESN and IPOB. "In the first place they are stabbing the truth in the head because ESN and IPOB are not behind any attacks in Imo State or anywhere for that matter.
