[quote author=duullie88 post=60207958]Thank u sir... How long will the treatment last ? Can it be added with cloraphenicol(spelling ) I heard white vitamin c boost dia appetite, how true is that??[/quote also try to feed them only twice a day. three times is too much as it might lead to constipation especially when pond is overcrowded. |

dear house, I am aware of the challenges a lot of us have with selling our stocks this period. the main reason is as a result of excess supply of fish in the market. this excess supply came as a result of over stocking by existing farmers and a lot of newbie farmers investing for the first time. we can only help the situation by reducing stocking, not relying on high debt capital especially short term to do agricultural business, encouraging the next generation of newbies to learn the rope and stock small no matter how much they are willing to invest. also our consultants that are after the fees deceiving people to come for training just to earn a living should desist from such. agriculture is not a make money quick venture and real farmers will help without receiving a dime like we do to ourselves on this forum. you will notice that a bunch of consultants came together to fix price of fish on the round table at N600. these are not practicing farmers, they are opportunists that are enjoying govt grants while the real farmers can't make any profit from this price. let's wake up. thank God price is based on the law of demand and supply not the sitting of a group of people. when supply reduces let's see how their N600 will work. if i may forecast properly the price of fish will go up by November cos most farmers that have sold at this price can't come back and the taste buds of consumers have increased, therefore this is the best time to invest and not be discouraged. let me use this opportunity to encourage farmers to freely enlighten us on how they are overcoming this harsh selling time. for me I dry and sell. I also sell to pepper soup sellers. my price is not favourable to the middle men cos of the glut. I also don't wait till harvest. I harvest as soon as I have demand no matter the age of my fish or the quantity demanded. I also advise farmers I meet not to stock their fish at once. farming is not a part- time job. it's an occupation. therefore it is not a venture you put 10000 Fish at once and expect to sell in two days or a week of your leave period. that's one reason for this excess supply. you have to do it slow and steady. you can stock this 10000 as 2500 Pieces every four weeks so that your sales will not put you under pressure. and you can sell one to feed the other. most investors in the agric sector only want to make money and run away that's why they fall into the hands of fake consultants who tell them they can make 100% in 6 months with little capital. note: do u know a real farmer don't have all this time. most of us don't even know the real cost of feeding fish today. let me hint you. 1200 juveniles will cost me N350k to buy and feed alone to achieve an aggregate of 650kg of fish in six months with good feed to get good result if not the kg will be even lesser with formulated cheap feed . this is not inclusive of overhead cost. so press your calculator to determine your selling price and then divide your profit by 6 to get your monthly profit and tell me if those consultants that determined price are farmers. . the glut will soon be over. thanks. |
dear house,
please I need female broodstock around ikorodu axis. urgent.
call/ whatsapp 08183549869
thank you. |
Emysco:dear emysco, kindly go through this thread from the scratch. I am very sure the issue of pH have been discussed. if your pH is temporarily at 4 then know its the weather it will adjust back to normal. its also happening around my area in ikorodu. |
bixton:no . its the coal cover. that's the first layer mesh. but its not necessary if the oven is properly constructed. I don't use it. the deck one is just a flat iron with about three iron rods joined in between to withstand the weight of the deck load. thanks |
Emmafly:more
|
lobell:dear farmers, below are the pictures. pls note- it is not necessary that the same dimension should be used. just work on your budget. u can also use five or six blocks height. the chimney hole is not round open but five or six nail holes through the deck iron plate to prevent excess heat emission. note there is a little hole at the base by the door for inlet of little oxygen to keep the coal burning, the tray hanger is not static to the wall or floor. it is detachable.so u can do cleaning inside the compartment. the distance between the coal and the last tray should be at least fifteen inches apart. you may not need the fire guard/mesh if the oven door is properly constructed to avoid excess air entering. in this case your fish can never get burnt and PAH is almost equal to zero. thanks for your time.
|
Ttalk:dear house, thanks for your comments. the oven is still in use I will surely update pics. two to three days for longer shelve life. when the fish is properly degilled and the oven door is constructed properly to reduce oxygen PAH will be zero. you can use both depending on the construction. you can also use electric stove. it all depends on your preference but I use strictly charcoal and it comes out very perfect and tasty. ovens don't collect fish oil. its a fable that ovens collect fish oil. a properly degilled fish will have no oil except at the tail which is during drying. the big secret about fish oil is that you get it from the degilled remnants of your fish. put the remnants in a big bowl filled with water. the white solid fat layer of the fish remnants will float up. take them, rinse properly, sieve out the water and put the solid fat in a pot. cook until it melts very well but not burnt. take out the shell then that's the oil. I do not encourage farmers to sell it cos it can be used for normal cooking in the home. try it. do u know fifty kg of fish will give you above one litre of fish oil. do you know fish remnants are cooked and fed back to fishes. there fore you are the biggest gainer when you dry your fish cos you throwaway nothing. thanks |
Ttalk:thanks. I will prepare my write up and get back to the house. though the necessary materials are 1 space. may be at the backyard of your house or farm but must be close to water supply for washing the fish 2. iron . a sound welder will handle this aspect. 3. sand and cement. - a good bricklayer will do this. that's all you need. 1 you need to carve out a 2.5ft by 2.5ft space and tell your brick layer to build a single wardrobe style cubi of about 7 to 8 blocks high. the blocks when setting should be filled internally with filling so that heat can be retained for a longer time. 2. tell your welder to come take measurement of the top to construct an iron plate with a chimney like outlet for excess air to pass out for casting the decking. 3. then tell your bricklayer to cast the decking lightly with the iron plate serving as the base. 4. let the welder take good inner measurement and construct a standing tray hanger of about 10 layers. 5 also let him prepare the trays using good iron wire mesh. 6 let him also take a look and prepare a standard checkers plated door or any door of good quality and ensure that it can tightly close without letting out air unnecessarily. 7 tell your bricklayer to fix the door when it is ready.. 8 let your bricklayer plaster all the inner and outer surroundings of the oven 9 get s standard coal pot.. 10. oven is ready . pictures will follow soon but you can ask questions. |
Abuzay2r:the issue of price is based on the law of demand and supply in different value chain. price is also determined by area too. you do not expect someone in ikorodu to patronise someone in badagry unless price is considered to cover primary costs when compared with the one in the immediate locality. therefore we have to work on our value chain. but we farmers are too lazy to climb the value chain and expect others to climb on our behalf. that's where the middle men come in. we prefer to sell our products to the bath women and the aboki melange buyers than going out to hustle for our own customers. who are their customers. the pepper soup people, hotel and dried fish users. therefore the higher you go the better your price but it's not easy at first. so do not expect any price update. it is you that should determine price based on your cost and source of capital. so try this. locate the beer palours and hotels around you and offer them your price. no way it is better than the bath women cos you are the farmer and promise them on time delivery with little price for logistics. also construct an oven and dry your fish. buy nylon and stapler package it and take it out to supermart and shops, companies and schools, parastatals and barracks and you will be surprised. don't wait till harvest. start harvesting little by little. I do not patronize melange buyers cos I say to myself where will aboki enter that I can't. package yourself and don't look like an hungry farmer and you will be surprised where you will enter. just look smart. I can teach any one how to construct an oven free of charge. but its a brick oven which is the best not those glorified iron oven that will still not last. its affordable and the output can be exported cos there will be zero PAH. though most farmers are very secretive with their customers but I tell you customers are everywhere even your neighbour. if farmers determine price its okay but not these aboki melange and bath women. I determine my price 730 and you too can. feed price did not come down. did you determine it. so take note. thanks |
Saintee2009:hi sainte, what is the size of your fish. how long have they been in the pond. what's your water source is it flowing stream or stagnant. when last did you pump out the water. did flood affect your pond. first of all don't feed and get back asap. |
winningbt:we have three types of earthen pond. 1. one with river or spring water flowing in. this one you do not need to change water always except there is an epidemic, it is smelling/ contaminated or during harvest. 2. one without flowing water but having high water level like stagnant water. you need water change at least monthly then weekly when the fish is around four months from fingerlings to harvest in other to maintain good water quality. also when you can perceive odour in the water as a result of over crowding. in this one the water will refresh itself within two days. 3. one without water or needing additional water through pumps. you need to change this constantly cos of dryness as it works like concrete. in this one the water will not refresh itself after pumping out. therefore choose your category and do the needful. if anyone have any question at all on earthen pond / catfish, kindly whatsapp or call 08183549869. its free of charge. |
