GeneralPula:After reading your comment, I went to checkout this adaka Boro and found out that he was indeed a true freedom fighter. The igbos [ me included] have busted their chance of independence and it will never come. Imagine this kind of opportunity back then in power by the igbos and we fluffed it. Ironsi was heading nigeria, ojukwu governor eastern region and adaka fighting for the niger delta, yet they couldn't use their brains instead they were fighting themselves. I am sure Nnamdi kanu did not know this. I only feel sorry for him because even the igbos he is fighting for are his worst enemies. Check out this extract on Wikipedia. Leading approximately 150 volunteer fighters, Boro launched a guerrilla campaign against the federal government. For 12 days, the NDVF resisted federal forces before being subdued by the Nigerian Army under Major-General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, with support from Eastern Region Governor Chukwuemeka Ojukwu. Interestingly, Ojukwu would later lead his own secessionist movement by declaring the Republic of Biafra in May 1967. History should indeed be a compulsory subject in our institutions. |
With due respect to the op, you should have tried to get feedback before the venture and then make your investing decisions. But it seems you have already engaged your investments before looking for advice. I am proud to say I have been following epainos since the times he was on pistotita and fluentinfor moniker and I have never regretted taking his advice on this forum in the agriculture section. Even his criticisms of his are legendary advice if you really don't want to make gross mistakes. All what he has said is correct. The most competitive and riskiest of businesses is agriculture and it is also full of opportunists. Only real farmers who fear God will tell you the truth when venturing into agriculture. I will advise you to avoid extending the lease, do shorter life span crop like the cassava and use the proceeds to acquire a land for longer span crops. Agribusiness is not a get rich quick or wealth flaunt game, it is a business where you pay attention to every detail because the loss in agriculture is irrecoverable. I was gifted a free land to farm and after the first harvest the owner became jealous without me knowing. Owner waited for me to do the next planting and at flowering told me to come and clear my crops that she want to plant corn. I had no choice but to succumb. I wish you all the best. |
There must be such leakage in government to keep everyone happy All this funfair is merely not necessarily in terms of governance. Budgeting billions of Naira just for the owambe is a misplaced priorities.[/quote] |
Dear readers, This thread have actually caught my utmost attention. To me agriculture is the only way out. I am yet to see a comment that has given a way out of the oppression unemployment has caused. People must eat whether unemployed or not. Do agriculture. Learn agric. Think agriculture. Doesn't need your CV before it employs you. Just be proud of it by being shameless and it will pay you bountifully. I learnt a lot of my agriculture from nairaland and YouTube. Talking from experience. Left my job since 2016 and am grateful for coming this far. Urban agriculture is the best paying job so far for any unemployed person. Look for an empty piece of land near you and plant something you know people eat daily. Eg vegetables. And in one month you have overcome the unemployment monster. It will only cost you your labour, time, a sachet of paracetamol, a few seeds and some cheap pesticides. It's a 5x return which no employer will pay. The more you give the 5x you receive. The market are the people around you that are ashamed of being dirty so don't be afraid of how to sell. People must eat. And once you are within the urban, you will be highly patronized cos your crops are fresh and first hand. I do not call myself a farmer, I call myself an agriculturist. It's the new face of farming. It's the new unseen employer. People are ashamed to farm because it looks dirty and hard but so is a gold mine, always looking dirty. While those that love the shame are cashing out. Overlook the shame and become an Agricultural role model in months to come. Thanks for your time. |

Good morning readers, I am adding okra seeds to the mix too. I bought Yeleen okra from technisem. The ugu farm is also going on well. Though the drought has started in my region. The sun is really hot. The land is totally dried. An advice to those transplanting seedlings is make sure you wet the hole before planting the seedlings. Then wet after planting the seedlings. Very important. Emmanuel 08183549869. Emmaflyng - tiktok, youtube, instagram.

amerengues:The big problem is that farmers are only value creators and not value adders. Farmers should try to look at avenues to add value to their output in any way possible. I also think preservation of produce goes a long way too. Like for me, out of experience, I will channel my resources to agro outputs that can be preserved when there is glut or low price. |
Go to adeniji lagos island or ojota |
Omonaijani:@Omonaijani go to adeniji at lagos island or ojota if you are based in Lagos and see for yourself what you want to buy. You will see dealers of whatever agrochemical you want at carton price. Don't let anyone here use you to chop in the name of call me. Nairaland is free for advert for anyone that wants to be called. To others saying he should call them, why not just tell him. Must everyone call you before a problem can be solved online. Imagine if @okoroemeka or anyone who give info here wants everyone to call him/her for information that is benefitting all of us today. |
Dear all, I am creating this topic because of the experiences of farmers in the hands of the so-called middlemen who planted/reared nothing but yet go to farms to buy agricultural outputs at ridiculous prices, not even considering the amount of labour, time and finance including sacrifices that the farmer relentlessly and patiently put in before getting such outputs. Most farmers suffer heavy losses during outbreak of diseases, most plant without even harvesting a single basket, but yet this heartless middlemen will come to your farm and buy the hard-earned successful outputs at a ridiculous price. The most agonizing thing is that they will go out there to the market and sell it at twice/ thrice the cost price and tell end users that it's expensive right from the farm. These end users will in turn be looking at the farmers thinking they are billionaires. They have the most strictest group in the name of union and will milk any Farmer dry if he/she wants to join. I mostly see farmers looking haggard while these middlemen are the ones eating the farmers wealth. The purpose of this thread is to discuss our experiences and find a way forward as this is one major reason why people stop going into farming. For me, I am pained and thinking of a way out. But the littlest thing I am doing as a crop farmer is to do dry season ugu vegetable farming. With this, those middlemen will be the ones competing for the little my farm is producing. I am also thinking of how to join their union this dry season as I will be happily welcomed because of what I have to offer. Also I am looking at how to create a market online this dry season that will sustain me during the rainy season. I am looking forward to hearing from a middleman why they are doing this wicked act. So middlemen come and defend yourselves. Emmanuel- 08183549869 |
Went to the market to get the below herbicides to spray the already planted areas of the farm site. Glyphosate by sygenta and 2,4-d herbicides were bought. Will keep my readers posted. Emmaflyng - tiktok, instagram , youtube.

Pictures from the land so far. The uncleared portion is still wet and thus will be cleared as the water dries up. The cleared portion has been planted.

ideepaul:Hi, is it Trichoderma ? |
Good evening, I have started preparations for the dry season vegetable farming. I will like to use this thread as my update line. Pictures will follow through. 1. The Plan : The plan is to plant ugu seeds in the swamp between now and November ending, then start selling by first week of January down till 2nd week of June. Only leaf will be sold as it is swamp farming, because by the time it will be ready for seed production, the rain might have taken over part of the swamp. A normal swamp is only dry for at most 6 months. But know one thing, you would have made enough money to compensate for seeds. One reason I am going to the swamp is because of irrigation cost. For me setting up boreholes on upland is a bit expensive and labour intensive especially on a short time rented land. But swamp farming makes it all easy. Just dig gutter inside the swamp in case of flash flood which is dependent on area. Part of the swamp that is a bit dry has been cleared while seeds has also been planted waiting patiently for germination by God's grace. While some ugu seeds will be planted in nursery bags and transplanted as the water recede from the swamp surface. The maximum time to transplant ugu from a pure water sachet seedling bag is 21days- this is from my personal experience and research. I plan to plant 2seeds per hole with a maximum spacing of 3ft. More info to come as the journey progresses by God's Grace. Emmanuel. 08183549869 |
