Ndigbo Cultural Society of
Nigeria (NCSN) has called on
former military head of state and
Presidential Candidate of the All
Progressive Congress Major-
General Muhammadu Buhari
(retd) to withdraw from the
February presidential election.

The Igbo Society said General
Buhari should withdraw to save Nigeria
from all ill wishes of 2015.

The group in a statement signed by its
President, Chief Udo Udeogaranya urged
General Buhari to tow the path of
statesman, extricate himself from the
deceits of APC leaders and withdraw with
immediate effect from the presidential
contest, “if he has any atom of
nationalism, gratitude to the country, love
for the nation and progress of our dear
country, Nigeria.”
Udeogaranya said with the permutations
of some international communities, the
strikes of terror against Nigeria and the
internal wounds in the nation, “it
behooves on any Nigerian with the
interest of the nation at heart, to do all that
is within their powers to save Nigeria
from the ill wishes of 2015.

“We advice Major-General Muhammadu
Buhari (retd) to learn wisdom from the
East that have allowed and supports their
brothers from the South-South to complete
their tenure of eight years, as we all have
allowed the South-West to have their
uninterrupted eight years.”
According to the group, “economically,
Nigerian government depends largely on
oil exports and import duties, both are
derived from South Eastern soil and the
people of South Eastern Nigeria, which
accounts for even more developments
around the nation than the South Eastern
Nigeria.

“Therefore any candidacy that may spill
ill feelings to that section of the country
may not be favourable for the nation and
should rather be jettison for the good of
the nation.”

The group opined that Nigeria owes the
South-South people another four years to
complete their full tenure, “as this is their
first time presiding over the nation, which
they have fed for decades and four years
in a nations life is nothing.

The Abia State Traditional Rulers Council has
disowned the traditional ruler of Eziama Aba, Eze
Isaac Ikonne of Aba North for installing the
presidential candidate of All Progressives
Congress (APC), former Head of State, Gen.
Mohammadu Buhari as Ogbuagu1 of Aba
kingdom, saying he has no powers to do so.
Reacting to Ikonne’s action in a press briefing in
Umuahia, the Chairman, Abia State Traditional
Rulers Council, Eze Eberechi Dick, said that Aba is
made up of two Lpcal Government Areas-Aba
North and Aba South and over 400 communities as
a zone while Osusu where Ikonne is resident has a
traditional ruler and therefore Ikonne is
incompetent to give somebody title on behalf of
Aba.

According to him,the Abia State Council of
Traditional Rulers are happy with Governor
Theodore Orji and President Goodluck Jonathan
for their people-oriented governments and
condemned Ikonne over the unwarranted attack
on the Abia State government and the federal
Republic of Nigeria.

He hinted that the council is aware that Ikonne is
influenced to do what he did and shall investigate
it and take appropriate actions.
In his comment, the Commissioner for
Information and Strategy,Dr. ACB Agbazuere
advised Eze Ikonne to desist from his consistent
and incoherent attacks on the state government as
it is subversive.

Dr. Agbazuere said it was wrong
for him to continue to attack the government he is
part of and implored him to resign if he wants to
join politics.

Nigeria: Nobody Gave Us Chance At Primary -
Ebonyi PDP Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship
candidate in Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, while
addressing a crowd at Ekeaja Square in Uburu
community of the state on Tuesday, reflected on
the party's primary election, saying: "Nobody gave
us any chance during the primary elections; the
battle was tough for me.
"I want to thank God for everybody's assistance.
The day the former party chairman resigned, I
cried but today God has given us another party
chairman, the secretary and organising secretary.
It is not that Dave Umahi knows people but that
Uburu people have God. I give all the thanks to
God."

Umahi spoke during a reception for him earlier in
the week where the people of Uburu communities,
in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state
turned the yuletide celebrations to a sort of
political rally for him.

"I will be governor and will rule with the fear of the
Lord; greet Ezza and Ikwo people; Ezza people said
there is no way they will impeach me. I forgive
everybody. We are together. Uburu should write
out what they need so also other communities in
the state.

"I will ensure that all roads are tarred and with
street light fully in place; I will equally ensure
dualisation of roads; my programme will be for
the people and with the people; everybody will be
given accommodation", he stated.
The representatives of the community, including
the Chairman of Uburu Traditional Rulers Council,

HRH Eze Godwin Akpandu, stakeholders,
Ambassador Gabriel Odii, youth organizations,
women groups, clergymen, among others, who
spoke during the occasion, stressed that they were
solidly behind the candidacy of the state Deputy
Governor.

The presidential election signals the final step
towards the enforcement of the United
Nations Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples; meant to protect Ogoni -
one of Africa’s richest homelands in Nigeria.
In his acceptance speech in Bori – Ogoni
Capital, December 27, 2014, Diigbo said the
event marked the beginning of the end of
internal colonialism of the people of Ogoni.
“The Ogoni self-government will pursue the
implementation of the Ogoni Bill of Rights and
full enforcement of the United Nations
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples with a sense of mandate,” he
asserted.
“Agriculture and Security” he said, “have been
chosen as two pillars upon which Ogoni
economic advancement and political
empowerment would stand.”
“It must be clearly evident by now that the
Ogoni self-government declaration made on
the 2 of August, 2012 is irreversible,” Diigbo
stated.

Under his leadership, Ogoni would continue to
build on sacrifices by its past Ogoni heroes,
including late Paul Timothy Naakuu Birabi and
Ken Saro-Wiwa.
He commended the entire Ogoni people for
their long suffering called for understanding,
cooperation and participation by all to build a
society.
Diigbo accepted his election, which came
about through a staggered electoral process
starting at the village, then, District to the
national level.
Others elected, include, a Deputy President,
Hon. (Ms.) Christiana Wiko, two vice
presidents, Hon. John Larwisa – South-South
Secretary of Amnesty International in Nigeria
as the Leader of the Ogoni National Legislative
Assembly.

The Deputy President of Council of Ogoni
Traditional Rulers Association, His Royal
Highness – Mene Samuel Asongho was elected
as the President of the Customary Court
System.
Also elected were eight provincial governors
and their deputies, 33 District Legislators, and
about 200 village council heads.
The agenda of the Ogoni Self-Government will
be fully elaborated during the forth-coming
inauguration.
