Saturday 12, marked the 28th anniversary of football legend Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji’s tragic death.
The dreadlocked Nigerian midfielder slumped and died on August 12, 1989 at the National Stadium, Lagos, during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying March with Angola.
The qualified lawyer, who had a masters in international law from the University of Rome, Okwaraji collapsed ten minutes from the end of the match and died from congestive heart failure. He was only 25.

In reaction to the the attack on former President Goodluck Jonathan image by Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, who asked him to apologize to Nigerians for failing woefully as leader of the Nation, the ex-President has replied the DG, through his media aide Reno Omokri.

Speaking at an event in Abuja, Osita, said going by the financial records, the ex-president and his party railroaded Nigerians into abject poverty, food insecurity, and deficit infrastructure through lanlessness and squandermania.

The appointment of 21 new Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Civil Service has been approved by The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.


This was made known by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr Haruna Imrana, Director, Communications in the office on Thursday in Abuja.

The permanent secretaries are Ehuria Ekeoma (Abia State); Akpan Sunday (Akwa Ibom); Anagbogu Nkiruka (Anambra); Walson-Jack Esther (Bayelsa); Gekpe Isu(Cross River); Aliboh Lawrence (Delta) and Uwaifo Clement ( Edo).

A 49-year-old man, identified as Akinola Olumide has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly collecting N9m from some intending travellers under the pretext of procuring visas for them.

Olumide was arraigned before a magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Olayinka, on 14 counts bordering on theft.

According to Sergeant Donjor Perezi, The Police prosecutor, the defendant committed the offense between December 2015 and December 2016 at several places, including the Ijaiye, Alagbado, Idimu and Ipaja areas of Lagos State.

A man has shocked his family members and friends after he reportedly murdered his fiancee after luring her to a farm.

The Asesewa Police in Ghana is on a manhunt for a man who allegedly lured his fiancee to a farm and butchered her with a machete before fleeing the community, Graphic Online reported.

According to Der Spiegel, a man identified only as Benjamin David of about 40-years of age, jumps into the Isar River and swims two kilometres to his workplace in Kulturstrand.

David used to be one of the thousands of the city’s dwellers trying to make their way to work on busy roads and cycling paths but two years ago he decided that he needed to find a simpler alternative and the Isar River seemed like the obvious answer.

A Nigerian Instagram user @vanladi, has allegedly complained on how how he received brutal beating for confronting a Nigerian governor who delayed their flight.

According to him, his flight from Jalingo to Abuja was delayed for 6 hours because the governor of the state was to join them on the trip. The airline was said to have told them they would be delayed for 30 minutes but it took six hour before they embarked on the journey.

The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has reacted to statement credited to former aviation minister, Femi Fani Kayode concerning the images showing All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftains in Abuja House, London with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Fani-Kayode had described the images as fake and added that Okorocha, who conveyed the message, was a liar.

In his reaction to the former minister’s claim, Okorocha described him as a spoilt child.


The governor responded through his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, saying, “The guy (Fani-Kayode) is a spoilt child, one of those whose parents over pampered they hardly talk like human beings. Apart from somebody who went into government, he is not known for doing business.

“I wonder if he has ever worked and all of a sudden he had political appointment.

“He has nothing else to brandish apart from the father’s name. Remove his father’s name; I don’t think he is a human being.

“Rochas grew from the scratch. By the grace of God and hard work, he is where he is today. But that one apart from coming to politics what else does he have to brandish?”
