PoliticsTax Evasion: Peter Obi Invited, As He Presents 20-Year Tax Clearance by emmy9688(op): 8:50am On Jul 27, 2018
Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi yesterday appeared before the Onitsha Office of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (Tax office) today.

Obi was summoned by Mrs Nwakpudolu Juliet, the Chief Tax Officer coordinating GRA Phase 2 Onitsha as a Senior Business Manager.

Our correspondent on another mission at the tax office was there when Obi entered with his Media Adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem.

Confirming the visit at the tax office amidst heavy down pour at 10 am, Obi said he was summoned to appear before the tax office at 10: 00 am hence he had to run from Lagos to Onitsha to meet up the appointment.

When probed on his feelings on the invitation, Obi said “Nothing to worry. As a citizen, I can visit any office in the country, including those in my state when I have issues to sort out.”

He even commended the conduct of the chief Tax officer who he said was polite and did her duties professionally.

Further, Obi said he was asked to show his six years tax clearance which this newspaper sighted the receipts totaling N205 Million.

‘’I am happy the professional way Juliet conducted herself. It was a first class conduct and this is the kind of person that every International organization should hire. I am sure she was not anticipating that I will answer her summon. But as a good citizen who knows the importance of taxation for government to operate, I honoured her summon.

‘’I wish other people could be like her in attending to clients and tax payers the professional way she attended to me.”

On the issue of tax evasion, former Anambra Governor, Obi appealed to citizens to pay their taxes regularly, lamenting that those evading tax are shortchanging the people and government because government can only do great work for the masses when citizens pay taxes.

He however appealed to government to ensure smaller businesses are not crippled by tax as over burdening of smaller businesses kills them. He said wealthy people should be encouraged to pay taxes adequately.

Mrs Nwakpudolu who confirmed the invitation, said her office requested evidence of payment of taxes in the last six years from the former Governor.

She said the government of Chief Willie Obiano was doing a great developmental work hence the taxes were needed to support him, thus informing the invitation to prominent citizens like Obi.

Mr. Obi came with evidence of payment for the last 20 years and left the assessor regretting that she would have easily met her N80 Million target for the year if Obi had paid such huge amounts he paid yearly to her office rather than Enugu state.

Nairaland GeneralNIGERIANS REACT TO SENATOR’S MELAYE’S KIDNAP, WHAT THEY SAID WILL SHOCK YOU by emmy9688(op): 3:03pm On Jul 26, 2018
Senator Dino Melaye was reportedly kidnapped this morning in Gwagalada on his way to answer his case in court in Lagos.

His colleague, senator Ben Murray Bruce broke the news via his Twitter account, adding that Moses Melaya, Senator Melaye’s brother had given him the information.

Nigerians have however taken to social media to react to the news. While some are of the opinion that the Kogi lawmaker might have been one to stage his own abduction, some others are just plain tired of the various dramas playing out in Nigeria.

NIGERIA POLICE PRESS RELEASE

RE: INVITATION TO SEN. BUKOLA SARAKI, THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE CASE OF OFFA BANK ROBBERY AND GRUESOME MURDER OF MORE THAN 31 PERSONS AND SNATCHING OF 21 AK47 RIFLES ON THE 5TH OF APRIL, 2018.

· The Senate President must honour Police Invitation; otherwise the Force will not hesitate to use all the instruments of the Law to ensure compliance with the law.
· The Force did not besiege the Senate President residence as alleged

The Nigeria Police Force on the 23rd of July, 2018 invited Sen. Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, to report to the head of investigation team at the Intelligence Response Team office at Guzape junction, Asokoro Extension, Abuja today, 24th of July, 2018 at 8am for further investigation on his indictment from confessional statements from some of the five (5) gang leaders arrested for their active participation in the Offa bank robbery and gruesome murder of more than 31 persons and snatching of 21 AK47 rifles on the 5th of April, 2018 but the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria refused to honour Police invitation as at the time of this press release.
2. The Force therefore, insists that the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria is being expected to report to the head of investigation team at the Intelligence Response Team office at Guzape junction, Asokoro Extension, Abuja and should honour the invitation, otherwise the Force will not hesitate to use all the instruments of the Law to ensure compliance with the law.
3. The Nigeria Police Force’s attention was also drawn to the innuendos in the early hours of today that some Police men were seen surrounding the residence of the Senate President; the Force wishes to categorically state that there was no authorised deployment of Police personnel to besiege the residence of the Senate President or his deputy as reported in the media. The police personnel seen in pictures in the media were those in the convoy of the Senate President and others attached to him.
4. However, the Inspector General of Police has directed a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts in the episode. The Force will not allow the end of justice to be perverted by this distraction.
5. The Nigeria Police will ensure that the rule of law prevails in this matter

PoliticsAlvan. A. Ikoku (1900-1971): 10 Interesting Facts About The Man On The 10 Naira by emmy9688(op): 11:41pm On Jul 22, 2018
His face graciously adorns the ten naira note but only few Nigerians know this. Let us take a look at the life of this great man and what could have warranted the honour given him on one of our nation’s currencies.

1. Alvan Azinna Ikoku is the man on the 10 naira note. He was born on 1st August, 1900 to a rich merchant family in the tiny town of Amanagwu, Arochukwu, Abia State, he remains one of Nigeria’s finest educationists. Dr Ikoku was also an activist, nationalist, politician and undoubtedly, a statesman.

2. Although he was an Igbo man from Arochukwu, his mother was an Efik woman from Calabar where he schooled at the Hope Waddell Training Institution.

3. His wife was also an Efik woman from Calabar and an exceptional organist too.

4. Alvan Ikoku and his son, Samuel Goomsu Ikoku (1922—1997), were political enemies. Samuel won an election against his father at the Eastern Regional Assembly elections in 1956.

6. At Aggrey, he introduced Carpentry as a subject, which he called ”the Education of the Hand.” Interestingly, students were able to make their own desks, chairs, and tables all by themselves.

7. In 1955, as National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Ikoku was at the forefront of championing the causes of the teachers and also criticized the educational system at the time for failing to teach indigenous languages.

8. Ikoku was a recipient of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). His contemporaries accused him of too pro-British.

CareerMotivation Friday: Finding Strength In Difficult Circumstances by emmy9688(op):
When unfortunate circumstances hit you, it either breaks/destroys you or redefines/strengthens you.

For Mr Collins Odinaka who lives in Onitsha, the breath of life and being able to still hold his kids was far more precious and important than him losing an arm and a leg.

He shared pictures of himself with his three beautiful children and wife, as he rejoiced he cheated the tragic accident that would have made his children fatherless.

For the sake of the innocent children, he is happy he didn't lose his life.

That is what I call strength in difficult circumstances. Collins' case is really touching because despite the unexpected condition he found himself in, he is thankful and appreciative to God for making him survive a fatal accident which could have killed him last year.

Collins' situation is a lesson to us all. One, we must be strong enough to be grateful in what ever circumstances we found ourselves. Just anything can happen that will change us at the twinkle of an eye and only our inner strength and strong will can keep us going.

And also, another big lesson is that we must live for something and surround ourselves with people who will never abandon us no matter the situation.

Collins lived for his family and in his trying moments he wasn't abandoned.

What you feed your mind is what shapes you. So get into the habit of feeding your mind with positive elements and thoughts because it might be helpful when you find yourself in any circumstances you never envisaged.

Health5 Damning Effects Of Caffeine by emmy9688(op):
1. Prolonged sleep deprivation?
Caffeine is not the answer!

Researchers from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine came to this conclusion after studying caffeine’s effects on their sleep-deprived test subjects.

Taking caffeine to keep awake after a long period of sleep deprivation is a false sense of security.

2. Caffeine may increase the risk of heart attack

According to a study conducted by Dr. Lucio Mos, who were diagnosed with mild hypertension had 4 times the risk of having a heart attack if they consumed the amount of caffeine equivalent to 4 cups of coffee. More moderate consumption showed 3 times the risk.

3. Indigestion!
People who consume caffeinated beverages often report an upset stomach or indigestion. This mainly occurs when the beverages are consumed on an empty stomach.

4. Caffeine reduces Fertility.
Consumption of caffeine is devastating to both male and female reproductive organs. This is supported by a study conducted at The University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno showed that caffeine interfered with the muscular contractions of the fallopian tubes. More so, further research out of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston found that men who consumed 265 mg of caffeine or more had the lowest chance of becoming a father as a result of low sperm count.

5. Caffeine overdose

While some people have lower tolerance for caffeine than others, others may be addicted to caffeine and as a result of this, overdose may occur.
Which could have adverse effects including death, anxiety, heart palpitations (cardiac arrhythmia).

AutosMost Expensive Car In The World, 2018 Will Blow Your Mind by emmy9688(op): 1:55pm On Jul 19, 2018
https://enigeria.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/most_expensive_car_in_the_world.jpg

Sweptail by Rolls Royce – sold for $13 million is the most expensive car in the world. It costs over 4,705,870,000 ( that’s more than 4.5 billion Nigerian Naira)

As expensive as the car, it’s more disturbing to note that this car is off the markets. That’s because it was made on the recommendations of one specific customer whose name the company has refused to divulge. A company famous for its luxurious roll-outs.

Worthy of note is that there were only 4,000 Rolls Royce cars manufactured in 2016, but this particular exclusive car comes with its custom coach work, reminiscent of the royal carriages of yore. Probably modeled on the Wraith, this car can seat only two people (see what they mean by being exclusive?).

The sunroof is fully panoramic, tapering down sharply like those of the racing yachts, as per the orders of the customer. Something very cool about the interior handcrafted with wood and leather are the hidden attaché cases for holding laptops behind each door.

Not much else is available on this most expensive car in the world, except that it is based on the 1920s and 30s models, and looks like a yacht from the back. The owner does happen to be a collector of super-yachts and private planes.

This is arguably the greatest invention of Igbo land, made by the Biafran Research and Production Group (RAP) headed Dr. Felix Oragwu a nuclear physicist during the war.

Inititially, it was designed to be a surface to air rocket to combat Mig 16’s. In a retreat Biafran soldiers ran out of ammunition and used the rockets. The results were amazing. They then became surface to surface.

Major Uchendu led 700 men armed with Ogbunigwe rockets and killed up to 6000 federal troops of the 2nd division commanded by Murtala Muhammad at Abagana along the Onitsha-Enugu highway– March 31, 1968

PhonesThe Phone You Need by emmy9688(op): 9:49pm On Apr 19, 2018
Yes, you must read this. What type of Phone do you want, what type of phone do you need. It’s about the Phone you NEED.

Now, these two questions are widely different.

Economics already taught us the difference between WANT and NEED. Quickly, WANT is a mere wish or attraction to things. It’s more like wishing to be with ‘Beyonce.’ You better wake up. While NEED is a necessity – which you must have. Like a Laptop to a Programmer, like reading this piece to the last letters. I wouldn’t go on to bore you with Economics. Alright?

Straight up, there are roughly three major things that determine the type of phone you need or should buy.

Your job,
Your bank account weight
Your appeal to gadgets.
These three categories summarize and determine what type of Phone you should or could buy.

Let’s go. What are the types of phones available in the market today? Since this is a guide, I will give you a random sample.

The “Basic Simple Phones” capable of merely Dialing and Answering calls, and Text Messages. They can handle the least job of Camera and Video functions. Very Funny pictures and video quality, with Fm Radio.

I can bet that this is the type of phone we prefer to give to our mothers and fathers or Uncles in the village. “Oh no, that’s because it’s strong and…” Hold it there, don’t say further. That’s exactly what you are saying in your mind, but have you ever bought a better phone for them? I guess we are on the same page now.

These Phones are cheap, strong and popular. They are at price range of 4,000 naira to 12,000 naira. The likes of Nokia 330, Itel 383, Tecno 551, Generic 967 etc. You are waiting to hear Nokia 3310, Hahahaha go on and add more, this is a free world, isn’t it? Your parents need better treat.

The Smart Phones:

“A mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, Internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps.” This definition is everywhere on the internet. Yes, I wouldn’t kill myself over you, should I? Don’t worry, when you see a Smart Phone you wouldn’t need a definition to know it.

2018 latest Smart Phones include Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Google Pixel 2, LG V30, HTC U11 Plus, Huawei Mate, Pro, Infinix Zero 5, Tecno Phantom 8. You can add Infinix series. Gionee series, Nokia series, Tecno series etc.

“This guy isn’t telling us the specific names of the phones, huh!” Yeah, don’t go hurt yourself, that’s not my job, fella. You can ask google after reading this piece. I have a game to catch up, care to join me? Hehehe.

Now, back to the topic. You almost forgot this Article is about the “Type of Phone you need.” And there are three categories that shape what you go for.

Your job,
Your bank account weight
Your appeal to gadgets.
Before we jump into the above, let’s consider what actually makes a Phone different from another

The Company/Brand: Traditionally, a product is as good as its producer. Yes, some people cannot buy any phone other than Nokia Brand, Tecno, Infinix or any other, that’s their taste. Some Brands are good with Battery and terrible with camera, some are good with Processor while terrible with battery. Such perspective can make one stick to a brand for sake of Battery without considering its Camera. That’s what I mean; some people wouldn’t buy Infinix even if you could find God inside, so far as Nokia still exists. Lol, Infinix is my Brand; I still have rights to make choices, hehehe.

Battery: No Phone runs without battery, so it’s an important factor to be considered before buying a phone. I still suffer from Blackberry battery trauma after 3-4 years I switched to Infinix. Is it bad to share bad memories? Hell No. You won’t buy a phone whose battery collapses as soon as you pull the charger.

Memory (RAM)/Storage: If you have a phone with good battery and also of your preferred Brand and it has a small Memory or storage space, would you be celebrating? I don’t think so. Memory/storage is a good feature to be considered before you dish out the cash in the store.

Processor: Yes, many people don’t even know that a phone has a processor. I am not responsible for your ignorance; your parents have some questions to answer. Now, you know, check out the processing speed before you buy.

Camera: I agree, I agree we all know about this one. That’s the one feature 80% phone prospective buyers are conscious of. The picture quality defines the phone in a special way.

There are other features like the portability, audio quality, screen size etc.

YOUR JOB:

What you do (Your Job) can to an extent determine what type of Phone you must buy. If you are into IT World, Programming and Video or graphic related fields, you should probably look for a phone with Battery life from 4500mAh, Processor (the more a phone’s processor has cores, the more its mobility increases). There are dual-core, quad-core, octa-core. Ram of 3gb, Storage space of 16gb and above.

If you are a trader, you should go for a simple smart phone with 1gb or 2gb Ram, Memory space of 8gb or 16gb. A menial jobber has no need of the above specifications, rather should go for a moderate Ram of 512mb, Memory storage of 4gb or even 2gb. A student is unpredictable, you should get him or her to sit down and discuss his or her future first, lol. Since students like pictures and videos, their taste is as good as that of an IT guy.

YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WEIGHT: Yes, fellas hello. You guys are why Phones are getting costlier by the day. If your bank account is green and you are a phone freak, you are probably looking for a phone with 32gb, 64gb or 128gb of memory/storage, 4gb, 8gb Ram, Octa core processor, with 5.7 screen size, and battery of 500mAh or above. I think it will cost you hundreds of thousands.

YOUR APPEAL TO GADGETS: Needless to talk about a phone freak. Their specification is futuristic. However, dishing out guides to a phone freak is probably tweaky. It will be based on the above enumerated guides. Don’t get it twisted; loving gadgets is not entirely a bad thing. The one thing that should be considered is the ability to effectively backup the bills.

Finally, before you dish out the cash for the phone, check the Phones that have the specifications you need. Don’t buy because your friend bought; buy because the Phone meets your needs.
