The Will of God The will of God will never take you, Where the grace of God cannot keep you, Where the arms of God cannot support you, Where the riches of God cannot supply your needs, Where the power of God cannot endow you, The will of God will never take you, Where the Spirit of God cannot work through you, Where the wisdom of God cannot teach you, Where the army of God cannot protect you, Where the hands of God cannot mold you, The will of God will never take you, Where the love of God cannot enfold you, Where the mercies of God cannot sustain you, Where the peace of God cannot calm your fears, Where the authority of God cannot overrule for you, The will of God will never take you, Where the comfort of God cannot dry your tears, Where the Word of God cannot feed you, Where the miracles of God cannot be done for you, Where the omnipresence of God cannot find you. |

A WASTED LIFE A certain businessman I knew, whom I will call John, was a very busy, successful merchant. Although he was very prosperous in his dealings, he died when he was only thirty-five. A little before his death, when the doctors had given up on him, some of his friends came to see him one evening. Grimacing in pain, John lifted his head, propping it up against a pillow. After studying the faces of his friends, he spoke to them quite softly: "I see, my friends, the tender concern you have for me by the grief that appears in your faces, and I know the thoughts that you now have about me. You think how sad it is to see so young a man, and owning such a flourishing business, to be delivered up to death. And perhaps, had I visited any of you, when you were in my condition, I would have the same thoughts about you. "But now, my friends, my thoughts are no more like your thoughts than my condition is like yours. "It is no concern to me now that I am dying young, or that I am dying before my business dealings have been completed. These things are now sunk into such mere nothings that I have no name little enough to call them. For if in a few days or hours, I am to leave this carcass to be buried in the earth, and to find myself either forever happy in the favor of God, or eternally separated from all light and peace, can any words sufficiently express the littleness of everything else? "Do you remember our friend Tom? He died, as you know, as he was dressing for a party. Do you think it is now part of his trouble that he did not live until that entertainment was over? Parties and business and pleasures and enjoyments seem important to us while we think of nothing else. But as soon as we add death to them, they all sink into an equal littleness. "If I am now going into the joys of God, could there be any reason to grieve that this happened to me before I was forty years of age? And if I am to go among lost spirits, could there be any reason to be content if this had not happened to me until I was old and full of riches? "When you are as near death as I am, you will know that all the different states of life, whether of youth or age, riches or poverty, greatness or mediocrity, signify no more to you than whether you die in a modest or a stately room. The greatness of those things which follow death makes all that goes before it sink into nothing. "Oh, my friends! Thank God that you are not on your deathbeds as well. Thank God that you have time and strength to employ yourselves in such a life of godliness as may bring you peace at your last hour. Had I now a thousand worlds, I would give them all for just one year more, that I might present to God one year of such devotion and godly living as I never before so much as intended. "You perhaps are wondering why I am so full of remorse and self-condemnation at the approach of death. After all, I have lived free from scandal and debauchery. I have remained in the communion of the church. But alas! What a poor thing it is to only be able to say that I have lived free from murder, theft, and adultery and that I was not put out of the church. The painful truth is that I never had any intention of living up to the teachings of the gospel. In fact, to do so never so much as entered into my head or my heart. I never once in my life thought about whether I was living as the teachings of Jesus require, or whether my relationship with Jesus would be such as would procure me the mercy of God at this hour. "Yes, I know all of the vain assurances given by preachers and the shallow theology of salvation that is so popular today. But I hear even louder the words of our Lord himself, who said: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven, Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock, But every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand." Can it really be said that I have built my life on the rock when I have never so much as intended in any serious and deliberate manner either to know the teachings of Jesus, or to keep them? Can it be said that I have pleased God with the type of life that He requires, even though I have lived without ever considering what He requires, or how much I have done for Him? How easy a thing would salvation be, if it could carelessly fall into the hands of someone like me. I, who have never seriously thought about salvation, even though I have always seriously thought about every business deal I have made. "Oh, yes, when it came to business, I always used prudence and sober reflection. I did everything by rules and methods. I always eagerly inquired into the reasons why some businesses fail, and others succeed. When it came to business, I took every step with great care and caution, considering every advantage or danger that attended it. I studied all the ways and means of being a winner in all that I undertook. "But why did I never take the same attitude towards Christianity? Why did I, who have so often talked of the necessity of standards and disciplines and diligence in worldly business, never once think of any standards or disciplines or helps to carry me on in a life of godliness? "Do you think anything can astonish and confound a dying man like this? What pain do you think a man must feel when his conscience lays all this folly to his charge? When his conscience shows him how regular, exact, and wise he has been in small matters that pass away like a dream? And yet how stupid and senseless he has lived-without any reflection or discipline whatsoever-in things of eternal magnitude? "Had I only my frailties and imperfections to blame this on, I would lie here humbly trusting in the mercies of God. But alas! How can I call a general disregard and thorough neglect of all spiritual life a frailty or imperfection? For it was as much in my power to have been exact, and careful, and diligent in a course of godliness as in the business of my trade. "I could have made use of many helps. I could have practiced many disciplines. I could have learned the secrets and methods of holy living if I had but desired to. "Oh my friends! A careless life, unconcerned and inattentive to spiritual matters is without any excuse. It is unworthy of the mercy of God. It is such a shame to the sense and reason of our minds that I can hardly conceive a greater punishment than for a man to be thrown into the state that I am in, to reflect upon his wasted life, John was going on, but had his mouth stopped by a convulsion, which never allowed him to speak any more. He lay convulsed about twelve hours, and then gave up his spirit. WILLIAM LAW |

it is really painful to see people think this way. well i want to add to the answer given on the issue of trinity. "for there are three that bear records in heaven, the father, the son and the holy spirit, and this three are one" the bible says. no one as ever argue about the word "bible" yet you can never find it in the bible but the root word is there. about trinity again, the BIBLE SAYS IT AND THAT IS FINAL. |
