adebowales: if truly isreal is sincere about rescuing the hostages, it would have sent spies to locate where hamas kept the hostages and then face there with all they use to rescue them, recklessly bombing residents in assumption that hamas kept the hostages among civilians would only attract more hate towards isreal. Now see for almost 2yrs, they couldn’t rescue their hostages, they only killed 45k people that even their own soldiers are refusing to continue the fight due to the aimless bombing of houses In your opinion after invading Israel, murdering 1200 citizens in cold blood and adopting dozens of others, the best way for Israel to show commitment to her citizens welfare is sending out spies to search for those adopted? Is that not a display of cowardice? There is evidence of Israel locating abductees held by Hamas under civilian coverings. Why do you call it a mere assumption then? Was the location of Hamas' operational center beneath the biggest hospital in Gaza an assumption too? |

CSTRR: Arab Americans gave their votes to trump.
They wanted to spite the democrats and they voted for someone far worse. I don't think that was the reason they gave their votes. Trump has always been clear about his preference from Israel. Perhaps they wanted more than ever, the annihilation of terrorists hiding under the covers of their religion to perpetrate violence. |

The north should not get unnecessarily jittery over the tax reforms. When you think about it, Nigeria's GDP to tax ratio is about 10% which should roughly translate to $50 billion. There is still the other 90% which could be spread across different sectors of the economy. So why fight over a paltry 10% when you could get a share from 90% when you deliberately contribute to the economy?
P.S: Nigeria's tax to GDP ratio is low in comparison to the continent's average—15%. I guess this reform aims to close that gap. But how do you prevent these monies from finding their ways into private pockets? Are we putting the cart before the horse? |

sulaak: Nonsense.
Corruption is in the hands of the president.
Tinubu can start with reforms in government institutions by reducing the number of ministries and MDA, scrapping NNPCL, and supporting laws that will prosecute any Nigerians who cannot provide evidence of the source of their wealth.
Tinubu is the corrupt to the very core, travelling to see his Lebanese paymaster in France while the country burns. I wouldn't be outrightly dismissive if I were you. Corruption does start and end at the echelon of government. It stems from our ideals as a people, our attitude towards money. Nigeria is largely controlled by the mammon god and Tinubu as the case may be is just one product amongst a host of others. |

Objectivist04: South will have more if Atlantic ocean is included .
Oga 80% of River Niger and the entire River Benue which are the two major rivers in Nigeria lies in the north with their tributaries.
South is more compact and that is why it appears as if it has more water body .
I just gave you an example of Enugu state that doesn't have a single water body . Dude, your statement is not backed by fact. There are more water bodies in the south, more rivers, wetlands and lakes. The north has no comparison in this. So it's either you don't have all the information or you're being deliberately mischievous. From your education, you could do some simple internet search. You're welcome! |

RecessionistPMB: It's south-south people that has been too docile that i blame. Tinubu want to enrich lagos more through this policy, forgetting that same Lagos was built from the collective resources from all geopolitical zones, as a former capital territory.
If Tinubu is trying to restructure the tax system, why is he not using the same template for the resources generated from other regions? South south, you guys has slept for far too long. The entire federating unit will share the oil money, while lagos will take bulk of tax generated within their state. Yeah, this is one grey area I noticed in the bill. The biggest beneficiary would be Lagos because they generate the most tax. The oil-producing state of the south-south need to diversify their economies. You would be surprised the amount of money that would be realized if they plugged all leakages and appropriate funds to their rightful channels. The 13% derivation they get presently is grossly underutilized, most finding their ways into private pockets. Also, the reps from the south-south region are sitting ducks. They don't speak up for their regions. I remember a time when oil corporations were mandated to site their headquarters in the region they generate their revenues. This was never followed through. So you see, Lagos is benefitting from what could have been accrued to the south. The bill is a wakeup call. All hands must be on deck. |

I don't have all the details of the tax reform bill, but from the little I've read, if this scales, it would be the best legacy the Tinubu-led government will be leaving. There are too many docile states in Nigeria leaching off of others. At least this will get them to sit up, prioritize governance and improve their economies. |
Politics › Re: Tax Reform Bills: Nigerians Earning Below ₦1m Annually Exempted From Income Tax by emmyN(m): 10:44pm On Nov 28, 2024 |
Important clarification: The exemption is for those earning below 1 million yearly, not monthly.
What this means is that only those earning below 83,000 per monthly will be exempted from paying tax. With minimum wage at 70k, the lowest grade worker in the civil service should earn close to 100k, so they are definitely getting taxed as well.
In essence, the bill seeks to shield those living in extremely poor conditions. The irony is that most folks are poor. 150k of a few years back is the equivalent of 500k today. |

MMempire: Dem go use the card just dey remove unnecessary tax from cardholders account. Ideally, you should be able to file a tax dispute if you feel you were unfairly taxed. But the potential bureaucracy in the process considering that this is Nigeria leaves some skepticism. On the other hand, there are lots of folks earning handsomely who barely pay tax. This system should provide a check to that. |
