kikuyu1: Do you have anything more? I was told the actual video of the op would be used as a training curriculum at the AFTC and then be released-then radio silence.
African militaries should adopt strict open tendering processes that involve getting bids from different equipment manufacturers and whereby award of the tender is purely on merit ( performance, cost and delivery timelines). Government to government negotiations especially with the USA will leave us shortchanged. With no competition there is no incentive to reduce cost, transfer technology or deliver the much needed equipment quickly.
Take for example the recent KDF purchase of 12 MD530F aircraft for $253 million that translates to roughly $21 million per plane. This was awarded without an open and competitive process. On the other hand the USA had the Light Utility Helicopter program where the Euro copter UH-72 lakota won the contract beating the likes of MD helicopters, Bell and Augusta West land. The USA is acquiring 345 UH-72 for 3 billion USD translating to a mere $ 8.7 million per plane. This means we are paying almost 3 times as much for a helicopter that is inferior in all aspects compared to the UH-72 and funny enough the Americans are not buying their own plane.
Lets stop kidding ourselves that there is any value for money ,we are being milked dry by such contracts. The little money that we have to spare for military equipment should be used wisely and not wasted needlessly.
newafricaken254: during a joint american/somalia raid in bariire,Somalia. a General dynamics Land Systems ILAV "Badger" (cougar 4x4 variant) MRAP's destroyed in somalia, after IED Strike
There is the possibility that it developed mechanical problems and the americans/somalis destroyed it to prevent its later recovery by the alshabab. It does not make sense for alshabab to be laying down IEDs near their bases
The Kenya air force has received 3 C-145A Sky truck light twin engine aircraft. The KAF had requested for 6 C-145A through the Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program, however only 3 were allocated . The EDA website shows they were delivered on 4/04/2017.
I recently saw new vehicles being delivered at Kahawa barracks possibly the Iveco m40.10 light utility truck. Unfortunately i could not take pics . Afriken254 , fidha 254 and Kikuyu 1 do you have any info on the subject.
Fidha254: I would have thought attack gunships would go to Army air cavalry instead of Airforce
Me too , maybe other factors came into play like ability to carry out maintenance and ensuring serviceability, the air force would be much more capable in those areas
kikuyu1: SIGHHHHH! EMWO1,tell this dude what you know of the MI 28s! I've told him and his crew but they want proof, like pics and/or sources. These Cobras came like a thief in the night-not even a a whisper and they insist if we had them they'd have been seen. What can you tell them?
Some attack helicopters of Russian origin were tested in Kenya ( Ka 50/ Mi 28), however i do not know whether they carried on and procured them.
kikuyu1: I only say what I know and not everything can be validated with pics or links. I'm actually as shocked as You! Imo,gunships should be with the aircav-let me see some guys this end and report back. EMWO1,How many units?
Currently i do not have info on the number of units. Hopefully it is a significant order.
Hypothetically speaking, If we had a repeat of the 1948 war and israel was denied air superiority, how long would they survive a multipronged battle today
Who would be able to deny them air superiority egypt, lebanon, jordan , saudi's, whatever is left of syria and Iraq.... i don't think so. Egypt is struggling against ISIS in Sinai (it's own borders), lebanon and jordan are incapable of mounting any military action outside their own borders, the Saudi's have shown in Yemen that they need American help in intelligence collection, targeting data and maintenance of their assets. Despite the billions invested the Saudis are having a very difficult time in Yemen. A conflict btwn Israel and the Arabs would end very badly for the Arabs, i suspect it would be even more humiliating than the 1967 war.
