Cookies, Caches, and Incognito Mode Explained in Plain English 🌐🇳🇬


Following up on our last talk about phone specs, let’s look at the software side of things. Whenever you open Google Chrome, Phoenix, or Opera Mini on your Android phone, you run into terms like Cookies, Cache, Incognito Mode, and Clear History.

Most people just click "Accept" or "Clear All" without knowing what is actually happening behind the screen. Let’s break down exactly what these browser settings mean, what they do, and how they affect your data and privacy.

I mean, even you reading this mostly do too. Just like you always accept every Terms of Service you see online and never read them.😆😆

1. Cookies
These are tiny text files that websites drop into your browser storage when you visit them.

What they do: They remember your identity and preferences. Cookies are the reason you don't have to type your Nairaland password every single time you open the site. They also track your activity—if you search for "men's shoes" on Jumia, cookies tell Facebook to start showing you ads for shoes.

The Blueprint: Think of a cookie like a visitor's tag given to you at the gate of a high-security estate. The next time you walk past the security guards, they don’t ask for your ID card again; they just look at your tag, remember who you are, and open the gate for you immediately.


2. Cache (Browser Cache)
This is a temporary storage area where your browser keeps downloaded website parts (like images and logos).

What it does: It speeds up your browsing. The first time you visit a heavy website, your phone downloads the banners, fonts, and logos. The browser saves them in the cache so that the next time you open that page, it loads instantly because it doesn't need to re-download those heavy images from the internet.

The Blueprint: Imagine you drink a specific brand of sachet water every day. Instead of walking down to the wholesale market every single time you are thirsty, you buy a full bundle and keep it inside your kitchen. The kitchen is your cache—it saves you time and transport fare.


3. Incognito Mode (Private Browsing)
This place is not only for Step Mother and step son videos naw. This is a special browsing window that does not save your local data.

What it does: When you close an Incognito tab, your phone immediately wipes out the search history, cookies, and forms you filled out during that session. However, it does not make you invisible. Your network provider, internet service providers, and the websites themselves can still see your IP address and what you are doing.

The Blueprint: Imagine entering a supermarket wearing gloves and a plain black hoodie. You walk around, buy what you want, and leave. Your family at home won't know you went to that shop because you didn't bring anything back, but the security cameras inside the supermarket still recorded your face.


4. Clear Browsing History
This is the setting that deletes the timeline of websites you have visited.

What it does: It wipes the record list stored on your phone. If you hand your phone to a friend, they won't be able to see the specific links you clicked yesterday. It cleans up local tracks but does not delete your account data stored on the website's main servers.

The Blueprint: This is exactly like tearing out the pages of a personal diary where you wrote down all the places you visited during the week. The book becomes clean, but the people you met at those places still remember you came around.


5. Site Permissions (Camera, Location, Microphone)
These are the access gates you control for individual websites.

What they do:
They prevent websites from secretly monitoring you. A banking website might ask for your location to verify your transaction safety, while a video streaming site will ask for camera access. If a simple blog site is asking for your microphone permission, that is a red flag.

The Blueprint: Think of site permissions like hiring a plumber to fix your kitchen sink. You give them access to the kitchen, but you lock the bedroom door. If you catch the plumber wandering around your wardrobe, you know something is wrong.

Phone lagging or storage full? Clear your browser cache. It frees up space without deleting your passwords.

Want to browse a site without revealing much? Use Incognito mode. (Although recently, Google is actually asking users to share those cookies on incognito).

Tired of creepy ads following you around? Go to settings and block third-party cookies.

I have installed an LPG/CNG carburettor that also works with PMS (petrol)

Kindly note

Fuel tank emptied via the supply hose .

Scale set to measure lpg as it is consumed in KG

1L of fuel measured out into a gallon and will be poured into gen.

Same amount of load will be applied in both instances .

Timer set to zero.

I will start with LPG.... Will run for 1KG and I will turn it off once it hits 1kg on the scale the
mark the time.

Next will be petrol PMS, it will also run for 1L then I will mark the amount of time it took before gen went off.

1kg of gas = ₦650 (June 12 2023)

1L of petrol = ₦500 (June 12 2023)

Total time of LPG - 197mins at #650/kg

= #3.3/min

Total time or petrol - 106 mins at #500/l

= #4.7/m

Another way of looking at it .

With Gas

By calculation

1kg of gas at 650naira per kg lasted 3.17hours (3hours 17mins)

How many kg of gas per hour
650/3.17= 205.

Cost per hour = ₦205

I.e ₦205 of gas lasted one hour

*With Petrol*

One liter at #500 lasted 1.46mins (one hour 46mins)

Cost per hour= 500/1.46 = ₦342


Conclusion LPG cheaper

Personally gas is so safer than pms any day, but I'll have to put out this warning.

WARNING!!!!

LPG IS FLAMMABLE.

THE GAS LINE AND GAS CYLINDER SHOULD BE KEPT AWAY FROM NAKED FLAMES AND HOT SURFACES.

WHEN TROUBLESHOOTING A PROBLEM WITH YOUR GEN USE PMS ESPECIALLY FOR VALVE AND ELECTRICAL ISSUES.

FINALLY THE END PRODUCT IS STILL CARBON MONOXIDE AND GEN SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN A CONFINEMENT, CARBON MONOXIDE WILL KILL IF THIS HAPPENS.
