DLIs - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AS REGARDS ADMISSION AND STUDY VISA IN CANADA.

Designated Learning Institutions are educational institutions in Canada that have been approved by provincial or territorial governments to host international students.

When applying for a study permit (student visa) to study in Canada, one of the requirements is to have a letter of acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution. This letter serves as proof that you have been accepted to study at a recognized institution in Canada.

Here are some key points to know about DLI and admission in Canada:

Finding a DLI: To apply for a study permit, you must first find a Designated Learning Institution that offers the program you want to study. The Government of Canada provides a search tool on its official website to help you find DLIs across the country.

Applying for Admission: Once you have identified a DLI and the program you wish to study, you need to apply directly to the institution for admission. Each DLI has its application process and requirements, so be sure to check their website or contact them for specific details.

Letter of Acceptance: After you have successfully applied and met all the necessary admission requirements, the DLI will issue you a letter of acceptance if you are accepted into the program.

Study Permit Application: With the letter of acceptance in hand, you can proceed to apply for a study permit from the Government of Canada. The study permit is the official document that allows you to study in Canada.

Eligibility for Work: As an international student studying at a DLI, you may be eligible to work on or off campus while studying in Canada. The study permit will outline the specific work conditions and eligibility criteria.

Compliance and Renewals: As a student, you must comply with the conditions of your study permit and continue to meet the requirements of your DLI. If your study program requires an extension, you will need to apply for a study permit extension before it expires.

It's essential to keep in mind that regulations and procedures might change over time, so it's crucial to check the official website of the Government of Canada for the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding study permits and Designated Learning Institutions.

Nairaland GeneralRe: How to Legitimately Relocate to Canada from Nigeria in 2024 by Enddystar(op):
Hello everyone, someone here requested to know the benefits of going for a 2-year program as against a 1-year program in Canada.

ADVANTAGES OF A 2-YEAR DIPLOMA PROGRAM AS AGAINST A 1-YEAR PROGRAM IN CANADA.

In Canada, both 2-year diploma programs and 1-year diploma programs have their advantages depending on individual circumstances and career goals. Here are some potential advantages of a 2-year diploma program compared to a 1-year program:

1. Comprehensive knowledge and skills:

A 2-year program generally allows for more in-depth learning and a broader range of courses compared to a 1-year program. It provides students with a comprehensive understanding of their field, covering both theoretical concepts and practical applications.

2. Specialization opportunities:

With the additional time available in a 2-year program, students may have the chance to specialize in a specific area within their field of study. This specialization can make them more competitive in the job market and better equipped for specialized roles within their chosen industry.

3. Co-op or internship opportunities:

Some 2-year diploma programs in Canada may include co-operative education or internship components. These programs provide students with practical work experience in their field, allowing them to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings. Co-op or internship experiences can enhance employment prospects and build valuable industry connections.

4. Deeper networking opportunities:

A longer program duration allows for more time to establish relationships with classmates, professors, and industry professionals. Building a strong professional network can be beneficial for future job prospects, internships, mentorship opportunities, and access to a wider range of resources and support.

5. Enhanced career readiness:

The extended duration of a 2-year program often allows for more comprehensive career preparation. Students may have access to additional career development resources, such as workshops, job fairs, and counseling services. They can take the time to refine their resumes, develop interview skills, and gain a better understanding of the job market in their field.

6. 3 years Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP):

Upon your graduation from a 2-year program in a Canada DLI, you'd be eligible for years PGWP. This is not the case with a 1-year program where you'd be eligible for just 1 year of PGWP.

It's important to note that the advantages listed above are general considerations, and the specific benefits of a 2-year diploma program may vary depending on the institution, program structure, and individual circumstances.

Before you make any decision, I advise you to thoroughly research and evaluate the program offerings, curriculum, and potential career outcomes to determine which option aligns best with your goals.

In summary, going for a 1-year program has its advantages too. For example, a 1-year course can help you settle in faster if you are highly skilled and can get a job.

Also, 1-year programs are cheaper and a better option for people on a budget.

The good news is that there are several ways to settle in Canada. The most important thing is getting into the country first.
You can go for a 1-year program, work while studying and save up for a second program to qualify for a 3-year PGWP.
You can also use other immigration pathways to apply for PR with your 1-year certificate.

I have a Bsc and Msc in Business Administration with 12 years of working experience as a Cooperative Administrator in a Cooperative Society in Nigeria. Please is it advisable to go for a diploma course in Business Analysis in Canada(is there a high chance of me getting my visa approval?)
Visa approval is dependent on a lot of factors. I am sure you can get admission to Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate in Business Analytics. Once you have admission, with a good SOP and financial profile, you should get a study visa to Canada.

WHY INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS CHOOSE CANADIAN COLLEGES OVER UNIVERSITIES

In recent years, an increasing number of students from around the world have been opting to pursue their higher education in Canadian colleges rather than traditional universities. Canada has become a popular destination for international students, offering a unique educational experience that sets it apart from other countries.

This article explores the reasons why a growing majority of international students are choosing Canadian colleges over universities.

1). Practical, Job-Oriented Programs:

One of the key factors driving students toward Canadian colleges is their strong focus on practical, job-oriented programs. Colleges in Canada offer a wide range of diplomas, certificates, and vocational programs that are tailored to specific industries. These programs are designed to provide students with hands-on experience and equip them with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the workforce. By emphasizing practical training and industry connections, Canadian colleges ensure that graduates are well-prepared for the job market.

2) Co-operative Education Opportunities:

Canadian colleges are known for their cooperative education programs, which integrate classroom learning with paid work experience. These programs give students the chance to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, gaining valuable skills and industry contacts. Co-op programs not only enhance employability but also provide students with a competitive advantage in the job market. The opportunity to earn income while studying is an added benefit, as it helps offset tuition costs.

3) Lower Tuition Fees and Cost of Living:

Compared to universities, Canadian colleges generally have lower tuition fees, making education more affordable for many students. This factor is particularly attractive to international students who are seeking high-quality education without incurring exorbitant expenses. Additionally, the cost of living in smaller college towns is often lower than in major cities, further reducing the financial burden on students. Affordability, coupled with the opportunity to work part-time, makes studying in Canadian colleges an attractive option.

4) Smaller Class Sizes and Personalized Attention:

Another advantage of Canadian colleges is the smaller class sizes, which allow for more personalized attention from instructors. Unlike universities, where large lecture halls are common, colleges offer a more intimate learning environment. This facilitates better student-teacher interaction, promotes active participation, and enables students to receive individualized support. The close-knit community in colleges fosters a sense of belonging and encourages collaboration among peers.

5) Flexible Admission Requirements:

Canadian colleges often have more flexible admission requirements compared to universities, making it easier for students to gain entry. While universities may have strict academic prerequisites, colleges often consider a broader range of factors such as work experience, portfolios, or interviews. This inclusivity provides opportunities for individuals who may not meet traditional academic criteria but possess relevant skills and motivation. It enables a diverse student body and promotes equal access to education.

Conclusion:

The surge in students opting to study in Canadian colleges instead of universities is driven by several compelling factors. The practical, job-oriented programs, cooperative education opportunities, lower tuition fees, smaller class sizes, and flexible admission requirements all contribute to the allure of Canadian colleges. The focus on industry relevance, affordability, individual attention, and inclusivity has made them a preferred choice for students seeking quality education and a head start in their careers. As the trend continues, Canadian colleges are expected to maintain their appeal among domestic and international students alike.

HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO STUDY IN CANADA IN 2023?

One question I have been asked severally is how much I need to relocate to Canada on a study visa.

I also noticed that 2 categories of people ask this question often.

The first set comprises those who genuinely want to weigh their opinions.

They truly want to know if they can chest it or not.

The second category is those who are just playing.

I mean those "wey just dey play"

And even as you're reading this right now, you belong to one of the 2 categories above.

A lady came to my DM a few days ago with the same question.

When I asked her what his budget was, she replied "I have 500k".

Well, I couldn't help but just smile.

You may want to japa badly but if you cannot afford it, there's nothing you can do.

Many other Nigerians will also want to if they can afford it.

Why am I saying all this?

Just so you can prepare your mind for the task ahead.

Every step of the japa journey requires money. From applying for admission to getting your visa.

However, every money and time spent is truly worth it.

Let us take a look at the 5 compulsory things you'll do with money.

Also, an estimate of how much you need to get your student visa in Canada.

1. Admission application fee

Application fees for postgraduate programs (PGD, PGC, Masters programs) in Canada range between 50 - 150 CAD per program.

So if you're applying for more than 1 program, you will pay application fees for each course

There are also a few colleges and universities that offer free application fees.

2. Tuition fees:

Tuition fees for postgraduate programs in Canada range between 14,000 - 30,000+ CAD per year.

This depends on the type of program or course you want to study

3. Visa application fee:

The application fee for a study permit in Canada is 235 CAD.

4. Medical exam fees:

Every Canada visa application must come with a medical examination.

There are two ways you can do your medicals; upfront and on demand.

Upfront medicals are when you apply to do your medicals before the visa office (IRCC) asks you to do so.

Secondly, you can wait for them to schedule you for medicals before doing so. Either way is fine and acceptable.

There are two medical providers in Nigeria currently; the IOM and Qlife.

Note that you will need to book an appointment before proceeding with medicals.

Medical costs about CAD 170 for an adult which is around N60,000.

5. Biometric fee:

Costs 85 CAD per person or 170 CAD for a family if you're applying together

Two other items you need to budget for are proof of funds and flight ticket fees.

While you need to show proof of funds to apply for a visa, you may only buy a ticket when your visa has been granted.

In conclusion, you'll need between N4m - N5m to successfully relocate to Canada on a study visa.

The total amount you will need is dependent on so many factors;

Such as whether you're applying alone or with a family

The school, program of study, and province you intend to land.

And many other factors.

Just take your time to make your research, ask questions, and be ready to go through the steps.

I wish you success in your japa journey

Do you have any questions? Feel free to ask

The Canadian government on Friday, announced a new policy to speed up the approval of family reunification applications, just a few days after the UK government banned students from Nigeria and other foreign countries on study visas from bringing their families into the country.

Announcing the development, Canadian immigration minister, Sean Fraser explained that the new measures were implemented to strengthen family reunification in Canada.

PG reported that the new system would enable spouses, children, and parents of recent immigrants to join their loved ones in Canada faster.

The immigration minister noted that the new policy uses advanced analytics and technology to process Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) applications for family members of permanent residents and citizens in 30 days.

He added that the method had accepted 98 percent of TRV applications from spouses and their children far in advance.

He also announced a new program that will grant open work permits to spouse applicants and their dependent children, regardless of whether they applied under the Family class as an overseas applicant or as an applicant for a spouse or common-law partner in Canada.

Similarly, according to a new policy announced by the British government on Tuesday to reduce migration, Nigerians and other foreign citizens with study visas to the United Kingdom would no longer be allowed to bring in their families from January 2024.

Only a small percentage of international students who go to the UK to study will still be permitted to bring their partners or children with them starting in January of next year, according to the new policy.

Please I have a very important question to ask. My friend in the US, she’s a manager in an aerospace company and she wants to offer me a job in the company, she ask me to get my passport ready so she can give me an employment letter to show that am being offered a job, so I told her that I don’t know anything about aerospace because am a crane operator, so she said the company is will to train me before I could work. And I don’t have any school degree. So pls my question is what kind of visa am I applying for and is it possible without a school degree. Please help am kinda confuse😞
If you are offered a job, it then means you'll have to apply for a work visa. However, I can't tell if it's possible to work in the aerospace industry without a degree. The only thing I can tell you is to be very careful especially if you don't know her personally. Thank you.

Does it matter if the company where you worked is inactive on the CAC website?

Would Ircc verify the company on CAC or they just verify that you worked there irrespective of the status on cAc website
No, it does not matter except if you are the owner. A company shows as "inactive" in the CAC search report if the company has not been filling its annual returns.

NSCN ANNOUNCES A FIRST IN CANADA LICENSURE PROCESS FOR FOREIGN NURSES COMING TO NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA

As Nova Scotia’s nursing regulator, the Nova Scotia College of Nursing’s (NSCN) role is to ensure that all nurses providing nursing services for Nova Scotians are qualified to do so. The public can depend on NSCN to license those who meet registration requirements and demonstrate they have the knowledge, skills, and competence required to safely and ethically practice as a nurse.

Over the coming weeks, NSCN will implement a new first-in-Canada approach to registration and licensure that will establish a fast and predictable pathway to licensure in our province. Registered nurses who demonstrate good standing and good character and are licensed in Canada, the Philippines, India, Nigeria, USA, UK, Australia, or New Zealand, are eligible for registration and licensure in Nova Scotia immediately with no additional requirements other than passing the entrance exam. Using an equity lens, the newly developed approach yields consistent and predictable licensing outcomes for nurses educated in Nova Scotia, Canada, and seven specific countries that equate to 87% of NSCN’s current international applicants.

How to Apply for your Nigerian International Passport Online.

An international passport is one of the most important documents you need to travel abroad journey. For you to travel out of Nigeria (japa), you must have a Nigerian passport. It doesn't matter whether you're going to work or study abroad.

Ordinarily, this document is one you should get without any stress. Unfortunately, Nigeria is a country where virtually everything is difficult to get including a passport.

I have heard stories of people who had to wait for several months before receiving their passports. What about those who got sc°med because they tried to cut corners?

In sane climes, this should not be so. All you'll need is to apply online, or simply book an appointment and visit the office.

The Nigerian Immigration Service has repeatedly assured Nigerians of seamless passport processes. One of these is the introduction of the online passport application portal (ePassport).

To apply for a Nigerian international passport online, follow these steps:

1. Visit the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) website at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/

2. Click the "Passport Application from within Nigeria" button if you're applying from Nigeria. Otherwise, click "Continue" for other options.

3. Select Passport Type, your age range, State and the passport office you wish to go for capturing, and the number of booklets.

4. Select the type of passport you want to apply for (32-page or 64-page).

Note that the prices are different too.

5. Fill in the application form with your details and upload a clear passport photograph.

6. Review your application and submit it.

7. Pay the passport fee using a debit card, and print the payment receipt.

8. Book an appointment at the nearest immigration office for biometric data capture.

9. Attend your appointment at the immigration office with original copies of your documents. The documents you will go with are; a printed application form, payment receipt, and original copies of required documents such as birth certificate, valid ID card, and proof of address.

Note: It is important to ensure that all information provided is accurate and complete to avoid delays or rejection of the application.
