Abubakar Tsav threatens Kanu, others, says 'those who call for Biafra may not be alive if Biafra comes into existence' One of Buhari's top loyalist and former Lagos State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav has again faulted the barrages voices calling for the restructuring of Nigeria saying that such a move will not yield any dividend in the end. He made the disclosure in an interview with Daily Sun newspapers where he covered a wide range of issues and challenges facing Nigeria. The former Lagos Police boss reiterated the need for Biafra-secessionists to drop their agitations saying that those who agitate for a breakaway Biafra state may not be there if in the end, Biafra comes into existence.'' Below is an abridged version of the interview with Daily Sun: Excerpts: And with all the agitations coming almost from all parts of the country, do you still stand on your position that there shouldn’t be any restructuring of the country? You see, if we say we must restructure this country or divide it so to say, so that every component part should go, we may not be at peace for a very long time because we have intermarried and made friends from many places and many people are living in other places other than their places of origin. If we agree to restructuring, then we might have to say everybody should return back to his or her place and that may be the beginning of war amongst us. Those who are saying these are the same set of people who are agitating for states. They are agitating for states all because they want to lead in those states to steal money. Even those who are today crying for Biafra, they may not even be there if in the end, the Biafra comes into existence. I think God created Nigeria the way it is and I know that God does not make mistakes. Almost two years into Buhari’s government, would you say he is on the right path of taking this country to the Promised land? People are complaining that many who fought for him and those who campaigned for him have not been appointed into offices. You can also see that certain allegations are being made against some of his very close aides about corruption and the rest of them and this is very worrisome. So, if he had brought the right people to work with him, maybe he would have achieved better. Now, the situation in which we are is that he himself does not seem to trust any of his aides and one cannot succeed in such a situation. And the success of any leader in any given environment depends on the people surrounding him. If you bring people of questionable character around you, you cannot achieve anything because it is like you are building and they are destroying. And the thing is you have been encircled by these people and you have no contact with people outside to tell you exactly what is happening. And if anybody comes to see you, such a person must go through them. And if they like, they can block such people from seeing you. This is the problem we have. If I were in position, I would employ anybody from any part of the country and regardless of which area he comes from. Because this country is sick and we really need to do something to save it from total collapse. http://www.globalnewscity.com/2017/01/abubakar-tsav-threatens-kanu-others.html

MEDELLIN, Colombia (AP) — A chartered plane with a Brazilian first division soccer team crashed near Medellin while on its way to the finals of a regional tournament, killing 76 people, Colombian officials said Tuesday. Five people survived. The British Aerospace 146 short-haul plane, operated by a charter airline named LaMia, declared an emergency at 10 p.m. Monday (0300 GMT) because of an electrical failure, aviation authorities said. The aircraft, which had departed from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, was transporting the Chapecoense soccer team to Medellin's Jose Maria Cordova airport. The team, from southern Brazil and which had started its journey in Sao Paulo, was scheduled to play Wednesday in the first of a two-game Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional of Medellin. It wasn't immediately clear if the team switched planes in Bolivia or just made a stopover with the same plane. "What was supposed to be a celebration has turned into a tragedy," Medellin Mayor Federico Gutierrez said from the search and rescue command center. The club said in a brief statement on its Facebook page that "may God accompany our athletes, officials, journalists and other guests traveling with our delegation." Brazil as well as South America's soccer federation extended its condolences to the entire Chapecoense community and said its president, Luis Dominguez, was on his way to Medellin. All soccer activities were suspended until further notice, the organization said in a statement. Elkin Ospina, mayor of La Ceja, near where the crash took place, said rescuers working through the night had been heartened after pulling three passengers alive from the wreckage. Authorities and rescuers were immediately activated but an air force helicopter had to turn back because of low visibility. Heavy rainfall complicated the nighttime search, and authorities urged journalists to stay off the roads so ambulances and other rescuers could reach the site. Images broadcast on local television showed three male passengers arriving to a local hospital in ambulances on stretchers and covered in blankets connected to an IV. All were apparently alive and one of them was reportedly a Chapecoense defender named Alan Ruschel. The plane was carrying 72 passengers and nine crew members, aviation authorities said in a statement. Local radio said the same aircraft transported Argentina's national squad for a match earlier this month in Brazil, and previously had transported Venezuela's national team. British Aerospace, which is now known as BAE Systems, says that the first 146-model plane took off in 1981 and that just under 400 — including the successor Avro RJ — were built in total in the U.K. through 2003. It says around 220 of are still in service in a variety of roles, including aerial firefighting and overnight freight services. A video published on the team's Facebook page showed the team readying for the flight earlier Monday in Sao Paulo's Guarulhos international airport. The team, from the small city of Chapeco, was in the middle of a fairy tale season. It joined Brazil's first division in 2014 for the first time since the 1970s and made it last week to the Copa Sudamericana finals — the equivalent of the UEFA Europa League tournament — after defeating two of Argentina's fiercest squads, San Lorenzo and Independiente, as well as Colombia's Junior. The team is so modest that its 22,000-seat arena was ruled by tournament organizers too small to host the final match, which was instead moved to a stadium 300 miles (480 kilometers) to the north in the city of Curitiba. "Chapecoense was the biggest source of happiness in the town," the club's vice-president, Ivan Tozzo, told Brazil's SporTV. "Many in the town are crying." ___ Joshua Goodman reported from Bogota. Associated Press writer Mauricio Savarese contributed to this report from Rio de Janeiro. https://www.yahoo.com/news/colombia-authorities-responding-plane-crash-052732692.html

But these prison sentences are likely to be suspended as it is common in Spain for first offences for non-violent crimes carrying a sentence of less than two years. The Barcelona court found the Argentina international and his father Jorge Horacio Messi guilty of using companies in Belize, Britain, Switzerland and Uruguay to avoid paying taxes on 4.16 million euros of Messi's income earned from his image rights from 2007-09. The income related to Messi's image rights allegedly hidden includes endorsement deals with Danone, Adidas, Pepsi-Cola, Procter & Gamble or the Kuwait Food Company. Messi, 29, a five time FIFA World Player winner, was fined 2.09 million euros while his father was fined 1.6 million euros. They can appeal the decision to Spain's Supreme Court. Both Messi and his father, who has managed his son's affairs since he was a child, were charged with three counts of tax fraud. Messi told the court during the four-day trial that wrapped up on June 4 that he trusted his father with his finances and "knew nothing" about how his wealth was managed. Prosecutors had asked for Messi to be absolved, arguing there was no evidence that the player was aware of how his income was managed. But the state attorney representing tax authorities in the trial, Mario Maza, said he found it unlikely that Messi knew nothing about the situation. "There is no deliberate ignorance here, it's fraud and that's all there is to it, because he didn't want to pay his taxes," he said. "It's like a crime boss. At the very top is the bigwig who doesn't want to know about the details." The court agreed, arguing in its ruling that Messi "had decided to remain in ignorance". "Despite all the opportunities available to the player to show interest in how his rights were managed, he did not," the court added. Messi and his father made a voluntary payment of 5.0 million euros -- equal to the amount of the alleged unpaid taxes plus interest -- in August 2013 after being formally investigated. After the court delivered its verdict, Barcelona issued a statement "giving all its support to Leo Messi and his father". "The club, in agreement with the government prosecution service, considers that the player, who has corrected his position with the Spanish tax office, is in no way criminally responsible with regards to the facts underlined in this case," it added. Messi is Barca's all-time leading goalscorer. During his time with the club, he has won the European Champions League on four occasions and eight Spanish league titles. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/barcelonas-messi-sentenced-21-months-tax-fraud-111336062--sow.html
