Politics › #abolishquotasystem by enlightenedmind(op): 12:43am On Apr 18, 2016
The idea os quota systems in Nigeria has simply led to favoritism and mediocrity over competence. We cannot allow this to continue. People who assume political offices must be have formal education and pass with good grades in a related field that is relevant to the said "Office". The quota system has caused nothing but acceptance of failure and encouraged people to remain uneducated. we must abolish this virus in our system.

So Ghaddafi became America's enemy because he dumped the dollar shey? Assad too signed deals with China is why they oppose him? Chavez' enmity with America too stems from currency swap deals with China. Some of you guys should be a little bit more reluctant to embarrass yourselves abeg.

You said his blind lust for power made him sign a deal that the people that can take him out won't like. Why are you contradicting yourself. The lust for power according to you would have made him do the West's bidding which according to you is not to deal with China. He's calling with China, you're still saying it's his list for power. There's no part of you that's saying he did this for the good of the country despite the fact the west will be pissed. Our great country has been plagued with the infestation of corruption and propaganda by a certain political elite than have greatly sidelined all people of this land. It is almost like Nigeria has not even existed for years. APC, PDP, APGA, ACRONYMS.. all represent the same set of corrupt political class.

A number of new youth political parties have been rising over the years and this is the best time in Nigerian History.
We must be agile to curb corruption and ensure infrastructural development.
We must also ensure massive investments in child and youth education and training.
We must build our technical sector to meet modern standards.
We must completely scrap the idea of loans, aids, pledges from anywhere china, russia,US,EU.
We must provide a platform where all Africans can feel like they belong to a society that cares for them.
We must also instil the spirit of loyalty, patriotism and honesty in society
Finally we must define new laws that meet the requirements of the current population and establish a system for transperency, innovation and self-sufficiency.
We will establish trade systems between and within African states and countries that encourages productivity and management of state resources and development of state youth.

Please drop ur contact so we can form these new era together. Because I am honestly tired of this political class and their lies and propaganda and corruption. There are 3 youth groups now. Let all youth parties dominate in 2019.
Drop ur numbers/emails

Ok. it's a gradual process just like other states are now producing local rice. What government does is to place ban on certain products that can be produced locally or hike the tariffs on foreign products. For example if a local bag of rice is N5,000 while foreign is N25,000 provided the local product meets local demand, the demand for foreign products dies naturally. Ipod are industrious and contributing massively to Nigeria economy but that are be stigmatised and sideline. That's why you see them fighting for Biafra. Biafra will die naturally when they are carried along in all ramifications
Not sigmatized just that we do not trust. You have to understand that every Nigerian carries a different side of the Biafra war with them. For some it was the sight of hungry dying children, for some it was the long walks to the biafra territories and being turned back by Biafran soldiers as not really 'Igbos', for some it was a war for oil, for some it was a war btw Christians and muslims, for some it was like nothing happened and for some they have to deal with the fact that they lost the war.

Biafra affected everyone. For most Nigerians we are simply scared and do not trust the Igbos. Some feel that the SE can "demand" the presidency. The presidency requires traits of patriotism and sacrifice for every Nigerian. And i will ask the questions at the risk of being banned but since no one will i will.

1) If we vote in an igbo president, do we have to worry about where his loyalty lies? "To his people' or "to the nation"

2) If we vote in an igbo president, do we have to worry that they might sign off Biafra and destabilize this nation we have suffered in?

3) If we vote in an igbo president, are our foreign policies going to be aligned with the west at the detriment of "all" nigerian people?

4) If we vote in an igbo president, are our policies going to be made in favour of igbo states rather than national interests?

5) Can we trust the Igbo president to defend the fulani/hausa/muslim children if need be putting aside religious/tribal sentiments?

AND THIS IS WHAT IT BALLS DOWN TO. I am a catholic benue youth living in lagos. insult PMB and the fulanis all u want and call them "backward dull fundamentalist ancient", "scream till the skies fall down" whatever, but I do not have any problems voting in a fulani, hausa, yoruba, ss,sw,middle-belt person because regardless i can say their loyalty is to country or at least a cabal of corrupt politicians that have nothing to do with tribe. AND THIS IS THE FUNDEMENTAL.

They cannot "DEMAND" the presidency. we have 180 million lives to think about here. I believe that when they show Nigerians that they can be trusted to look out for everyone in this country and stop this crazy talk of 'Biafra", "indigenization", "Nigeria the zoo" and destroying Nigeria, then we can begin to have a conversation. All i see now are meaningless rants not leading anywhere. Most of the igbos do not even understand their problems.

Every other tribe in Nigeria in some ways regardless of our political differences identify as Africans first. And this is what we must consider. How would this break up affect us as Africans?

One thing you may have noticed is all books written pre and during colonial era all mention Igbos and speak highly of them.

I have said and will continue to say this...Igbos are not ordinary black people; whites are aware of this as clearly evidenced in the words of the author. Give them Biafra and watch them build a civilization never seen before in a black nation. Give them 20 yrs, they will be in space to hang Biafran flag. Well that analysis is completely flawed. It has conveniently omitted the part where "America control Iranian oil fields now". So when u say Iran is about to be a major oil exporter, u mean America is about to be a major oil exporter. If Nigeria leaves itself vulnerable as to allow the importation of American oil into this country, we are heading for doom. So We have our oil, let us refine it and if possible sell at a reasonable price to other African countries so they do not become slaves.

We must eliminate corruption at all cost. Nigeria has lived in a fantasy for years. While other African countries were fighting for their freedoms, we were desillusioned into thinking we were free. The south africans are screaming for equality, the zimbabwens are screaming for elimination of oppression and kenyans are screaming for democracy. Nigerians are not independent from this. We are screaming for a transparent society.

In the words of Kwame Nkrumah, no one is going to hand freedom to you, you have to take it.

We must criminalize corruption at any cost, this year, in Nigeria.

Sad.
I am for full autonomy IF STATE GOVERNORS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STRIKE FOREIGN DEALS. ALL FOREIGN DEALS MUST BE MADE FROM THE TOP. THIS SHOULD BE CRIMINALIZED IF WE ARE TO GO FOR FULL AUTONOMY.

The last thing we want is states selling off resources to foreign countries at the expense of Nigerians. u know how these western countries are.

Or what if, states get a specific percentage of what they put in. Like may be "60%-40%" Federal-State. So this would force all states to be useful, not depend on one specific resource and ensure that oil states get their due benefits? My problem however is that oil states are currently ruled by PDP. I have no problems with them if u guys trust them but PDP does not exactly have a good record.

Why is there so much hate on here?

The alleged "Igbo" coup of 1966 is always wrongly perceived. There were Yoruba generals among the plotters and Major Nzeogwu couldn't even speak Igbo having lived in Kaduna all his life. I researched and found out that the reason Southern leaders escaped was that the people meant to execute the coup in the south did not do their part. Only Nzeogwu did his part, and that was to handle the Northern leaders.

Mind you, at this point Nigeria was a cesspit of corruption. But still, that doesn't justify a coup.

After Ironsi was was overthrown 50,000 ethnic Igbos were killed in the Northern regions. Just absorb that number: 50,000. No formal investigation was carried out, and all he countries leaders turned a blind eye. Also, the majority of qualified workforce in Nigeria was Igbo, and so the Igbos were in large numbers in the civil service, academia, etc. All of them fled their posts and returned to the East.

Ojukwu then met with Gowon to discuss the mass killings of Igbo guys. The result of their meeting was the Aburi Accord. However, 5 months after their meeting Gowon was yet to implement the resolutions. So the East got restless and put pressure on Gowon to declare Biafra and seced, and he did it.

Mind you, this secession came about because the Igbos were backed into a wall. What can you do when the country you fought hard to get independence turns its back on you and rejects you?

The ensuing Civil war that followed led to the death of 3 million Igbos. let that number sink in: 3 million.
Now the Biafran army was not up to 300,000 soldiers, but there were 3 million casualties, which means that most of the casualties were civilians.

After the war, the Igbos were very impoverished and low on morale.

In 1970 the Finance minister froze all Igbo-held bank accounts and took all the cash they held, an obvious act of ethnic hate. A flat sum of 20 pounds was given to every Igbo person with an account, regardless of the amount the bank account previously held.

In 1972, the Indigenization decree was promulgated. This opened up large amounts of foreing businesses for Nigerian investors.
Guess whcih group of people couldnt participate in this investment because all they had was 20 pounds? Oh yeah, Igbos.

I've been researching these issues and there are so many things i'd like to point out, but not enough time.
Have Igbo's ever wondered why it is only them that have problems in this country? U pple will be ur own undoing n no one will feel sorry for u.Smh.

No my Dear. First thing first, join other States, SS inclusive, to pressurize the Legislature to find a common denominator to GRANT FULL AUTONOMY TO STATE GOVERNORS. They are Governors, heads of Governments, and if you endevour to understand futher, these Governors have absolute Powers on their Governments. After that, we, I mean, Nigerians, will find mergers, bi-latteral and multi-latteral much easier and healthier for Nigeria and her neighbours.
I do not support full autonomy because we still have corruption. There should be a nationalist and socialist bill that require states to take charge of ensuring regions r not marginalized. The resources must be managed at d federal level. Autonomy means states can make decision s on foreign policies. No way. That is deadly. States can have d power over how the benefits of resources is allocated but not how it used. That must be at d top. What we really need is to begin to train good leaders. Patriotic authoritarians with democracy at civil level. Not at the top.

Ignorance is really a disease.
In this day and age, one retarded fellow is talking about natural resource. Kindly ask yourself, what good has natural resource contributed to the poor masses in Nigeria and Africa?
Except for the political class who have direct access to the wealth derived from natural resources, how has the average denizens benefited from it?

In this case, you talk about oil in the Niger Delta region. Are you too stewpid or too blind to realize how the poor farmers and fishermen in that region have become destitutes due to oil spillage and environmental degradation?
Has your crude oil bettered their lives?
Has it given them better healthcare facilities?
Has it helped reduce maternal mortality and increase life expectancy?
Has it helped bring your people well tarred roads and portable drinking water across communities in the Niger Delta?

If you are an educated youth, with access to the internet and you can follow developments in the western world, yet make this sort of arguement, you should apologize to your parents who wasted scarce resources to give you an education. You have nothing to offer.

Europe is developed today, and yet they have very little to absolutely no resources compared with Africa and Nigeria. See how China has rose to conquer the world today? Is it because they have so much crude oil or gold or diamonds?
Of course not. Development today is driven by HUMAN CAPITAL. This refers to the ideas and potentials enlightened people can come up with that would bring about massive and positive changes.

Mark Zuckerberg and the massive wealth and employment he has created is a product of human capital development.
UAE has become a major player in the Middle East. They diversified from oil, and focused on other areas of development. Their greatest asset today is the quality of human capital they are able to attract from across the world. That dusty desert of the past has become one of the world's leading tourist destinations today. Your political leaders go their to lavish your oil money and come back home to have you lick their ass to boot!

Human capital made the USA a world power, not their natural resource.
If after reading this, and you still chose to swim in your crude oil, then your hopelessness is beyond redemption. I want you to remember that Nigeria was a great country until crude oil was discovered. Crude oil made us to stop using our brain, which was our greatest assest. And that greatness was derived from human capital....the humans who used their expertise to develop agriculture and trade.

After the devastation from the civil war of 1967 to 1970, the entire Igbo land was left in ruins. Now look at the little developmental strides they have been able to achieve, without government intervention. Onitsha, Enugu, Owerri, Awka, Aba and so on, can be stand proud when you compare them with other major cities and state capitals. Did these states get larger allocations from crude oil after the war? In fact, all the millionaires in Igbo land were reduced to paupers after the federal government confiscated their assets and handed them £20 each. With their bare hands and their brains, they built themselves up. THATS WHAT HUMAN CAPITAL CAN DO.
Your problem isn't what Biafra wants or doesn't want. Your problem is ignorance.
Wake up and smell the coffee. Your software hasn't been updated since the 80s. Perhaps you hope to be a future leader of your people someday. Focus on crude oil just like your past leaders did, because you have shown you got nothing else to work with.
Europe and us is developed bcoz they stole resources and still steal from everybody in d world. For development a country needs labour resources. If Europe did not steal u think they will have anything. Look at d GDP of Britain of late as many countries pull out of their so called British Commonwealth. U need to really educate itself. Oil uranium if u ain't for those u r not on the world map really.

[b]During the days of regionalism in Nigeria, the southwest had cocoa & sea port, the North was doing great with groundnut pyramid and agriculture while the Southeast had nothing but little deposits of coal in Enugu which has since gone extinct. In this modern Era, if the country were to be divided, Lagos alone is enough to carry the southwest coupled with cocoa and gold deposits in Osun and other SW states. The north has livestock and agriculture to sustain their economy. The south south has huge deposits of oil and gas to sustain themselves while nothing can be said of the southeast cos presently the region is contributing virtually nothing to the federal purse. The point here is the Igbos are the one's benefitting the most in our united Nigeria due to their limited natural resources. They are the most travelled tribe in the country and well accepted and shown love by every Nigerian. They should be glad other regions are covering their resource deficiency under the umbrella of Nigeria. Biafra is not what the igbos need but to look inward and correct their political miscaculations. The igbos dont have the resources to stand alone as a country and that is why they mostly merge the SS to their biafran dream so they can dominate and control their oil as the majority. We would not want a refugee crisis to occur within our borders due to hunger and unnecessary power tussle. It is better we remain united as a family in one Nigeria.

God bless Nigeria
