Blackteeth: I guess the posters who watched the video are not in Nigeria. How many Nigerians can watch a YouTube video of 2 hrs 30 mins with cost of data bundles we have down here.
Please compress the video to 6MB.
Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing. 2hrs 30mins won't go easy on our data bundle here.

I really want to watch this.

I have tried as much as possible not to click on d video link..
it was unplanned and so unexpected for me while watching the NTAi news at 9pm when they showed a 5sec clip of the young men being burnt alive. Suddenly, I understood the rage and anger Nigerians felt and still feeling. I am distraught and can't help feeling part of their families and friends grief.
I do not know if the boys were guilty or not but I am certain that no human deserves jungle justice...if taking the law into their hands is what ALUU folks are guilty of, then they must certainly pay for it long enough for them to have a sober reflection of their callous and very wicked act.

We must not rest until justice is served.

NYSC / Re: Is There A Punishment For Deserting NYSC? by envee(f): 12:50am On Sep 30, 2012
lippyrat: can someone please tell me the process of nysc remobilisation??

do u get to remain in the state u were or u get sent to another state?
does it mean u repeat the whole one year ??
do u get to repeat the 3 weeks camp
do u get paid if u get remobilised

i will really appreciate if u can tell me all u know about it . thanks

The NYSC re-mobilization process is quite easy but can be time consuming..one way to go about it is to visit the state secretariat at your previous state of deployment asking to be re-mobilized. Do the necessary documentations and you might be asked to see the disciplinary panel(if need be). The NYSC officials will then forward your file and request to Abuja from where the whole paperwork will be processed. You will be notified when you have been re-mobilized by the officials when they get a response from Abuja and then you are good to go.
(N.B: this is just one way to go about it. There might be other ways. Hopefully, more ppl can shed light on this)

I do not have accurate answers to your questions but I'll try to tell you the little I know...

a) Usually, the corp member is re-posted to his previous state of deployment except the corp member is able to convince the disciplinary panel why he/she should be posted to his own preferred state due to health or more complicated reasons.

b) Re-mobilization means the repetition of the entire service year. It doesn't matter if you completed just 3 or 4 months out of 12..."Extensions" on the other hand only compels the corp member to serve for the number of months he/she was absent in his/her PPA.

c)I am really not sure on this one..I guess its basically dependent on if you remain in your previous state of deployment.

d) uhm....not sure about the issue of payment as well.

i think i agree with those that believe you're sitting on a goldmine and its rally you not hving a way around selling your service well. utilise NL in advertising - use the event and fashion threads in selling what you van and upload a few of your works with contact details. of a 20 enquiries you'l get, 1 or 2 would be serious.

Anyways, i would like see your designs, maybe i might need your service for my home wink soonest.

best of luck!

Thanks a lot.
I'll work on that soonest.
As for the designs, I don't wanna derail this thread with the pictures so if u don't mind, pls send me an email and I'll forward some pictures to you.
mojjiemiles@hotmail.com

Will advertise in the other NL sections as suggested.

thats nice to know. but specifically, i meant party decorations. those are easy to get and not so risky.

i wanted to mention this earlier, but felt you might not like the option of teaching. unfortunately, this seems to be where the money lies, at least in this path. kindly reconsider.

lastly, before i go. it just occured to me that if you were say a distributor for say Berger Paints, your office/shop could serve as a meeting point for potential clients as they troop in to buy paints. even if they dont buy your paints, everyone in that area will refer people to you when they ask for painters.

i'm looking at cross-selling here. having a shop that provides a complementary service (furniture/paints/curtains,etc) and brings in daily revenue as well as providing a constant stream of customers you can sell your other services to.

OMG.....U dug me out.! I actually forgot I wrote that a while ago.

Truth is; I have been a bit selfish to teach and that was really naïve on my part. I am older and wiser now I have to agree with your observation.
I totally like cross-selling concept 'tho I'v never tried it before. Its definitely a good idea since it will involve d sale of the materials that'll be required for my designs.

I am highly motivated already.
Thank you for your advices!

As Acidtalk had said you're sitting on a goldmine,I tout I shud add my little advice too in the sense that you shud try and look for boyz who are into painting of houses. You will always take them along whenever you have a job and you will teach them the necessary things they need to know in completing this wall designs. So after sometimes some of the boyz will leave while some will stay because they feel it's worth doing for the rest of their life. This makes it easier for you cos your own to supervise while they complete the whole painting and finishing of the walls.I hope this will help too cos you can't do this alone and also with acidtalk advice it will make a difference,Pls don't give up.

Thank you for dropping in...

I do employ freelance labourers from the painters association whenever I have a job. They work on the background colours while I do the designs. I'd love to teach them but its almost impossible for the unskilled/semi-skilled to learn the designs due to its tricky and technical state hence, the major work load still falls on me.
If I can ever find graduates or high school levers willing to learn the designs and get dirty at work, it will be so much easier.

Thank you again for your contribution. I am indeed motivated to start over.

The game gives two rewards: Money and fame.
If you get both (as the winner), good for you. But if you don't get the money, you've got your fame to use "wisely" and convert it into a money making deal. Its a win-win situation.

Hate or love Goldie, she's more popular in Africa now and will be making more money.

If falling in love with a nutty dude was her crime that made y'all get so verbally violent on her, I'll call it hypocrisy at its peak.

have you considered diversifying?

if you are good at painting walls, what do you think about decorating event venues (weddings, AGMs, etc)?

at least, if one aspect is not bringing in money, the other will.

you also get to meet people, network, exchange contacts, distribute your brochure, etc.

lastly, on the gender factor, have you considered taking on a male associate/partner, who might also double as a marketer?

Ur response is appreciated.

I have tried to diversify into getting contracts in Window treatments(curtains), furniture, sculptures, floor designs etc but the risks involved r quite high and it was too much for me to handle at the same time.

As regards the male associate/partner, have had numerous guys willing be my partner at a ridiculous profit sharing ratio which made me shun the idea.

I will work on your suggestions and when I do find one trustworthy enuf to work with, I'll definitely make a deal with him.

Thank you again for your contribution!

Sweetheart, you are sitting on a GOLDMINE. Do you want to use your own hands to set you 'mine' on fire?

There is no single entrepreneur on planet heart who ever had it all smooth so don't give up....myou are close to your breakthrough.

I want to guess you have snap shots (pictures) of works you have done right?

If yes, worry no more as you have a solution.

Go online and search for the top 50 Architecture, lanscaping and interior decor firms in Nigeria. Write a comprehensive proposal and go "in person" to see the CEO of the firm or head od creativity in such company. Show them what you have got and I assure you at least 3 out of the 50 will be amazed and show great intrest in your work.

Be careful though, your collabration with them might need you getting some "legal backings" so that you don't end up being cheated at the end of the day.

A profit sharing formular between you and the architecture firm will be your best bet.

But first I will advice you to go register your business, even if its a business name for now. It won't cost more than N6,000 to do so.

Please don't give up on your dreams I beg you.

All the best....

Yes, I have snapshots in hard and soft copies.

I love your idea about the online search, proposals and the legal aspects but that's gotta mean am taking a really huge leap...! (Its scary Sir).

I had even stopped painting for a whole year (2011) and counting cos I changed my career path into Maritime and Safety. However, starting as an entrepreneur in those fields is way too capital intensive n the jobs aren't coming either.

Let's not forget the gender factor which plays a rather annoying role in my line of work (wall designs).

I promise to give it another shot using your more sophisticated approach. I pray dis thread doesn't die anytime soon cos Lord knows I'll need help. I cannot do this alone.

Thank you for your timely response OP.

Can you give a brief details of what you were into, how you got started, how many years you spent in the business and how you decided to fold it up. That way it might be very easy to inspire you to get started again.

Thanks for your response.

Back when I was in my 3rd year in the university, I ventured into Wall designs for 3 yrs. Most ppl call it Interior decor but my major focus was on the Walls. It involved the use of wall paint to design walls which sighted after completion, ur first guess would be that its a Wall Paper except u try touching the wall to get the real idea. I used to change into my overall, get on the ladder and paint.
It wasn't lady-like at all, neither was it capital intensive. I easily got my inspirations on designs from the internet, fabrics, tv shows, blankets, ceramics, floor carpets, mugs etc...anything at all. Designing a wall sometimes can take up to 3-4 days. Hence, a whole apartment can take up to 2weeks or less.
There were different choices from offices, lounges, baby cribs, cake shops, bedrooms etc and my major clients were new couples and some bachelors etc.

The major bottleneck(s) was that everyone loved my designs and were quite affordable but they were not willing to pay due to the Nigerian phrase (...its just a rented apartment, I'll contact you when MY house is completed).

Even the few that employed my services would beat the cost so low that I'd end up regretting why I took the contract.
I was using my time, brain and body exhaustively as it requires manual labour with little to show for it at d completion of the contract.
My approach was different, the delivery system was unique. I was painting with a difference with aim of converting your house into a HOME but my clients never appreciated my services as expected.
I resolved I hadn't found my target market which was why I was grossly underpaid and didn't get enough clients as I shd or the value for my services.

Now I just dislike it as a job.

I love painting!!! Its always been a hobby but I'll rather do it as a gift or offer.

Infact, I don't bother to visit site locations when called cos I just can't stand being begged or cajoled to accept an unreasonable sum.

@envee, sorry this is coming late

To answer your question, i.e, NISP or PDG in Shipping, your choice should be determined by your post-NYSC career plans. You may have to decide if you'd want to go into HSE proper or not. Understandably, there's an element of uncertainty in making such decisions especially when you don't have a ready job waiting.

The good thing about the NISP pathway is that you can take it in bits n pieces i.e over a long period of time. But for specifics, you may enquire in advance with your university of choice about the suitability of NISP certification for MSc admission puposes.

Brainwave, I never got to thank you for your advice but I believe its better late than ever.

Thank you so much.! I am now NISP certified and also did an online program from OSHA and I haven't regretted taking those decisions. The journey still continues for me as NEBOSH is the next item on my agenda.

My main interest is in the Maritime (Safety) Industry because of the little theoretical and practical knowledge I have gained in Shipping . I am currently serving and can't help feeling eager to begin to practice as soon as possible.

To all those that have taken time out to enlighten others on this thread, I say a big THANK YOU to y'all.
You've been a huge source of inspiration to us..

Some departments are up-to-date with the curriculum with passionate lecturers while some are just not it at all.

I rmbr calling the customer care last week when my mtn balance of N818 naira was reduced to N0.00.
When I got no valid reason for the deduction, I reduced my recharge rate to N400 at a time. I wasn't surprised when I woke up with 0.00 balance the following week again when I knew there was N56 the previous night.
Apparently, these deductions have been going on for quite sometime now which most subscribers have barely noticed until now.
The only reason I noticed these last incidents was because my call credit was completely cleaned out.
