PoliticsNigerian Airlines Sound Alarm Over ‘Existential Threat’ by Epstein(op): 8:24pm On Feb 10, 2024
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have issued a stark warning, declaring the industry is on the brink of collapse, attributing the looming catastrophe to a myriad of challenges ranging from foreign exchange shortages to soaring fuel prices and the formidable hurdles in aircraft acquisition due to country risk factors.

Obiora Okonkwo (Professor), spokesperson for the Airline Operators of Nigeria and Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, explained the seriousness of the situation during a recent press briefing.

He emphasised the urgent need for government intervention to avert the impending crisis that threatens to engulf the entire aviation sector.

“We are facing existential threats due to the scarcity of foreign exchange, exorbitant aviation fuel prices, and the daunting task of acquiring and maintaining aircraft amidst country risk factors,” Okonkwo lamented, highlighting the dire consequences of grounded aircraft awaiting maintenance, exacerbating the depletion of vital equipment necessary for domestic services.

The pernicious combination of unstable foreign exchange rates and escalating fuel costs, currently at N1,300 per litre, has plunged airlines into a vortex of uncertainty, rendering long-term planning futile and sowing the seeds of financial instability.

Okonkwo explained the plight of passengers who purchased tickets in advance, now burdened with surging costs due to prevailing economic conditions.

“We are making losses on factors beyond our control,” he lamented, underscoring the ripple effects permeating the entire aviation ecosystem, with service providers and airports escalating fees and charges, further burdening the troubled carriers.

The dwindling passenger traffic, made worse by economic uncertainties and shifting consumer priorities, has compounded airlines’ woes, with seasonal fluctuations worsening already frustrated financial positions.

The reluctance of passengers to embark on discretionary travel, opting instead for financial transactions, underscores how bad the situation has deteriorated to.

In a fervent appeal to the government, Okonkwo implored authorities to comprehend the gravity of the situation and intervene decisively to salvage the industry from the brink of collapse.

Urgent measures, including special allocations of foreign exchange and regulatory support, are imperative to avert a catastrophic collapse and safeguard the future of the aviation industry.

In the face of mounting challenges and soaring borrowing costs, airlines confront an existential crisis, compelling stakeholders to rally behind concerted efforts to stave off impending doom and chart a course towards sustainable recovery.

PoliticsTinubu Begs Nigerian Army To Shun Coup D’etat Plot by Epstein(op): 8:15pm On Feb 10, 2024
President Bola Tinubu on Saturday urged the Nigerian Army to shun actions that could truncate Nigeria’s democracy. grin

The president made this plea at the Diamond Jubilee of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna on Saturday, according to his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.

“I urge you to continue to play your constitutional role of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Nigeria, our fatherland,” said Mr Tinubu.

Mr Tinubu added that the army “must shun any acts that are inimical to the well-being of our nation and acts which can destroy the gains of democracy which we have enjoyed in the last 20 years.”

While celebrating fallen heroes who lost their lives protecting the country’s territorial integrity, Mr Tinubu said, “The war against the enemies of Nigeria is not over.”

He charged the Nigerian Army to “upscale the fight against insecurity, which has robbed us of peace and progress.”

The president’s plea to the Nigerian Army to shun actions that are capable of truncating democracy comes as the continent witnessed a series of coup d’états.

In the past three years, several African countries such as Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Sudan, and most recently, Niger Republic and Gabon have been controlled by military juntas who cited corruption, insecurity and increased poverty as the bases for the takeover from democratic governments.

From 1966 to 1993, Nigeria experienced several coups, excused by military regimes on widespread corruption, electoral fraud and violence, poverty, and insecurity. The country returned to democracy in 1999.

They come in with their CFA and change them to Naira. A few CFA gives them some huge amounts of Naira, which they use in buying anything from Nigeria. We see them in their 1000s at the Boarder Towns and villages like Mubi, Michika, Belel, Maiha, Yola etc. To them is a blessing for the Naira collapsing! Terrifying photo shows crazed masturbator moments after pleasuring himself outside mum's Sutton bedroom

This is the moment a crazed masturbator was caught pleasuring himself outside a mum's bedroom in South London. Scott Bailey went on an autoerotic rampage across Sutton in March last year, exposing himself to three women while he was already on bail ahead of a trial for touching himself outside a teenager's bedroom two months earlier.

The 44-year-old onanist, of Green Wrythe Lane, Carshalton, was set loose from Croydon Crown Court heard on Monday, January 5, after spending near the equivalent of a two-year sentence on remand. After MyLondon's report, one victim decided to share photos of Bailey caught in the act 'for the safety of women and girls' as the creep's appearance had significantly deteriorated.

"You can see he has changed dramatically," she explained. "A reason for sharing these photos is to make all women and girls of all ages aware of what he looks like now. Okay, he has mental health issues, but I feel women and girls should feel safe regardless of where they go especially in their own home."

She also said the incident had traumatised her and both her children who were at home during Bailey's sickening display. "The incident happened nearly a year ago but I still worry in my own home about keeping windows and curtains open. I also have two young daughters who also witnessed this," she added.

Bailey was spotted touching himself by a neighbour at around 7.40pm on January 8, 2023. He was identified from doorbell footage, then arrested a month later on February 22. The self-styled 'perv' was charged with outraging public decency and was remanded ahead of his first hearing. When he denied the offence, a trial was set and he was released on bail on March 16.

But two days after his release, he struck again by masturbating outside a woman's ground-floor bedroom window in Sutton at 2am on March 18. This time the victim was naked and about to sleep when she heard someone try to open the door.

When she went to the door, she saw Bailey with his penis exposed and masturbating, which he continued doing for around 10 seconds. "CCTV showed he tried the door handle, which is obviously a concern," prosecutor Emily Baxter added. grin

Two days later he struck again, flashing two victims within a three-hour window. The first was a jogger who saw Bailey with his tracksuit bottoms down and his penis exposed on St James Road in Sutton at around 6.10am on March 20. The pervert stared at her and called out to her, but she couldn't hear him through her headphones.

Around two hours later, at 8.25am, Bailey appeared outside the window of a mum-of-two who was about to get dressed. She saw the window had been opened and Bailey was outside with his trousers down and penis exposed. "She told him to f**k off and he said 'I was not stealing anything, I was just being a perv'," Ms Baxter said.

Bailey was arrested for the second time on March 23 and was remanded into custody. He pleaded guilty to one count of outraging public decency and three counts of exposure. Defence counsel Joseph Sinclair explained his client had a history of paranoid schizophrenia and psychosis, and had only been released from a mental health sectioning in December 2022.

Judge Peter Gower KC considered the punitive element of any sentence had already been served by the time spent on remand, which was equivalent to around a 22-month sentence. "What I want to do is protect women from being on the receiving end of your filthy behaviour," Judge Gower said, as he explained his reasons for imposing a two-year community order.

"All the women you exposed yourself to, in one way or another, have been traumatised, their lives affected, they are frightened to go out of their houses, and the jogger you exposed yourself to has stopped running. Why should women not run around the park or neighbourhood they live in?" added Judge Gower.
