Fashion / Makeup By Orsela by epstitch(f): 1:06pm On May 30, 2011
Leading Professional Makeup Artist, Orsela is offering training classes for intending Makeup artists.

This program which is run twice every year, begins June 6th 2011. Asked why she runs a training program as important as this just twice every year she says -"We need enough time to groom the students we have. We have a successful fleet of Makeup artists under our belt and there is more pride in having one successful artist than having so many who cannot run their makeup careers after training."

This June however, the training fees have been slashed by almost 40% and is billed at just N40,000.

It is a good opportunity for young aspiring creative people who want to have a career of their own today.
Running your own Makeup artist career is a good move, even better when you take Professional courses and have a certificate to show for it.

Have you ever wondered why your personal makeup application doesn’t always come out right? Do you always stare at beauty magazines and wish your makeup would come out just as beautiful as it looks on the models? I would tell you why.

• Your skin is in bad state
• You aren’t using the right tools
• Your choice of foundation is wrong(Color and type)
• Your color combination is wrong
• You do not have a steady hand
• You apply too much of everything.

There are many more reasons and I could go on and on but these are the basics and I am going to help you deal with them.

• SKIN: Do you have skin problems? We all do once in a while. The issue isn’t the problem itself, it is our choice of preventing or healing that becomes a problem. Seek professional advice on choice of skin care products, don’t just buy products off the shelf on your own judgments. Your skin has to be in a healthy beautiful state so that makeup can sit on better and look good. For information on how to deal with spots, blemishes and acne go to http://mymakeupmag.tk

• MAKEUP TOOLS: Using the right makeup tools help you achieve a look that is professional. Make sure that you are using the right brushes for eye shadow, powder, blush and concealer.  We love wedges for blending in foundation. Wedge sponges help blend foundation in with little effort.

• FOUNDATION: Foundation is the basic makeup product that is used. Once the foundation isn’t right, everything else isn’t. Foundation helps creates the canvas for your makeup. Your foundation should blend into the skin to a perfect finish and should not appear like its screaming out of the skin so make sure that you are using the closest or perfect shade for your skin tone,  Choose foundation that is best for your skin type. Don’t use liquid foundation when you have oily skin, compacts are best. Liquid foundation is best for normal to dry skin types. You’d have a cakey appearance if you use compacts for dry skin.
Pro tip? For a look that is flawless, use a face primer just before foundation. Its masks out lines and makes the face appear smoother, allowing foundation sit on the skin better.

• COLORS: The colors you choose should complement and balance the features of your entire face, your hair color and your eyes. When you have played up your eyes, make sure to go soft on your lips and vice versa. I call this the up-down rule.
When filling your brows, the color of brow pencil you choose should complement your hair color and skin tone.

• BE STEADY: You have to take control of your makeup or it would take control of you. Don’t be too quick to apply products, try as much as you can to steady your grip on your brushes, pencils, liners and mascara else you would be spilling products over a job that could have been otherwise beautiful.

• TOO MUCH IS WRONG: Too much foundation, too many eye shadow combinations, too much lip gloss, thick liners, too much finishing powder…wrong wrong wrong! The best makeup look is one that is applied little by little until finish. Unless you want to look like a fashion model straight off a photo shoot, you can’t go wrong with your look when you keep it soft and simple.

Fashion / You'd FAIL as a MAKEUP ARTIST if - by epstitch(f): 11:28am On Feb 05, 2010
Makeup artistry is a business - if you do not understand how to run a business, you'd fail completely trying to run your business as a makeup artist.
The basic principles of business should be incorporated sensibly in all you do.

-You must be extra creative : That means you've got to be better in your skills as a makeup artist
-You have to be professional
-You must understand basic human communication
-Your personality has to be approachable, calm and very warm
-Be dedicated and selfless (to the art first, and then business)
-Continually exercise your creative abilities, always learn new things
-You have to understand MARKETING in all sense of the word
-Connect with people who require your services : Thats the only way to continue to get work to do
  -Photographers
  -Modeling agencies
  -Bridal shops
  -Wedding planners
  -Event planners
  -Tv and Radio houses
  -Advertising agents

-Market yourself everywhere! You never know who's listening, looking or watching you. They just might be needing your services.
Remember, relationship is key. If you have good relationship with people, they'd be sure to introduce other customers to you.

Fashion / How To Make Your Foundation Last Longer! by epstitch(f): 1:45pm On Feb 03, 2010
First off, let me start by saying - THE WEATHER IS TOO HOT RIGHT NOW TO WEAR A LOTTA MAKEUP!! Wear minimal foundation and/or powder if you have to.
Yes, that said, id like to tell y'all how best to keep your makeup lasting longer.

Foundation Primer! That's all you need.  Primer, is a kind of lotion that is used to hold oil in, allows for easy application of foundation and it helps foundation stay on longer.  My favorite foundation primer is the "Mary Kay OIL MATIFIER. "
Because, the primer reduces how much sweat you produce, you are less likely to have makeup smearing all over your face.

Don't forget to stick to a very good cleansing/exfoliating routine to take off makeup from the depths of the skin surface and prevent unwanted acne, pimples, rashes and spots.

Remember not to be a tweeze freak. Too much of tweezing can cause eyebrows not to grow back normally., wait it out till your brows really do need attention before tweezing again.
Fashion / Blush - The Beauty And The Geek by epstitch(f): 10:06pm On Oct 06, 2009
Blush is surprisingly one makeup product that makes a chunk load of difference. The true essence of this makeup product however is to add a soft glow to the cheeks which occur quite naturally when a girl is flushed and excited, commonly seen in women of much whiter skin. Which means in fact women of colour can do without using blush. However, we can. In little minimal amounts, hitting directly on the cheek bone and sweeping outwards towards the ears.

For black women, it is best to use hues that are of bronze and browns depending on your skin tone. Please skip the pinkish looking blush with beige undertones if you are not very light skinned. And yes! You can use bronzers instead of blush, this actually works all the time! Do without blush for your daily makeovers, but you can do blush for evenings and nighttime events.
Remember you want to look like a beauty, not the geek!

@ mama gee, well aparently the girl in the first is the sam one in the second. She's just the way she is, very slim.

Back to Eyebrows
A good choice of brow pencil if you don't want to spend a fortune on brand names( between #1000 and #1500), You can use Davis color 3(#50)
M.A.C color 2 and 3 (#100). They are available in most stores and they come out really nice if you know how to fill in properly.
Try them out!
