Popular rapper, MI Abaga, has just ventured into film making, producing a Nollywood/Indian movie in collaboration with a popular producer.

The rapper took to his Instagram page to make the announcement where he mentioned that he is an associate producer on the forthcoming movie.

Nikita Pearl Waligwa, A Disney Star Has Died

Nikita Pearl Waligwa, the Ugandan child actress who starred in Disney’s Queen of Katwe, a film about a chess prodigy from a slum in Uganda, has died.

She shot to fame after she played Gloria who hailed from the slums of Uganda in the movie.

Nikita Pearl died on Saturday February 15th after a battle with brain tumour. She was first diagnosed in 2016 and Queen of Katwe director Mira Nair reportedly mobilised people to help fund her treatment in India, with Ugandan doctors quoted as saying they did not have the necessary equipment.

She was given the all-clear in 2017 but last year, she suffered a relapse after another tumour was found in her brain.

Speaking to local media, a family member said Nikita suffered severe pain before she died.

“The brain was swollen and it is exerting a lot of pressure.” the family source

Woman who tried to open plane door during flight jailed

A woman from the UK who tried to open a passenger plane door during flight has been jailed for two years.

A woman identified as Chloe Haines, 26, from High Wycombe, tried to open the plane door.

She also scratched a crew member as she lunged at the door shouting “I’m going to kill you all,” the court heard.

Two RAF fighter jets rushed to escort the plane back to Stansted Airport, causing a sonic boom across Essex.



Haines, who pleaded guilty to endangering the safety of a passenger plane and assault by beating was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court.

The incident took place on a Jet2 flight with 206 people aboard, heading to Dalaman in Turkey on 22 June, 2019.

Haines’ barrister Oliver Saxby QC described her as “a troubled young person with a number of serious issues”.

She had been given a community order for similar offences involving alcohol and a loss of control 17 days before the incident, the court heard.

Jussie Smollett indicted again over alleged hoax attack

Empire actor Jussie Smollett has been indicted by a special prosecutor in Illinois on six counts of lying to police.

Last year, Jussie Smollett said he was the subject of a racist and homophobic attack in Chicago. He claimed he was punched in the face by two masked attackers, had an “unknown chemical substance” poured on him and a rope wrapped around his neck.

He also said his attackers made reference to MAGA, the Make America Great Again slogan used by Trump supporters.

However, following investigations, authorities accused him of staging the attack on himself for publicity. Police claimed Smollett paid two Black brothers to carry out the attack “to promote his career” because he was “dissatisfied with his salary”.



Jussie Smollett denied the accusations and after an emergency court appearance in March 2019, all charges against him were dropped.

Yet Chicago Police and the city’s mayor stood by their case against Smollett – and accused the courts of letting him “off scot-free”.

Jussie Smollett now faces six counts of disorderly conduct, special prosecutor Dan Webb said in a statement.

Mr Webb, the special prosecutor assigned in August to investigate how local prosecutors handled the case, said in a statement he was going to further prosecute Smollett.

The actor had now been charged with “making four separate false reports to Chicago Police Department officers related to his false claims that he was the victim of a hate crime, knowing that he was not the victim of a crime,” Mr Webb said.

He is due in court on 24 February.

The city has also sued the actor in a civil suit, seeking payment of more than $130,000 for overtime paid to officers involved in investigating his claims. Smollett has filed a counter suit.

We’ll disrupt Kanu’s parents’ burial if IPOB members attend – Abia CP warns

The Abia Police Command on Monday warned the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to steer clear from the burial of Eze Israel Kanu and his wife, Sally, both parents of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ene Okon, who gave the warning in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia, said that the command would disrupt the funeral should IPOB attend the ceremony.

Federal Government in September 2017 proscribed IPOB, following an order of a Federal High Court, Abuja, declaring the group as a terrorist organisation.

He said that the command had made its position clear to the Traditional Prime Minister of Afara-Ukwu Ancient Kingdom, the community of the deceased.



He said that he would not fold his hands and watch a proscribed group operate in the state.

“If they fail to adhere to what we have told them, it means they do not want the burial to go on smoothly because we are going to scatter the place.

“IPOB is proscribed by the federal government and I, as the commissioner of police in Abia, cannot sit here and allow any proscribed group to operate anywhere in this state.

“I am saying this again for emphasis that there is no way police will allow a proscribed group to participate in the burial,” Okon said.

According to him, the command will not take anything for granted, considering the abundant intelligence on threat by IPOB.

He said that members of the group were free to attend the burial as individuals and sympathisers like other members of society.

The police chief, however, warned that the command would react, “if IPOB flag, insignia or any form of identification of the organisation if seen at the burial”.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kanu escaped from Nigeria, after the group was proscribed as a terrorist organisation.

Kanu’s mother reportedly died in a German hospital in August, 2019, while his father died in December.

They will be buried on Friday, February 14 in their country home in Afaraukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.

Danish aid worker, Lovén marks 4 years since the rescue of child branded a witch in Akwa Ibom

Four years ago, January 30, 2016, Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Lovén was photographed giving water to a severely emaciated 2-year-old boy, who she rescued after he was branded a witch by his family and left to starve to death in Akwa Ibom.

The child wandered the streets for months when Anja got a phone call and immediately led a rescue team including her husband David Emmanuel Umem, to bring the child to the Children’s Education and Development Foundation (ACAEDF) aka “Land of Hope” named after the boy.

“Today is the 30 of January 2020, and today is exactly 4 years ago we rescued Hope. I think most people in the world has seen or heard about the famous picture of Hope and I, where I kneel down in front of his starving malnourished body to give him water.
I don´t want to share the picture today. Instead I want to share pictures of Hope how he looks like today, 4 years after the rescue. A very strong, intelligent, funny and beautiful young boy who despite all odds, survived !
Hope has seen the famous picture of him and I many times. He will point at himself to say that it’s him on the picture, and then he will smile, as if he was proud. But I know it’s not about pride. Children are born with the ability to forgive. Children are born with no prejudices. It is when children are taught what to think and not how to think, we fail as a society.

Superstition is caused by lack of structural education, extreme poverty, religious fanaticism and corruption. No society can develop if it’s people are deprived basic human rights such as access to education, health care and social protection.

Like all our 74 children, Hope goes to school every day. School is the foremost fountain of knowledge children can be exposed to.

Coronavirus: Australian scientists recreate sample in search of cure

A cure seems to be in sight for the deadly coronavirus after a team of Australian scientists announced that they have recreated the virus.

The breakthrough annoucement made by researchers at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Melbourne on Wednesday January 29, is expected to quicken the creation of a vaccine.

Doherty Institute Deputy Director, Mike Catton told reporters that they will share the sample which was grown from an infected patient with the World Health Organization and laboratories around the world.

He said;

“We’ve planned for an incident like this for many, many years and that’s really why we were able to get an answer so quickly. This is a step, it’s a piece of the puzzle that we have contributed.”

The recent coronavirus outbreak has killed 132 people in China and infected close to 6,000, after the flu-like virus broke out in the central Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019. Though no death has been reported outside China, there are at least 47 cases confirmed in 16 other countries including in Thailand, France, the US and Australia.

While Chinese authorities said the virus can be trasnsmitted during its incubation period, WHO insisted that it remains unclear whether it is contagious before symptoms appear. WHO added that the incubation period can range from two to 10 days.

Commenting on how the virus is being transmitted, Dr Catton said;

“An antibody test will enable us to retrospectively test suspected patients so we can gather a more accurate picture of how widespread the virus is, and consequently, among other things, the true mortality rate.

“It will also assist in the assessment of effectiveness of trial vaccines.”

Pdp wt its socio political baggages and insurmountable moral burden cannot muster the moral rectitude, political strength and integrity to lead such a mass movement.

A new party, birthed by pdp, wt new people, younger elements in society and politicians of other tendencies from various existing political parties including powerful but dissatisfied elements from the ruling party, is the only formation that will effectively neutralise and overrun the incumbent party.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the reason governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are standing alone in defence of the judgment of the Supreme Court on Imo governorship election is that many of them are products of huge electoral manipulations.

A statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Sunday, said the supreme court manufactured and donated fictitious votes to name a 4th position candidate the winner of the Imo state governorship election.

The statement read:

“It is rather not surprising to many that the APC governors could allow themselves to be enlisted to haul insults at the PDP with a view to blur and distort this grave miscarriage of justice because many of them are products and beneficiaries of electoral manipulations.”

“The APC governors’ part in this script appears very glaring. Of course, who else will the flies support except a person with open smelly sore?. This is also why APC governors are encouraging their party to engage in underhand measures and supporting injustice instead of following democratic processes.

“In comparing the Imo state judgment to that of Zamfara and Rivers states governorship elections, the APC governors forgot that Nigerians are abreast of the facts.



“The APC governors deliberately veiled the fact that they lost Zamfara and Rivers as a result of their internal wrangling over their failure to conduct a credible primary, which voided their votes and left the party with the second-highest number of votes as the winner.

“This is different from the judgment on Imo where fictitious votes were manufactured by the Supreme Court and donated to the APC to lift it from the fourth position and declared winner.

“In making their plea for the rejected judgment, the APC governors should explain to Nigerians how the Supreme Court, in its bid to award votes to APC, ended up declaring total valid votes of 950, 952 votes above the INEC’s official 823,743 total number of accredited voters for the election.

“Can the APC governors explain to Nigerians how and where the Supreme Court manufactured the extra 127,743 vote above the number of accredited voters.

“What can they say to the fact that the Supreme Court could not produce the details of the votes from each of the fictitious 388 polling units, upon which it based the ruling?

“Furthermore, can the APC governors explain why the Supreme Court summersaulted on its declaration on a host of cases, particularly the Atiku vs Buhari case, that for a petitioner to succeed in allegation of infraction of any provision of the Electoral Act, especially one complaining about malpractice, the petitioner must call witnesses polling unit by polling units.



“The APC governors should therefore steer clear of the Imo judgment as the PDP will never abandon the determination to get the judgment reversed.”

This afternoon, Senator Uzodinma received his certificate of return from INEC in Abuja one day after the Supreme Court nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha and declared him winner of the March 9th 2019 state governorship election.

In attendance at the swearing-in ceremony were the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, former Governor of the State, Senator Rochas Okorocha and governorship candidate of APGA in the 2019 governorship election, Ifeanyi Ararume.

Six Democratic US presidential candidates have sparred over war and trade, gender and health care, in a pressure-packed debate in Des Moines, Iowa, with the first nominating contest in the state less than three weeks away.

JOE BIDEN

The former vice president, who has been showing fresh signs of competitiveness in Iowa and New Hampshire, and who still leads in polls nationally, needed only a steady performance on the evening and largely delivered it.

He benefited from much of the attention staying on the flap between progressive allies Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren over whether he once told her a woman could not win the White House in 2020, which allowed Biden to stay above the fray.

When Sanders did turn his attention to Biden, it was regarding issues that have long been part of Biden’s record: his vote as a senator in favour of the Iraq war and his support for global trade deals such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Beyond Sanders, Biden was hardly challenged, even by other moderates such as Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar, who may have the most to gain from him faltering.



Bottom line: Biden’s ship stayed on course.

BERNIE SANDERS

Coming into the debate, Sanders’ campaign had been rocked first by reports that his volunteers had denigrated Warren to Iowa voters and then by another report that he had told Warren in a private 2018 meeting that a woman could not be elected to be president in 2020.

When the US senator from Vermont was asked by a debate moderator whether he indeed made the remark to Warren, he forcefully denied it. But Warren insisted he had, essentially accusing Sanders of lying.

The tension between the two was palpable – as were the conflicts between their supporters on social media. Warren even refused to shake Sanders’ hand afterward.

The main question for Sanders going forward is whether the row with Warren slows some of the momentum his campaign had been building at a time when progressive and moderate Democrats alike want less intra-party fighting and more of a united front against their common enemy – Republican President Donald Trump.



Bottom line: Sanders may face questions about his appeal to women.

ELIZABETH WARREN

Did Warren get the better of the exchange with Sanders over gender? Likely. She attempted to take the high road and not dwell on what he may or may not have said.

Still, in a thinly veiled case against the most unapologetically liberal candidate in the race, Warren said there was a “real danger” in Democrats “picking a candidate who can’t pull our party together or someone who takes for granted big parts of the Democratic constituency.”

She said, “We need a candidate who will excite all parts of the Democratic Party, bring everyone in.”

There is also no mistaking that her campaign, whether it intended to or not, has now put gender front and centre in a way it had not before.

Warren explicitly made the case that women, in fact, make for better candidates than men. “Look at the men on this stage,” she said. “Collectively, they have lost 10 elections.”

Bottom line: Warren is making a high-stakes bet on gender.



PETE BUTTIGIEG

In a different debate, the 37-year-old former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, might have been the top target of the evening. He has surprised – and at times annoyed – his rivals with his staying power. Polls show him a major player in both Iowa and New Hampshire, the two early voting states.

His lack of political experience and his lack of support from voters of colour remain significant weakness, but both went largely unremarked upon on Tuesday. At one point, Klobuchar was given an opportunity to take a shot at Buttigieg’s record and let it pass.

For his part, Buttigieg did what he has done at most debates: provide solid, if slightly wonky, answers to every question. He, more than anyone in the race, may benefit from being able to campaign while the US senators in the race return to Washington for Trump’s impeachment trial.

Bottom line: Buttigieg got a pass.

AMY KLOBUCHAR

The US senator from Minnesota likely needed a dominating performance on Tuesday to gain some real traction in the race. Polls show her still trailing behind the top grouping of candidates in Iowa, where she must perform well to remain a viable candidate.

To that end, Klobuchar, more than any other candidate on stage, repeatedly turned the conversation back toward Trump’s presidency. When she did focus on the rivals, she, as she has done before, effectively delivered a critique against the progressive agenda of Sanders and Warren.

But time is running out for Klobuchar, and she’ll have to spend much of her time off the campaign trail and back in Washington for the upcoming impeachment trial.



Bottom line: A strong night, but likely not enough.

TOM STEYER

The billionaire from California was a last-minute qualifier for the debate and largely remained an afterthought throughout the evening, failing to make a case why he would make a better Democratic nominee than the other candidates on stage.

He was able to continually bring up his number-one issue, climate change.

His willingness to spend millions of his own dollars on his campaign, however, means that he could end up playing a spoiler role later in the race. He has shown surprising strength in polls of the early voting states Nevada and South Carolina.

Bottom line: Still at the big-kids table. For now.

“Every time they announced the new nominations, it was so thrilling, because we didn’t really anticipate any of this,” Bong told Reuters Television in an interview in California.

Director Bong had previously discussed the challenges of international films breaking the “language barrier” around the world, but said the nominations suggest those barriers may now be falling.

“We can say that thanks to the internet, social media and these streaming services, the entire society is experiencing less of these language barriers and perhaps ‘Parasite’ benefited from that global trend,” he said.

In a video shared online by film distributor NEON, one of the show’s stars, Song Kang-ho, manages to not spill a cup of coffee as he and others in the room excitedly celebrate.

“The sign you’re a global superstar: You don’t spill your coffee when your film is nominated for Best Picture,” the company said.

Kwak Shin-ae, the CEO of the production company, Barunson E&A, said she was delighted by the first Oscar best picture nomination for a South Korean film but disappointed Song did not get a nod for an acting category despite the crucial role he played in the film.

“Being nominated for more than just the foreign language film category is meaningful because it means the film transcended language and nationally to communicate in the universal language of cinema,” she said.

The Dutch YouTube star, who has worked with Jessie J and Lady Gaga among others, said she had been blackmailed by people threatening to leak her secret and so she decided to let the world know about it instead.

According to her, the YouTube channel was set up while she was transitioning.

“Today I am here to share something with you that I’ve always wanted to share with you one day, but under my own circumstances, and it looks like that chance has been taken away from me,” the 25-year-old said.

“So today, I am taking back my own power and I have to tell you something.”

Nikkie said she has “never felt comfortable with labels” but wanted to live “without any rules”, adding: “I want to start the year off with the truth”.



“When I was younger, I was born in the wrong body, which means that I am transgender,” Nikkie revealed.

“It’s so surreal saying this. Filming this video is scary, but it feels so liberating and freeing. I’ve been wanting to share this side of myself to all of you for so long but I could never figure out the timing.”

Nikkie started identifying as a girl from the age of six when she grew her hair, and said at school “some kids got it, and other kids in my class did not”.

She also revealed that she has been taking hormones since she was 14, as well as using “growth stoppers”, before fully transitioning at 19.

“I am me,” she said. “I am still Nikkie. Nothing changes about that.

“The last thing I want in my life is for you to not trust me anymore, or to look at me with different eyes, or look at me in a different manner, or think that I have changed.”

She added: “This feels liberating and freeing, but I, at the end of the day, am still Nikkie. You are in charge of how you want to live your life.”

Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos has dismissed a car theft charge filed by the police against Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, his two brothers, and their cousin.

Chief Magistrate of Tinubu Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos Island, Tajudeen Elias discharged the case this morning after receiving a letter of agreement between the complainant, Mr Adelekan Ademola, and the four defendants.

Naira Marley, his two brothers – Idris Fashola (18) and Babatunde Fashola (24), and their cousin, Kunle Obere (22), were the defendants in the case.

Mr Elias struck out the four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, assault and obstructing the police from arresting Marley.

Naira Marley was absent in court, but the other defendants were present.

Magistrate Elias said, “In view of the letter of withdrawal, the defendants are hereby discharged”.
